Really wanted to love this place and give it at least 4 stars - but more like 3.5 stars. it was good, just not great. Was looking for a spot that served homemade pasta and was open for lunch on the weekend. Plenty of parking and the atmosphere is very quaint and romantic so it would be good for a date night. The place opens at 1130 on Saturdays, so reservations were made for 1130. We were the first customers to arrive to the restaurant and were seated promptly. We were told by the server (forgot her name but she was very sweet and very new) that it would just be her until the bartender gets there after 12.....umm if you open at 1130, you should have a bartender there at 1130...so she could offer beer and wine until then, hmm... We ordered appetizers and entrees. Shortly our drinks came - and yes accidents do happen but our server spilled a glass of beer on my sister. I don't blame her completely, I think it was a lot for only her to handle everyone until more people came in to help. All in all, food was ok, fave app was calamari, least favorite was stuffed mushrooms - I was little disappointed in my chicken parm. It was just ok - I ordered it with pink vodka, should've stuck with red sauce. I love me a good pink sauce, this one was just ok - it was much creamier than I'm used to and they didn't really put a lot of sauce on the dish itself but it had a thick coating of cheese on the chicken. I took a bite from other dishes and def liked them better than mine. I opted to get fresh pasta and my entire dish in the pink sauce, didn't realize the uncharges until after we left, it was about $10 ($4 for the pasta and I take it $6 for the sauce?) more than the selling price of my actual chicken parm price tag making it $37...... Also just note that there is a cake cutting fee ($1.70 pp). As we continued to dine, the place started to fill up more. I am not against coming back but would opt to try other dishes. read more

Cafe Itri, has been newly purchased and renamed Cafe Rose. It has been remodeled and is quite lovely. It was a quiet weeknight evening in the restaurant and understandable due to the recent snowstorm. The menu has changed with some favorites no longer there and some new dishes added. Prices ae higher than those on the previous menu. As an appetizer we shared a small tasty thin grilled pizza margherita. Our entrees for our party of 3 included veal Itri Piccata: Prosciutto, capers, and black olives with a white wine, lemon butter sauce, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes and green beans; Penne Fagioli: Penne pasta, cannellini beans, prosciutto, garlic, celery hearts, San Marzano tomatoes and grated Pecorino Romano cheese and, thirdly Breaded, pan-fried, eggplant parmigiano topped with mozzarella, and baked in a tomato basil sauce with penne pasta. The only dish which was not pleasing was the Penne Fagioli as it was extremely peppery. Service by Layla was excellent as she was efficient, informative and so very pleasant. Apps were really good, we ordered the calamari and the stuffed artichoke. We really liked them both. I had chicken and portobello mushrooms, my husband had the eggplant Parmesan. Both were pretty good; my husband's eggplant was a little mushy. Service started off great but then we were waiting quite a bit for boxes and our bill. Still an enjoyable night. read more

The atmosphere is nice, it presents very upscale. The food was good and most of us left with leftovers. We had no complaints but feel there are other places we would go for the price. The location is perfect in the center of Cranston, especially during the St. Mary's Feast. Service was good, our waiter was attentive and water was consistently refilled. read more

It's not closed...just under new ownership. Sorry to say...it's just not the same. Drinks were fine, but the food (which was always the calling card over the many years of patronage) is just not the same. Classic dishes (the ones you have ordered forever) have changed, and not for the better. Not to be too pretentious, but the silverware feels like something out of your middle school cafeteria. Hard to take things seriously with a $2 mess-kit issue service. Hoping they can pull it together. This is such a big piece of the community. read more

My family and I went here for a family outing, the atmosphere was nice, very old school Italian style. We got 3 apps, calamari, eggplant rolletini, and egg rolls. All three apps missed the mark on flavor, they were all very bland. Our food was underwhelming to be honest. My son's meatball was strange tasting. He ordered pasta and meatballs with light sauce. When it came out, it wasn't light sauce at all. Visually it looked good, but again that meatball - Food was ok, service was ok. Lots of people helping each table, but staff seemed very busy and a bit stressed. Don't order tap water as it is metallic tasting. Overall I am underwhelmed. I have been here before so maybe it was an off night. Manager did come and ask how the food was and we told them about meatball. She offered to have it made again but at that point we were all set. read more

The food here is really good full of flavor and nicely made. But the service was definitely on the slower side. Our waitress wasn't very attentive, and I actually had to ask other servers to get her attention a few times. She was also bartending, so I get she was probably stretched thin, but it did make the experience a bit frustrating. The calamari was overcooked, but honestly still tasty. I'd come back again because the food was worth it,just hoping next time we get a more attentive wait staff to match the quality of the food. read more

Walked out after 1 hr 40 mins after no food was served. This was for a 5 PM seating for 4 people today. At least two more tables walked out along with us. The table to the table left of us was waiting for a beer for 30 mins and a check for 20 mins. Their food didn't taste good and was cold. The table to the right of us had an earlier seating and were still waiting for their entrees. Incredibly unfortunate and disappointing night. read more

Caffe Itri has been consistently good over time and has held prices relatively in check. A friend asked me recently where I'd have my last meal, it would be a vodka martini, truffle burrata, glass of wine from the NitroTap system (and they won a Wine Spectator award for their wine list), Veal Parmigiana, and Tiramisu at Caffe Itri. Just can't go wrong, they do have some unique takes on the menu items like their gnocci has italian sausage in it, the squid ink pasta comes with shrimp. It's cozy and the service is consistent. Just beware as they can get some big groups and the lower level (the old remodeled bar) can get noisy - so try to sit in the new bar or by the wine system. We have been to Cafe Itri many times . It has always been a great experience. Until last night that is. Aside from the young Lady who served us and a couple of other staff members the experience was disappointing. Apparently they recently were acquired by a business minded person rather than a person who has a passion for fine dining. The food was just ok and certainly not worth the inflated prices. My Salmon dish was healthy however very bland. We may try again in the spring or summer but not before hearing from others who dine there between now and then . Absolutely terrible! Used to love Cafe Itri but I have no idea what I had tonight. The martini I ordered was obviously watered down. You could get a better quality balsamic vinegar at job lot.. The chicken piccata was not chicken piccata and the sword fish made absolutely no sense with the seasoning. Was given two salad spoons for dinner. I would consider Olive Garden a step up. read more

This place is huge now and a world different from the smaller Caffe Itri years ago. We miss how tiny and intimate it was...with the giant photo of Itri, where most patrons families derive from next to the table and lots of green and a look back into the spotless kitchen. The quality of this place and the good service has remained though. If you want real Italian, stuff much better than what you find on the hill, give this place a shot. Not the most legit Italian dish but we love the pink vodka. The gnocchi gorgonzola knocks it out of the park, try this is you can only pick one dish. Fusilli chicken asparagus yum. Any of the veals, delish. One star is off since the prices are so much higher now and portions are smaller than before (I get it, the economy) but it means I probably would go to Al Forno or Capriccio now instead given this rate. read more

The manager Shane was super friendly and the cook even came out and introduced himself. My kids loved the meatballs and pasta and they are super picky. One star is one too many. Cannot review what you cannot experience. My wife called about 10 days ago and made a reservation for four. When we arrived, the only people in the restaurant were contractors tearing up the floor and doing renovations. Not open for business. No telephone call. We also checked their website and there was nothing to indicate the restaurant was closed for renovations. We ended going to Cucina Rustica, 555 Atwood Avenue, Cranston. Glad we did. The veal was overcooked both times and the pasta was served cold. The bartender/waitress was curt, inattentive, and unfriendly. We celebrated my wife's birthday at CafeItri last night, a party of 7. This was our first time at this restaurant and it was beyond expectations. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and very appealing. The food was outstanding. We loved the calamari, stuffed artichoke hearts, and eggplant rollitini. The Italian egg rolls were just ok. Everyone enjoyed their main dishes which would take too long to critique. Overall, everyone stated how good the food was. We will definitely be back. Our last few family dinners eating out have been on Federal Hill. CafeItri was far better than any we have tried over the past few months. read more

Ending one of my best food years with one of if not the worst meal on 2023. We got take out. Chicken Parm, Veal Parm, Stuffed Artichokes, Eggrolls. Pasta was over cooked-the artichokes were just sad, sad, sad. Cooking my chicken now because the cheese wasnt melted. In an area so densely populated with Italian restaurants, this would be my last pick. Let's just say we're very glad we had a gift card-$85 for nothing. We really like this restaurant the atmosphere is very nice and service is good as well however.... This is the first time we have been under the new ownership the veal Marsala had no Marsala wine, I had chicken fussili was supposed to have asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes and the pasta was so overcooked it looked liked mashed potatoes. My son had the veal chop it was smothered with a weird tasting red sauce it was awful. The only thing we had that was good was the snail salad. We will never go back. read more

We used to be big fans but recently we were made to feel taken advantage of and misled. We placed an order over the phone for 2 simple dishes, chicken parm & a side of pasta for our 3 year old daughter. The woman on the phone asked us "what kind of sauce would you like with your chicken parm?" And listed our options (red, pink, or Alfredo) she then asked us to decide on a pasta choice with another list of options. She did the same for our half order of pasta that was meant to be a kids meal because they don't have a kids menu... turns out all of these "options" were not options but upsells with zero indication they'd be an additional charge. Without her prompting us to "make a choice" we would have left it at "an order of chicken parm" which is what we initially asked for so it feels very purposeful and icky on the businesses part. Our total for 1 order of chicken parm and a side of pasta came to about $60 with all the up charges they added to our bill and I was so flabbergasted when my husband got home after picking up our take out and handed me the receipt. Neither of us could believe the prices and especially because it was pushed on us as "choices to make". The food itself is good but for those prices and shady business practices we will not be back. read more

This was a horrible dining experience. I had been coming to Caffe Itri for over ten years with my family. It was always our go-to for family and friend get togethers, date nights, and holidays. Prior to tonight, we had been to Itri for countless holidays before. Unfortunately, tonight will be the last. We were seated right away, which was great. However, the two-tops were so close together that it felt like you were sitting on top of the tables sitting closest to you. The busser brought us a bread basket and the focaccia was stale. Then, we waited twenty minutes before our server came to take our order. Mind you, she was only server working in a room of 16 two-tops. Not her fault, but definitely management's. My husband and I placed our order for drinks, apps, and entrees when she finally came to our table. We waited another half hour for his drink to arrive. And then, an hour and fifteen minutes passed and still no food. We were so hungry that we requested another basket of bread and even that was ignored. There was maybe one busser in that room; so again, management's fault. My husband called the manager over to ask why the two tables who were seated after us already had their appetizers and we were still waiting. He said he would check on our food and it took another fifteen minutes before anyone came back to our table. At this point, we were ready to leave but held out a bit longer because they were so busy and short-staffed. When the server finally brought us our food, it was our entrees, not our appetizers. The manager told us he would check on the two apps we ordered, and we said just to box them to go at this point, rather than eat them after our entrees. My husband could barely slice into his Al Sambuca, and when he did, he cut about two inches of fat off the ends. Finally, we asked for the manager again since his meal was inedible and said we just wanted to leave. The manager was polite and explained that they were overbooked tonight and we agreed that was clear. We offered to pay for my husband's drink and my entree, and the manager offered him another drink, which we said was not necessary. We didn't want to be waiting another hour for it. I was honestly expecting the manager to comp our whole meal but he was more than eager to accept my husband's offer to pay for the drink and one entree that was edible. After he took our card, it was another ten minutes before he came back. We had high hopes that it would still maintain its quality of food and service after the name change, but I am so disappointed in Itri. What used to be a Cranston staple transformed into a disaster experience. I'd love to say we'll give it one more chance, but I am hesitant to dine there again after tonight's experience. read more

After the recent acquisition, there were some noticeable challenges with service and consistency, but they have completely turned things around. The food is excellent, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere feels inviting again. I highly recommend giving them another try. No words can do Justice to what we and at least 6-7 other tables experienced last night. Seated at a tiny end table for 2 backing up to the bar at 8:15PM. Waitress finally comes over at 8:35 to take the drink and food order all at once. 20 minutes after being seated. We get water but no bread. Flag down another server for bread after about another 15 minutes. Still no drink but at least we have bread and water. No oil or butter with it. Chaos all around waitress and waitstaff. Bar could not get drinks out. We didn't get our drink order for over 1 hour. No lime in drink as ordered but hey at least there is a drink now. No signs of appetizer or entree. Now into 1.5 hours - 2 hours after seating, 5-6 separate parties got up and left!!! Valentines Day with reservation. Going home after 1.5-2 hours plus without a meal!! Have never seen anything like this before. Thought it was a SNL skit or was being punked. Table next to us left and went to go get pizza. Tried to get ETA on food order and waitress says no idea and was trying to get us to leave as well. We flag down a manager who says he pulled our ticket and would put it at the top. We are 3 hours plus into this now. Bar was there so got up from table to get another drink. Finally at 11:01 PM the order came out! How we hung in to wait for the meal I have no idea but it became a challenge at that point and meal was meh. Within 15 minutes we left. Again, words do not do Justice to this abomination of an experience. Ruined Valentines Day for many, many people. Embarrassing, rude, disrespectful and didn't seem to care. They did comp quite a bit and there were some good people that did seem to care. Hope they can turn it around because this used to be a great place. Owners need to do some serious soul searching on how this place is being operated in all areas. read more
