Having recently been to New Orleans I was excited to see the cuisine represented on the west coast and they do a great job. I had the breakfast sandwich which was delish! Home style potatoes were the highlight. My dad had the French Quarter omelet which had a generous portion of all the ingredients and substituted grits for the bread because he's a southern boy! I was not impressed by the location or atmosphere. It was dark, cold, and kind of desolate inside. The cleanliness was that of a classic roadside restaurant, so not "clean" but definitely sanitized: our table was still wet from the wipe down. Definitely don't come for the atmosphere. We had a different waiter for drink ordering, meal ordering, check in, and payment... so no consistency there. The service is great, the food is tasty, the pricing is fair, plus they have FREE birthday beignets! No matter the day, there will probably always be a line to wait, but it is well worth it! This was recommended for us to try so we popped on in! We started off with some dunes coffee and beignets with powdered sugar, they didn't disappoint. We tried some of the "local favorites" like jambalaya with egg, chilaquiles, biscuits and gravy and huevos rancheros. Portions are pretty big, food was pretty good. Probably wouldn't order the biscuits and gravy again, unless you like basic things, but even then could of used more gravy. Only complaint (and minus a star for ) was Carlos' service and his lack of personality. Seemed like we were an inconvenience to be there. Towards the end he somewhat came around. There is not much more I can say about how great this place is that has not already been said, but suffice it to say that I can hardly wait to get back to Santa Barbara to eat here again. We were looking for a "breakfast place" in the area, and my wife found this on Yelp, and it was much better than either of us could have imagined. The menu is extensive and so many dishes look great, that it was difficult to decide what to try. We ended up sharing the Shrimp & Andouille Grits and the Tri-Tip Benedict after starting with the Beignets. Everything was so delicious. I've never had such great beignets. The dough was not too sweet which was a great contrast to the sweet caramelized bananas, strawberries, whipped cream and caramel, so it was a great combination. The Tri-Tip Benedict did not disappoint and was perfectly cooked with the grilled onions really helping the dish. The Shrimp and Andouille Grits were also surprisingly good. I personally do not normally like grits at most places since it tastes rather plain to me, but in this case the grits were a perfect contrast to the very rich seasoning of the shrimp and andouille sausage. Either the protein or the grits by themselves would not have made a great dish, but I found the combination eaten together in one bite was in perfect balance and together it is a dish I would definitely go back for. I just wish this place was close to home so I could go every weekend, but I guess I will have to wait until next time I'm in the Santa Barbara area, but it is definitely a breakfast place you don't want to miss. read more

Service was great. Surprisingly, two of us were able to get seated at a patio table right away on a Sunday morning at 10:30 am, perfect brunch-y time. There might have been a wait time for larger parties, however, because there were people waiting around outside. I mainly came here for the beignets ($4.25) and I wasn't disappointed on that front. They had several options of Smucker's (orange marmalade, concord grape jelly, seedless boysenberry preserves, and strawberry jam), along with a few hot sauces. I tried some boysenberry with my beignets, which were delicious. (Note: Smucker's second ingredient listed is high fructose corn syrup, so I avoid generally avoid those except when treating myself.) My friend tried the Belgian waffle ($9.50) and made it a combo (+$2) which had two links of sausage and one egg any style. She ordered the egg over easy and the egg came out perfectly and was even satisfyingly round. The sausages were a bit tiny even for breakfast sausages, but still good. However, if my friend hadn't ordered the combo, she was literally getting a whole plain round waffle for $9.50. That is definitely not worth it at all. It came with syrup and some butter, but really-- $9.50 for a plain waffle. Strangely very expensive price point when everything else on the menu seemed like typical mildly expensive brunch pricing. For the second time being here, I would say my experience was alright or average. They have a big menu, like most brunch places in CA. I love the Cajun aspect to their menu and their uniqueness. I didn't get a picture of it but we did get two orders of their beignets. One with just the powdered sugar and the other with everything (whip cream, strawberries, and caramalized bananas, and powdered sugar). They were super good! The Jambalaya was spicy, but as a spice lover, I wouldn't say it was super spicy. It definitely had a kick. We did have another in the group who also likes spicy, but it was a little too spicy for them. They ordered the Jambalaya with eggs. No complaints about the taste or quality of the food. We were there on Memorial Day weekend. The wait wasn't too bad for a party of 5. About 20 mins or so. We were seated in an area with ample room. We got some drinks including a round of waters for the table. However, we didn't get the drinks until after we ordered our food. And when we did receive our drinks, we were short two waters and we requested it. When the food came around, we noticed that we were also short two sets of utensils and the amount of cream we were given for coffee was also not enough for three people. I wish I took a picture of the container, it was very tiny and only filled up 25%. So not much to begin with. And when we requested more creamer for the coffee. We asked three different people and it didn't come until they gave us the check. Water and coffee refills were almost non existent! I understand when places are busy, however, they were pretty well staffed. At some point the person who was hostess, was just standing by the water pitchers and what not and doing nothing. There were multiple servers and multiple people bussing tables and serving water and coffee refills. We sat in the smack middle of the restaurant near the entrance, so it's almost like we were missed or avoided. However, despite the lack of service, I have been to worse. I would definitely come back just for the food and give them another chance for their service, if I was in the area. read more

I visit Santa Barbara a couple of times a year and always make an effort to eat at Cajun Kitchen. They have a handful of locations now but this one is my go-to. They have so many great dishes here, but I almost always go for the crab cake benedict. The crab cakes are delicious with a nice peppery kick, and they don't douse it in too much hollandaise. I prefer the home fries over the hash browns, personally. They also have bomb sausage of various kinds, scrambles, and an amazing Jambalaya. Their sides like the sourdough toast, muffins, and cornbread are also great. I hadn't had pancakes here in years and Pancake Day had just passed, so my brother and I split a stack of chocolate chip pancakes on the side. So good. We ate more than I thought we'd have room for. We had such a good time on the Saturday when we visited that we came right back the next day. I had the benedict again because I am far too lazy to make one at home and have only dined out a handful of times this past year. Well worth it! We also got the beignets - which I've seen for years and never tried. They're super light and fluffy with a delicious crust and the caramelized fruit topping is outrageously good. At the moment they're open with outdoor dining and takeout only. It wasn't too busy at about 10am on each weekend morning when we went as a group of 3. They've expanded the outdoor seating around the front of the building, which was a little blustery when it was windy out, but perfectly comfortable. Best damn chorizo I've ever had. Spicy in all the best ways, heat yes but most importantly the spices of flavor were bursting out. The server explained to me the chef who makes it is from Jalisco and it the deliciousness confirms it. They have homemade cold brew coffee too which is light vs bold but doesn't need creamer at all (in my opinion). The service is very good, not rushed at all. I say outside on the patio and loved it but luckily I was wearing a hoodie because it was a bit chilly in the air. This place must be well known on a nearby college campus because loads of college kids were dining in groups of 4 or even 7 at a table. Everyone was having a great time and even though I was sitting alone the great energy surrounding me elevated my experience. I highly endorse this place. One of my favorite combos is chicken and waffles and this dish definitely delivers! The chicken is crisp yet tender, and the savoriness pairs really well with the sweetness of the fruit and waffles in my opinion. I think the presentation could be easily improved by serving the chicken on top of the waffle though. Additionally, the chicken was a bit difficult to eat and I think a piece of thigh or breast would've worked better here as it would not be finger food. read more

We were in Goleta and looking for a breakfast spot for takeout. This restaurant is pretty well rated and we think we may have just ordered the wrong things (or they just weren't as good as takeout). We tried their Fried Chicken and Waffles and Beignets. Fried Chicken & Waffles - The waffles were terrible. I'm not sure what went wrong but the waffle seemed to be undercooked. The waffle crumbled into pieces when we tried eating it with a fork or cutting it with a knife. The batter just didn't seem to hold. The chicken was decent but wish the seasoning was more special. Beignets - I typically love beignets but their dough was very dense. Overall it was okay. In terms of the ordering process, it was fairly simple. We ordered ahead and it was ready after we arrived. I was on hold for a little while since they were taking orders for people on-site (from the conversations I heard through the phone) but luckily didn't wait more than 5 minutes. read more

During that time some of our party grabbed some things are Target. When we were finally seated our server quickly came to our table and we placed our orders. I ordered my usual that I get at most brunch spots: egg white omelette with spinach, feta cheese, mushrooms & tomatoes with home fries and I replaced the toast with fruit. The omelette was good, not greasy and the home fries were bomb fries! My husband got fried chicken eggs Benedict and he LOVED it. He could stop talking about how perfect the chicken was. Our son got the chicken fried steak and he also loved his meal. He also got OJ and our server said it was fresh squeezed but we saw them pouring from a jug ‍ still tasted good. Overall we will definitely come back when visiting our son at UCSB. This place is good and the workers hustle to make your experience worth while. It's become our go to brunch place-they have large portions, lower-than-average prices compared to some other nearby brunch places, and everything we ordered has been fantastic. Beignets were more like dense bread sticks that were stale and no flavor not crispy. My chicken fried steak was not home made and covered in a tasteless gelatinous white "gravy". Terrible. My son ordered the "bacon and eggs plate" and he gave me a "it's gross look". How can you screw that up? Considering it was over $115 I would rate Cajun kitchen as extremely poor value for money. I was super disappointed. The bacon was good but the biscuit was a little dense and the eggs and potatoes were a tad undercooked. My friend ordered eggs Benedict and cornbread and said it was pretty standard too. The best part of the breakfast was the beignets. I would highly recommend getting these. They came out warm and fresh and were perfectly cooked and delicious.
