Although I hope to never have to come again in the near future, if I ever need to comply to strict government demands just to lend a helping hand, I would come back! I made an appointment, but I came an hour early. I was the only one there. I doubt the guy on the phone even jot me down in his non-existent planner. But I'm sure he just said what he needed to say over the phone just to make his customer happy. And I am a happy customer. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. He kept telling me to relax because for some reason, I was really tense. I did the best I could, but he was wearing latex gloves, which make me feel funny. But I can never complain about good germ-protection practices. The nice lady told me it's usually $50-60 but she's only charging for $25. I don't know what to believe, since everyone else seemed to get that deal. 2855 Telegraph is the safest building I've been to on Telegraph. Nice, clean bathrooms too! I enjoyed my experience getting my fingerprints done here, even though they've raised the prices from $20 to $25 (as of earlier this month, apparently, according to a sign). I showed up just after 9:30, when they opened, and there was no one else there. The whole process took only about 10-15 minutes, including completing the paperwork for the state bar, which they're totally familiar with, so no hassle at all. Yay! Asian-owned, which I love supporting (the lady wished me a Happy New Year and gave me some candy haha). I've done livescans over 5 times. It's a hassle, and my fingerprints are light and can be difficult to scan sometimes. But this time it was a breeze. The couple who run the place are really sweet people. They were warm and pleasant, and I told them I would recommend people to their place. Despite all the negative reviews about the elder lady being rude, she really is just trying to start a conversation with you after all! I asked for clarification of cost, and rather then answer my questions they proceeded to talk down to me as though I didn't have a right to ask. Extremely poor service. I paid $90 to have fingerprints taken and sent to DOJ & FBI. They were declined due to erroneous scanning, with clear details describing how they were improperly scanned. The man behind the desk failed to take accountability for this and tried to charge me extra to have them re-taken. When I had questions as to why I was being charged, he started yelling and accusing me personally. Worst customer experience I have ever had, these people are fortunate enough to be in a position where many aspiring professional students are coming to them out of necessity. read more

From the time I walked-in, they were rude: forget about any type of greetings, they were ordering me around, telling me why I was wrong for printing out a Cal Life Scan form from the Web Government site (I thought it would save time), rather than trying to help they kept telling how wrong I was etc... and then when it came to do the actual finger-printing the owner simply went berserk because I did not understand which fingers he wanted first. I had never done this before and English is not my first language, I had no idea what he was asking (with a very strong accent by the way - which I usually don't mind since I have one too). I came here on a Saturday afternoon to be fingerprinted for my agency who told me to just show up and I would get the forms I needed once there. The guy meet myself and another lady at the door and took us up on the elevator. When I walked up to the desk to tell her what I was here for, she basically shouted "Do you have your forms?" I tried to tell her my agency said to show up and you would know what I needed, but she cut me off again almost shouting "who sent you? What are you here for?"...Once I was finally able to tell her my agency her whole demeanor changed towards me and she became very pleasant. It was a mistake coming to this place. This is way worst than the post office! I was not rude or being noisy, but just because I looked at my phone one time to check my work email - the old guy got really upset because of his "no cell phones" policy and immediate stopped my fingerprinting and went to the next blonde lady that he was interested in talking to. They were chatting away and being noisy! The wife apologized for his crazy behavior and eventually took my fingerprints for me. I never thought I would have to get a background check (I was applying to a job overseas), so I didn't even know where to look when I was told that I needed to get my fingerprints rolled. Simply put, I am not happy that I came here to get them done. First of all, I only needed one fingerprint card. They did two and charged me for both. When the man was rolling my prints, he kept telling me to relax and so I figured that the first fingerprint card was just done badly and so that is the reason he took out another one and made me roll my prints again. (Either that, or perhaps that was the normal procedure? I wasn't sure because it was my first time having to do this.) Either way, at the end of the procedure, they charged me for both and at the time, I thought maybe it was only fair to be charged both (even though I didn't think a card and ink amounted to that much money), so I paid and thanked them. Now, after having done that, and thinking that all was okay, I get notice from the FBI that the "QUALITY OF THE FINGERPRINT CHARACTERISTICS IS TOO LOW TO BE USED." Excuse me? So, not only after swindling me by making me buy two, BOTH of the fingerprint cards are not up to par for the FBI? So now I have to go get my prints done AGAIN and there is no way I am coming back here when all they did was make me pay more than necessary for TWO CARDS that they didn't do right in the first place! I didn't pay that much money in order for neither cards to go through! So even though the people running the place was nice enough, the quality of their work is shit as far as I'm concerned. (Also, I'm still not convinced that I was not swindled.) So my advice is, DO NOT COME HERE. read more

I had to get fingerprinted in order to work in a public school. I felt kind of nervous for some reason (even though I have a totally clean record). The husband/wife team could not have been nicer. I was greeted with a big smile, paperwork was done in seconds. The man did the fingerprinting, which was actually kind of interesting. I didn't know that they have to do all your fingers, which requires the scanner to hold and move your hand. This may sound odd, but the guy was really gentle, as if he knew this could be an awkward scenario, but he went out of his way to make it comfortable. I was done in 5 minutes. So, I had to get fingerprinted for a school district and they failed to give me a live scan sheet which I found out about AFTER I went to CAL live scan. I tried to call the school district to fax it over however they were closed on A FRIDAY AT 1PM. But, instead of telling me to come back next time, the owners personally looked through their files and found a live scan form for the school district. Saved me the trouble of having to go pick up the form 1+ hour away! DEF recommend, the owners a really nice and the space is very clean/organized. read more

However, I was nicely surprised by this mom and pop operation. The reviews are true. They are fast, friendly, and helpful. The place is located in an office building (another pleasant surprise). The couple who run it are always very friendly and Peter Tan, the notary, obviously has a lot of experience. The prices are fair as well. They used to be by the hat store at Telegraph and Durant, but have recently moved down Telegraph, between Russell and ?Oregon? They told me it was because rent was too high at the other place, and although it's now in a big office building where it feels a little strange going in, the service is totally worth it. Cal Live Scan moved a little further down Telegraph to save on rent. They passed the rent savings on to the customer -- fingerprints are now $20, instead of $25. Got here the other day at 6:05 right after they closed. The doors were locked but I could still see people inside. They saw me at the door but refused to let me in, totally unacomedating! I get that its slightly past your business hours but if you have customers that you're still helping, and you're still here on the clock, whats the harm in letting me in? At the end of the day it's still just more $$$ in your pocket. Berkeley is supposed to be a lose and free sprited city, I expected better. read more
