We've heard such great things about this place and decided it was about time to check it out for dinner. It's BYOB and as we got seated they served us water, brought us wine glasses and opened our bottle of wine. Service was top notch and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. The food was delicious. Our table ordered a variety of chicken and lamb dishes and each one had a unique flavor. Wow! If you're an American with a craving for some authentic Indian cuisine (authentic from our perspective) this is the place. Will treat you like royalty and the food is artwork - very colorful presentation and so very delicious. Its always hard to rate Indian food in America ./ without sounding like a snob you just cant be the good old English curries. However that being said I am always down for one and especially when I get together with an old English pal , hence Morristown. This place is pretty traditional in décor , but wait its BYOB , boom ! We crack open out beers knowing its gonna be a cheap evening . Ordered the onion bhaji to start which was pretty dam good and a hefty portion . For entrees we shared a chicken tikka masala and lamb passanda . Both were great and cooked perfectly . no complaints .. Great atmosphere and great employees! I recently went on a Saturday afternoon for a lunch buffet and at only $10 per person it was excellent. Five or six different dishes to choose from and since my grandmother can't eat spicy food, they actually made her a special little plate of chicken tiki masala and didn't charge extra for it! Very disappointed in this place..... I've definitely had much better. We had samosas, they were ok... nothing special. The Lamb Rogan Josh was unnaturally thick, like it was thickened with guar gum or cornstarch... and not cream. The lamb was tender but kind of dry. The Biyrani was average... I can make better biyrani. Bottom-line, it's cheap and it's fine if you're hungry and craving Indian.... and you have no other choices :) read more

Quality is way down, i ask for indian spicy, feels pretty mild. You know why it gets 2 stars even though ive been here a few times? Whole foods just opened up this week, they have indian at their buffet selection that is as good. And trust me the whole foods indian only passes as decent, but its cheaper than this over priced placed! Yes, can you beleive that? I've had chicken tikka masala at many places and never have I been given anything this bad. There was a few pieces of chicken sitting in an extra watery orange sauce with a thick layer of oil on top. It tasted as bad as it looked and our order came with one serving of rice to share even though we ordered two dishes. I can't believe I love Indian food now. How did this happen? A year ago, if you'd suggested we get Indian for dinner I would have laughed in your face, insulted your mother, and set you on fire. But I guess my tastes and my temperament have changed because, um, yum! The fiancée and I went to Caffe India on Saturday evening and it was delightful. It's a very pleasing restaurant. The booths are comfortable and the general mood/feel of the place is reserved. The waiters and hostess are all friendly. Though they didn't speak to us much, they smiled a lot and our water glasses were never empty, which is always a necessity when chowing on some hot Indian spices. We had the chicken tikka masala, rogan josh, daal makhani, and garlic naan. The portions were not as big as the two other Indian restaurants I've been to, but I was glad for it. Smaller portions here mean you must savor the limited flavors all the more. The chicken tikka masala was cooked well in the tandoor oven and the medium spice had an alarming but joyous kick to it. The rogan josh (lamb) was a venture on my part. So glad I sallied forth! The lamb chunks are "marinated in Eastern spices, and sautéed with chopped tomatoes in a creamy sauce." This sauce is unbelievable. The fiancée heartily agreed that the sauce that comes with the rogan josh is worth the trip to Caffe India alone. The daal makhani and garlic naan were excellent as well and when everything is mixed together with the delicious rice, well, you just gotta enjoy. The food did take a little longer than we expected for it to come out but it was nothing worth complaining about. We were both just so hungry going in that it probably felt longer than it actually was. Caffe India also has a lunch buffet and some day soon, I'm totally gonna hit that! I was very happy I came here. The service was very good and friendly. The menu items are the typical Indian Fare, but with some extra touches. The portions on the cucumber sauce and chutney that they give you with your meal were larger, There was also a single tomato and some fresh herbs sprinkled on my Saag Paneer (cheese cubes in spinach). The naan was fresh, and they threw in some Mango pudding (like a previous reviewer) for free. They also asked me how spicy I wanted the dish. I've eaten here once and have gotten take out 3 times - been happy each time with the quality. The Onion Kulcha itself is really interesting and tasty, definitely a nice twist from normal naan purchases. When eating here, it felt like a very family-type Indian restaurant - families, couples, it's pretty basic. But it is nice and will do the job for a date, especially as it is BYOB. Four of us came to this restuarant on a Wednesday night for dinner. The decor was what I consider to be typical of Indian restaurants in NJ, but I will take note that Caffe India was a bit cleaner than most I've been in. The servers were attentive, always making sure we had enough water. When my friend had a question about a dish, it was obvious the server was aware of the composition of the dishes served in the restaurant. We ordered Paratha, Garlic naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Dansik, Lamb Pasanda, Bayngan Bhurta and were all pleased with the dishes. The chicken and lamb portions were cooked perfectly, and the curry sauces fresh and not overly salty. The Bayngan Bhurta, which is a vegetable only dish was probably my favorite. The two types of roti we ordered were nice and warm when served, and definitely had that nice charred aroma of coming right off of their tandoor. Street parking isn't hard to find, and after meals its nice to head towards the Green for dessert at the various places that have sprouted up (Seriously, people in Morristown must love probiotics...four different frozen yogurt places are now open on the same street) In my opinion, none of the other places I've been to in the area are as good as this place. I am an avid reader of reviews but I have never posted one before. I went to this restaurant with a party of 4. My husband handed our waiter our credit card and requested our check. Instead of bringing our itemized check, they brought a check which was over a hundred dollars. Since this is byob and we had a few vegetarian entrees, this seemed high so we requested the itemization. A few different waiters came over and tried to grab the signed check where my husband had already added a 20 percent gratuity. We held back the receipt and kindly asked each one of them for the itemized breakdown. When it finally came, they had already added gratuity to our original bill!!! This is why the bill was so high already! No one mentioned this to us and there were only 4 of us!!!! If you go to the restaurant, I would recommend paying cash and looking at your bill closely. The way that they reacted when we asked for the breakdown made it apparent to us that misleading us (and looking for a double tip with 4 people) was very intentional. read more

We have been going to Caffe India for 14 years. Ownership has changed and has only gotten better. We have introduced many friends to Indian food and love taking our own wine for an unrushed and delicious meal, prepared and served by the sweetest family around. Their salmon special is divine, as is the chicken tikka masala. There is nothing we have ordered that has disappointed us. Wonderful sauces. Fantastic condiments and breads. BYOB, there is a liquor store/bar next door that only sells budweiser and coorslight and had heineken but would not sell it to me, so i give the liquor store only 1 star. It starts off with a plate of papadum (which I can't seem to get enough of - so good!) paired with two chutneys and a round of mulligatawny soup. The main dishes include seekh kebab, malai kebab, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, and vegetable korma. It all comes with a huge platter of basmati rice and warm, buttery naan. Yes. It's the worst place ever that you could go to. The food they serve there is way more worse than what you would get at any below average Indian food joint in NJ. The cost of food is twice more expensive than other Indian joints. The Vegetarian Dinner Plate (Veg Thali) was missing a lot of items mentioned in the menu. Like papas, raita and salad. Food quality and taste was below standard and all the curries in the Thali had the same bland taste and felt like they simply reheated the curries they made several days ago. I have been a loyal patron for years but in the past year or so the food has become a nightmare with each visit worse than the previous. Chicken Tikka Masala is my dinner of choice and in recent months the quality has been decimated. Several visits and chicken dinners in June were progressively worse. I decided to try once last attempt at a good meal tonight receiving the rancor of the owner as I had told him at my last visit that the dinner was substandard. After years of faithful patronage, his concern was not that I would enjoy my meal (he said the food was good and of the highest quality) but rather that I would not pay for it. So rather than argue, I paid my bill in advance as I knew the price of the meal I have had many times before tonight. The rice and naan were good, the chicken seemed fine but the sauce tasted as though (if I guessed) it was drained from an Indian swap ( if they have swamps in India). I left my prepaid dinner ($20.15) on the table, slipped the excellent waiter a ten, and left with a foul taste in mouth. I do not relish the idea of arguing with an owner/manager (here - the customer is always right - does not apply) nor being served a sauce that would insult my dog. At 730pm tonight there were three people in the restaurant, last Fri I was one of only twelve at 8pm - the location, service, ambiance are fine - perhaps the chef should, at the very least, improve the food he prepares to the level of a supermarket freezer. People go to a restaurant primarily for the food - perhaps if the chef (and owner) would remember that, they would fill a few tables with diners. Sorry to say, Cafe India has become a big disappointment for me. read more

While the food is excellent, the service and wait are so bad, don't even try eating in the restaurant. Hell, we couldn't even stay and wait for dessert. Couldn't wait any longer and we just wanted to leave. We were a party of only 3 tonight (Friday night) and were one of *4* tables with customers (the place is empty). And as we waited way too long for every part of our meal, we watched take out order after take out order leave the kitchen for customers picking up. Water glasses bone dry, empty/dirty dishes sitting on the table way too long, etc. Definitely don't recommend eating there. Average fair a little greasy and not super hot but plenty of it and it's pretty tasty and the staff is friendly. Many of the chicken dishes feature particularly fatty dark meat. Many of the dishes have no meat left, only vegetables, and they are always behind on freshening up the platters. You don't often see a lot of people here. If they had good chicken dishes with a lot of white meat dishes I'd go here all the time. read more

I've only been to Caffe India for dinner and take-out, but would bet their buffet is worthwhile because I adore their food. Caffe India is a great place for dinner for a romantic night out or to take a group. The food is delicious, the bill is reasonable because it is BYOB, they refill your water all the time, and, for reasons unknown to me, it is not often busy! Pakora appetizers are fried golden with a plum sauce. I prefer the vegetable samosa to the meat samosa as I enjoy the spices. While living in town, I had the habit of ordering Paneer Makhani or Malai Kofta once a week. We also regularly ordered Saag Paneer, Rogan Josh, and Chef Special Chicken. Spiciness is not too hot, unless you request it that way. Best, is that rice is not an extra charge like it is at other restaurants in town. read more
