Place is terrible. Went in today for a quick breakfast stop and the lady in charge was so rude to her employees working there. She kept screaming at her staff and was super condescending. The breakfast was pretty darn good here too, but I will not ever be returning. She needs to learn how to be a better manager because if I were her staff I would have walked out had she talked to me like that. Another customer even nudged me and told me that this is not the way to start off a morning. I was horrified at the way she talked down to her employees. read more

Would like it give this restaurant a fare rating but could barley get in the door to check it out. Had read other reviews about the restaurant closing early but felt since it was Sunday they gotta be open. Walked in on a Sunday morning, 10:30am, and was quickly told that they were closed by a rude worker. There were other people in the restaurant and some were waiting to pay. If there's only a negative scale for the review ++++++++ Went here this morning for full breakfast as the one provided in my hotel is not sufficient enough for my morning. I understand that small businesses sometimes will get the challenge of accommodating a sudden surge of customers especially if you're offering is the most affordable (supposedly) around the area. But at least be respectful of your customer's time to honor who comes/orders first regardless and most importantly dont be an asshole if someone calls it out as they have priorities as well, just like everybody else! At least make the effort of making up and FUCKING APOLOGIZE and not try to get back! So this Friday morning seemed to be a bit of challenge for this store as two or three groups of customers just stepped in and obviously rattled the only person manning the store - taking orders and supposedly making them and serving them. I mean, being almost next door to a couple of hotels in SF and being here I suppose for a long time the owner/she or whoever should know better especially during this hour. What happened was my order was simply pushed back more than several times as 4 couples after me were served and finished their meal and my order is still not being prepped! Adding that she is more focusing on prepping the orders of those 3 groups than starting to do mine. Hey, I've been patient and considerate but this is now something else! I walked up to her and followed up my order and she responded pissed as hell and just offered to give my money back! No apologies nor what just - ok, here's you're money and go away thing! So I said okay. She went back to the cash drawer and after realizing that I paid via debit not wanting to do a reverse charge as she is obviously short for time she reverted and said is - "Is this your order? Ok! sit down and I'll call you!" I was like what the fuck is wrong with you - such a moron! Anyways, that would be the last I'll be stepping foot in that shit hole. Clean....good...kinda pricey for what they offer though.

this place is WAYYYYYY over priced. sucks that its one of a handful of places near by to eat. therefore i just walk to trader joes.... its WAY more worth it. i spent $4 for pom tea, and 1.20 for a tiny bag of pretzels. i feel so ripped off. i will only come here in desperation for a quick snack if i have only 5 mins or less to spare... better yet...... i would rather go to starbucks across the street instead. no stamp of approval here. read more

I have literally had many a sandwich here in my short stint working in the city. This place was on the bottom floor of the building in which I worked in, so it was good for a quick bite. I always got something with turkey bacon and avocado. Who can go wrong with that combo??? The food was alright, they had a variety of drinks. Sandwich meat was sometimes dry, but all in all good quick eats. But the best thing is... they stock up on Pom Tea! Yay a place with class I dare say. read more

Nice weekday lunch spot. I always enjoy their tuna salad sandwiches sometimes on ciabatta and sometimes a baguette. I wanted to try something different since my usual place was super packed. Now i know why this place is never crowded during lunch. I'd rather wait in line at my regular place (cafe pazzo) than come here again. The food was not tasty at all and I felt like I wasted my $ and stomach space. A bit pricey, but it is to be expected in order to keep the riffraff away. The staff is exceptionally nice and the menu items aren't too shabby either. So far, I've tried the coffee, turkey breakfast sandwich, the smoothies and one of the muffins. The blueberry muffin was amazing. I had it the following day and was surprised how well it kept overnight. This is now my regular cafe spot during the work week (sorry 98 Cafe and Lunchstop and M Cafe). The only problem I have with this place is that it closes at 3pm. That said, they let me stay while they cleaned so that is a subtle victory. read more

The food and service were so good! We were looking for a quick place to eat breakfast during our vacation and ended up eating breakfast (and lunch once) at Caffe Moda every day. We loved the breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. You HAVE to get their fresh squeezed orange juice. The gentleman literally threw a bunch of oranges in a blender. So FANTASTIC! read more

I decided to try out Caffe Moda because it is close to where I currently work. Place was empty today at about 1:45pm. I ordered a reuben sandwich and it was just too over priced at $6.95. It tasted and looked the same as if I made it home myself and the portion of the meat was very little. I ended up going back to the cafeteria at my office to get more food because I was still hungry after the reuben sandwich. There is free wireless internet there so I'll give them a Star for that. read more

The people who work here rock! I come at least 2 x a week for lunch as there are not a lot of lunch options nearby. The specials are good. You get chips, soda, half sandwich and a small salad for under $10. Try the greek sandwich. They also have killer smoothies. read more

We ordered breakfast for our family as it was close to the hotel. The amount was small but the price was high. The food was not fresh. The eggs were stale. Possibly the worst breakfast place in the SoMa area. But more costly than others. Go to the other ones nearby. This place should not be in business. read more

Quick but expensive for lunch. And while the sandwiches are really good (turkey!) there have a paltry amount of lettuce and tomato. I believe they have Katz bagels so I often trek down here to avoid the dinner rolls with holes from Noah's at my office spot. and a HUGE drink selection- for those of us loath enough to work in the only black hole in SF with NO convenience store. read more

I stopped in here today because I saw that it had free wifi, and I had to kill two hours between meetings in the City. I was incredibly happy with my experience! I had the Greek Salad and a small Milano Mocha. The salad was really fresh and just about as good as a Greek Salad can get. The Milano Mocha though...I am not kidding, it was one of the best coffee drinks I have ever bought. It was rich, creamy, smooth, and gone way too fast. Caffe Moda caters to the morning and lunch working crowd; not open on weekends or at night. If you work in the area, or just happen to be in the area and want a nice lunch, Caffe Moda is a great option. They're not expensive, and the food is quite good. My favorites are the morning sausage, egg, and cheese bagels, and for lunch the caesar salad with some additional grilled chicken is a must; I am very picky about caesar salads and many restaurants get it wrong - including some high-end places. Moda nails it perfectly. Aside from the salad, they have a huge selection of sandwiches and other items to choose from on their very long list of menu items. Another fav of mine is the grilled chicken sandwich (with a little avocado added) on a focaccia roll. Quite satisfying. Most of the staff there have been at Caffe Moda for many, many years, and are quite friendly. They're the kind of people that will remember you and what your regular orders are after a few visits. I hate the 5-star system of rating because, of course, "as good as it gets" means different things to different people. So, let me clarify: for what it is - a cafe catering to the working set, this is as good as it gets. Slanted Door or Ruth Chriss Steakhouse it is not. But, for the kind of place to grab an inexpensive but nice sandwich or salad, especially for the working crowd looking for a bit of variety in the daily routine, Caffe Moda is just the ticket. read more

As mentioned in a place of limited options, this place is so-so. The staff are great.... no doubt. The soup I have tried was bland and not good. The sandwich specialties are great, but you just dont seem to get enough. FOr the money, I would be expecting a wee bit more banf (or bite) for my buck. The resturant wasn't too busy so I was helped immediately. There was open tables, with places for a computer or phone charger. I ordered waffles, potatoes and bacon for 12$. It came with coffee and an orange juice. I was a little disappointed when I saw it was only a half waffle, the size of the orange juice was a shot glass and potatoes were a little cold. None the less, the food was great, good price and coffee was French roast. The food only took 5 minutes to make and after I was done, they picked up my dishes from the table. The worker was polite. The had the TV on the news and the volume was loud enough for everyone to hear. A great plus for me since I arrive at 9:30am. All and all. I would come again, just expect the portions to be on the smaller size. read more

Been meaning to try this place out so came in because my usual go-to sandwich place is closed on Sundays. Selection was decent. Staff, however, was apathetic and inattentive. Had to ask where to place my order. When I did I was told I had to wait for the other staff person to get off the phone. That took a while. When she did get off the phone, she took my order and I had to repeat 3 times that I wanted it to go. Sandwich was close to $9 with tax. When I opened it up I discovered it was lettuce, 2 pickles, meat, and two American cheese slices on wonderbread. Ordinarily I wouldn't care that much, but for $9 I would expect ingredients slightly nicer than what I can buy at the supermarket. For $10-15 in the same neighborhood you can buy sandwiches from Rye Project, Deli Board, or Machine -- all of which are about a billion times nicer. Not impressed. read more

Giving it two stars only because the coffee is not too bad for the price..However, after I have ordered my coffee "to go" I was asked to leave, and was denied access to their wi-fi, that I have always used at all other cafes of the world I had been to. The lady at the register said, that because I did not pay the city tax, when buying coffee, she said she could not let me stay inside... As far as I understood her, the city of San Francisco wont consider it lawful, if a person stays inside a cafe and surfs the web, while drinking his coffee, unless he pays the tax.... This whole situation made me think, that the folks at the Cafe Moda don't care so much about people.... It is so unlike California, or anywhere else in America...I will never go there again. read more

I head here for lunch about 1-2 times a week, and the fact that it doesn't seem to get old says a lot. The huge selection of drinks, chips, and sandwiches combine to make a rotating menu that never gets old. On top of that, the staff is super nice, and uber efficient. Sometimes the line can be lengthy, but it usually blows by pretty quickly. Highly recommended if you work in the neighborhood. read more

The Mexican mocha is fantastic! Strong but not overpowering cinnamon flavor and not too sweet. Their Mexican panini has a good flavor palate not usually seen in a panini form... delicious shredded pork! Highly recommend. read more
