    A glimpse inside

We walked in on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. There was a farmers market outside so the streets were busy. Service was top notch the waitress was sweet and never let the coffee or water drop below half. We sat by the windows up front and got to people watch while dining. I had the fried chicken benedict with grits. Nice choice, chicken was cooked perfectly and eggs were poached just right. Topped with a bland gravy but a little hot sauce and pepper kicked it right up. There was bacon under the chicken and a dry biscuit underneath it all. Pretty good but if they made the biscuit light and fluffy with a good sausage gravy it would have been heavenly.

Huge portions! Huevos rancheros is filling with rice and beans included, as well as usual eggs and tortilla and all the salsas. Chorizo was perfect. Corner beef hash dish is hefty with a portion size of the entire dish. Beignets were nice but denser than traditional beignets from Nola. Service very attentive and professional. Seating can be tight with really no perfect table for more than 4 people. Booths can be small.

Not the first time we've been to this place so I decided to add another review on it. We were seated quickly, which it was pretty amazing considering it was Sunday morning around 10 AM. The place was busy, but not too bad. We were seated quickly and got our coffees and ordered our food. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife ordered the chili Verde omelette. The portions were perfect and the food was delicious. The service was quick and efficient. We will definitely be returning.

I have not been inside the establishment so I can't comment on the ambiance or the service within the establishment. However I can comment on the food. Cajun Kitchen Cafe delivers a punch of flavor! Every dish I have had, and I've had many, has been delicious! Their biscuits and gravy are dense and satisfyingly filling. The fried chicken Benedict is perfection. The chicken and waffles is outstanding! The bacon is exactly how it should be, every time. I have never been disappointed by a single dish. Everything is cooked to perfection, and I can only imagine how much better it is when it's fresh out of the kitchen, straight to the table. If it's this delicious when I have it delivered, it must be exceptional when brought directly to table. 10/10 reccomend! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The portions are generous, so show up with a big appetite. This is our go to brunch spot nearly every weekend.

It was a beautiful, sunny 73 degrees when we arrived in Ventura, with the cool ocean breeze coming through Main Street as we were deciding where to go for lunch. With our love for spicy food, Cajun Kitchen Cafe caught our attention. We were greeted and seated right away with our drink order taken as we looked through the menu. Everything sounded really good. Ultimately we wanted to try a couple of our Louisiana favorites, so we went with the Jambalaya and Etouffée with a plan to end with the Beignets. The wait wasn't too long for our food. My husband really enjoyed his Jambalaya. He mentioned that it was spicier than others he's had. The warm biscuit was a perfect complement as it helped temper the heat down a bit. The menu described the Etouffée creole sauce as "mildly spicy". It was delicious but SPICY! The cornbread did nothing to temper that down for me, lol. My husband tried some and said it was spicier than the Jambalaya. The restaurant closed early for the Labor Day holiday. Although there were still some customers as we finished, we chose not to order anything else. We'll have to come back for those Beignets! Our drinks were kept refilled. Portions were generous. Nice and friendly servers.

Walked in and chose our seat and our waiter came over after a few minutes and took our order! I ordered chili verde omelette and wife ordered bacon and eggs. CVO was pretty average and hash browns as well. It was nice that they had a Cajun seasoning on the table that definitely helped. My wife's Bacon and eggs were again pretty average. Nothing wrong with either dish just really pretty average. Restaurant was moderately clean and service was an again pretty average nothing really good or bad! Prices are decent and there are a lot of options to choose from. Only a handful of good breakfast options in town so I can see us coming back at some point! Maybe be a little more adventurous next time and try one of the Cajun breakfast options!

Really enjoyed our visit to Cajun Kitchen Cafe! The food was delicious, the service was super friendly, and it was such a pleasant surprise to see a baby changing station in the restroom. It made things so much easier for us as new parents. We really appreciate when restaurants think about families -- we'll definitely be coming back!

    Seafood gumbo

We came in for lunch before our walk in the Botanical Gardens. Great wait staff, from when we entered until we left, we felt welcomed and appreciated. We ordered the beignets with syrup and I believe there's about 9 on the plate. They tasted similar to a donut. I had the Heuvoes Rancheros. It had red beans and rice with cut up andouille sausage. Slices of avacado, sour cream on two tortillas. Absolutely delicious, but very saucy! My son ordered the Seafood Gumbo and the bowl was big enough for 3 people! He loved his. We took home our leftovers.

Beingets with fruit and caramel sauce

I've been here twice. The first time, I tried the jambalaya. I love spicy food, but the meal was too spicy for me. It's probably because I'm from Southern California and not Louisiana? I could have tolerated the jambalaya better if it had rice on the side instead of in the broth. The second time I went, I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered beingets with fruit. The donuts were made fresh and the fruit and caramel sauce seemed so too! I liked them a lot. My dad also enjoyed his turkey bacon avocado tomato sandwich.

Tried to place while visiting Ventura. Glad we did. The food portions were huge and pretty tasty. They had friendly service and free public parking across the street if you come early enough.

The decor is crowded and not cohesive. It feels cluttered. The tables are and walls and seats are sticky even when clean. It just all seemed a bit...dingy. They had that fun little peg game to play to keep you busy but half of them are missing pieces and they are also really dirty. We ordered hot chocolate (yum) and some basic breakfast items. My husband really liked his items. He said he would give his at least a 4 stars, but this is my yelp review lol. My food was very bland and not flavorful. I could have made the same thing at home. I don't mind spending money. In fact, I love going out to a good breakfast, but it has to be a good breakfast. If it's subpar it's really a waste of money and calories for me and that what I feel this experience was. I think I got "crunchy" French toast and it had mildly soggy corn Flakes on it. The idea was fun but the execution wasn't great. My husband simply ordered meat, eggs and potatoes. It was okay, nothing to write home about. Take what I say with a grain of salt and maybe try it for yourself. It could have been an off day for the kitchen or staff? Personally I don't think I will be back or recommend but I can tell you there were clearly regulars here that day and they do have quite a reputation so at some point they have done something right.

At 9:30AM there was already a line with about 5 parties ahead of us. We only waited for about 20 minutes and we were able to sit al fresco to enjoy the sun & people watching. I ordered a Cortado with Oat milk for my espresso kick and my husband enjoyed the Tuscan Sunrise juice from the seasonal menu (fresh pineapple, orange, carrot, ginger, lemon and tumeric) that was refreshing and restoring. I loved their signature Breakfast Lasagna, which was fully stacked and hearty - layers of bacon, bechamel, prosciutto cotto, spinach, eggs, and mozzarella, all smothered in marinara and topped with a fried egg. It's more than filling and great to share with someone who ordered brunch entree on the sweet side like pancakes or Belgium waffles. My husband had the Chicken Avocado Bacon Panini with Swiss & cheddar cheeses, butter lettuce, garlic aioli and caramelized onions. He asked to omit the roma tomatoes. I had a bite and it was yummy...great for a lunchy entree. We finished the meal with another season menu item, the Pistachio Ricotta Cake. I could have ordered two...not to share, just for me. It was really good and I hope they keep it to their standard menu. The service was at a slower pace, but the server did check on us periodically. Once your seat is ready, you order at the counter and you get a number. The staff that took our order was awesome. Friendly, warm, high energy, and efficient. Our order came out in about 10-15 min. Water is self serve. Drip coffee- perfect and high quality. It tasted like Kona coffee! Lavender matcha- great and well balanced Japanese milk bread- this fell a tad short for me. I would've liked both sides to be seasoned/flavored. Japanese Milk bread is typically moist and fluffy , however this was a little dry likely due to the toasting of the bread. The color overall was lighter than expected. It's served with a berry sauce which is really yummy. Side of smashed potatoes- really good. Perfectly seasoned and ketchup tasted homemade Aussie meat pie- soooooo delicious! The crust was awesome and the meat was tender. We also loved the side salad because it had a little zing of lemon. A rare moment where a side salad is actually fantastic! Miso chicken katsu Sando- really loved this! The chicken breast is huge. As other reviews stated, it's not a typical chicken katsu. If you like honey, you'll like this. The honey sauce hits you on the front end and ends with a little acidity from the aioli and slaw. The sandwich was super juicy and flavorful. While large, it didn't feel heavy. Each bite got better and better. Brontë bowl - OUR FAVORITE!!!! Ok first off, I hate mushrooms with a passion, but I kept them in the order because they are curried and I knew theyre an essential part of the dish. They were awesome. I didn't mind them one bit. This dish does not need salmon, and if anything I think adding it would've been too salty. I naturally eat fast but this bowl makes you slow down because of the layers/elements. The sweetness of onions, the creaminess of the feta and avocado, the crunch from the seeds, the delicious pesto, the buttered bread, the perfectly poached eggs - UGH! So perfect! Everything had a purpose. I am obsessed with this bowl. It is so much more filling than you'd think. I could eat this everyday and I hope they never change it. Ambiance was great. We sat at the bar which felt spacious. The inside is gorgeous and just puts you in a good mood. The best thing about this place is the staff. Literally every single person we interacted with was amazing! Everyone here is friendly, warm, and just looks happy to be there. I can't wait to return!!!!!

There is something about this place that immediately lifts your mood the moment you walk inside. The atmosphere feels warm lively and full of personality in a way that teenagers naturally connect with. It has that comfortable playful energy where you can sit down talk with someone enjoy your food and feel like you are part of a fun little world without any pressure at all. I did not expect it to feel that youthful and inviting but it absolutely did. One thing that stood out to me more than anything else was the garlic bread. Busy Bee Cafe is the only location I know that has garlic bread with a taste I genuinely love. I do not even know if they sell that exact garlic bread online and honestly that mystery makes it feel even more special. The flavor is warm buttery and rich in a way that hits you instantly. It is the kind of garlic bread that teenagers would enjoy a lot especially if they are hanging out with friends and looking for something comforting and delicious to share. It is rare to find something so simple that leaves such a strong impression. While I was there I noticed a lot of teenagers enjoying the space and it made perfect sense. The cafe has a classic retro charm that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. It is the kind of place where teenagers can take pictures enjoy the decor and feel completely at ease. The environment supports creativity and fun without trying too hard. I appreciated that same feeling myself. It reminded me of how easy it can be to enjoy a place when the atmosphere naturally encourages you to relax and be present. I have only visited Busy Bee Cafe once in my life before writing this review but that one visit was more than enough to make it memorable. It is rare to find a place that feels relaxed and exciting at the same time but this cafe manages to do that effortlessly. The garlic bread alone makes me want to return but the overall experience is what stays with you. It is playful welcoming and full of life in a way that makes you feel mentally sharp youthful and connected to the moment. I would highly recommend that teenagers go to Busy Bee Cafe in Ventura.
