I very nicely told the waitress about this issue (I hate complaining at restaurants) and she was rude. Only gave a 20% discount on the $70 meal. Came here on Memorial day and it was packed. We waited about 20min for a table, and even longer to get service/ our food. The kitchen must have been severely backed up because the next table was seated for 30min before their order was even taken. When it arrived, the food was pretty good. 2 positives: the amount of protein they give is good; both dishes per packed with seafood. and their (free) water didn't taste like dirty tap water. since this is a "cajun" kitchen cafe, we ordered gumbo and jambalaya. the gumbo was terrible. i've never tasted a worse gumbo. it tasted like the roux got burned and instead of starting over, just served the dish. maybe we came on a bad day. the jambalaya was like a tomato soup. i've never had such a watery jambalaya, but at least it wasnt burnt. we may have ordered the wrong items. some other customers ordered from the breakfast menu. their food looked tasty and plentiful. read more

Got here bright and early before a morning workout. Arrived at 6:15 am and was seated immediately. I really like how early they open this breakfast spot because most places don't open that early. Anyways my boyfriend and I got two hot chocolates. The hot chocolate was sweet and tasty. My boyfriend got the classic Belgian waffle with strawberries and I got the coconut flaked French toast with bananas. My boyfriend seemed to really enjoy his breakfast. The coconut French toast I got was good but just very very sweet!! Definitely would get it next time with a non sweet drink such as orange juice or ice cold water. The hot chocolate was sweet and the French toast was sweet as well so it was just overall too much sweetness. However the French toast had a very nice taste with the coconut flakes and the banana toppings. This place always provides great, fast service and for that reason I'm always to happy to come here. Had a very mediocre experience here. I loved the food at the downtown location, but would not be back to the Goleta location. My friend and I both ordered the shrimp and grits with no cheese. The service here was mediocre at best -- it was difficult to flag down a server to order (my friend and I both made eye contact with and attempted to wave down different servers multiple times, but they all ignored us, until a male server eventually came over) When our food came out, the shrimp in my dish was overcooked and dry, and I thought that the grits were bland. I had ordered the same dish downtown a couple weeks ago and loved it, so I was extremely disappointed. Cajun Kitchen Cafe is tired of hearing you butcher the pronunciation of their scrumptious fried dough treat! You never heard of a beignet? Well me neither, until the locals brought me here. He said that I have to get the beignets here--forget the beaches, the wine tastings, the hikes--just bin-yays. So, here we were at this doughy wonderland, a party of 6 on a Sunday. The wait wasn't that bad actually, perhaps 20 minutes. Parking abundant. First things first, we got the beignets with everything, the strawberries, whipped cream, the works. I wish there were more for the price, it was everything that I imagined it to be. Like biting into clouds of syrupy doughy goodness. I ordered the jambalaya and eggs, one of the starred items on the menu, for myself. I figured you can't go wrong with starred items right? Like when you get a star on your classwork because you got all your multiplication table problems right. Remember those days? Remember that high, that feeling of blissful satisfaction and good decision making? Well, the jambalaya sure didn't bring me to those times at all. Now, I'm no jambalaya expert, so I can't say much for what it's supposed to be, but it pretty much tasted like minestrone soup to me. If I wanted soup, I probably wouldn't have paid $13 for it. At least it came with corn bread. That was decent. My friends ordered items ranging from eggs benne to biscuits and gravy. Those looked pretty good. Wow what a gem - the food was amaaaazing. They serve breakfast all day! There's so much tasty stuff on the menu it's hard to choose actually. Fast friendly service, coffee refills! It's what diners used to be like, but are so hard to find now. The ambience is chill no frills - more booths and later hours would be my only improvement suggestion but we grabbed one and they hooked us up even though there was less than an hour to closing. This location was close to our hotel and didn't want to spend a ton on breakfast. Food: I'd give it 4 stars because the selection was great, quality was up there - enjoyed beignets, heuvos rabcheros and an omelet. Lower score was for service and ambiance. Had 3 different people wait on our table at various times so that made things a little disorganized. Also a little annoying that the music in the restaurant was on quite loud, and is basically a radio station with advertising piped in. If your looking for a hearty, tasty breakfast in the Goleta area this will do the trick. Nothing fancy. read more

I would give this place a solid 4 stars! My friends and I came here on a Saturday morning, and the wait was about 20 minutes. However, I've definitely been here when the wait was 40 minutes, so plan accordingly- it can get very busy during the weekends. They have a LOT of different menu items which makes it very hard to decide what to get! I opted for a Hawaiian waffle [Belgian waffle topped with whipped cream, coconut flakes and pineapple]. To be honest, I was kind of underwhelmed. The flavor was good, but it was nothing too special and the toppings weren't exactly abundant. That being said, their beignets are to die for! We were seated within 10 minutes of arriving. This place was pretty crowded and the servers were working nonstop. // FOOD // Corned beef hash: green bell peppers, potatoes, onions with choice of toast. I thought the food was on the lighter side in terms of flavor, but the salsa that they served on the side was perfect for this dish. The salsa had a slight kick to it which was perfect! 3.5/5 $12.75 Jambalaya and eggs: Creole jambalaya with rice, shrimp, ham, andouille sausage, chicken with your choice of toast, cornbread or a biscuit. The jambalaya was more watery versus other restaurants, but the flavor was on point! It says that it's spicy, but it didn't have much of a kick to it. 4/5 $13.75 Overall, I really enjoyed the Southern Creole style of the food here. There was a couple other items on the menu that peaked my interest so I'll have to come back again to try it out sometime. read more

This is my second or third time coming to Cajun Kitchen. This time I had the Beignets and pork chop with Hashbrowns and sourdough toast. The beignets were the first to come out, my girlfriend and I ate the beignets near instant they were crispy, fluffy and covered in powdered sugar. Once we finished the beignets, our food came out (unfortunately no pics). The Pork chop was dry, hashbrowns, and egg were good. Service was good, the food was decent, the quantity made me full for hours, in my opinion for the price it was pretty worth. read more

Came here on a Sunday around 2PM. First off, I love that they still seated us even though it was 30 minutes before closing. There have been times where I've been shunned away from restaurants because it was too close to closing time. There wasn't a wait too, which was nice! :) I love love their corn bread, it's SUPER warm and delicious and is easy to break off. It gets a little flaky, but it's so worth with their butter and apple jam (not sure what it's really supposed to be?) Their biscuit was really good, too, but definitely the star of the meal was the corn bread. I got their Jambalaya & Eggs, and it was super great! It was a bit spicy with a lot of seasoning. Also their portions are huge so I actually took half of mine to go. You can probably finish it, but I was too busy with their corn bread. My bf got the Western Veggie Omelet and added avocado for $1.25. He said the omelet was good, but paying extra for avocado was not. Their customer service was great, and the waiter checked on us! TIP: Be sure to come early or come late because there's always a wait during peak hours for brunch!! Also, they have a small selection of vegetarian options! Thank you for this! I tried giving this place a second chance with different chilaquiles and man, I should have trusted my gut from the first time. I was hoping the red sauce would be great but it tasted very burnt. Everything else was okay but the sauce was too overpowering and I couldn't get the burnt taste out of the whole dish. I took about 5 bites total. One word... CORNBREAD!! Cajun Kitchen offers yummy food, friendly and accommodating staff, and very fast service. A MUST GO breakfast / brunch restaurant. Came here for breakfast on Sunday morning and we waited for about 15 minutes for a party of four. The parking is quite small so definitely carpool or you can find parking across the street in the plaza. Ironically, each person in our group ordered omelets, and we got beignets to share for the table. The thing is came right away, hot and fresh. There was about 10 or so in the basket, with honey and maple syrup to go with it. It was plenty enough for each of us to have at least two or three. They were fluffy and light, I didn't feel heavy even after eating a few of them. We quickly figured out that they were incredibly fast with their service because soon after the Beignets came out, within five minutes all of our omelettes were out on the table. The omelettes were a very good portion, none of us were able to finish it and ended up getting a box to go. I really like that they give you a side of toast and hash browns or fried potatoes. But the absolute BEST part was that you can substitute your toast for cornbread!!! I love their cornbread because it was Fluffy and light, with a side of apple butter which I absolutely loved as well. They gave you a pretty good portion as well which I definitely appreciate it. It was so good I really wanted to order an extra serving of cornbread to go. Unfortunately, I really wanted to try their jambalaya but the server told me that it was quite spicy and I wasn't sure if I can handle it so I will probably come back and order it with a friend who can eat spicy food in case I can't finish mine. The other thing I want to mention about their service was that they were constantly attentive to the water in my cup. I'm one of those people that constantly drink water and have to flag someone down a few times to refill my cup. But I didn't have to do that here and every time I water was empty there was somebody there to refill it for me right away without me asking so I appreciated that very much. This is a must to go place when you're in the area so definitely come by for breakfast or brunch. Pre-covid, there isn't a time on the weekends when this place didn't have a waiting list and line. Portions are great, prices are reasonable since the portions are a great size, and a good variety for your breakfast choices. I've tried their most basic options (usual bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns type items), to the Cajun flavors like their Jambalaya and Gumbo, along with sandwiches like tri-tip for example. Standard food you can't go wrong with. Be sure to get beignets whenever you visit also! It's great. I also appreciate them having freshly squeezed orange juice. read more
