This place is run by geniuses. They have figured out how to charge as much as possible for every item in the store. Ordered a BEC on a Kaiser roll to go online (they use chow hound). Roll not toasted. Smallest egg I've ever seen. One strip of bacon. $6. I could not bring myself to pay for anything else there after that. read more

But that aside, the market is full of quality retail as well as a booming kitchen rolling out breakfast, lunch & food to go like hot cookies, breakfast- bagels to burritos, prepared sandwiches or made to order from the full service deli, hot & cold prepared sushi, salads, soup etc, self serve coffee as well as an espresso bar & dessert counter. Love the market and usually go at least once a week. Great spot for breakfast sandwiches and wraps or a quick salad or sandwich for lunch. They also have most groceries you'd need although the basics are definitely overpriced but can't beat the convenience if you live nearby. Some tables out front where you can sit with your pup. Also super close to Pinkney Park if you want to eat at a picnic table. There's an outdoor patio on the water at the back of the market too. read more

A walkable downtown location makes Rowayton Market the go-to spot for locals. They have almost everything, breakfast, lunch dinner, groceries, coffee. I think they even sell firewood in the winter. Here are my three highlights: Breakfast - RM makes a great breakfast sandwich. On the pricier side (~$6) but this is standard for Rowayton. I love their Portuguese rolls and I lean more towards their bacon than sausage. You can also snag a bagel or muffin or even a quiche if you're into that sorta thing. Coffee Shop - The baristas here are fantastic, coffee isn't overly expensive, and they can make you whatever you want if you like those fancy cinnamon spiced latte mocachino things. I like drip coffee and they serve 3-4 varieties at any given time. Muffins, donuts, croissants available in the same spot. Could be its own standalone offering but it lives inside the market. Eat Outside - There's a patio out back with a fantastic view. You can order your food/coffee "for here" and they'll bring it to you. This is a fantastic hidden spot in the summer and despite the traffic inside the market is typically a laid back spot to eat. Overall, Rowayton Market is a staple in the area and your year-round one stop shop. Just be prepared to spend a little more here, they live on the the winning side of supply and demand. read more

Had two bad experiences here back to back. First, I got a bag of Rowayton Market's whole bean coffee and there was a tiny ROCK among the beans! Definitely not good for my coffee grinder. Also just a bit confusing. Went back anyway since it's the only market around, this time got lattes with a friend. Both lattes were the worst we've ever had, including dining hall lattes at college. Mine had regular milk and tasted like someone had poured steamed milk into a cup that had previously held crappy hot chocolate. No taste of coffee at all, and I don't know where the chocolate flavor came from. My friend's had oat milk, and it tasted like fakely sweetened cardboard. Again no flavor of coffee. Pretty disappointed overall, but if you're just looking to buy some groceries I'm sure it's fine! read more

I can't believe this hasn't been yelped yet cause I think its been around for over 20 years. I was in Rowayton for the weekend and this place was our brunch choice. Coming from Boston you can't find places like this there. It's packed with freshness and goodies. You'll find fresh flower bunches as soon as you walk in, ready for you to take home to your table. Fresh squeezed OJ and smoothies sit on ice ready to go. The deli counter looked and smelled delicious. Entrees, apps, and sandwiches are ready for takeout. We got breakfast sandwiches and coffee. My bacon, egg and cheese was delicious. The guys behind the counter were super friendly. I also got some cupcakes to go (Oreo, peanut butter cup, and vanilla). They were very creatively decorated and very good. They were moist and some even had fresh berries on top. The cake selection was fantastic with all different sizes ready for purchase. Cookies and brownies wait for your sweet tooth. There is a small deck in the back overlooking the five mile river you could take you food out to. This is the perfect place to stop in for a quick bite with some country charm. read more

Dissapointed by the deli dept.'s lack of love and generosity that they put into their fairly expensive lunch sandwiches. I ordered a Turkey club and my gf ordered a Chicken Cutlet sandwich and we were both unpleasantly surprised and dissatisfied! As we hungrily opened the wrapping on each of our orders when we got home, we sadly discovered two overly dry wedges just slapped together with little condiment distribution, completely out of proportion to the measly amount of meat and toppings that they were supposed to be "filled" with. I would've given only one star if I didn't enjoy their BEC breakfast sandwiches so much. C'mon, Rowayton market and midday deli employees...we get that the times have been tough for all, esp. small businesses...but that's even more of a reason to work a litttttle harder in making decent sandwiches for the people who are supporting who can also use a little something to look forward to since there's so little else to do but eat our feelings. read more

If there was a negative star this place would get it. Overpriced premade sandwich because the line was insane (three cashier stands but only one had a cashier at NOON), grabbed an "east beach" because only other thing that was fairly appetizing would have been salads, but the lettuce in each was barely enough to call it a salad and yellow. So sandwich, chips and a drink it is. $13.50?? When i got back to work (just started in the area so i'll find some place better to eat soon!), i had to throw out the tomatos, "grilled chicken" (which was thick cut lunch meat that was pink) and the bacon which was rubber. Wow. We've lived in Rowayton a quarter century and have seen many different versions of all our favorite places evolve. But we've been remiss not to review ''The Market". Marc and his team have turned Rowayton Market into a great asset for the neighborhood and beyond. From coffee at breakfast through sandwiches at lunch to all we need for dinner. We go there mainly for dinner preparations. Fresh meat and vegetables. Outstanding prepared entrees and sides. And staples when we need them. Tonight for example we bought fantastic hanger steak (a favorite) asparagus and prepared broccoli rabe. Steak and asparagus we marinated and grilled and the rabe we reheated gently. This is a great place to grab a sandwich, some sushi, or even a piece of steak and some sides to take home. You can grab breakfast here as well if you are nearby early in the day. Myself, I have enjoyed various sandwiches and the sushi here. All of them have been very good. What sets this deli apart, is the back deck with a great view of a nice river that goes out into Long Island Sound. Halfway point on my 50 mile Bedford to Rowayton bike ride lies the Rowayton Market. Usually a useful pitstop for drinks and energy bars before the ride back. Fortunately they just pulled out the soft shelled crab sandwiches from the back as I stood in line. I took a little convincing from Marc but it was worth it. The cooking oil was fresh cause I did not feel heavy on the long ride up the hill home. Great spot for lunch in the sping and summer. I will be back for some SUP and lunch once the weather warms up a bit more. read more

Eh - this place has lost much of its appeal since I first started visiting it over a decade ago. The service has diminished as there seems to be a turnover in personnel and the atmosphere is much less friendly. Staff seems annoyed when you a make any request that does not fall into the protocol which they are used to. Often the order is incorrect as well. The food used to be fresh but now it's hit and miss depending on the day and with the prices they charge one would expect consistency. The bagels are often stale, the sushi a bit too old and the fruit a day too ripe. There is also a feeling of nickel and dime when almond milk is an add on of $.50 to your coffee. It's a free market business though and Chef Marc needs to balance service, quality and price. I think his approach is currently off balance and he can do much better. The staff is also ardent enforcers of the mask policy but it doesn't seem to apply to them. The location however is beautiful. read more

See many misdirected reviews here for Rowayton seafood restaurant and market which is a different place entirely. This is the true gem of Rowayton and keeps residents from needing to go to Darien for every little thing- groceries, deli and coffee bar. The best part is the back patio on the river which is heated in the winter. Watch the boats go in and out while having a coffee and a snack, doesn't get better than this in FFC. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would for the absolutely horrible service i just received from this place. My husband and I ordered thru Uber eats and ordered a few things. Everything came but the salad so we called and the answer we got was "we were out of salads so we didn't send it" how about calling the customer before the order leaves your restaurant! He began to argue with me that I was wrong and he was right. When all I was looking for was an apology or an reasonable explanation, not an attitude about how I should have jus tcontacted uber and that this was not their issue. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he was and hung up in my face. He then began to argue with me that I was wrong because I thought he scammed me and I was wrong. Never once did I give him that impression, we just wish they contacted us to explain the situation but he said that he didn't have time for that and he was more worried about the present customers in front of him. I was baffled and started to raise my voice bc I didn't understand how he could be so inconsiderate and also be in a management position. I would've gotten his name but he hung up in my face when I asked. I am a business owner and not unreasonable or combative in anyway. I was confused that a manager could be that unprofessional. After we asked why nobody notified us the "owner" himself as he said he was wouldn't give us his name and hung up on us several times. He said he has no way of resolving an issue like this?! What?!! Instead of arguing with the customer wouldn't you try and work with them? To atleast keep the customer?! So then he took the salad off the bill which was great but if you had time to resolve it now why not call us before so that we can change our order? We are baffled by the horrible customer service. It was freezing out as I waited outside the market at 3 minutes to 7:00am opening time. Staff inside ignored that I was there and when they finally opened at 7:03 someone unlocked the door and walked away. For such a community type market I'd expect a bit of a warmer welcome and maybe even a hello. Or, opening the door prior to 7:00 instead of watching me stand out in the cold. It wasn.t the restaurant but the tiny Fish market at the back end of the parking lot. Small tiny and wow the two working there(Scott n Danielle) do all they can to make it well worth it! Not only do they service customers for a fish order to take home, they cook their fun but seafaring menu items for you, cut fish , shuck clams and oysters and done fresh. The food was fantastic especially the lobster rolls. Its not a frankies or mcdonalds but wow what a unique hideaway. Oh they serve you too but beware its plastic ware . Sit out on the patio, see the boats and watch the water where you may be sharing the table with others.. We will be back immed. read more

Stopped by Sun afternoon to pick up dinner, I had fish and chips, very generous portion, nice and tasty. My wife had fried oysters and fried clams, also nicely portioned, and Delicious!!! The manager Scott was very friendly, informative, and helpful, and all the food was freshly brought in. We will definitely be returning!!! read more
