It's been a little while since we've been back, but felt like heading out this way. I decided to get something different, so I got the Prime Brisket Sandwich (wet brisket) and a side of the Corn Casserole (can't help myself on that one). The Brisket was so delicious and tender, just added some of their House Sauce and it was perfection!! Hubby got a half pound of the wet Brisket and a side of his favorite, the lemony Cole Slaw. Initial impressions: meh. The brisket was dry and the potatoes salad tasted like the grocery store deli potato salad. Individually, each bbq sauce was one note, but mixing the house sauce and the 'hot' and sweet sauce was a better product. Product. The cafeteria purchase experience was confusing. Picked the sides first then the barbecue meats at the barbecue restaurant. The menus for the sides is on the wrong wall. Should be in the display case, because the potato salad looks like the casserole and the coleslaw. I don't why they have a fresh salad section at the sides bar. I feel like the layout was designed for TikTok with the gentrified cowboy chic, black nitrile gloves, and the unidentifiable country music. But, I can overlook the interior design and the vibe they are going for. Brisket is really trendy right now. Cheap, automatic smokers have made it easy to smoke at home, and it's jacking up the price of cheap cuts. Because of this, it makes more sense to go out for barbecue, but I can't recommend eating here if I'm spending at least $25 per influencer for dried brisket dinners. At the least staff were nice. Maybe a little bit too eager to visit our table for comments. I didn't have the heart to tell them they need to work on their fundamentals. Like, when you got 3 inches left of your small, dark brisket end, don't serve customers slices of that, because it's mostly bark and it tastes acrid. read more

This place has legit Texas style BBQ, way better than the chain BBQ places you might have tried. I'm picky about my brisket and Caldwell does it right. The potato salad was good as well, and the banana pudding with the nilla wafers was a good finish to the meal. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

If you like tender, well seasoned brisket & ribs this is the place to go. Sides I've had are mac n cheese, potato salad, & beans. Beans are savory, but everything is okay. I go primarily for the meat. Cannot go wrong!! Service is always good & fast. Great indoor & outdoor seating. read more

Caldwell BBQ had been on our list to try but we just never made it to the east side of town for it. SO happy there's a location close by us now! The BBQ here is fantastic!! The employees were so welcoming and friendly and there is lots of indoor and outdoor seating. We did the family of 4 meal for $65 which is a great deal. We added on a half jalapeño sausage and some desserts. The meats are all so tender and flavorful!! Some of the best brisket we've had. For the sides we really liked the Mac and cheese and corn casserole. The beans needed something to it but were filled with meat bits throughout. The coleslaw wasn't really my cup of tea but I don't really care for more heave based vinegar recipes. The Texas sheet cake and banana pudding were delicious! This bbq spot is going to be a hot spot for sure! Now open and we're glad we stopped by to try their bbq. Food was delicious with really good meat / side options. The corn casserole OMG I could order a tub of that alone. The man that helped us cut our meat selections was very friendly. Inside there is a lot of seating and room for large parties if you're planning on coming with a large group. There's also a lot of outside seating to enjoy your meals. Warms my heart to see one on the west side now. Been driving an hour one way to hit up the other locations. Now we can feast even sooner! Same great smokey taste and same great sauces! Usually go with the 'family of 4' meal and add on as necessary. Brisket is usually on point and devoured quickly. Pulled pork is fork tender and goes so well in a sandwich or by itself. Walking in, it feels like a classic BBQ spot with a rustic, open-house vibe. There is plenty of seating along with plenty of food options to choose from, and the service was absolutely amazing. We were greeted at the door, and someone checked on us in the middle of our meal to make sure everything was going well. The staff were all very friendly, and the food was flavorful and delicious. The setup is almost like a lunch-line style--you grab a tray, tell them what sides and meats you want, and they serve everything right onto your plate. Can I just start off with BBQ isn't my favorite. I like to try new restaurants with my friends so I will eat BBQ. I was leary about the location, 83rd and Peoria. But they have actually done a lot of work in the area and the restaurant is really nice. Let's move on to the food. You start off in line picking your sides. YUM! I love a side. Then the next line is the meat. Everything looked and smelled so good. I picked my potato, brisket, sausage, and mac and cheese. I also tasted the baked beans and corn casserole. Soooo good. The restaurant was clean, lots of tables to sit at, and everyone was friendly. And before you leave you have to try some dessert. They have Texas sheet cake, pecan pie, cookies, and banana pudding. We stopped at this new Caldwell County BBQ location a few weeks ago--not long after they opened up shop in Peoria. In my opinion, Phoenix's west valley is kind of a barbecue wasteland. Caldwell County has changed that for us by adding this location! I ordered portions of the smoked turkey breast and pulled pork. The employee who portioned my meats offered me a bite of brisket, which was absolutely delicious and made me contemplate my choices. We also shared sides of mac and cheese and corn casserole. Everything tasted super fresh and was delicious. We have been to Caldwell County's location in Gilbert and this new location was much larger and even had a nice patio if you're into eating al fresco. The restaurant looks inviting, friendly and clean as you walk up with some covered outside picnic type tables with a cool misting system and it is just as welcoming inside. My friend thought it was a bit pricey but I found it inline with its competitors Mission and Rudy's so pricing is up for dispute. My St Louis ribs were great as was my buddies pulled pork. He said it was better than the chopped brisket he had on his previous trip here. We both got a side of the corn casserole, which is corn baked inside of cornbread. It was great in our view but easy to stuff yourself with it. Seating tables are plentiful and spread out with a few booths for larger groups so it is comfortable and roomy and you don't share space at communal tables like other places. I can see myself eating here again as I felt like the choices were a bit better here than the two places I mentioned above. I would recommend Caldwell's for sure. read more

Walked in at the perfect time no line, which was great. Unfortunately, that was about the only thing that went perfectly, aside from the corn casserole, which was actually pretty delicious. I ordered the corn casserole and the mac and cheese (which was recommended). The mac and cheese was bland, lacked flavor, and was lukewarm at best. For the meats, I ordered the El General sandwich brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. The guy behind the counter asked if I wanted fatty or lean brisket. I went with fatty, but once I saw how thick the slice was cut, I had a feeling it wouldn't be tender... and it wasn't. It was pretty tough for fatty brisket, and the fat didn't render properly. I definitely needed sauce because the brisket itself lacked flavor. The pulled pork was tender, but again, it was mid at best and missing seasoning. The sausage was decent nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The vibe is super chill with music playing, which I appreciated. But I don't come for the vibes I come for the BBQ and unfortunately, this wasn't it. Overall, I'm glad I didn't make the longer drive out to their East Valley location, because that would've made for a very disappointing ride home. read more

Wow! Flavor and a Smile. I am a BBQ connoisseur and Caldwell definitely hits the spot. Their smoke is smoking and their seasoning is seasoning. Best of all everyone working here has the best smile. Their customer service is warm and inviting. Now for the food. First time I've seen a BBQ restaurant start with a sides station. Pretty cool to order sides. We got the Ranch style beans with chunks of meat also tried Mac and cheese. So cheese and yummy. Off to the meat station , glad to see a full menu available on a Sunday afternoon. I always rate BBQ on smoke flavor without any sauce. This BBQ flavor is packed with deliciousness. Wow. I'm was pleasantly surprised how good it all tastes. The burnt ends are brisket chunks with a sweet sauce. It's so good. The Jalapeño sausage is spicy enough. For desert we tried the pecan pie, it's not smoked like Lil Miss BBQ but it's sweet enough not over powering. So good. They have outdoor seating and ample parking with street spots available. Decor is modern and vibrant We had take out this time around. We will enjoy the scenery next time for sure. I need to try the sandwiches next. Caldwell County BBQ recently opened for business this past week. They have other locations but this location is in Peoria, Arizona. It's a welcoming establishment. There is a large seating area outside and seating inside. A huge transparent smoke house is next to the outdoor dining area. You can watch them smoke the meats. Inside there was a line leading up to the serving line. Staff ask you what sides you want and they put them in portion size paper holders. The next line is for the proteins, pork, beef, turkey, or sausage. You can have it without bread and it goes by weight or you can have it with bread. There are fountain drinks, bottles of beer or bottles of water. We selected a table inside to eat our dinner. The is staff is wonderful and checked on us frequently. We were given banana pudding on the house because we were married that afternoon on Valentine's Day at Rio Vista Park. Come hungry because they feed you here! The portions are large. We took leftovers home for another meal. We will return because it is delicious! I recommend Caldwell County BBQ. In addition they have parking out front and on the side of the building. read more

The Mac n Cheese was dry. The ribs were not meaty at all and the brisket was tough. Maybe it was just a bad day. The pecan pie was terrible hardly any pecans and also dry. Also the acoustics in this building are terrible so be prepared for loud but echoing loud. Very weird tight close seating arrangement. Not something I would go back for. The ribs were good but not great. I didn't like the BB sauce. My wife and I both disliked the coleslaw we prefer a sweet slaw. I guess that the price was typical for BB but it seemed high. The ordering process here is a bit of a headache. They ask what sides you want while you're still trying to read the menu on the opposite wall, which makes the whole start of the meal feel rushed and inconvenient. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite make up for the clunky start: * The Meats: Both the sliced brisket and the chopped brisket sandwich were very dry and hard in some spots. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was also dry, though the flavor wasn't bad. * The "Soupy" Burnt Ends: These were swimming in so much sauce they looked like soup, yet somehow the meat was still tough and dry underneath. * The Sides: The Mac and cheese was very good. The brisket chili was disappointing, it tasted burnt and had a hard, crunchy texture. Even the slices of white bread were stale. Poppy seed lemon. Not too strong just a hint of lemon. It pairs well either the pull pork sandwich. CORN CASSEROLE: Very good, my wife liked it. TEXAS RED CHILI: Enjoyed it. Took some home for lunch at work. Ordering is kind of wonky, not sure the staff even understands it. Very hospitable and attentive staff. They will get better. You can eat outside, at the bar inside or out, as well as inside dining. I've been to many BBQ's, and at this moment I'd have to say this doesn't stand out above the best.
