Prices are the most reasonable you will find anywhere else in SF, and the quality is impeccable. Right down the street there is a snooty coffee shop that will charge you three times what this place does for lower quality and less food. The donuts are always super fresh and soft and never stale. I try not to come often because as others have pointed out, it hurts my pockets. I now pay $7 for my bacon, egg croissantwich when I use to pay $4 for the same thing in San Ramon...guess thats what I get for moving to the city. :/ I dont know why ppl complain...I personally love my 'wich, YUMMY! They make my eggs just like i like it...if i could cook. To add to the holes in my pocket, I regularly get the rasberry truffle soy (but now they have almond milk!!) coffee...OR hehe the prepackaged coconut water. I always leave satisfied. Service is fast enough for me, I mean my gosh people they make everything as you order it! It is not premade. Ive also tried the cobb salad...DROOLL!!...but bacon everything is good. Ran in today because A) it was close and B) we were starved. So yeah it's not much from the outside, but the menu had lots of choices. I went for the classic Tuna melt, which consisted of toasted wheat, cheddar, lettuce and pickles oh and tuna. And it's a bit pricier than some places but I have to say it was a pretty tasty Tuna melt ( or I was damn hungry). No really it was a delicious sandwich and my girlfriend got a chicken with pesto, and sun dried tomatoes on a grilled panini. It looked fab, and was huge! So if your in the neighborhood, say like we were maybe at the Gift Center and need a quick tasty bite to eat....Caffe Moda will fit the bill. Super surprised to see a super clean cafe south of market. I mean, their employees are cleaning the blinds! Who does that anymore?! And I appreciate the stern bulldog... remember, it's south of market. How else would the cafe be so clean if she was a pushover?! #jussayin My husband and I quickly ran in as we were walking because we were hungry and normally sketch with little cafes in SOMA, but when we saw swiffer touch blinds, we were in. Hongha gets an extra star for being an engaged and courteous owner. Honestly, my review was skewed downward due to the annoyance of the Five Star promotional program sending me unsolicited text messages. In response to her question, I've had the Moda Lox bagel and the bacon egg and cheese, along with the Cuban panini -- all on separate occasions, of course. Again, it's a decent place -- clean, polite staff, good food, but not terribly unique, though it might be worth mentioning that if you're trying a case before the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit or doing business with the U.S. Government on 7th and Mission, this may very well be your BEST CHOICE for a reasonably priced meal in the neighborhood. I'll come in again, Hongha, and see if I can find that "go to order" on your menu that keeps me coming back over and over again and wins you that fifth star. read more

Strategic move. Recently relocated. They brought along their innovative menu and excellent sandwiches. But this is a rather desolate part of SoMa. Will they survive? Hopefully long enough for more people to discover the Chicken Tinga panini. A unique blend of shredded chicken, tomato, peach-mango salsa, and mustard on ciabatta. Worth seeking out. Service couldn't have been nicer. Especially when I spilled water all over the floor and they cleaned it up without losing their smile. Appreciate it. Perhaps Moda is one step ahead. Caffe Moda is my lunchtime catch all. When I'm going crazy in the office, busy as hell, and need a break in the sun, it's Moda time. When I've only got 5 Susan B Anthonies and some pocket lint for cash, it's Moda time. Soups: no. Salads: never tried. Sandwiches? Excellent, especially their specialty paninis. Chicken pesto is my absolute favorite. Even though I've had very average to even lackluster soups here, I've had really great paninis that wash over the soup experiences. However, I do have a bone to pick about the price for non-sandwich items... drinks here are ridiculously overpriced. "Where we going?", my lunchtime compatriots ask. "MODA", we all say in unison. Because, really, MODA is one of a handful of lunching establishments we alternate between every week. I probably would have given 4 stars, but took one off for price. If they lower their prices by about a dollar, then I'll add a star. They have very good tasting sandwiches, but be sure to order exactly what you want. I have a carnivorous friend who likes nothing on his Meatball Sub except for meatballs. No cheese, no lettuce. Well, when he unwrapped his sub, all there were were meatballs. No sauce at all. So he ordered meatballs and sauce the next time. I have not been so unlucky. My meatball subs have been fantastic on the Challah buns. I was also wowed by their Caesar Salad. I ordered the full one (cause the half-salad was only 1 dollar less) and asked for anchovies as a topping. Well, the damn salad weighed about 5 pounds when they were done with it with, I swear, a can of anchovies on the lettuce. Score! They're fast, and delicious. However, I guess they don't see a need to have a numbering system as they only yell out what you ordered once it's made. If you happen to have ordered the same thing as another person who you weeeere or were noooot sure was ahead of you, prepare for a pugilistic endeavor. read more

Ate lunch here between NERT training at the Federal Buildung. I am pescetarian and lactose intolerant, so I ordered a Noda Lox bagel without cream cheese. The salmon tasted very fresh, the onion bagel wash crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, and it was typed with a little onion and capers; wedge of lemon on the side. I was very happy to have just few, small slices of onion- many places way over do the onion. Also got an iced americano, which was a fine cup of coffee. Overall, I am very pleased - we even got a free cookie for spending over $8.50! Can't give 5 - stars as I have only visited once. 5 if they can do it awesome twice... : ) read more

If a $3 yogurt served in a salad dressing sized little container is your idea of a good breakfast, then this is the place for you! I ordered a "yogurt with probiotics" which to me sounded like it might have some kind of fruit or something added to it. Nope. It was Activia. And the serving portion was even less than what comes in your standard Activia cups you can buy at the grocery store. I felt robbed. I have been working in the city for 3 years and have come to expect higher-than-average pricing for food, but this was a complete joke to me. When they called out my order and I saw it sitting on the counter, I waited for the rest of it for a minute. OMG!! I was on vacation in SF and my boyfriend and I were walking by looking for coffee. So glad that we walked in to this place! I have been raving about the breakfast croissant and Mexican Banana spiced latte to my friends in LA. I moved into the area a month ago and stumbled upon this place one Sunday morning. Their salmon and cream cheese bagel sandwich was excellent and their coffee was great. Wow, I thought. I'll definitely go again. I've been trying to go for the past three Sundays without success. Their sign clearly states they close at 2:30 PM. I went at 2 two Sundays ago, 1:30 last Sunday, and they seem to have closed early both times. Today? I got there at noon, there was a sign on their door saying they're closed for the day. I visited this cafe twice, while staying at the hotel across the street. I loved the coffee and loved the breakfast sandwiches even more. For me, it's slightly over-priced, but it was worth it since it was so delicious! The convenience of it being so close, was also what made it perfect. Second time I have been here. The first time was horrible service. gave it another shot. I went in for coffee and paid for it only to find out that they ran out, someone let them know to make more coffee,wait we asked and the other person yelled it because they just didn't care when we directly asked one worker he just looked at us and remained cleaning the table, I told them my co worker and I were limited on time and asked if we could get a refund, they said it would take less than a minute to make. So we said ok, then I see her preparing a new brew of coffee, however for my coffee she placed hot water and threw in some instant coffee. Are you kiddin me? The coffee was so gross we did not even ask for a refund we just left. They suck at customer service and they never turn on the air condition. Its 80+ degrees in this place all the time. Had a short Vacation in San Francisco and I went here because it was near my hotel and I wanted a donut. When I came in I was greeted by a friendly family and a very cool lunch/breakfast menu. I got my donut, which was ultra fresh and also went with a Vietnamese sandwich which was amazing. I had to come a second time before my trip was over. Even better the second time. The cafe is around the corner of my home and I'm tempted to walk over to Cumaica instead. The neighborhood has many low income apartments for families surrounding the cafe and I feel $9 sandwiches and $4 espressos are a bit too much for I to be a casual spender. It's a very nice and quiet place to study or read a book. The breakfast menu is delicious, but rather expensive.The free wifi can be annoying at times and as most of my visits, it just wasn't as stable as I want it to be, but the people who work here are nice. read more

I reactivated my yelp account after years specifically to write this review. Do NOT get delivery from this place. They charge a 20% delivery fee, which I specifically verified with the driver they got as a tip. Fair enough. A 20% tip for delivery seems fine to me, so I didn't tip extra. The last time I ordered, they didn't have one of my items, and they made no effort to offer a substitute item, or take it off the bill. They called me and told me it was my job to cancel the order - I had ordered through an intermediary and they said they physically COULD NOT cancel the order. The last time I ordered, it just didn't come. It turns out, they were angry that I didn't tip MORE than 20%. And they didn't bother to tell me. The intermediary, the place they COULDN'T get in touch with? They got in touch with them, and canceled the order without contacting me. Both times I spoke with staff, they were extremely rude and did not explain why. I guess I didn't pick up their telepathy that they deserve more money. FYI, the food is already overpriced. . . . . Edit: of course, now the restaurant is falling all over itself to explain its policy, which I guess is not to pay their drivers a living wage and expect the customer to make it up by effectively paying a 40% tip. Nice attempt to discredit me simply because I was honest about my experience - I guess the fact that I was angry and complained is "graphic". Stay classy, guys. read more

This place is great especially for being one of those "cafe inside an office building", great sandwiches, fresh bread, and good salads. Particularly like their apple and brie on a baguette, and the "pierres favorite" which is black forest ham, sprouts, brie and honey mustard. read more

Place is terrible. Went in today for a quick breakfast stop and the lady in charge was so rude to her employees working there. She kept screaming at her staff and was super condescending. The breakfast was pretty darn good here too, but I will not ever be returning. She needs to learn how to be a better manager because if I were her staff I would have walked out had she talked to me like that.
