Came here for breakfast since it's a family member's usual local spot. You can tell it's mostly regulars here. The service is friendly. It's a really casual diner with indoor and outdoor patio space. I ordered menudo since it's a weekend special. You can actually request to have no hominy. I just asked for less hominy since some places is mostly hominy in menudo. We also ordered some pancakes, omelets and corn beef hash. I'd say the seasoning is on the very light side. I had to add salt to my menudo and other dishes. Maybe it's catered to the older regulars here, which is totally fine. The corn beef hash was dry though. And the pancakes are chewey. You get a filling meal but to me they don't taste great especially all the dishes are on the pricey side for what it is. But I'd come here for the local experience and just hang out. read more

I came in with my son and a friend, got a coffee and ordered breakfast. The food came out quickly and was oh so very good. The coffee was drinkable, but the food was worth it. The omelette was so full of bacon it wasn't even funny. Maybe 8 ounce or so of bacon. It was perfect. I also enjoyed the cottage cheese very good as well. We came here on Monday brunch and it wasn't busy at all. We were quickly seated with our drink orders taken swiftly. We ordered the salmon Benedict with hash browns and a veggie burger with hash browns. I substituted the cream cheese for avocado. The poached egg was perfectly gooey and the Hollandaise sauce flavorful, creamy, and savory. I love a good hash brown that is crispy so I wish it was crispy throughout but it was chunky size. Cody's is great. Old school style cafe with great service and delicious breakfast and lunch options. My favorite is the club sandwich on sourdough. It comes with fries and salad, which is both awesome and a good way to put yourself in position for a food coma. The pancakes and omelettes are also solid choices, but you can't go to wrong here. They used to offer dinner, and I hope someday they bring it back, but I'd highly suggest you check out Cody's and their sister restaurant, Mesa Cafe. Great service, horrible quality food. I usually like to be positive when it comes to restaurants but genuinely this was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I cannot recommend this less. I feel bad being so critical but niceness can only get you so far and this food didn't cut it. The hashbrowns were soggy AND stale at the same time. My french toast had the consistency of SLUDGE and the bacon was hard as rock. Not to mention the food being bland. The only thibg that was decent was the buttered sour dough and the water. I don't understand where my review went. We have been going to this café for a number of years. So I'll start all over. I love their coffee, its Peet's and that's what I have at home. My husband and I both had chili Verde omelettes and we ate all of the omelette. I had fruit and we split it and he had hashbrowns and we split that. The hashbrowns were just OK. He got an English muffin and I got a blueberry muffin and we took them home. The staff is extremely friendly, no matter who you have. read more

This was my first time visiting Cody's Cafe. We were greeted politely and seated quickly, and a very kind gentleman brought us coffee, which started things off on a good start. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. I ordered a burrito, but when it arrived, it was so soggy at the bottom that I couldn't even hold it--it was falling apart in my hands. I tried cutting it, but the tortilla was so wet that it just kept disintegrating, making a complete mess. I let the waitress know about the issue, but she didn't seem to care at all. Her only response was, "It's because of the salsa," and then she just walked away. No apology, no offer to fix it--nothing. I've honestly never had a burrito that soggy before. Looking for a restaurant that served soup, I found Cody's. I ordered the chicken & rice soup, side salad and garlic bread. The large pieces of chicken breast and vegetables in a delicious chicken broth hit the spot on a rainy day. My husband had the hot pastrami sandwich with a side salad and fries. The pastrami had no fat on it and was very tasty. Stacy was our server and was friendly, efficient and regularly checked with us to make sure we had everything we wanted. Although the building was older, the restaurant was clean, comfortable inside (we sat in a booth next door o a window) and can seat quite a few people inside and out. I hadn't been to Cody's in a minute (years), but it was close and I was hungry. I ordered the Cobb Salad to go with no tomatoes. The girl on the phone was very nice and the employees in-person were friendly. I was asked which dressing I would like and chose balsamic. When I opened the box at home, I noticed most of the bacon was chewy/fatty pieces. The chicken was ok (a bit chewy) and the lettuce as well. This salad was not worth $16+ in my opinion, but it did fill me up and good to know for the future. They serve all your favorite breakfast and lunch dishes: french toast, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, benedicts, scrambles, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and so much more. Prices are reasonable for the portions served. Some of the things I've ordered before: Short Stack: Two very large pancakes. It seems like someone left them on the griddle for a little too long, the top was a bit charred and it had a burnt taste to it. Wasn't too fluffy. The accompanying scrambled eggs and patty sausage were just ok. Fish and Chips: Impressively fried and flakey fish, with a nice golden color. Fries were also crispy. Served with a side of coleslaw. Homemade Pot Roast: Tender meat cooked in red wine. Decent. They used to be open during the evenings in the past, but dining after 5:00 PM is now limited to private parties and events. Good place for breakfast. Restaurant has a nice outdoor set up. Servers were all wearing face masks. I noticed they took a lot of time cleaning and disinfecting the tables. Tables were all distanced apart. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Our server was very good, he was friendly, and periodically, came to check on us. Very good service!! If you like sourdough toast, I highly recommend to try theirs. My husband had the biscuits and gravy, highly recommended. I had to scrambled eggs and the hash browns, very good!! I love the atmosphere... but there's a few things. First for the good... the service is very good. They have tons of people working, likely more than needed. I was asked for coffee refills by at least 4 different people in the span of 5 minutes. The atmosphere is warm and like a 1990s diner. Coffee is good and strong. Food tastes pretty good, not stellar. My waitress was really nice and the food did come quickly and hot. I loved going here because the service was good and so were the prices... however, the prices are no longer affordable for me to go. For two people, we ordered two omelets and two cups of coffee. No extras and after tip it was 56.00 (20% tip). That is nearly 20.00 per omelet. The portions were ok, but lately more on the skimpy side. I'm not immune to the fact that goods cost more now, but when a Denver style omelet is 17.00, I'm inclined to pass. Maybe in a fancier hotel or beachfront restaurant but not an older diner in Goleta. read more

Cody's is definitely a local institution. The pandemic has added some great outdoor seating allowing you to enjoy the beautifully consistent SB weather. Walking in you're hit with an interesting surf vibe the belies the otherwise mahogany furnishings. There is an interesting bar which seems to be plopped down randomly but is fully functional and offers great seating for singles. My bartender Sandy was amazing. Had the ham steak and eggs with cottage fries, biscuit, side of gravy, and a Bloody Mary. The good: First off, get the Bloody Mary, it is one of the best in town. Great pour and the mix is a perfect base from which to make more spicy should you like it that way. The ham and eggs were a great value. Perfectly cooked eggs and an ample amount to cottage fries. The interesting: The biscuits are sweet which adds an interesting contrast when looking for a more traditional B&G option. It isn't bad but it does take you a minute to adjust to the juxtaposition. As I write this I'm still conflicted. Haha! It was a gloomy, misty day in SB so there wasn't much natural light making the dining room very dim. It was very calming The service is very good and they are well staffed. I'm todays environment, it is an anomaly but must speak to the management style. Cody's Cafe has a nice sit down experience with a handful of enticing food options. Some of their menu items seem as if they're trying to fill in the spaces, simply put the quality is not consistent. The pancakes are delicious while the eggs, bacon, and toast are quite average. One thing I love is the outdoor patio area as it always seals the deal for a cafe styled get together with the pals. The staff is friendly and courteous, but also selective. I've noticed most of the staff members preferring more of a family oriented clientele while dreading college aged individuals, although they make the effort to treat everyone with a smile. If you're not looking for anything spectacular l'd say this is the spot to be, my friends and I were regulars here for about a year while we were all renting a house together very close by. It was a great place to spend our mornings after a night out at the bars in downtown. I'll always cherish the memories I made at Cody's Cafe, it has a special place in my heart. read more

Just heading out of Cody's and quite disappointed. Checking out other's reviews, it's apparent my experience may not be so isolated, however different. Service and food is usually good. But when we are faced with an issue is when it's counts. So today I walked in quite hungry and looking forward to chicken fried steak. I was a bit distracted while on the phone with my daughter as I chowed down my meal. Something was off. I finally concluded that the meat had a hint of being spoiled. Although just a hint, there is absolutely no excuse for that! I pointed it to the server who offered me something else. At this point I was full on the hash browns and declined her offer. She then offered a DISCOUNT to the tab. And said she would inform the manager about the slightly rancid meat. After a few minutes of pondering over this dilemma I requested to see the manager. The manger thanked me for pointing this out to her. I was presented with the tab. I don't know if it's just me, but if I ran this restaurant I would have thanked the customer and not had them pay for anything. This is a serious allegation. I hope I don't get a belly ache! But shame on you Cody's for thinking about your financial gain before customer service. Zero stars for today but because of past pleasant experiences you get two overall!! read more
