Corner cafés are literally on every corner in Paris. Café de la Comédie is right around the corner from the Louvre. We were quickly seated. My wife ordered quiche Lorraine. Light, fluffy, bits of ham & cheese with moist eggs. Perfectly done. I could only find one item on the menu with a toasted baguette, a word hotdog combo with cheese. The order also came with lukewarm roasted potatoes and a small side salad. Half my "sandwich" became the next days breakfast. A popular spot, insanely busy, and yet the staff was friendly and very helpful. We picked a great spot for lunch.

Sugared crepes and quiche. Yum!

Great location for people watching. Cappuccino was delicious. We had the Quiche Lorraine and sugared crepes....both were hot and tasty. Highly recommend.

Great location.

Had drinks outside on the patio with friends here last week while in Paris. We wandered around the Louvre at night taking photos and enjoying the city and easily found this lively spot and sat outside. Our waiter was friendly, the people out on the patio were friendly, and the drinks (coffee and teas) were flowing. They also still had food available and dessert. Very nice location and patio right off the street. Prices are on par with other spots around this touristy part of town.

Not a Nutella crepe...

Horrible place. We asked for Nutella crepes with strawberries, they gave us strawberry jam on a crepe. Highly recommend you go somewhere else. The waiter was rude, didn't provide service at all. Then got mad that I spoke up about the wrong order. I WOULD HIGHLY AVOID THIS PLACE.

After an exhausting day exploring the Musée du Louvre we walked a short distance over for some dinner at this nearby sidewalk cafe. The space is quite small with two stories. We were seated in the tiny upstairs area (take note that the narrow staircase can be a bit terrifying) and provided with English menus and a basket of traditional French baguette. The food was satisfying but nothing extraordinary. We ordered a roast beef sandwich that came with a side of potato wedges and a bit of salad and the Tagliatelle Carbonara to share among the three of us. The meat in the sandwich was extremely tough and difficult to chew. As a weary and hungry traveler, I did not want to expend any additional energy ingesting my food. Needless to say, I was displeased by how this order turned out. The pasta, however, was excellent - creamy and comforting on a cold night in Paris. Mixing in the egg yolk definitely added an incredible richness to the overall flavor. For dessert we had a chocolate banana crepe and the creme brulee. Both were very tasty. I especially enjoyed the creme brulee. Overall, my experience here was just okay. There is no such thing as bad French food but I have to say, this place is one of the more mediocre of what Paris has to offer.

Chocolate crepes with vanilla ice cream and croque monsieur - VN

Being that it was our second time in Paris, we decided to ditch the first timers at the Louvre and grab some French cuisine. ATMOSPHERE: Busy little cafe near the Louvre. Great for people watching along Rue St Honore. FOOD: Chocolate crepes with vanilla ice cream - Awesome. Crepes were cooked perfect. Vanilla ice cream was out of this world - never tasted vanilla like that. Super rich & flavorful. Croque Monsieur - I've never heard of this before. This isn't your everyday ham & cheese sandwich! It's not because we were in Paris. It's just unbelievably delish - from the cheese, to the toasted bread to the flavor of the ham. Ok, maybe the location has a little something to do with it. :) SERVICE: We walked in without a reservation and got seated immediately at a sidewalk table. Our server was friendly and professional. OVERALL: Nice ambience, great food & service. One of the joys of Paris!

Vegetable quiche and salmon penne.

The services sad totally awesome here. It's just a cute Cafe in a rather busy area. We didn't have a huge breakfast so stopping here for lunch was a great idea. I went with the dick confit and my partner went with the roast beef with hash browns (fries). We had room for dessert so of course we had crepes. Budget wise it doesn't break the bank at all.

Beef bourguignon

The food was really good, I mean surprisingly good considering the other pitfalls of the restaurant. It was reasonable prices for being so close to the louvre, however it was so unbelievably tiny that I felt like I was eating with everyone else. The waiter could hardly move and had to keep reaching over everyone and he smelled horribly like b.o. This is not a smell I enjoy while eating. The bathroom was upstairs and tiny and dirty. I ordered the beef bourguignon. The meat was tender the potatoes could have been cooked longer. I didn't realize it was a popular French dish but they did a good job at it.

Comedie burger

This is a cute place conveniently located near our hotel and the Louvre. However it's very small- the table sat so close to the neighboring table that our elbows could neatly touch. I ordered the comedie burger which comes with salad and fries - was ok at best. Also got the cheese pizza ( I know pizza in Paris ... lol) tasted like it was microwaved and arrived on board instead of a plate. Service was good and food moderately priced.

Cute little place, with great decor and atmosphere. More seating in the outdoor patio.

Cute cafe located just across from the Louvre. Though tiny, it was adorably decorated for Christmas. The service was superb, the food was delicious, and the price is affordable (ish). Nikolas was our server and he was funny and entertaining (hence the name, right?). I had the Croquet Madame which was like grilled cheese and ham sandwich with a fried egg topping. It came with a side of green salad - all very good. The Mister had the Roast Beef Sandwich with French fries and side of green salad which was also equally delicious. We had the banana crepe with coffee and chocolate drizzle with lots of whipped crime. The crepe was velvety and perfect. We finished with coffee (for him) and hot cocoa (for me). Great choice, they were both just lovely and great way to cap off our lunch (a mighty big lunch that filled us through the rest of the day). Overall a great place with great good - highly recommend. I deducted 1 star for a couple reasons. It was definitely tiny and packed - making dining a bit uncomfortable when everyone shows up in bulky coats. The restrooms are upstairs and can only be accessed through a narrow spiral staircase. Would not be comfortable for the larger Americans, but cute for the petite a. Lovely! Will definitely come back and highly recommend!!!

Crepes for the girls.

I started with the free-range eggs with mayo, and my wife started with the leeks with vinaigrette. The eggs were delicious, but the leeks may have been the best preparation I've ever had in my life. For our main courses, she had the egg muffin, and I had the sausage and mash. Our meal was superb. Whoever is in the kitchen has clearly learned the art of French cuisine well. Luca Recommended a meal with a mashed potatoes and sausage with French bread and salad and it sounded tasty so I gave it a go! All the flavors went well together; mashed potatoes were well seasoned the sausage had a good flavor, and the salad with the vinaigrette added a crunch in an extra flavor as well. I drank a French hard cider while I gobbled up my meal, which also was new for me and tasted great after I was done my meal. Luke brought me a shot with rum and some other ingredients, including lemon that definitely hit the spot after a good meal.I recommend Brasserie Belanger for anyone near GDN Train Station that enjoys great food and patio dining. Cheers!

However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. Just finished a long bike ride to the Eiffel Tower and worked up an appetite. Decided to go straight to the main course. They are known for Au Gratins. I decided to stick with the house specialty; Landais Au Gratin (cream potatoes, duck breast and emmental cheese). The 2 German girls beside me ordered a cider with both their meals so I followed their lead. When in Paris...... Considering the temperature, I almost second-guess myself and ordered something other than their house specialty of au gratin potatoes. In the end, I was very glad I overruled that thought. Friday lunch was an absolute beauty…read more The food? Fantastic. The wait times? Let's just say we're in Paris, not a Formula 1 pit lane. We'll leave it at that. We headed to Chez Janou, a Paris institution. I hadn't been in years, but my son insisted we go back because, according to him, they have the best chocolate mousse in Paris. Judging by the lineup, half the city; and every tourist with an Instagram account showed up. Thankfully we had a 2pm reso. Here's the thing, though. Everyone talks about the mousse, but the food deserves just as much attention. I'd also forgotten how much I love the 3rd arrondissement. Wander a few minutes from the restaurant and you'll find beautiful art galleries, a gorgeous little park, and some of the best boutique shopping in Paris. It's one of those neighbourhoods where you accidentally walk 15,000 steps without realizing it. Now, here's your game plan. Start with the escargots or the gambas to share. For your main, order the farci provençal or the foie de veau. The farci is like a French version of a stuffed pepper: yummy comfort food with a southern coast twist. As for the foie de veau... I actually ordered it by mistake. I thought I was getting regular veal. Out came veal liver. Best mistake of the day. I love liver. My mom makes an incredible liver and onions, so I'm a tough judge. This was outstanding. Rich, buttery, perfectly cooked and perfectly salted. It was so good I immediately texted my mom and told her she's coming here the next time she's in Paris. Drum roll, please... The chocolate mousse. Was it worth all the hype? Yep. There are no fancy swirls or little artistic desserts here. A server simply walks over carrying what looks like a white industrial-sized bowl of chocolate mousse and casually drops a mountain of it onto your plate. Everyone grabs a spoon and starts digging in. It's wonderfully French. Simple. Unpretentious. Ridiculously good. So yes, Chez Janou lives up to the hype. But don't just come for the mousse. Come for the lunch, stay for the neighbourhood, and spend the afternoon getting happily lost in one of the best corners of Paris. That's a Friday well spent.
