The man behind the counter got the order wrong. They charge way more for non-dairy milk than the other coffee places. Overpriced drinks and not that good. Snobby and pretentious. I can't get past poor customer service! The atmosphere is great. The seating is fun and comfortable and there are varied styles - couches for schmoozing with friends and tables for working or studying. The blueberry muffins and oatmeal raisin cookies are scrumptious. However, it's all in the customer service. I went to mean a friend. We got iced tea and yummies and talked for a bit. We were told at 5:55 they were closing in 5 minutes. We started to gather our things and make plans / decisions about where to relocate. As we were discussing and gathering our stuff we were rudely told it was time to go with, and I quote, "It's 6:02 and we close at 6:00." I've worked in restaurants, book stores, and other retail settings. You can not expect to walk out the door when the shop closes. If you want to leave at 6, close at 5:30. I'll update my review if the customer service improves. I haven't had a problem in the past, which is why I am rating this a 4 - for the atmosphere and food items and subtracting 1 for the customer service. read more

This is definitely my new favorite coffee shop in the greater Stamford area. I make the drive here on days I want to sit a bit and enjoy coffee and get some work done, because there's just nothing comparable in Stamford that I've found (if I'm wrong, please let me know!) To start, the coffee is great. The food options seem good as well, but so far I've only tried a variety of coffees and baked goods. The pistachio muffin is delicious, albeit so high in calories. What I really love is that it's such a great space and atmosphere. There are lots of little nooks and places to sit that feel private-ish, and perfect for working, interspersed with larger seating areas for groups. I love that there are books around, giving an overall feeling of a modern library. The outdoor space is great as well. Out front is some seating, wth a few comfy outdoor chairs, and around the side are additional wrought-iron tables for two. Parking isn't fun in this part of town, but I often park in the lot behind CVS and walk over. There's one-hour street parking out front if you can find a spot and won't be over an hour. read more

It's a nice concept in general. Darien needs something like this. They claim to serve Italian coffee but have croissant sandwiches. They want to be Italian and French. I visited on 12/28/2018 in late afternoon. There were only 2 employees. Tables weren't being cleaned. There were 2 Mothers with 7 or 8 screaming kids running around the place. It may have a rustic feel but the ambience was not quite what I expected. This is a Boston chain. They're used to young college students up there. If they want to survive in Darien they're going to have to adapt a little more. Better trained employees to start. People will continue to overpay for the "experience" if the coffee and food choices are truly worth it. It's nice having another choice in town. Let's see if they can make it work. If you are in a hurry and need something to take out they seem to have a good number of quality choices. I'm willing to try it a few more times and go from there. read more

Ordered from grubhub this time, I forgot I been to this place before . Don't be fooled, this is a corporation. Nice interior to the place, but all the food is pre-made and the employees were not too friendly. I requested 'less ice' with this order and still had at least 1/4 of my cold brew's cup filled with ice. Not terrible, but the sandwiches and coffee are laughably overpriced. The baguettes look like a nice size online but they're half the size they appear as advertised. Go somewhere local to get more bang for your buck! read more

Too cool for words. I am a coffee house hound and this place is absolutely one of the best. For me, better than any place in the New York City boroughs. The cappuccinos taste authentically Italian to me.The espresso beans have that Italian characteristic which is very different from most American espresso beans. The barista (with blonde hair) was extremely rude, didn't even turn around to take my order. She also did not pay attention to my order, i am severely allergic to dairy and i asked for dairy free milk but she then continued to make my coffee with whole milk. I politely asked her to use dairy free like i ordered and she rolled her eyes, poured out the milk and used the same dairy contaminated cup. I really want to like this place because the decor and vibe are awesome, but I don't. Third time here and all three times I have been disappointed. The employees are so unfriendly and reluctant to serve me. They have never welcomed me, been cheerful or happy to serve. Just a blank face and no personality. Usually, I find myself frequenting a different local coffee shop, however, I found myself in Caffe Nero today. I found myself in line waiting to be helped but I was quickly cut in line by a disoriented mother. I was extremely insulted that the employee, who made eye contact with me, didn't intervene on my behalf. This caused my transaction to be extended by about 5 mjnutes. Imagine if I was a doctor on call or a cable repairperson and had places to be. The employee should have done right by me and took my order first. Please stop treating customers like second class citizens. I will return soon to see if their employees have been properly trained on "No Cutzies" policies. read more

This is my new favorite hangout in town for casual meetings or just a change of scenery when I want to escape the office. Yummy foods, delicious beverages (I'm not a coffee drinker) and attentive service. Parking is easy and also a great place to sit outside and chill. Love the relaxed vibe here. Music is sometimes a bit loud for conference calls but hey it's cafe not a library! Free reliable WiFi and big wooden tables make it a great place to get work done. I'm here at least once or twice a week. A bike rack might be nice other than that it's great! read more

My new favourite cafe, I drive from Stamford there. I just loved it, big space, very nice decorated inside, very cosy, doesn't't even feel like cafe, feels like someone home, very comfortable chairs, cheaper than Starbucks, and better too, no rush, no crazy people with kids, very chill music, makes me very relaxed. Caffe Nero has become my go to coffee shop in the area! Their brewed coffee is some of the best that I've had. Can't wait to try the cold brew once it gets a little warmer outside. I also love the ambiance..from the books, to the comfy chairs to the fireplace. It's a perfect cozy spot to get some work done, catch-up with a friend or to sit back, relax and unwind. The food is great, the drinks are alright, but the customer service I've experienced many times is greatly lacking. I understand that it is the holiday season and Caffé Nero is understaffed at this time, but the comments that were made about mine and my friend's orders were incredibly rude and nearly caused me to lose my appetite. I was tempted to just cancel my order. This particular worker made comments about how my friends and I intentionally ordered the same things (which we didn't, we all just like the same food), were practically the same person, and interrupting my order to speak to the worker about our orders in a tone that implied that we have inconvenienced her in a drastic way. I am a generally understanding and forgiving person, but if comments were made about me AND my friends, I will stand up for us. In the past I have felt that my patronage has been unwanted, but this cuts the cake for me. read more

Where to even begin with Caffe Nero... as we all struggle to keep busy during this time I wanted to take some time to pay some compliments to undoubtedly the best coffee spot in Darien and perhaps the entire tri-state. As someone who works in NYC and lives in the area I've had a cup of joe from hundreds of places but a Nero iced coffee will fat and away always be the best. The coffee sips so smooth that it truly doesn't even any additional milk or sugar. However if that is something you're looking for they have any additional additives you'd want. Soy mills, they got it; almond milk, got it. But truly the coffee only scratches the surface of the how sublime this spot is. If you decide to stick around to enjoy the best cup of coffee in town you can do so in comfy and cozy prefect designed library atmosphere. Decorative bookshelves line the walls coupled with a the fireplace in the center makes it feel as if you are in your own living room. During the warm months you can choose to sit on the sun drenched patio overlooking the Darien downtown. I legitimately do not have a single negative thing to say about this wonderful establishment. Anyone who's complaining about the price doesn't understand the quality of the the coffee or enjoy the perfect atmosphere Caffe Nero has to offer. Five stars does not accurately rate this place. 10 stars from me. I look forward to being a regular patron again once they re-open the doors. Take it or leave is the staff's motto. I asked if I could add avocado to my vegetarian Capri sandwich . No because we have no way of adding anything to the price, but you can remove things. My husbands vegetarian Frittata wasn't hot. For $22 for a very small Capri Sandwich, Frittata, cider and coffee that is better than Starbucks but not as good as Dunkin...go somewhere with service and a better attitude.. saving grace, nine interior. a good selection of vegan options for an omni establishment. the vegan breakfast sandwich is delicious, the new vegan caesar salad is great also, the dressing is spot on. there is also a rainbow chopped salad which is the healthiest thing you can get at any cafe in the area, i recommend the lemon tahini dressing for it. there is also a vegan berry muffin that tastes great. they also have a few vegan packaged items at the counter if you're looking for just a snack. they have oat and almond milk as cruelty free options, and use separate pitchers to steam the milk. the white chocolate and caramel sauces contain dairy but the caramel syrup (and all the other flavours) as well as the hot chocolate/mocha are vegan friendly. the cold brew is the best. read more

This place is terrible. All style, no substance. The coffee is fine but overpriced. Would much rather support NEAT in that category, where the product is better, the people are nicer, and it's not a mega chain (this is a large chain from London (not Italy), which has 20+ cafes in Boston and is now entering the New York area). The hot chocolate is also not popular with the kids - haven't tried it, but both our kids and some of their friends tried it once and don't want to go back, preferring anywhere else. The food is REALLY weak, and particularly over-priced. I tried one of the lunch salads, and the chicken was clearly cooked and cubed far away several days ago and has been a little too cold ever since, tasting as if it has been half frozen for days. Portions are small - sandwiches are particularly tiny. You really can't find a decent lunch here. So it's purely an overpriced coffee place with some snacks. Snacks are generic - yogurts and potato chips you can find at Stop & Shop and probably already have at home. Unless you want a pastry/croissant, which seem to be decent if over-priced. The parking situation is particularly awful - you cannot park in the lot behind Bankwell (that lot is for Bankwell, Club Pilates and the offices upstairs... and they are going to start TOWING!!! Hard to blame them since they are paying rent for those parking spaces, and their customers are finding the lot full constantly and having to park elsewhere. I have witnessed multiple shouting matches in the parking lot - awful). So unless you score a spot on the Post Rd right in front of Verizon/Caffe Nero, you're at risk of getting towed, or you have to park behind the movie theater which is not very close to the Post Rd entrance if it's raining, etc. And then it is full of people who think it's their office, so if for some reason you do want to go make it your personal living room away from home, or even just sit down for five minutes with your over-priced coffee, you will be hard-pressed to find an attractive spot at most hours. I also can't stand that atmosphere of people loitering, pretending to host "meetings" and interviews in a public establishment, but maybe that's just my personal hangup. I gave this place one star out of five. I just can't find anything to like. While it's full of people using it as their office / study hall, I'm not sure it's full of customers. Between mostly weak product offerings, unremarkable staff, high prices and terrible parking (risk of getting towed), I would be surprised if this place ever makes it into the black, and I'd expect the parent company to pull the plug within 2-3 years if they can get out of their lease without too much damage. At which point the "cool" space will probably get turned into something more appropriate for the location! read more
