In researching places near where we were staying, we learned about the Italian deli and shop. We were looking forward to stopping by to check out the store and grab lunch. The store itself is very cute and charming, full of so many items - fresh meats and cheeses, imported olive oils, pastas, desserts, wine, and liquor to name a few. There is an area where you can get coffee drinks and there is a deli area for ordering sandwiches, pizzas, specialty dishes, and salads. The variety of options is plentiful. I ordered an iced coffee beverage, which was great. My significant other and I ordered a sandwich to go, which we were splitting for a light lunch back at the hotel. The person helping at the counter was not very friendly or helpful with questions. We asked for our sandwich to be made on the Dutch Crunch bread, as we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel, it turned out that the sandwich was made on a regular ciabatta roll, which was not fresh. Additionally, the sandwich was mostly mixed greens. For the price, I expected more meat. With so many great food options in San Francisco, it is likely we won't stop by on future visits to the City.

Portion size was perfect as well. The best sandwich I had in SF and one of the best sandwiches I've had anywhere. Service- I got here early as I knew the line would get long. Took about 30-40 min from start to eating my sandwich so not bad. Grab and go spot so there's no bathroom or really any seating. I found a bench down the block to eat. 10/10 experience- wish I grabbed a sticker or other merch!

I ordered the 49er and it just seemed like a greasy goopy mess. It felt like the bread congealed into a mushy paste due to all the dressing and wetness? Also my sandwich was 1000* even after walking back to my car and letting it cool with the wrapper off it was still way to hot to eat for a long while and burnt my mouth. Maybe they intentionally make them super hot to withstand long distance takeout deliveries... I dunno. Plus standing in a long line with a velvet rope baking in the sun, long wait, lack of parking, navigating skuzzy neighborhood to go there (literally saw a guy going #2 on the corner on my way out)... overall I wasn't that impressed with Deli Board compared to all the rave reviews I have heard over the years. SF lacks truly awesome sandwich places so I will give give this another shot and report back with updates, perhaps I hit it on an off day.

They're showing off their wares, flashing pristine teeth, and parading around in an endless convoy of BMWs, Mercedes, and Bentleys. It's a neighborhood where absolutely everything--from the cold-pressed juice to the real estate--has a heavy, unapologetic price tag associated with it. But we didn't come for the gloss. We came for soul. We came to find refuge in our ultimate comfort food at Lucca's Delicatessen. Walking through that door isn't just stepping into a shop; it's stepping into a Time Machine. My order never changes -- it's the Liverwurst on marble rye, dressed simply with a little tomato, mayo, and crisp lettuce. Yesterday, you might have been chasing whatever trendy sandwich they're slinging down at Lettuce, but today is about tradition. My wife goes for the Caprese sandwich with prosciutto--a beautiful, classic combination. For me, though, the magic happens on the very first bite. As soon as I crunch into that rye, the Marina melts away. I am a five-year-old boy again, sitting down with my mother at a long-lost lunch counter, just purely enjoying life. My wife knows this ritual; she sees the look on my face and she approves. That right there is the exact reason we come here. It's why we are willing to stand crammed together in that inhospitable, notoriously narrow line that hungry San Franciscans have been enduring since 1929. Dear God, think about that: it has been almost a century in existence. If you haven't tried it, maybe you should. Take a break from the shiny facade outside, step into the narrow line, and order something real. It will become a part of your DNA, just like it has permanently become a part of mine.
