I've become a regular at the Gregorys Coffee in Darien Commons, and it has become one of my local spots for a quick caffeine hit or to get some work done weather permitting. The Atmosphere The location here is stunning. It's a beautiful, open space with massive windows that let in a ton of natural light. Inside, there's a good mix of seating--from a cozy sofa to standard tables and chairs. When the weather is nice, the outdoor seating in the courtyard is the place to be; it's a perfect environment for chatting with friends or focusing on a laptop. The Drinks In my opinion, the quality of the beverages here is a step above Dunkin' or Starbucks. Yes, the price point is a bit higher, but you truly taste the difference. My go-to order is the iced Fall Oat Boy with honey--it's consistently delicious. I also appreciate that they have plenty of vegan options clearly marked on the menu. The Food & Parking The one area that consistently misses the mark for me is the hot sandwiches. I've tried several, including the Deluxe (turkey sausage and egg on a croissant) and the Vegan Deluxe. While the menu pictures look great, reality is something much different. The heating method they use is a letdown. Instead of a light, flaky, crispy croissant, the sandwiches consistently come out soggy and wet, which is a bummer. Awesome coffee - many fun flavors and drinks to try. Lots of free parking, very bright and lively inside, great spot to meet up with friends. There are tables with booth and chair seating, although the tables are tiny so there is not much room for anything more than a laptop. There are outlets under the booth so charging devices is not a problem. Because the tables were tiny and very close to each other though, it was difficult to concentrate as it's a lively spot with lots of people. Great spot to catch up with friends, not a great spot for focus. I will be back to try the other coffees with some friends! read more

I love that this Gregory's Coffee has a beautiful space for outdoor seating! It's perfect for spring and summer weather! While the ambiance was great, we waited about 25 mins for our drinks and food. The prices are also on the higher side. Paid over $5 for a small cold brew, and $6 for a breakfast sandwich that was super small. Overall, very nice place to catch up with a friend for coffee and do some work, but pricey. read more

Interior well decorated and clean. Lots of tables/seats available. Large parking lot. However, would not recommend to anyone nor would I come back. I ordered their Cherry blossom latte (espresso) and an Iced Americano. They initially made a mistake on my order and gave me the Matcha version. The staff was professional, apologized, and fixed my drink. There was no cold foam on the drink as advertised on their menu.....This was by far one of the worst coffee I've had. Their classic coffee menu items like the Honey Badger (cold brew w/almond milk & honey) and the Hall & Oates (cold brew w/oat milk, cinnamon & vanilla) are two of my staple favorites. Gregorys (no apostrophe) was founded by Gregory and Shalaine Zamfotis, a husband and wife team, with initial support and inspiration provided by Gregory's father, a fast casual restauranteur based in NYC. CONCEPT: Gregorys was initially inspired by a perceived gap -- there were no exceptional and quick options for coffee in Manhattan. Gregorys strives to sell baked goods, prepared sandwiches, and beverages with an orientation towards (1) high quality (they roast their own coffee and bake their own pastries); (2) nutritional considerations (a professional nutritionist on the team guides product development); (3) provision of a wide range of plant-based (vegan) options (Gregory follows a plant-based diet himself). LOCATION: The Darien shop marks the 42nd location, with five sites in DC and the remaining scattered across the tri-state area (home of the Zamfotis family). EXPERIENCE: Gregorys offers a more creative and unusual menu of beverages than national coffee shop chains, and I arrived with the intention to try Excuse You, a hot latte composed of Gregorys' Night Vision espresso, oat milk, and seasoned with both citrus and yuzu syrups. I asked for guidance at the order counter and was assured this was a good choice, however the person working beside him encouraged me to catch the seasonal Fall Oat Boy as it has been a local hit. It winds up this person was Gregory himself! The family lives nearby, and the fact that the founder and CEO was actively working alongside his employees reflects the level of care that is the foundation of the expanding business's success. The Fall Oat Boy was a unique alternative to the pumpkin spice lattes that herald the season in the North East. It is a flavorful mix of Night Vision espresso, oat milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and hazelnut and maple syrups. I was so glad to have been nudged to try it. I ordered the flavor-packed Vegan Bar to accompany it, knowing that this item is reportedly a favorite of Gregory's wife. House-made date syrup envelops and joins rolled oats, apples, coconut, apricot, and peanut butter, pairing beautifully with the recommended beverage. Curious as to how the egg sandwiches would compare to Starbucks, I also ordered the Deluxe -- egg, American cheese, and sliced turkey sausage links encased in a croissant. The croissant was warm, toasted in a small oven. The interior combination was deliciously seasoned. Before I left I shared with Gregory my positive impression. Although this location is an hour south of my home, I was happy to have learned about Gregorys and will look to visit locations in New York and DC in the course of my travels. TIPS: Gregorys roasts it's own coffee in Long Island City. Bags of beans (12 oz and 5 lb) can be purchased at shop, via subscription, as well as online. Each bag (12 oz around $14) can be ground in advance with three options (course, medium, and fine). With each bag a pair of glasses is donated. Don't have a Gregorys nearby yet and pining for their baked goods? Individual purchases of ten packs, as well as subscriptions, can be arranged through their website. I usually come here for the cozy atmosphere, but my experience this morning was surprisingly unpleasant. The barista with very short hair was dismissive from the moment I approached the counter. I asked if she could break a ten into two fives, and she told me she'd "have to open the register," but never actually did it or followed up. She simply handed me my coffee and moved on without acknowledging the request. There was no eye contact, no "have a good day," not even a "you're welcome" after I thanked her. For whatever reason it did not show up on the app and when we inquired in the store, they claimed no knowledge. "We have a carrot muffin" Asked if it was vegan and the response was, "I don't know." Way overpriced ($14 for 2 coffees and non-Vegan blueberry muffin... which was good. We were greeted only after standing at the counter, trying to make eye contact w baristas. I've always been curious to try Gregorys Coffee, so we visited our closest location at Darien Commons! It's such a nice place, and I could definitely see myself doing work here or even reading a book. We ordered their new refreshers and they were awesome!! I'm notoriously picky when it comes to drinks like this, and the strawberry hibiscus one is the first one I've ever really enjoyed!! These are a perfect pick-me-up with the warmer weather. It's a decent spot but I cannot justify spending $6 on a 10 ounce drink. The man that helped me was nice. It was going for a plant aesthetic inside and it was nice enough but all the plants were fake which was disappointing because the natural light inside is amazing. Manhattan comes to Darien! It's a solid coffee shop that has a lot of good choices. I'm a fan of dark roast and theirs is very good. It's a lovely stand alone place in Darien Commons and it offers some good baked and hot items to go along with your latte. I know this will seem weird but I don't like the door into the place. It is one of those latch doors and if you have two coffees in your hands it's impossible to open. It also lets all the cold air in! My wife loves their tea which says a lot for a tea snob. The staff is fine - they could smile a bit more however. I'm happy this place is close to my house! read more

Visited this cafe spot this morning! This new coffee shop is so cute! I have heard of Gregory's before in the city, and was excited to visit their new location in Noroton. A beautiful little cafe. First time visiting it and the coffee was really great. Service was excellent and very friendly. We would like to go back, perhaps. I would have given this place four stars; however, the only thing we didn't care for was that when we got there, we couldn't find a seat and had to wait around and considered just leaving because there were a lot of people there spread out on their laptops using the cafe as their personal office or study space -- super annoying!!! Study/do office work at home, go to the library, or go rent an office space. It's really off-putting to want to visit a cafe with a friend to sit and have a coffee and a chat, but not be able to find room to sit because the seating has become an office space/study hall. And it wasn't just us--we noticed other patrons come in, order coffee and then give up trying to find a place to sit and just leave. Too bad. read more

Food was okay but when I entered Gregory's for the first time I was met with an older man who seemed like the manager who gave me nothing but passive aggressive assistance while working his employees like cattle. The staff are obviously over worked and treated unfairly which makes the entire ambiance of cafè pedestrian and depressing. Truly disappointing. All employees seem like truly happy and nice people who just want to provide themselves with a stable salary which is why it's so tragic to see the management take advantage of them. read more

I recently visited the newly opened Gregory's on Darien CT and the service could have been better. I ordered the peanut pleasure with a shot of espresso. The cashier whispered something to the barista and she instantly shouts out loud with an annoyed face OMG. I asked them both is there an issue and the cashier said to me "we've been busy all day so we will have to clean the blender to make your drink. " I've never worked in the food industry but I'm pretty sure that you should be cleaning your equipment after every drink. Once she decided to make my drink she walks away to the back bitting her nails. Yuck!! I strongly encourage you to train your employees on customer service and hygiene. read more
