This was the perfect late night eatery I can happily say satisfied my cravings for American food in HK. The owner was so inviting and attended to us even though the vibe was casual. The ambience was like a retro diner, with unique CD art on the walls, diner-like stools, and photos of guests enjoying their meal at Burger Joy. I wasn't feeling a burger, so I ordered some truffle fries and wings. I was so impressed at the amount of truffle they sprinkle on the fries and the flavor of the wings. SO hot and fresh which made the meal so delicious. I went with Cajun seasoning and the exterior was lightly crispy and coated with the powder. Fantastic flavor! As a Westerner, I could rely on Burger Joy for that classic American style dining. They have late hours and close at 2:30AM! Now that several big time fast food chains (#1) have opened up, Burger Joys and their pricey burgers may seem somewhat pedestrian. Burger Joys is still fairly unconventional from most of the other burger spots, which includes serving full on booze (even cocktails!) and remaining open for 24 hours a day. The latter is mainly for location's sake, Wanchai and it's red light district vibe tends to spurn a lot of expat visits; many of whom are less likely to look for a HK Cafe over the idea of a burger and fries. The burgers themselves evoke memories of In N Out by presentation alone, sans taste and price. That said, the burgers are good. I'm not sure if the signature double cheeseburger warrants the $139HKD price tag, but it's still tasty. Throw in a shake and some fries (better with truffle!), the meal gets closer to 200HKD+ with the service charge. Thank goodness they accept credit cards. The service has been a mix of great and subpar. Some days when the gentleman from Vancouver is working, the service is professional, fun, and efficient. The burger was decent and tater tots were mediocre. I had the double cheese burger with bacon. The burger was the greasy, fatty, thinner style of patty as opposed thicker, leaner versions. I do enjoy the thinner kind, of done right, but this one was not very good quality. It also fell apart the entire time I ate it, bun and burger included. Extremely tasty! Very similar to Smashburger from the States. I had the double with fries. Fries were good but my wife had the Cajun style which were much better. If you are in HK and need a really good griddled burger, this should do the trick. Knocking one star due to how expensive it is. Our two double burgers, two fries, a water and a coke totaled $286. I had The Cheeseburger for 108HKD. To be frank, it's a little more on the expensive side, but it is delicious. People have said it is as close as it can get to the In-N-Out burger from the US. As a person who grew up with In-N-Out, I'd say they're right. Several things that are different from In-N-Out: Sauce, Bun, Price, Onions, Fries Sauce - something is missing, but it's as close to the In-N-Out sauce compared to anywhere in Hong Kong. Bun - granted, this place has delicious buns. I would even dare to say it's better than In-N=Out. Price - this is a no brainer. Western foods are super expensive in Hong Kong. The single burger I had was 108HKD... That is 13.81USD. about 5, almost 6 times as much as the single in In-N-Out burger (2.40USD). Onions, why? In-N-Out offers grilled onions. It makes a difference. Lastly, Fries. The Fries here are crunchy. But no sauce and cheese. Ha! If you want the sauce, ask for sauce on the side when you order a Burger. Then you'd be able to pour the sauce onto the burger yourself, along with dipping the fries into the sauce. Double whammy! In the end, I would recommend this place for a delicious burger. The Hong Kong burger movement is now firmly in its full throes, and I for one couldn't be happier. As a Westerner with a penchant for high-quality cheeseburgers, you can't fault me for canvassing HK for one of these meaty delights when the time is right. When is it the right time, exactly? After you've had a long night imbibing, or you've gone a month sans red meat. Or, when you hear the silent-but-strong siren call of a good ol' American cheeseburger. The right time was number #3 of the aforementioned for me, when I took Kathleen S' review to-heart in search of HK's next greatest cheeseburger. Burger Joys looked especially inviting on an early evening with its signs luring customers in with happy hour specials on adult beverages. You don't have to tell me twice! I sat down and ordered the signature double cheeseburger and a half-off Big Wave Golden Ale (crafted by Hawaii's Kona Brewing Co). Next came burger nirvana! Many things came to mind as I initially took a bite of this burger - namely, it's massive and I should have ordered the single - but at the forefront was that it tastes similar to In-N-Out's iconic animal-style offering. Juicy, well-seasoned beed, with ripe and colorful lettuce and onions, perfectly-melted cheese, just enough of their Thousand Island-based sauce, all expertly wrapped for minimum messiness and held together by a super soft bun. This place rocks! I've been coming here since it first opened up over two years ago. I would say it as as about as close to an In-n-Out Burger as you can find on this side of the Pacific. There is a slight probably with the bun/bread (namely that it is too soft) but they are working on it. The burgers are fresh, and I mean REALLY FRESH! I've watched them in the morning as they ground the steak up for the day's patties. Nothing but the best. And the flavor...!!! I live in Shanghai, where most people's idea of a good Burger lies at the end of two extremes, with Burger King & MacDonald's on one end and overly deluxe high-end hotel burgers on the other. But the hamburgers and Burger Joys are phenomenal. But don't take my word for it. If you're in the Wanchai district of Hong Kong, be sure to pay a visit. You won't be disappointed. This is an amazingly flavorful juicy/greasy patty style burger. Really freaking good. Although the fresh veggies slices and special sauce we good additions, this is the type of patty that can be eaten with just cheese and the bun. It's not the thin patty style like Caliburger or Burger Circus, or meant to be a big thick burger like Blue Butcher, Butcher Club, Beef and Liberty, etc, but somewhere in between. Although my friend questioned the bun's ability to hold the Signature Double Cheeseburger (which was spilling a mixture of melted cheese, juicy from the patty and special sauce into the wrapper) because it was so light and soft, it withheld the challenge even after the half wrapped, in which the burger was presented, was removed for the 2nd half. I rarely order double burgers, but the pictures looked too good not to this time. Sometimes when patties are of the thinner nature, you need to order the double just to get enough meat to really taste it against the veggies and bun. This was not the case here though, I feel quite confident that a single burger would still allow full potential burger taste due to the juiciness that would escape into the fluffy bun and begin to usurp the fresh veggies. Only issue I can think of is that the tables are too small for two people's meals and drinks. But that's it and I can live with that for now :) read more

With wide-open doors facing Lockhart Road at the corner of Fenwick, you'll get plenty of good people watching, too. I got *SIGNATURE DOUBLE BURGER* basically how it shows up on their menu and on the board there with bacon and cheese and combo'd it with fries and a drink. Wife got the veggie burger combo. So, my burger was decent, it wasn't mindblowingly good but it was solid and if it was later and I was drinking it would fill the need for greasy food. What was surprising though was how good the veggie burger was, it didn't just taste good for a veggie burger, it was good for a burger. Well deserved hype. Burger Joy's serves quality burgers with alcohol and great service. The Signature Double Cheeseburger is the closest thing I've had to a double double animal style outside of California. Finally. Hong Kong is now capable of meeting my late-night drunken food cravings. One of my favorite things about going out in Los Angeles was getting a little bit of a buzz on and then stopping by In-N-Out burger to inhale animal-style everything. The joy and fatness that I relished in during those late-night food runs in Hollywood left my heart (and my stomach) feeling empty when I moved to Hong Kong. I missed In-N-Out so hard. Until now. I was having a late night of drinking in Central with a friend of mine, and because we stupidly had little/no food to eat for dinner, we were starving by the end of the night. She told me about this 24-hour burger place that opened a couple of weeks ago and said it was in Wan Chai. I was like "mehhhh Wan Chai? surely we can find something open at 3:30 a.m. in Central." But nope. Nothing open, unless you're in the mood for a greasy kebab (I wasn't). So off we went into a taxi over to Wan Chai to check out Burger Joys. The vibe is great -- nice hip hop soundtrack playing in the background and red-tinted lighting inside (to go along with the red-light-district vibe of Wan Chai perhaps?). There is also a full selection of beer and liquor in case you're not yet ready to stop partying. I wasn't, so I got a cookies & cream milkshake with Jack Daniels added to it. Delicious. We then ordered some burgers, which came on a really nice pillow-soft bun and wrapped in paper -- much like what you'd get at In-N-Out. Except here, you have the option to add bacon, fried egg, bleu cheese (I added all 3 of these) -- not to mention a whole host of other add-ons. We topped off the meal with an order of fries and an order of tater tots (yes -- tater tots!), which i asked to add cheddar cheese to (they happily obliged). I was in drunk-munchies heaven. We also had a few chicken wings, which were doused in a nicely spiced wing sauce and served with a pretty standard bleu cheese dressing. I do not have enough patience to wait too long for food, despite the great reviews for a place. In Burger Joys, the number of tables is small, and the place was full on a Thursday night. People were enjoying the food and not in a hurry to move. Moments before we turned and walked away a waitress managed to get us two seats at the bar. It was slightly cramped, but boy was I glad we waited. The Signature Double Cheeseburger was to die for. Gem in Wanchai!!! I am not even a burger eater but I LOVE this place! The pink-looking sauce in the burger was so good. The burger is very juicy. I tried both the cheese burger and the mushroom burger, both very good. Their cajun wings were so good. Oh and they have the best milk shakes in Hong Kong! I honestly didn't know what to expect when my friend and I got here. We were just so hungry that we did not have time to read reviews of other restaurants nearby. We thought "when in doubt, go to a burger joint", and that's what we did. This fast food restaurant is only a walking distance from our hotel (Brighton) along with other foreign and local restaurants, but this particular place caught our attention. It is a very small joint, but has a really nice atmosphere. We came here for lunch and we ordered two Cheeseburgers (HK$ 108 each), Tater Tots (HK$ 38), six pieces Crispy Garlic Wings (HK$ 48), Sprite (HK$ 22), and Dr. Pepper (HK$ 22). The cheeseburgers were so juicy and yummy. Any of their burgers is worth a try! This place is like the In-N-Out of Hong Kong. Came across this place on Instagram during a recent trip to HK. Historically there's been a bit of a dearth of authentic/quality western food in HK (think paisanos and pizza express) but this place deserves all the praise it gets. Well seasoned beef chuck, and a light brioche bun; steaming the bun is a novel approach, it makes it super juicy but a little hard to handle i think given the option i'd go with non-steamed. Nonetheless it's a really good burger, and every bit as good as many of the trendy joints you'll find state-side. All the guys working there are super friendly, and are clearly passionate about the product. Great place for a few cold beers and a quick bite if you're in that part of wan chai. read more

The food was just ok. I got a cheeseburger and truffle fries. The patty was good but so wet that it made the bun soggy & fall apart pretty quickly. The fries aren't any better especially when you pay a premium for the truffle but you can barely taste anything. The fries could be fried a little longer to make everything uniformly crispy.
