Yummy and balanced all-day breakfast.
Jonathan D.

I was craving a breakfast with eggs in it, which in Hong Kong is harder to find than one might think. Yelp is generally less used than TripAdvisor over here, but in this case, Yelp came through. Cafe Sausalito is the sort of place that would be one of my go-to spots if it were in LA. It's cozy, hidden away in the garment district, with a comfortable vibe and a super friendly staff. There's free wi-fi, and most importantly, the food was excellent. I got the all-day breakfast, which included eggs (perfectly cooked and elevated by the presence of mushrooms), smoked salmon, sausage, toast and a side salad. I was on vacation, so I wasn't really looking to do work here, but I could easily see myself ordering food and hanging out here on a regular basis to write or work on my laptop if I were a local. The food menu isn't huge, but everything on it sounded appetizing (i.e. "small but mighty"), particularly given the quality of my first dish--definitely above the level of most cafes. Cafe Sausalito is definitely a winner.

Yet, when we arrived with 12 directors and professionals on a quiet Monday night, the restaurant was almost empty, and the manager immediately told us off for not booking. He talked down to me, avoided eye contact, and made us feel entirely insignificant. We tried to have a calm conversation and mentioned we were spending money on a two-hour social gathering, but he restricted us to sit in the corner and strictly ordered us not to mingle with his patrons. He flatly stated he didn't care about our money, only his 'regulars.' To make matters worse, they forgot one of our food orders, and some of the food we did receive was subpar. It's a shame because the floor staff were sweet and kind, but hospitality starts from the top. I have never felt more unwelcome and treated with such hostility at an establishment. Avoid this place! Wasn't in the mood to take a picture I'm afraid.

Con: It's a bit further away from the actual Causeway Bay, and further uphill. Pro: They have an amazing list of beers to choose from (well, amazing in terms of CWB's standard, not Soho's). Con: You have to be very patient to get a server, due to its prolonged corridor. It's a flaw by design. Pro: Unlimited peanuts and you can toss them on the floor. Hell YES. Con: It isn't really an "Inside out" anymore as most of the areas are indoors or covered. More cons: "membership" only (although it's like $20 a month, or you can tell the server that the friend of yours who is a member "is coming"). It closes relatively early to other bars, and also it lacks of other entertainment (darts, pools, etc.). But surely you can go to their professional pool room if you are keen. But as a sport bar, I still enjoy every bit of it, if not more than its original location, which was somehow always full.

I also ordered the hot wings, the waiter was very nice, as he warned us the sauce can be quite spicy for some, and asked if I want to have them on side instead. I was like: bring it on. The wings looked slightly skinnier than before, but taste wise, it is still there. Celery on the side looked a bit .. yellow though, but still crunchy!

Come here for the drinks or for their attempt at Latin / Mexican bar food and bring some good company to boot. This is one of those places where a good time depends on who's drinking and who's not. The place has plenty of seating on the inside and quite a section for outdoor action. Folks can smoke and drink as they please outside with no problems. On the inside they have TVs galore, usually broadcasting Mexican soccer / futbol games. The staff is not pretentious and they have provided good service each time I'm here. Don't be nervous about trying to say the words on the menu, chances are the nearly app Nepalese staff might have trouble saying it too. Let's one thing straight: the "Mexican" food here is close to an abomination. Anyone coming here to get their fix of sopa tortilla or the next great mole poblano will be sorry they did. The bar is stacked with versions of bar friendly Mex, which includes nachos, quesadillas, and tacos. Most of the aforementioned is incredibly mediocre, but being that HK is not blessed with quality Mexican fare, the food at Tequila Jack's is hardly a surprise. Do however, indulge on their themed nights. On Saturday nights for example, is steak night for $108 each. It is a 10oz steak with some fixins like fries, veggies, and corn on the cob. I'm usually not terribly crazy about cheap steak but theirs is a slight exception. My steak has been cooked perfectly each time and the marbling / fat actually melts in your mouth. I have been here since the prices were $90 and the steak has been one of the only highlights food wise. On the drink front, they have a legit array of Mexican beers along with a stellar selection of tequila. It's probably the most abundant collection of tequila I've seen in the hood. The prices per shot aren't cheap ($140?) but if money doesn't matter as much the drunks are in their own league at TJ's. Lastly, if you're sitting outside at night: Watch out for our furry friends running around. They have caused quite a stir in the past. And *do not* feed them.

The concept is this: bottomless salad bar and bottomless meats... you eat til your hearts content. The friends I came here with are from Brazil so they said this is how it's done in Brazil. Ok so you'd think: "ok, so it's a buffet type style? So that means up the price and lower the quality?!" But actually, the meats are very good quality - juicy, tasty, and various cuts! It's not cheap price wise but it is worth it. I also had an acai shake : very light and natural tasting . Thumbs up Brazzzza!

In general, the buffet was decent (but of course don't fill up on it), and the steak was overall good, but the pichanha only came around 2 times and one time great and one time so-so (not cooked correctly, a bit overdone). They were pushing the chicken and pork out of the kitchen more frequently than the steaks, and some of the beef cuts advertised on the menu were not available. They offer a free flow wine which is worth it although the quality is only so so. It is extra to add caipirinha which is too bad since it is authentically Brazilian but not worth the extra cost. You need to reserve ahead as it is busy, usually some larger parties.

The ambience was like a retro diner, with unique CD art on the walls, diner-like stools, and photos of guests enjoying their meal at Burger Joy. I wasn't feeling a burger, so I ordered some truffle fries and wings. I was so impressed at the amount of truffle they sprinkle on the fries and the flavor of the wings. SO hot and fresh which made the meal so delicious. I went with Cajun seasoning and the exterior was lightly crispy and coated with the powder. Fantastic flavor! As a Westerner, I could rely on Burger Joy for that classic American style dining. They have late hours and close at 2:30AM! It was and still is such a hard thing to find in HK, which seems strange given the popularity of burgers and the huge expat population. Now that several big time fast food chains (#1) have opened up, Burger Joys and their pricey burgers may seem somewhat pedestrian. Burger Joys is still fairly unconventional from most of the other burger spots, which includes serving full on booze (even cocktails!) and remaining open for 24 hours a day. The latter is mainly for location's sake, Wanchai and it's red light district vibe tends to spurn a lot of expat visits; many of whom are less likely to look for a HK Cafe over the idea of a burger and fries. The burgers themselves evoke memories of In N Out by presentation alone, sans taste and price. That said, the burgers are good. I'm not sure if the signature double cheeseburger warrants the $139HKD price tag, but it's still tasty. Throw in a shake and some fries (better with truffle!), the meal gets closer to 200HKD+ with the service charge. Thank goodness they accept credit cards. The service has been a mix of great and subpar. Some days when the gentleman from Vancouver is working, the service is professional, fun, and efficient. Some other days / hours, it's a crapshoot of casual and lackluster staff. The mileage definitely varies. I suppose the adage applies: come for the food and nothing else. Having immersed ourselves in local cuisine for over a week, we thought it would be nice to have a change and testing the consistency of their food overseas. First thing we noticed - no line ups. The locations we been to in the USA often have long waits, but not here. The interior follows the same decor and style as you would see in the USA, so no differences there. The menu is similarly expansive, with a lot of the same familiar menu items we're familiar. Small difference - entrees come with a "free" soup here, like going to a cha chaan teng. We ended up getting two things: - Mandarin Chicken Salad: Good. In the USA, it's referred to as a Chinese Chicken Salad, but it's the same thing. Maybe a bit smaller portion size in HK. - Crusted Chicken Romano: Good. Just as I would imagine it to taste in the USA. - Soup: OK. I don't quite remember what the accompanying soup was, but it was fine. Not memorable. - Complimentary Bread: Good. They use the same recipes so the bread, especially the brown loaf are always a treat to eat. Service was good. Overall, it was a good meal. Although not identical, it's very close to the original in terms of look, service and food quality, although relatively more expensive.

I'm really baffled as to why this place has such a low rating…read more First of all, this is the only Cheesecake factory in Hong Kong, possibly in the region (there is one in Macau, but that's not part of the metro area). As such, there are really a lot of people who want to come here - during regular business hours this place is incredibly packed, and it'll typically be at least a 30 minute wait to get seats. The food here actually compares really well to the stuff you get at Cheesecake factory in America; anyone saying otherwise probably hasn't been around America enough. Cheesecake factory in America isn't like a mcdonalds or taco bell, where there really isn't any cooking going on. In places like these, all the food comes from a single source, and all they're doing is tossing it in the deep fryer (even then this is a slight simplification). At cheesecake factory in the USA, there is real cooking going on, and there can be a real difference from store to store in the quality of the food. The food in this Hong Kong location compares very well to some of the better ones I've been to in America. The menu, same as other locations, is huge, and a great testament to how they can pull off so many dishes in one restaurant. Some of my favorites are the pastas, the breakfast, and the tacos. The wait staff is all pretty good here, and it does give you a slight american feel in that everyone here speaks english. I actually have not been here yet and seen a cantonese waiter or waitress. The only real con of this place are the cakes. The cakes are actually shipped frozen all the way from America. I think this is a bit much. Yes, the cakes here are pretty good, but they could probably make something from scratch that is comparable. It doesn't make sense to me that all the food can be cooked on site, but the cake is impossible to replicate.

Wow! Super surprised there is a yelp entry for this restaurant!…read more This place I feel is not in the most ideal area. Personally, I don't like coming to LKF to have dinner or lunch or whatever. Still, I can't fault them too much for the location, and many people have actually done the same since there are a number of good restaurants in LKF area. This place is primarily a steak place, though they have a few other things to choose from as well. I believe lunch times they offer a AYCE sort of option, where you get a main and then the salad bar is buffet. I've been to it before and it's pretty good. I've heard however since COVID they have changed it somewhat. The other night I came and got the seafood guazzetto, which is about $300 HKD, and has a bunch of different things such as fish, octopus, clams, etc. Lots of seafood essentially. Other things I tried included the sides of brussel sprouts, mushrooms, bruschetta, some of my brother's sirloin steak, some of the fish of the day (halibut?). Overall, the food is quite nice. I will say, they tend to use a bit too much butter/oil here. I know this is kind of true whenever you eat out, but here it is definitely noticeable. I would recommend them to tone it down just a little bit, since there are always ways to spice up your dish without going overboard on the fats

They also brought out some veggies and dip before we ordered (which I had never seen done before) along with bread. The highlight of the night was the steaks of course. We shared the florentina (aka the porterhouse. A 32oz wagyu beast) and a filet. The meats came on a cutting board already cut, so the sharing was easy. They were perfectly seasoned, tender, and flavorful. We had roasted veggies and creamed spinach as sides. The latter was addictive! Chef Todd was around to explain their meat selection when I walked around to check them out in the case. We didn't get to send our regards to him, as we stayed late and were the last to leave. Todd, if you're reading this, hail to the chef! We went without a reservation and were seated right away. It was a Thursday night, but we had gotten there around 9 which might explain the vacancy. It's a great option for groups and celebratory dinners :)
