Although I hope to never have to come again in the near future, if I ever need to comply to strict government demands just to lend a helping hand, I would come back! I made an appointment, but I came an hour early. I was the only one there. I doubt the guy on the phone even jot me down in his non-existent planner. But I'm sure he just said what he needed to say over the phone just to make his customer happy. And I am a happy customer. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. He kept telling me to relax because for some reason, I was really tense. I did the best I could, but he was wearing latex gloves, which make me feel funny. But I can never complain about good germ-protection practices. The nice lady told me it's usually $50-60 but she's only charging for $25. I don't know what to believe, since everyone else seemed to get that deal. 2855 Telegraph is the safest building I've been to on Telegraph. Nice, clean bathrooms too! If I ever needed to stop to use the restroom, I would just walk in here. read more

Went here for DOJ/FBI check. They tried to charge me twice for the live scan (one CA DOJ and another FBI) and I find out later other livescan places one is enough to send both. Then when I said I'll just take a physical printed card for FBI instead and mail it myself, they said I needed two cards for an additional $50. (You only need one) and pressed me to do the "expedited service" for over $100. So I ended up doing just the DOJ for $57. If the fee is $25 to DOJ and the published livescan fee for these guys on the DOJ website is $25, where is the extra $7 is coming from? I dont know. They were so rude and rushed I just paid it and left. Save the aggravation and go to PO Pack on Shattuck down the street. (Just make sure to bring the DOJ form and tell them you want both DOJ and FBI). read more

Came in for a fingerprint that needed to be submitted for work. They showed up and opened early and got me in and out before my scheduled appt time. Very polite throughout. Did I mention this was on a Saturday? Can't imagine why anybody would give this place less than 5 stars. read more

Went in for fingerprinting today and Peter Tan, the manager (?owner?) and his wife are so nice. Super easy to do and, really FANTASTIC customer service. Parking also easy with nearby parking along Oregon near Telegraph. Would strongly recommend to anyone. read more

The results came back as unreadable by the FBI! Rather than dealing with Cal Live Scan again, I went to a Certifix location and my prints were cleared in 1 day. Surprise surprise. read more

I've done livescans over 5 times. It's a hassle, and my fingerprints are light and can be difficult to scan sometimes. But this time it was a breeze. The couple who run the place are really sweet people. They were warm and pleasant, and I told them I would recommend people to their place. It was also great that they allow walk-in, and there is plenty of street parking around. read more

Stayed an extra minute so I can catch them. So fast, reasonable, and nice!

So efficient and straightforward. The couple who runs the place is so lovely. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Really helpful couple! I'm an Australian, and was confused about what I need to do! Needed live fingerprinting. 5/5! Lovely service.

They're very quick and professional. I felt safe and everything is wiped down throughly. Staff wears gloves, mask, and face shield. Recommend! read more

Good, thorough, efficient, fair prices. I came here twice, once for FBI fingerprinting and another time to get some documents notarized. No appointment needed which was very convenient. Plenty of meter parking outside. read more

Came here for DOJ/FBI live scan, $74 total. Fast service (finish the whole process in less than 5 mins!) , no appointment needed. Located on third floor, exit right of the elevator. Despite all the negative reviews about the elder lady being rude, she really is just trying to start a conversation with you after all! (She asks about my opinion on iPhone X, which is super random ) The man who does the fingerprinting doesn't talk much, but definitely know what he is doing! read more

They should get ZERO stars. The 2 individuals who were working at this office were RACIST, rude, and condescending. I asked for clarification of cost, and rather then answer my questions they proceeded to talk down to me as though I didn't have a right to ask. They continued to say that no one has ever asked questions so I must be the one with the problem. I don't know how much of the money goes to this agency but I hope this review prevents particular folks from giving them any business. read more

Extremely poor service. I paid $90 to have fingerprints taken and sent to DOJ & FBI. They were declined due to erroneous scanning, with clear details describing how they were improperly scanned. The man behind the desk failed to take accountability for this and tried to charge me extra to have them re-taken. When I had questions as to why I was being charged, he started yelling and accusing me personally. Worst customer experience I have ever had, these people are fortunate enough to be in a position where many aspiring professional students are coming to them out of necessity. read more

I needed to get a Live Scan and a fingerprint card (FD-258) for a summer program in which I'll be teaching middle school students, and I chose Cal Live Scan b/c of its proximity to my apartment. I was very happy with their service! The owners were kind and helpful, as well as diligent and quick. If I ever need to get my fingerprints done again, I will definitely use Cal Live Scan. read more

Super simple. Just hand them a form and they know what to do. It took about ten minutes and cost only $25. I never thought I'd be writing a review for a fingerprinting service, but going here was one of the simplest things I've ever had to do. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon to be fingerprinted for my agency who told me to just show up and I would get the forms I needed once there. The guy meet myself and another lady at the door and took us up on the elevator. When I walked up to the desk to tell her what I was here for, she basically shouted "Do you have your forms?" I tried to tell her my agency said to show up and you would know what I needed, but she cut me off again almost shouting "who sent you? What are you here for?"...Once I was finally able to tell her my agency her whole demeanor changed towards me and she became very pleasant. Treat all your clients the same, not just the ones who come from agencies you want to keep your business with read more

It was a mistake coming to this place. This is way worst than the post office! I was not rude or being noisy, but just because I looked at my phone one time to check my work email - the old guy got really upset because of his "no cell phones" policy and immediate stopped my fingerprinting and went to the next blonde lady that he was interested in talking to. They were chatting away and being noisy! The wife apologized for his crazy behavior and eventually took my fingerprints for me. Just because the old guy has life regrets staying at a job where he can't get fired doesn't mean he can take it out on others! read more

I never thought I would have to get a background check (I was applying to a job overseas), so I didn't even know where to look when I was told that I needed to get my fingerprints rolled. Simply put, I am not happy that I came here to get them done. First of all, I only needed one fingerprint card. They did two and charged me for both. When the man was rolling my prints, he kept telling me to relax and so I figured that the first fingerprint card was just done badly and so that is the reason he took out another one and made me roll my prints again. (Either that, or perhaps that was the normal procedure? I wasn't sure because it was my first time having to do this.) Either way, at the end of the procedure, they charged me for both and at the time, I thought maybe it was only fair to be charged both (even though I didn't think a card and ink amounted to that much money), so I paid and thanked them. Now, after having done that, and thinking that all was okay, I get notice from the FBI that the "QUALITY OF THE FINGERPRINT CHARACTERISTICS IS TOO LOW TO BE USED." Excuse me? So, not only after swindling me by making me buy two, BOTH of the fingerprint cards are not up to par for the FBI? So now I have to go get my prints done AGAIN and there is no way I am coming back here when all they did was make me pay more than necessary for TWO CARDS that they didn't do right in the first place! I didn't pay that much money in order for neither cards to go through! So even though the people running the place was nice enough, the quality of their work is shit as far as I'm concerned. (Also, I'm still not convinced that I was not swindled.) So my advice is, DO NOT COME HERE. read more

About two years ago I got my first live scan here for my job and to this day I've been receiving the same consistency of quick and efficient service. I returned recently for passport photos for Canadian citizenship and they got the correct dimensions for the application. read more

My experience was horrible. From the time I walked-in, they were rude: forget about any type of greetings, they were ordering me around, telling me why I was wrong for printing out a Cal Life Scan form from the Web Government site (I thought it would save time), rather than trying to help they kept telling how wrong I was etc... and then when it came to do the actual finger-printing the owner simply went berserk because I did not understand which fingers he wanted first. I had never done this before and English is not my first language, I had no idea what he was asking (with a very strong accent by the way - which I usually don't mind since I have one too). But he was beyond rude, yelling at me! This place should not be conducting government business. I agree with multiple reviews below, the man is racist, rude, arrogant, condescending. read more

The couple who operate this business do a fantastic job. It literally took 10 minutes for me to be fingerprinted: DOJ and FBI. Finding this place was the hard part, but it is a gem. read more

I had to get fingerprinted in order to work in a public school. I felt kind of nervous for some reason (even though I have a totally clean record). The husband/wife team could not have been nicer. I was greeted with a big smile, paperwork was done in seconds. The man did the fingerprinting, which was actually kind of interesting. I didn't know that they have to do all your fingers, which requires the scanner to hold and move your hand. This may sound odd, but the guy was really gentle, as if he knew this could be an awkward scenario, but he went out of his way to make it comfortable. I was done in 5 minutes. At the end of the encounter, the woman gave me a ginger candy and another winning smile. Some of the best customer service I've ever encountered! read more

Their posted hours say 11:00 am on Saturdays. I called to be on the safe side and the voicemail said that for today (Saturday, July 14), they'll open at 12:00. At 12:20, no one answered and the door was locked. If you're not going to be open during your posted hours, don't post your hours! read more

So, I had to get fingerprinted for a school district and they failed to give me a live scan sheet which I found out about AFTER I went to CAL live scan. I tried to call the school district to fax it over however they were closed on A FRIDAY AT 1PM. But, instead of telling me to come back next time, the owners personally looked through their files and found a live scan form for the school district. Saved me the trouble of having to go pick up the form 1+ hour away! DEF recommend, the owners a really nice and the space is very clean/organized. read more

Simple & easy, friendly folks. AND full service (notary service, also fingerprints, passport photos, & more). I've gone to them for many things, also had a good experience. The office is on the third floor, and with only a small sign, so turn right when you get off the elevator & they're in the corner office. read more

very fast / efficient and run by two very sweet people. my other fingerprinting experiences feel like martial law by comparison! highest recommendation! read more

Although the other reviews stated that Cal Live Scan was fast and effortless, I had my doubts (after all it is in Berzerkely where everything you think is normal is not). However, I was nicely surprised by this mom and pop operation. The reviews are true. They are fast, friendly, and helpful. The place is located in an office building (another pleasant surprise). Aaand, the DOJ fingerprint IS only $25; I think if you add an FBI check, you'll get up to $57. Also, they do passport photos!!! There is metered parking on Telegraph, but I found a free spot on Oregon. Go there. read more

It is so wonderful to have great service! I want to do some volunteer work and the city (Oakland) requires a TB Test and a Live Scan. I shopped around (and drove around) to a couple other places on the list....They all wanted $50 and up for the service....you know $25 for the base then this extra and that extra....Cal Live scan only wanted the $25, had parking and was open on Saturday. THANKS! to Cal Live Scan. read more

Cal Live Scan is great for all your fingerprinting and notary needs. Plus they do passport pictures and copying and probably mailing type services too. The couple who run it are always very friendly and Peter Tan, the notary, obviously has a lot of experience. The prices are fair as well. They used to be by the hat store at Telegraph and Durant, but have recently moved down Telegraph, between Russell and ?Oregon? They told me it was because rent was too high at the other place, and although it's now in a big office building where it feels a little strange going in, the service is totally worth it. In fact, the whole entry process lets you feel a little like you're entering an exclusive notary's office. Tres chic. GO HERE! read more

Cal Live Scan moved a little further down Telegraph to save on rent. They passed the rent savings on to the customer -- fingerprints are now $20, instead of $25. They were very friendly, knew what to do with my California State Bar paperwork and it was a very quick experience. Painless! Highly recommended. They accept visa & mastercard. read more

I went here to get a document notarized. The couple who run this place were very professional and provided quick service. They are in the 3rd floor of a big office building and not well advertised about the location. I highly recommend this place. read more

We went there for fingerprint scanning and numerous notary forms (in process of applying to adopt). The same two staff people were there each time. They were very friendly, personable, and efficient. It's never been very busy when we went (I don't think we've ever had to wait). They're in a nice building with an open, airy atrium. Easy free parking on Oregon street. Highly recommended. read more

The man working here wasn't particularly friendly or good at communicating, but he did help me fill out the proper forms. It was a bit awkward when he was rolling my fingers on the scanner with one hand and talking on the phone with the other. The walk in option is very convenient, and it only took me about 20 minutes. read more

So fast and easy! I was blown away by how efficient they were. This will be where I go for all my fingerprinting.

This place is miserable. It's overpriced and the people don't speak English. They refused to help myself and my friend. The woman even questioned his criminal record! They told us they could not help us and told us to go to the Oakland PD instead. I hate being BS'ed. Do not give them your money. read more
