We'd just finished eating a very tasty meal at a nearby restaurant, and I was in the mood for a small sweet treat. Cakeview was right there and who am I to say no to a place called Cakeview? We walked in and I was bombarded with options. I had actually made a decision, but then the woman who works there plopped down a fresh tray of Cocktail Buns, so obviously I had to get one of those. It's so good. It was super fresh and the coconut filling was delicious. It was sweet enough without being too sweet, which is exactly what I want from most desserts. I have to assume the joint's other offerings are just as good, so Cakeview is a real winner in my books.
The mango cake is legit. I'm not sure about their other pastries, but a friend bought this cake and I took my time savoring my second slice even though my wife was exhausted and my 3 month old baby was crying in the background. The mango was the star of the dish and was generously portioned. It felt like the cake was 70% mango, so i'm not sure how the cake stayed together, but it did. The cake itself was fluffy and the white cream had the perfect amount of creamy sweetness to balance the acidic mango. I want another slice ASAP.
Cakeview Bakery & Cafe has been a longtime staple in the Scarborough community for decades for their classic Cantonese baked items and pastries. Even before COVID-19, locals will wait in line just for their legendary Hong Kong Style Egg Tarts and Portuguese Egg Tarts. Prepared fresh every hour, it's always a good time when you can get a half-dozen fresh tarts for every visit. The crust of their tarts has a nice hint of butter to enhance the sweetness of the custard of either egg tart. I always look forward to enjoy their egg tarts with a shot of espresso and it's worth the wait and drive for them!
Pre-ordered one for my grandma's birthday. Everyone loved the cake and asked for seconds. I would have to order a size up next time. The cake itself was delicious. Mangoes are definitely not in season in December. But whatever they did to get the mangoes sweet, it was amazing. the cake was packed with layers of mango in between the sponge cake. The mango layers on top were beautiful placed like a flower. My whole family was very impressed. Had to deduct a star because: 1.) They called me a day before my pick up date and asked why i still didn't come to pick it up. I already had to schedule pick up a day before my grandma's birthday, as I am from Mississauga and this place is literally across town. So im guessing my cake has been sitting there for a while before i picked it up. 2.) I was not notified that the birthday tag was an extra $2. So now you know. Definitely coming back as grandma said YES! to the cake.
I've heard of Cakeview previously but never knew exactly where it's located. For our family dinner, a friend purchased a mango cake from them and hyped it up to us that it's basically a cake wrapped and stuffed with mango! Well, their description is pretty accurate! It was beautifully wrapped with slices of mango all around topped with a strawberry with gold foil. Inside the cake, there's layers of mango in there also! The cake was soft and tasted very delicious! If you love mangoes, you must try it!
Great spot to get egg tarts! I come here quite often for their egg tarts because they're some of the best I've ever had! Their traditional egg tarts have a lovely super eggy flavour--you know there is some egg goodness here. The crust on the egg tarts are also wonderfully buttery and flakey puff pastry. Their Portuguese egg tarts are also quite nice, less eggy compared to their Asian counterparts, but still delicious in their own way. They use a traditional tart/pie crust on these. Their fresh milk egg tart was quite nice. Definitely the least eggy of the egg tarts, but it has a really like taste to it. It reminds me of deep fried fried milk--if you've ever tried that. Overall, really amazing place for all your egg tart needs! Their prices are some of the best, and all the items can be warmed before you eat it. The only bad part is that the workers kind of always look displeased, not displeased about you, but about...life.
Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find a place to satisfy my egg tart craving that was opened after I got off work around 7:45pm! I called them to ensure they still had egg tart left and they said yes butter cookie crust-my favorite, the only egg tart I like!! There were still about a dozen or so tarts left when I got there a around 8pm! There were 3 egg white milk tarts left but they looked kinda dried up! I stuck to my mission and got half dozen cookie crust egg tarts! $8.40/6 no tax! I took off a star coz the lady that was there weren't very friendly when I asked her how much they were coz the price tag wasn't in its show case. She just mumbled and I couldn't hear her when I asked her to repeat she just pointed at the price list by the counter. I guess OG places like this aren't known for its friendliness! I would go back if I had an evening craving again! The tart were decent, maybe it will taste better heated up!
Ok ladies and gentlemen, If you're looking for the best flaky crust egg tarts in Canada. This is the place. I've travelled all over eating egg tarts my whole life, and this place takes the crown. Every weekend I order a dozen of these egg tarts. It is best to call in and reserve your dozen of half dozen at least 20 minutes before arriving to avoid disappointment. Also, this bakery makes the best fresh mango sliced cakes in all of Toronto. I've tried some other places, and the inside cake portion just doesn't have the right taste or flavouring. But at Cakeview Bakery, they make the mango cakes with the perfect amount of sweetness and no strange artificial flavour aftertaste. On Mother's Day, these folks have a assembly line of mango cakes being produced and sold. They must sell over 70 of these cakes on Mother's Day. Their two signature items at this bakery are the Flaky crust egg tarts and their fresh mango cake! Go, and come back and give me a like for compliment on this review!
I haven't been here in years. I was in the neighbourhood and decided to come by for some afternoon tea. It was quite busy with customers constantly streaming through the shop whether to stay and eat or purchase some pastries to take away. We ordered the fried pork chop bun, pork pickled cabbage vermicelli in soup and the chicken vermicelli in soup. It didn't take long for our food to come out. Each item is $5.99 with a choice of beverage (coffee or tea). Although the fried pork chop bun is good it is not worth paying that amount. We were a bit disappointed as we used to come frequently and remembered it being much better.
Other than having found an eyelash in my cake... (that's a Chinese bakery for ya..).. my mango cake was delicious. I'm sure they pre-soak the mangos in syrup or glaze it with some sort of syrup first because the presentation and flavour of the cake is always so consistent year-round. The sponge cake is nice and fluffy, the cream is light, and the mangoes are so tasty. For "Asian" tastebuds, the mango cake is a great choice for a celebratory cake. Asides from mango, they also have durian, black forest, tiramisu, and green tea flavours.

If you're looking for a fresh mango cake, you better bookmark this spot!! As we didn't pre-order (which I'd recommend doing next time), I ended up having to come back after a bite next door to pickup the made-to-order cake as there were no readily available mango cakes. Comparing this to one of my other must-order spots for this style of cake, the portion of the mango is super generous here. Thick slices too! It was actually to the point where it almost looked like the cake was going to cave in (from the weight of all the mango slices) but this can also be attributed to the fact that it was literally just made moments ago so it hasn't all set in. Over the years I've also tried some of their buns. They are just alright, it's what you'd like expect from the standard offerings seen at most Chinese bakeries. Service is hit or miss as well. read more
This place is literally our family's "go-to" spot for birthday cakes! The best mango cakes in the city with a ton of mangos, soft sponge cake and light cream that's not too sweet. Their service is top notch as well. Usually if I call the day before, they can have the cake ready for the following day. Their shop is located in a pretty busy plaza and it's fairly small but clean. Best mango cake in Scarborough!! We have been ordering their mango cake for the last 3 years for every birthday. It's not too sweet, very light cream, and a generous amount of mango slices and chunks for every bite. We usually order at least a day in advance and our order is always fresh and ready for pickup. The staff are lovely and always greet us with smiles! There's plenty of free parking in the plaza. It's a cozy little shop with some pastries and other baked goods. 2026-03-28 read more

The mango cake is the bomb over here. If you know you know. This bakery has been in this plaza for more than 10 years. Maybe even 15-20 years. Mango cake is soooooo good here. I highly recommend it I even came in the morning and put an order for pick up after 4:00. And they accommodated. read more

Long overdue review on Cakeview Bakery & Cafe! I frequent this cafe almost everyday for breakfast and for snacks in the afternoon :) It has become a local's favorite place for cheap good eats. Staff are always quick on their feet and work very efficiently aka extreme multitasking. This cafe is quite busy most of the time. They offer all day breakfast, you can even order items off the afternoon tea time menu during breakfast time (unlike other cafes that are so strict!) They stay competitive by keeping prices low. There are so many returning customers everyday. Food quality and quantity are very consistent (some items can be consistently bad lol... aka beef brisket dishes, and french macarons are not quite up to par, sorry!) They offer a variety of Hong Kong styled good eats and always come up with new products to sell - whether they are buns, or new cake flavours. Recently discovered their NEW creme brulee tart #yum! The staff talks a lot and can be quite loud lol. Sometimes you just can't help but eavesdrop on their funny conversations hehe... I find their service... still not great BUT getting a bit better! I remember a few weeks ago, I got myself a pineapple bun and sat down to eat (you can pay at the counter once you finished your meal). The waitress quickly came over, offered me some napkins, and asked if I wanted anything to drink :) What happened before was once you sat down, they take their sweet time to come over and ask if you would like to order -_-" so glad that was fixed! Keep it up, Cakeview! P.S. Anything pork chop related is really good aka pork chop bun, pork chop with rice/noodles dishes... can't go wrong :) read more

Cakeview Bakery & Cafe is located in the plaza at Midland and Finch right next to Vietnamese Noodle Star. Good place to go for some dessert or HK style milk tea after your pho fix. It is really a HK style Western Cafe and a bakery all combine together. This place is really small... if you do eat in, you do have table services but you will have people walking around you buying cakes or using the tongs to get their Chinese buns. The tables are really tight together so it is really in and out place not for a leisure place to slip your tea and enjoy your pastry. The pastry/dessert/cakes here are more westernize VS other Chinese bakeries and the prices do reflect that. Piece of cake starts at $3.00 and the Macaron at $1.10 a loonie sized piece. They are a tad more creamy and sweet and rich than typical Chinese bakery pastries but nothing compare to the European ones, hopefully, praying they will not be as fattening. The macaron is small and you can kind of pop them in your mouth while you writing yelp reviews and don't even realized that you just ate 6 of those.. yes they are quite tasty! Breakfast starts at 7:30 AM and have all kind of specials. I might come in for a quite pick up of some milk tea or pastries when I have the cravings! They accepts Cash only! read more

Reason for Visit: Going to a birthday party and this bakery was recommended by several coworkers Menu: I really couldn't find a menu or prices in how the cakes were sold, there were some signs at the front but not very obvious. Anyhow, Cakeview is known for their fresh mango cake so I asked for it the moment I went in. The cashier immediately told me that you have to order in 1 hr in advance as it is made fresh. The cake ranges from 6' to 10'. Luckily, the person in front of me was late to pick up and I managed to buy theirs. A 8' mango cake was $55 including tax. Service: Friendly. The cashier and chef/owner were both very approachable and friendly. Speaks both Cantonese/Mandarin. Atmosphere: Nice simple bakery with some tables if you want to sit down for a snack. Overall: 4/5. I would say the price is on the pricier side, but it really was quite a good cake. It is no surprise that the mango cakes are in such high demand! read more
I literally grew up eating here. The food here is comfort food to me. It's basically a bakery and HK cafe. They have very cheap food with big portions, and all meals come with a drink. I've had all their dishes from their rice dishes to their noodle soup dishes. With such affordable prices and good taste, I definitely recommend coming here for a quick bite. They also have a wide variety of Chinese buns and cakes to buy too. read more

Best mango cake around. Many more bakery's do this style of mango cake now but this place still takes the cake, pun intended. Egg tarts are also amazing. Make sure you order ahead of time as they sell out fast! read more

Amazing mango mousse cake layered with AND covered in slices of fresh mango. One of the very few places that does this and loaded with mostly mango rather than cake and mousse. Good price, $28 for 6", just perfect for 4 generous servings. Very light, soft and moist cake, not too sweet, perfect for mango lovers. They also sell many other cakes, like the durian cheesecake, which is comparatively cheaper than other places as well. One thing I would criticize on is the fact that they charge $5 for writing on a cake. Other than bakery, this tiny bakery also serves HK cafe food, like rice roll, rice, noodles, and siu mai etc. Friendly and quick service. The menu has wide selection of food and drinks for really good price, which barely increased over the years. Quality of food not bad and the HK milktea is actually pretty good. That's probably why this place is always crowded. Only 6 small tables, so good luck getting seat. The parking is hectic as always. However, it is always worth the wait for the good food. It is open every day for long hours. Just be reminded that it is another cash-only place. read more
My wife loves egg tarts - one of her favorite childhood treats, and she's tried a lot of them from bakeries across the GTA. A friend recommended this place as having good egg tarts so I picked up some to try. They have the traditional flaky and butter crust, durian, Portuguese, and milk tarts. While my wife detests durian, I actually like it and grabbed one. The custards were all smooth, not too sweet and the crusts were flaky. The durian had a strong flavor and was actually my favorite. It's difficult to find parking in this plaza since there are so many restaurants along with a Tim Horton's. The egg tarts ranged from $1.30 - $1.80 each. read more

There are quite alot of Chinese bakery in Scarborough. This bakery been around for a while, maybe 20 years. I finally tried there egg tart a few years back and have love it ever since. They make one of the best egg tarts around, the 5 stars is only for the egg tart. You can choose flaky or buttery crust, they also have milk tart, portuguese and durian maybe something else as well. Besides the tarts they have buns, pastries and cakes. Not a big fan of buns so there buns was alright. Next time I will try the other pastries and cakes. read more
