Ordered a to-go order of the chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, naan and raita (yogurt dip). All were absolutely delicious! It came with a large dish of white rice. At first I thought the to-go containers were very small for a $12 and $16 dish, but once we plated it, my boyfriend and I had more than enough for dinner and even some left over for lunch the next day. Bottom Line: Clean, casual, BYOB, featuring an extensive menu of what appeared to be authentic indian cuisine. I've never been a big fan of indian food, because when it's not good, it's really not good, but this place is quickly making me change my opinion of the whole cuisine. My only knock is ( and I never thought I would say this), I could have used some more heat....and the chicken was a hair overdone. Go there, push around some naan and have some fun. Highlights We ordered the following: *Shrimp Shahi Korma Large pieces of shrimp soaked in mild curries softened by a yogurt based sauce.I was expecting heat, and honestly I think they were taking it easy on me. It was delicious, and I would certainly consider it a highlight. *Chicken Saag Boneless chicken pieces sauteed with spinach and enhanced with mild Indian spices. It's like steakhouse creamed spinach with chicken and indian herbs. Delicious! *Chicken Tikka Masala Tender boneless chunks of chicken, broiled in the Tandoor, then cooked in a rich tomato, onion and butter sauce. *Dhabha Lamb Lamb cubes prepared in the Tandoor, seasoned in the traditional style in a saucepan.Tender and juicy, flavorful, could have used some heat Warm naan, both plain and garlic, were a perfect accompanyment to sop up all that delicious indiany goodness. By far this is the best Indian food in the area (so far). I have been to at least 4 others and this one really takes the cake for their food. Its hard to know where to even start so I am going to start with the Lasse; Each flavor (sweet, mango, unsweet, and rose) tastes great. My new favorite is the rose flavored, I want one now as I talk about it. The naan is probably the best I have tasted anywhere. I have lived in 15 different states and I go to Indian restaurants semi often and the naan is just so fresh and scrumptious. If you are a garlic lover you must try the garlic naan. There is a variety of vegetarian and non veg dishes. My new favorite is the Shahi Paneer which is cheese cubes in a yogurt sauce. You can vary the spiciness of any dish and the staff will handle most requests for changes you have. I have had chicken, lamb and a few other dishes and again, nothing but superb. The atmosphere is ok in this place. The inside is filled with paintings of Indian deity and other paintings. The restaurant has a higher scale mood, but it is not actually the case. Someone comes to pour you water every time it gets near empty and the waiters are receptive to your needs even before you ask. All in all if you like Indian food or if this is your first taste I would recommend trying Cafe India. Be careful though if you come here you will think all other Indian restaurants are just not up to par. read more

The food was straight from CANs and bottles. They over-charge - check your check with the menu prices. Drink: 1. Pina Colada For starter/ appetizers: 1. Tomato Soup 2. Paneer Tikka (I ordered this from main course as all their appetizers are deep fried items, which are not so good for my arteries) Main course: 1. Bhindi Masala 2. Malai Kofta Review: *Pina Colada: It was like drinking a milk shake with shredded coconut in it, and some pineapple essence. Seriously...it wasn't worth $3.95. *Tomato Soup: This was tomato puree straight out of can - they heated, or I must say overheated it in microwave that it almost burned my mouth. The smell of preservatives was all over the place. Tomato soup at a $$ place should have atleast some cream in it - this was just tomato puree that could not be prepared with condiments on dinner table. *Paneer Tikka: This was the best dish. At least Paneer was fresh and the marination sauce was good. 1 star in rating is for that. Ordering this was probably the best decisions I made that night. *Bhindi Masala: It was more of bell pepper than bhindi (okra). Tasted ok. *Malai Kofta: I can guarantee that Kota balls were not fresh. Their outer skin was so rubbery, it made it difficult to eat with naan/ roti. The gravy itself was tasteless. Conditments: The green chutney they served on table was tasteless, and had no flavor to it. Usually, at any Indian restaurant they will serve mint chutney, but this was straight out of bottle and watery. There was no consistency or flavor to it. Service & Decor: Service was so-so. The server over charged me and I showed him the price on his own menu, and he offered to correct it. Ah no, you are caught and you can imagine the look on his face. Decor is dark and dingy. No air flow in restaurant (may be they didn't turn on their air-conditioning) and it felt like choking after an hour. They may be overcharging customers as who hardly remembers the price and checks against menu. A few disclaimers: 1. I am a vegetarian 2. I dared to go to a Indian restaurant on weekday for dinner 3. I am Indian - so know Indian food *I believe people should go to such Indian restaurants only on weekends when they are busy and chefs are forced to prepare fresh food. This was probably the most horrible food experience of my life for a restaurant which is rated so high in Yelp's rating. I am really surprised on how this restaurant has such a high rating. read more

Despite being there at peak lunch hours, we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was nearly tasteless, the décor was outdated, and the restaurant did not feel clean. I really enjoyed my meal and have no trouble giving this 5 stars. What a great place! It's easy to pass by on the street as it's located in a nondescript strip on Washington Street. The inside decor is pleasant but nothing too special. However the service and the food were absolutely outstanding. I'm a big fan of Indian food. I think Cafe India can hold it's own against the best out there. The way the chef used the spices was very skillful, you got the flavor without being overpowered. We had a nice assortment from the menu and everything was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and it's a BYOB. First, a word of advice for anyone viewing reviews of Indian restaurants...watch out for reviews like this: "OMG the chicken tikka masala was AMAZING" WELL WE'VE GOT THE NOT-SO-SKINNY! Reviews are typically written by people thrilled simply by the novelty of visiting an Indian restaurant instead of Applebee's (and they are very vocal about displaying this self-congratulations...MIGHT I ADD). The intrinsic depths of flavors or level of cookery that goes in to traditional Indian cooking (BTW, Tikka Masala was originally conceived in Scotland by a Pakistani chef) are ignored. In their mind they'd rather have chicken with their cream instead of cream with their chicken. Anyway, tonight two of my friends and I visited Caffe India. We ordered some kind of combination dinner catastrophe including soup, cubes of meat submerged in *sugary* yellow? cream, and some grilled sausage patties (Seekh kebab). Pros: The cubes of meat in the yogurt sauce were fine Cons: The tables were too small. (Consider the clientele!) The mulligatawny soup tasted like lucky charms (we renamed it "Mulligatawdry"- and there's NO GOLD AT THE END OF THIS RAINBOW!), the Seekh kebab tasted like one of the breakfast patties you get from McDonalds :O Also the waiters constantly asked if we wanted to order more things. This place used to be good, but I suspect that they started to realize they could pass off scraps of meat submerged in milk to the "Single and Sexies" in Morristown and started lowering the quality of the food while increasing the prices! i just relocated to the area. my temporary corporate housing is only blocks form Caffe India. my first night in, i walked on up and got the veggie sampler as take out... upon returning home and venturing into my feast, i was stunned... the amount of food i received for a bout $20 was astounding! i had enough to manage maybe 4 meals for, say a normal person.... being the indian freak i am, i devoured it in two sits. that said, the food was STELLAR.... being new to the suburbs of new jersey, i was not optimistic.... Caffe India forced every preconceived notion i have ever had right outta my mind. i would love to go again and eat in... once i have local friends... or visitors from the bay... love the place. and will definately stop in for take away after a long day at the office and an even longer seeming commute from manhattan. go. go. go. to caffe india... you won't be disappointed. read more

This is my favorite Indian place outside of Jersey City! We went on a Sunday evening and it was their first Sunday that they were open. The food was unbelievable! I got a lamb special and my husband got Lamb Vindaloo. We also got the naan. I would highly recommend trying whatever they have on special as I have full confidence that they know what's best. They also served us some mango pudding just to show it to us, we hadn't ordered any dessert. The people that own it are gracious hosts and the service was very good. Picked up tandoori salmon and chicken tikka masala. The salmon was perfect! Still tender and juicy and great flavor. Next time I won't hesitate when asked if I want mild or spicy. While the flavors were spot on, my hesitation may have prompted the maitre d' to order mild when I really was looking for some good heat. The free sample of rice pudding certainly was smart. Came in here for the first time on Saturday night with a friend who is relatively new to Indian food. We were not disappointed. Diverse menu of Indian standards and a few less common dishes, including plenty of vegetarian options. The food was good, and they were all too happy to bring hot sauce on the side. Unlike many Indian restaurants, the decor here is nice and clean, without being too tacky or dated. Not too noisy either so it's perfect for a casual evening. And the prices are good too, averaging about $20/person for appetizer, entree and naan. As others have mentioned the service was excellent! Our servers were attentive with the water and asking if we needed anything else. What I really appreciated was they didn't rush us. We had as much time as we needed/wanted to savor our food. It's BYOB so come prepared if you want alcohol - there is a liquor store next door. When it came time to leave, they packaged up our leftovers, giving us extra rice, and let us linger. I needed Indian food one day. I wasn't even sure at the time if I liked Indian food (but lets be serious, I like everything). We went to Caffe India on a Friday night and it was much more busy than we would have expected. The decor is that of a typical Indian restaurant- elephants and gold meets NJ diner, but it was super clean. Not wanting to do any deciding, we ordered the Combination Special for Two- less than $45 if I can remember correctly. The server asked us how spicy we wanted our dishes and I think he got the hint since we started practically drooling when we both said- very, very, spicy. The best Indian food I've ever had in my life! This was the 1st place I had ever had Indian food, probably 15 years ago. I expected other Indian restaurants to be as good and I have yet to find a place that makes food as kick-ass as this place. Love the Naan and condiments. Had the combination dinner for 2 which included Mulligatawny soup, papadum, seekh kebab, malai kebab, chicken tikka, lamb rogan josh, vegetable korma, rice and naan bread. The Mulligatawny soup which was very good with fresh cilantro and a fresh lemon slice topped it off. Everything was very good and the korma was especially good. Service was OK. Caffe India is seriously my favorite. I grew up coming here (when it was Chand Palace, before it had moved) and as an adult, it has been my go-to place for Indian take out.
