A nice local place for breakfast and lunch! Nothing fancy, but reasonably priced and good food.

A+: this was our first time to Cody's cafe and it was the best experience. The outdoor dining is pleasant and festive. All the editors were so cheery and spirited, making the experience all the much more wonderful. It was evident that the family owned love and joy was contagious here. We were all immensely pleased with our meals, as well. The club sandwich hit the spot and they cook their fries perfectly crispy. The protein scramble was delicious for my mother and she ordered a blue berry muffin on the side which she devoured!!! My fiancé LOVED the fish and chips and he is quite the expert on good quality fish and chips. They were fried to crispy golden perfection and the fish inside was buttery, flaked right off and melted in his mouth. I can't wait to come back here and try all the delicious waffles/French toast and other breakfast items that caught my eye at other tables. read more

We come here for breakfast every time we are in town. The second you walk in the door the staff is so friendly and attentive. They truly make you feel like family!!! Had lunch at Cody's today - first time in almost 2 years. A lot has changed, including a large patio expansion and more space inside. One had the Chile Verde omelet and liked it very much. Another fish & chips, happy with that. Not sure what fish was used - but better than the swai some use now, as opposed to traditional cod. Third had a Reuben, fine except it seemed dry, sauce was lacking - thousand island or Russian (which you don't find often). I had the open-faced steak sandwich with rib-eye (you can also get tri-tip). Steak was very tasty, covered with a butter sauce. It wasn't 'prime,' maybe a little gristly, but that taste was great. Our server, Danny, was very good and attentive. Parking is ample, and prices are quite reasonable, though a little higher than the web menu - like everywhere else. read more

Normally, I come here and enjoy breakfast very much. Today I came for an afternoon snack and found out they don't serve dessert. OK I could've checked that first. And I was surprised to find they close at 3 PM which also I could've checked first since I arrived about 2:45. I chose French toast which was listed as having bananas and seasonal fruit or berries, and it just had bananas with about a cup of sliced almonds on top, which really added nothing to the dish. However, it was close to the dessert I wanted so I stuck with it. However the café was being tidied up for closing and they started to mop the entryway near where I was sitting with really strong disinfectant, which completely overwhelmed the taste of the food. I tried to ignore this, but after a couple bites, it was unbearable. Honestly, Cody's, it's time to quit using Fabuloso in your dining room. read more

My friends and I eat there several times a year. The outdoor seating has been a great addition. The food is not fancy, but consistent . Staff is fine. The last times few times , we needed flatware to be added to our table. The part of the utensils that you put in your mouth are being held right in front of us as it's being set down. We just wipe down the utensils as much as possible with our napkins. Yes, I am afraid of the Norovirus and know too many people who have had it since this summer. Also, touching the top of the glasses is something I always asked my staff not to do when I was in the catering business. This seems to be a constant regardless of the level of dining. Cody's is a solid place for breakfast! Out of the past two times I've been this week, the food has been consistent. Veggie Scramble: Very healthy! I was craving something on the healthier side and decided to give this a try. The scramble came with egg whites and a mix of seasonal veggies- zucchini, carrots, and bell pepper. Since it was healthy, it tasted "healthy" so it was quite bland. Good thing it came with salsa so I drenched it with that, which made it taste better. I like how fruit salad is an option for a side. It included an assortment of diced fruit- watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, and strawberry. The fruits were a refreshing ending to my meal. Corn beef hash & eggs: I know it's the opposite of the veggie scramble, but I was craving unhealthy foods that day. The corn beef hash has chunks of potato mashed into it. The corn beef was oily, which I already expected, and the two eggs were cooked perfectly over-medium. I tasted alright, but I thought it was a bit too salty to me. It came with two slices of bread, but someone in the kitchen didn't know how to toast bread (surprisingly) and it came out burnt. Burnt toast... great (not). Blueberry muffin: Warm and fresh out of the oven! Don't settle for plain boring buttered-toast (or burnt toast), and order a blueberry muffin instead! These muffins are to-die-for and I would come back here just for the muffins. Overall, I would recommend Cody's for breakfast. Only downside was that the service was slightly lacking. I tried flagging down several servers but they were either forgetful or not attentive. I had to ask the waiter for extra napkins a couple times before she brought a stack out.I enjoyed the large menu and the healthy dish options including the fruit salad. I've eaten here twice, both times to use the Santa Barbara Axxess card. Once was for dinner and today for lunch. The food is great and the atmosphere is sweet. Feels home-y and diner-esque. The staff are nice, but it did take quite a while for a server to help us today. I'm thinking Sunday's are really busy for them, as they were packed today. Come here regularly, came on 4th of July and understandable things can get busy. Which is fine. But for our server to completely ignore our table constantly without even checking in to see if we needed anything is ridiculous. What gets me aggravated is he had his buddies having brunch, and with that gave them all the attention in the world, going over there constantly , with our table literally right next to it. But did not bother once to check in. No refill on waters nothing. We had to literally flag him down just to get our check. The icing on the cake is his buddies ordered shots and of course he's going to part take in that. But yup we still have to pay the tip included in the check for the wonderful service. One of my favorite brunch places in Santa Barbara :) the service is outstanding, the food is great and it's a local business. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is soo good and fresh. Great homestyle diner! I got biscuits and poached eggs and coffee. Everything was great except the side of fruit - should have chosen potatoes instead. The waitstaff was extremely kind and considerate. My coffee was never empty, and everything came out timely and hot. I will definitely be back to try out some more menu items! I have been going to Cody's for years, mostly to eat breakfast. This morning a got burnt black toast and a BLT with two small strips of bacon. They should rename this $15 sandwich, a letter and tomato sandwich with bits of bacon. The coffee was bitter and nobody ever gave us a refill. I notice that the prices have gone up like other restaurants too but the food portions have been smaller. I believe many people will soon catch on and stop going out to eat because of smaller food portions, higher quality and poor service. Hopefully, Cody looks into these problems before they have to close their doors. read more

As I have lived in the area, I been trying to try different places for breakfast. I saw Cody's and didn't think much of it and boy was I wrong. When you walk in you sort of see tacky decor but don't let that discourage you, the food has been amazing so far. I have only tried breakfast items so far but let me tell you that so far it's been the best i had in Goleta so far. I have gotten the country fried steak and eggs so far and it has been made perfectly both times I have ordered it. The batter is crisp and the gravy on top is just heavenly. You don't even need to use a knife to cut it as it is perfectly tender and breaks apart with just a fork. I also had a side of biscuit and gravy the first time. The biscuit was soft and crispy at the same time and the gravy was on point. Also you can get a blueberry muffin with the meal which I highly recommend. read more

Cody's was recommended to me by a friend and I am so happy she recommended it to me. First of all the service is great. When you walk in every server you pass says Good morning to you. They are so kind and will help with whatever you need. Next the food! The food is so yummy! I love a good Biscuits and Gravy. However I am pretty picky about the gravy but Cody's has passed the test! I ate every last bite of my meal. My boyfriend got the Country fried steak and he loved his meal also. Our only complaint would be that the potatoes could have been fried a little longer. However, that is just our preference (next time we will be sure to ask for extra crispy potatoes). And if we are being honest we will probably be back this weekend! All in all we enjoyed our experience and I think I have just found my new weekend breakfast spot! read more

First time visitor at Cody's. We arrived a little past noon & were seated immediately. I ordered the rib eye steak. Even though the place closes at 3p, I was told they had already run out. I Ended up with the club sandwich - which was decent, as were the french fries. The greens for the accompanying salad were some of the saddest I've ever seen - all of them were either wilting or had brown edges. Didn't eat any of that. The dressing served for the salad was used instead for the fries, since No ketchup was offered, but even that was watery. The portions were huge (plus a choice of side and toast). The Omelette was good and cooked to request "Soft", my Eggs Rancheros was descent, though I did not like the salsa sauce, too chunky no taste no pop. Had breakfast at Cody's this week with a friend. They're still reliably tasty, with good value and good service. There's always plenty of great seating indoors and out. Staff work as a team so you're never going to wait long before someone checks on you for coffee, to-go boxes, etc. I had the pasilla scramble which was sort of plain with eggs, roasted pasilla pieces, and jack cheese. I came for brunch at 11am. I was sat outside immediately. I got my coffee right as I sat down. 15 min passed and no no server. 30 min passed and no server. I went inside to let the host know that we had been outside from 11-11:30 and no server ever went to our table. She gave us attitude, I asked to pay for my coffee to leave and she gave more attitude. This is our go to place when visiting friends in SB. Always consistent and good. The portions are large also. This time we ordered, respectively, the breakfast enchilada, scramble, fresh fruit waffle and loaded omelette. Yum! I usually order one of the Benedicts, they are absolutely delish, specially the crab! Craved a waffle this visit, it was perfect and the fresh strawberries, wow! The waitstaff is attentive and quick. Stopped by on Sunday for a fun brunch with the gays and the girlies, the wait time wasn't too bad for 11 am at only 15 minutes. I personally ordered the Italian Sausage Omelet w/ Cottage Fries and the Blueberry Muffin . The Omelet left much to be desired, the egg in the omelet itself was flat and far too greasy and all of the yummy mushrooms/sausage/onions in the omelet itself just fell right out. The Cottage Fries however were simply divine, my only complaint was that I wanted more! HOWEVER. The real star of the show was the Blueberry Muffin!!! This place is probably a 3.5 stars in my book if I could rate it that. This diner gives some massive portions but I do think they are comparable to most diners that are served in Santa Barbara, the prices are a little high too but you could easily make two meals out of most of the dishes that they serve. They have interesting decor that makes me feel like the owners used to eat at diners in the midwest but moved to California to make their own diner so they added surfboards on the walls. The food here is solid, they definitely know how to make breakfast and they got some interesting choices for dinner(looking at you Liver and Onions). The service is the one thing that I would like them to improve upon. It took about 12 minutes before we could order our dish, and we had to catch our waiter to get the check. The restaurant wasn't packed and most people already had out dishes so I was hoping we could get our drinks orders at the 5 minute mark and our entrees at the 7 minute. I've been there a few other times and the first time the server comes along usually takes the longest so be careful if you have a one hour lunch break like me and don't want to get back to work late. read more
