Located on NJ Route 124 on the western side of downtown Morristown, Caffe India offers authentic Indian dishes crafted from fresh ingredients and served in a relaxed atmosphere at a reasonable price. Unlike many other Indian restaurants, Caffe India does not offer any lunch specials or a lunch buffet .. which was a disappointment to my dining companion and me. The robust a la carte menu includes a wide variety of traditional non-veg and vegetarian Indian favorites like tandooris, paneers, masalas, and biryanis with vegetables, chicken, lamb, and seafood. I thought the Chana Masala ($14), comprised of chickpeas, onions and tomatoes cooked in a thick sauce and served with a side of rice, was tasty and filling and my father-in-law enjoyed the Vegetable Korma ($14), an Indian curry with carrots, peas and potatoes in a coconut sauce and served with a side of rice, but the garlic naan we ordered was slightly overcooked (i.e., burnt). The staff was not particularly friendly, but was efficient in getting our dishes out to us quickly although the restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday at 1230pm even though they'd been open for an hour. Overall.. a good, but not great, option for Indian cuisine in Morristown.. and it'll be interesting to see if and how they respond to their new competition on the other side of town when it opens in a few weeks. Pro Tip: Caffe India doesn't have a private parking lot. There is plenty of on-street parking off NJ Route 124, but beware of the 'No Parking' signs. read more

It was a cold and rainy Memorial Day weekend. Nowhere to go, yet too tired to go out to eat. We decided to order delivery from Cafe India which was a perfect choice. We had them leave the food on the front steps so we didn't have to put clothes on. It wasn't a big meal. We ordered chicken tikka Masala, paneer Kadai, naan, and alu paratha. The food came hot and spicy just like my marriage. My wife's paneer kadai was excellent. She doesn't eat a lot of meat, so this dish was perfect. Your mouth exploded with spices and was also so filling. Every time she left the room I would steal a bite (or two or three). I definitely recommend trying it out. We've been coming here for a number of years and I would give it 4-Star on the food alone. Everything is seasoned well and spicy. Malai Kofta, vegetable jalfrazi, Chicken tikka and garlic naan are good Most recently we came here on Mother's Day we waited for nearly 2 hours for our meal (so did other diners). The dining hall wasn't even crowded, it seemed they only had two people working the whole restaurant. What gets me is that all the patrons were a little upset and they didn't really say or do much to try to make the experience better. I'm not going to let 1 bad experience really make me not want to try this place again. The food is good and everyone has their bad nights, but I don't think I would come here on a holiday, I wonder if they can handle volume or if they were just short staffed that night. read more

Great location in Morristown off the square with fairly easy street parking. The interior decor is nice and the restaurant was very clean. We arrived around 1:15pm and ordered the lunch buffet. To start, there really wasn't much food left, although the buffet was open until 2:30pm. The restaurant was relatively empty with no line which was a plus. The food was good. Pakora and samosas were a bit on the salty side. The chickpeas were good. The chicken dishes were Tikka masala and curry. There was cauliflower, and another veg dish. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out. The Naan was gone and we had to request more, but it was good as well. Desserts included galeb jamun and kheer. Both were good. Our server was attentive. Overall, would have liked more spice and flavor, and a little less salt on the apps. read more

I have never had a bad meal here. We have eaten in the restaurant and done take out and it's always delicious. Highly recommend the vegetable samosas. Saag paneer (tofu-like cheese cubes in spinach), bhindi(okra), and anything vindaloo (the lamb is especially succulent). Go crazy and get the garlic naan too! Did I mention it's delicious?? This is our go to Indian restaurant in the area for takeout. If dining in, we'll usually venture a little further away - but not necessarily because the food is better. It's just that the atmosphere here is very very quiet, and doesn't seem conducive to bringing all the kids. I've dined in with just my wife and I and we enjoyed it very much. For takeout, our standards are the Shahi Paneer - best version of this I've ever had, the lamb rogen josh and the chicken biryani. The chicken biryani offers a generous amount of meat, while we've found the lamb dishes to be more on the skimpy side. They also offer an awesome dinner combo which includes a smaller portion of lamb rogen josh along with a chicken tandoori appetizer, naan and vegetable korma. Really a great deal. The only complaint I would have is that they are very spotty on their pickup times. They'll always say about 35 or 40 minutes, but I've had it go both ways from there. Sometimes the food will be a bit cold and had been sitting out. And other times I've waited up to 20 or 30 minutes outside of the pickup time window. Sounds minor, but this definitely can be frustrating. If they found a way to correct this (even if just giving more realistic estimates) this could be a 5 Star place. read more

Lunch is a buffet adventure of chicken, chickpea and vegetable selections in DELICIOUS sauces for just $11! Caffe India adds Tandoor chicken, deep-fried veggies, naan, rice, fresh salad and all the required sauces. At lunch there were also two desserts, a mango pudding and a rice pudding. But for you protein lovers there's no lamb, no beef and no seafood at lunch, just chicken. Two highlights for me: first the Tandoor-oven prepared chicken, which was succulent and juicy on the inside, deeply red on the outside, absolutely perfect; but surprising to me it had absolutely no spice or heat, someone's leaving something out. And second the vegetable korma, which was various lightly cooked veg in a bust-the-diet curry sauce rich in cream and butter, I could eat this over their rice all day. I like the spinach (sag paneer) too, and the chicken chilly (yes spelled with a 'y') was a stir-fry served on a huge platter. Yogurt raita was perfect, I want to put it on everything, or at least everything that I didn't put chutney or tandoor sauce on already :) I have no idea what sauce is traditionally combined with which foods, gotta learn that on my next visit! Interior is hushed quiet, classy with tablecloths and cloth napkins, this is a perfect place for an adult conversation. Cafe India has extraordinary Indian cuisine. If you're craving something flavorful, this place will not disappoint. If you want something spicy, ask for it "Indian hot". I took two Indian friends here and they said it was rather authentic and that they hadn't had such great food in a long time... Now the buffet is pretty good, not nearly as amazing as the specials on the menu. The rice pudding is phenomenal, the ghost kadai (chicken or lamb) is delectable and I LOVE THIS PLACE. I met some friends for an enjoyable dinner. Thanks to some of the previous yelp reviews i knew I would need request my dinner extra spicy. I ordered the samosa app which I did enjoy and I liked the seasoning but it was served with a plum sauce which I am not fond of. I missed the spicy mint chutney which usually comes with samosas. For my main course I orderd chilli chicken extra spicy, "vindaloo level". It was tasty but very mild heat. Also I fould the chicken a little dry and It was not all white meat as advertised on the menu. My garlic naan although hot and fresh didn't have much of a garlic flavor. I thought the prices were high for what we got but.the service was good. My companions enjoyed their vegetarian selections and love this place. Rated only on weekday lunch buffet for $11.95. This was a solid 3 1/2 star experience overall, good value, good taste, good quality, enjoyable and you will want to have seconds of every dish on this hot buffet. I first started coming here over 20 years ago it was one of my first places to eat Indian food in new Jersey, it has changed owners from time to time however the style and look of the place has always remained pretty much the same. Regarding the hot station here is where they shine there were three fried items Pakora, Onion Bhajia and Vegetable Samosa, three chicken dishes like chicken Tikka Masala, chicken Curry (both very tender) and chicken Tandoori (needed more spice), four vegetarian dishes like Chana Masala, Saag Paneer, Aloo Gobhi and Malai Kofta all were flavorful. Plus two desserts Gulab Jamun & Firni. All of these dishes were tasty and you can taste the quality of the food presented and you will get up for seconds. I have eaten at Cafe India, in Morristown, NJ for years and enjoyed many a meal. But things change. If you wanted mediocre for the past year or two -- you missed your opportunity at Cafe India. The food had been mediocre but has now sunk to a new low. Apparently now your dinner will come with a surprise -- for example a hair to pull out of your appetizer. Of course such things do happen. But than lets move on to an entree of lamb that was not all that tasty but passable for this so called eatery. The rice and bread seemed fine. The lamb dish left an unpleasant taste in my mouth that lingered which I attributed to over seasoning with spices - such as too much cilantro for my taste. Not horrible until later when Montezuma's Revenge and severe gastric distress hit me and stayed with me. Also, anything else I had that day was typical. The service was and is great, but the food -- has gone from disappointing, to disgusting, to sickening. There are other Indian restaurants in the area where you need not worry about surviving a meal. There were only four other people there at 7:30 on a pleasant Thursday night -- now I understand why other diners went elsewhere or stayed at home. Ordered lunch and had the most terrible experience. First the delivery person demanded $5 tips for a less than $30 order. I should have known by then. The food, simply speaking, was inedible. Mango juice was watered down to consistency of a lemonade. The assorted tandoori appetizers were cold, some pieces rock hard and others tasted like cardboard. It was obviously more than a days old and they did not even bother to warm it up. The chicken tikka when I opened up was so rotten that it was stinking.
