Visited Neat, and I have to say the service was excellent, and the coffee was absolutely delicious and incredibly refreshing. We also tried the fluffy bread, which was just as enjoyable. One thing to be aware of is that the ground flooring is very uneven, so it's worth watching your step while walking around. Unfortunately, our date was cut short due to an incident in the surrounding area shortly after we grabbed our coffee and food. Even though my experiences at Neat are almost uniformly mediocre, I did stop in again. This time, after ordering, I was informed that I would receive my coffee in a paper cup. "Why" I asked . "Our sterilizer is broken." "How long has it been broken?" "A few weeks." I realize that here in the wild outback of Darien Connecticut can be hard to get service on a piece of equipment because the technician has to ford rivers and cross mountains, but two weeks? NEAT: Not Exactly an AmazingWay ToSpendMyMoney. While strolling the bustling streets of downtown Darien during Sidewalk Sales, I sought two simple things: a cold drink to provide me salvation from the oppressive heat and WiFi for me to load up work on my computer - feigning productivity - only to scroll the internet for a couple hours. While NEAT provided me both of those, the rest of the experience was lackluster. The cashier seemed generally disinterested in customer service, the interior decoration resembled that of an IKEA kids section, and the pastry case was utterly disappointing (we can do better than mini donuts and chocolate chip cookies that looked like failed muffin-tops, y'all). My iced coffee was quite nice, though the price made me ensure I parked myself down inside the establishment right up until closing. The bathroom was quite nice though, would highly recommend making a stop there during your visit read more

I had never been to this coffee shop before and will never go back. I ordered two coffees (hot with cream, decaf Americano with cream). Both were undrinkable. The coffee was so sour it left a bad taste in my mouth and I threw it away. I don't believe it was bad cream, rather bad coffee. Either the coffee was not fresh and had been sitting for a while or the beans it was made from were old and had turned sour. For $10+ this is completely unacceptable. Ended up driving out of my way to Dunkin Donuts and the coffee was fresh and tasted good. I'm so tired of overpriced boutique coffee shops. It's hit or miss whether the coffee is any good. The staff at these places are usually young kids who are indifferent to the customer and likely don't even drink coffee. Doubtful they know how to brew a good cup. Ambience is great. Coffee was fine, felt overpriced. I enjoy sitting outside in the nice weather to read by the fountain mostly.

4 stars because I've been back multiple times and no complaints really. But, it might be because of the tasty, rather pricey boulangerie next door if I'm honest. The craft coffee is decent enough that I don't mind coming here if I don't have many options at the time for whatever reason, but it's not my favorite coffee. I just never finish a coffee from here and think yup, that was it. And I kind of like to feel like life is complete, at least for a bit, after a really great coffee. That's not this, but I wouldn't say it's terrible, and is definitely better than some other options in the area. I would certainly choose over a chain coffee shop in a heartbeat. The craft of the cortado and flat white were decent, the espresso is on the bitter side, there's something slightly lacking in the depth of its flavor for me. In case you didn't know, Darien, CT is one of the snottiest towns ever, with overpriced everything and an above average number of borderline personality nouveau riche. I cannot fault Neat for choosing to be in Darien, CT, in fact, it was probs a genius business decision bc Darien, CT has higher per capita income and locals can presumably afford this delicious, somewhat pricy coffee on a daily basis as caffeine in a beautiful latte art liquid drug form is pretty addictive. But. Darien, CT. Great alternative to the major coffee chains. Limited seating, however, there are a few seats outside. Nothing like blue bottle quality but for CT coffee shops, this is probably the best so far. I tend to opt for a pour over but when in a rush, their premade drip is fine too. read more

I got it with regular milk but while waiting, I noticed a fridge in the back with many cartons of half & half. So I was lied to straight faced. I'd guess people with a few extra dollars to waste will always think a place is great if they're spending more money than they need to. A rude staff and uptight atmosphere tops off the experience. My favorite coffee place in the area. We drive about 40 minutes to get here and when I have my first sip I know it's worth to drive so far for a cup of coffee. The place is light and clean, even the sound of music playing is so perfect. The boys working on making coffee are polite, nice and professionals of their job. I'm the person who notices little things, like when they are putting the dishes quietly or when they aren't busy, watching around to clean and tidy the place. Even when they are talking to each other, they are so quiet no one notices or gets disturbed by it. When your coffee is ready, they don't scream out loud like in some other places. Something bad has happened here and this place can no longer be considered specialty coffee. Worker behind the counter pulled an push button shot (vs a manual shot that a skilled barista would do) that ran for over a minute. Milk for the cappuccino was about 1/2 of a cappuccino cup (they basically shorted a typically 6 oz small size specialty coffee cappuccino and made in into a 3 oz drink but called it a cappuccino).
