This is a resto in the old part of Lisbon so be aware sometimes there is a crowd but the wait the house managed to ease by giving you the option to wander about and come!3 back. Had no reservations so we were just walking around looking at menus and looking for a nice, quiet patio. This place looked great and we wanted some tapas for our last night in Lisbon. We started with the cheese plate and bread. The dips the bread came with were heavenly. And everything on the cheese plate has a purpose to merry together with each other. We also ordered the octopus salad with the intention to order other dishes but we were stuffed! What a lovely way to finish out our vacation! read more

Cafe No Chiado has a lovely, quiet, and classy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing meal. The ambiance is definitely one of the highlights of the place--it's calm and refined, making it a nice spot for a more peaceful dining experience. However, the food didn't live up to expectations. While it wasn't bad, it was rather bland and lacked the flavor we were hoping for. On top of that, the prices felt a bit too high for the quality and taste of the dishes. Given the combination of the mediocre food and the steep prices, I'm not sure I would return, especially when there are other spots in the area offering more flavorful meals for a better value. It's a nice place for a quiet moment, but I think there are better dining options in Lisbon. read more

Ate here our first night in Lisbon after we checked into our hotel and they gave us a card for a free Port Wine. We made a reservation online which also gave a discount off the entire check. We sat outside and sipped on wine and port while we watched the tram go by and chatted about our upcoming trip and adventures to come. Weather was great. Service was lovely, although there was a bit of a language barrier, but that's OK, I'm the one who doesn't speak Portuguese! We ordered some tapas as well, but no main entrees. Hidden off the main drag is this cute, upscale dining place. They drew us in with the outdoor area which was airy and inviting, we didn't even realize how many seats were inside. We went at lunchtime and the place was feeding quite a few people, locals and tourists (Europeans) but it wasn't loud or crowded. The head waiter spoke some English but the rest of the staff did not really. This is the type of place I like! Bread and 'sauces' were brought to the table, butter and tomato herb French dressing, and pate. They paired excellently with our vihno verde glasses (3€). We started with soups, chestnut and soup of the day which was 'legumes', lost in translation for me I assumed lentil and it was actually vegetable! Lol! Chestnut soup (winter item which changes for gazpacho in summer) was creamy and decadent. The legume soup had great flavor but not quite what I was looking for when I ordered it. I got the beef croquettes which were a beef paste covered and fried and served with hot mustard. They were spot on!! A must have especially if you like a hot mustard like Coleman's. My husband got the duck confit. Meat was falling off the bone and had perfect flavor and balanced salinity. When the waiter asked about dessert my husband said 'duck confit' jokingly but the waiter didn't know how to take it! Great spot for a relaxing lunch after a long night of travel. A short walk from our Hotel Ivens. I was wary given the low-star ratings. However, we had a wonderful dinner that was remarkably less expensive than many other places nearby. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty. Sitting outside and waving to the trolley passengers was fun. read more

Nice and charming location After failing to get a meal served in the incredibly disappointing "Xapuri" Restaurant (read my review) we walked a bit up and found this place here. We chose it mostly because it has some nice tables under some lovely trees, looking very charming in the evening. The menu looked fine too, so we waited until a table was available (which took about 25mins - had some white wine during waiting). Service here was very friendly and attentive. We ordered Padron's Peppers and Foie Gras for starters. Foie Gras had a good size, nicely presented and really good. Think about it what you want, I love it. We like spicy food....we're used to spicy food. But I gotta say the Peppers were quite something. We only managed about 5pcs each. Pretty spicy stuff! For the main we ordered a cheese platter and a charcuterie platter. The cheeses were really good. The goat's cheese was very flavourful (but not too strong) and very smooth. A good plate! The meat was good too. Ok, obviously came out of a package....but good quality still and a pretty big portion. A bottle of red to go with. All in all we ended up happy that evening (after the horrible start at "Xapuri"). Good service, good food and fair prices. Not the best meal we had in Lisbon...but still a very good one! read more

In short: Absolutely do not go. This place does not deserve your patronage. They will condescendingly talk down to you, serve you the wrong food, and charge exorbitant prices for a subpar experience. My family of four from several different U.S. states came here because it was close to where we were staying. I'm a New Yorker, so I've seen my fair share of fine dining with meticulous service, and food is an important experience to our family. This restaurant failed on all accounts. This is the kind of place that attempts to be high class but is actually a sham and tourist trap. There was live fado music tonight at the restaurant which we have never heard, but the waitress did not tell us until we were seated that there was a 7 euro extra charge per person for the entertainment. We were miffed this wasn't mentioned until we sat down but decided to stick it out anyway hoping it would be amazing. It was not. For 28 euros, we heard maybe 6-7 minutes of music total. Worst of all, the staff ceased any kind of service during the music. We finished ordering at 8:15pm. Our food was withheld until after 9pm because they would charge any table that was still sitting when the musicians started. So they did not bring out our food until after the first set of songs. And then one of the dishes was completely wrong. My mother told the male head waiter that her dish was incorrect and that we had been waiting 45+ minutes already. The man turned around and told us very rudely that "in Portugal, fado music is very important so we have to wait until they are done." We explained none of the waitresses before had mentioned any of this to us. We were not informed how the process worked, and when we asked for our food multiple times all they did was nod and then disappear. He only apologized for the wrong dish after he saw how displeased we were. In addition, bread and some spreads were placed on the table automatically implying they were complimentary, but luckily my sister noticed fine print on the menu that bread was not free nor were the spreads which were charged individually. Outrageous to be so predatory to unsuspecting guests. We ordered the squid, salmon, caprese salad, and chicken salad plus a soup of the day. The squid was supposed to have a tomato base but it was entirely in brown sauce. The salmon was mediocre, the chicken salad tasted like it was made from cheap ingredients like store bought ranch dressing, the caprese was too small of a portion for the price, and the soup was bland. The restaurant was also out of ingredients for some dishes. They table behind us were appalled that they had run out of food. My sister had to change her first choice because of this as well. We spent 92 euros total. 92 euros and 90 minutes completely wasted. There are plenty of cheaper, better places within minutes. read more

High end prices for cheap quality food & unsatisfactory service. Advertises Fado music but charges the patrons €7 per person to listen to the fado musicians. Will withhold your food until the musicians goes to intermission without any explanation after I asked for our food twice 1 hour after we ordered them. Not worth anybody's time & money!!! read more

Wish I could tell you how the food was here, but I can't. I CAN tell you how the service at the front door is - contemptuous, indifferent, disinterested. If this is some sort of concept restaurant where the concept is to see how disdainful of potential customers a restaurant can be - wow, mission accomplished! Hot tip for management: when someone stands in the front door of your restaurant looking for a table, and three different waitstaff make eye contact but completely ignore their presence--you're doing it wrong. Nice restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating right by square that had beautiful classical outdoor concert. Good service with tapas and main dishes such as salmon and shrimp curry. Had tv screen so we could also watch World Cup. read more

A bit hard to find, located next to the theatre where the symphony performs, but we'll worth the search. The concierge here at the Four Seasons found it for us. We wanted something light for dinner that was moderately priced, and were very pleased with our choices: Cod & Scrambled Eggs with julienne potatoes, Octopus sautéed on spinach and potatoes (pictured here), and Mini Steaks with sauces and French fries. All we're wonderful, but we had no room for the delicious sounding desserts, so we must go back. read more

Great spot to grab an afternoon drink and a little snack. The peppers and chèvre with apricots and almonds were two tasty dishes.

Hidden gem just steps from the Barrio Chiado metro station, walk down the street from McDonalds and look for the large, red lampshades out front. Reasonable prices and excellent food and service. read more

The food had a funky smell, so my initial thought as it got served was - "oh, rookie mistake, the octopus salad is probably a way to get rid of old octopus" and then my husband joked that we have to go get hard liquor next, so we can kill off whatever is about to make us sick... The charcuterie plate arrived pretty melted, as if it was pre-cut and kept out in a 40C / 100F room - not a very appetizing way to eat chorizo. The place is featured in a Lonely Planet tour guide and it was obvious that too many people read that... Deserves some stars for the nice location, outside patio and polite waiters, but overall, definitely skip this one and keep looking. read more

I went there because I was extremely hungry at night and it was one of the few places open after midnight. The staff are great and friendly, but their menu needs a little more clarification. I ordered hamburger but got the beef without the bun. That wasn't mentioned in the menu and it put me off. It tasted great, don't get me wrong, but I signed up for a proper burger not a semi-burger. My husband had the chicken salad which had more fruits than actual chicken, more of a fruit salad. It was okay, but not coming again. read more

A group of three of us ate at Cafe no Chiado last night, simply out of convenience as two other restaurants didn't end up working out. Unfortunately, it was not the best choice for us. First, the waiter seemed very busy (perhaps the only person waiting on all the outside tables) and even a little put off that we decided to sit there. It took a long time to get our wine and even longer for the food. We tried the Fois Grois (chewy), vegetable soup (all puréed), octopus salad (this was OK), beef croquettes (I was not a fan - really pulverized meat - think SPAM, sorry), chèvre salad, Greek salad and the duck Magret. For what we received both in food and service, it certainly was not worth the price. read more

Rather disappointing. We were there in the evening. I had Carpaccio with salad, where the salad sauce was way too intense and ruined the rest of the flavor. My wife had Octopus, which was rather stiff and tough to cut through. Service rather cool and unfriendly, so not recommendable :-( read more
