Perfect late night spot. They have sweets and coffee which is so rare to find a place open serving coffee late. I had the Dalgona Latte which tasted amazing. Not too sweet and not too bitter. Café Upper has long hours, open till midnight, which makes it a great study spot. The interior is clean and modern with average seating. When entering, you need to go from the back door closest to the parking lot. There is also plenty of parking in the surrounding area free of charge which is nice. Staff were quick and polite. Upon ordering, you receive a buzzer to notify when your order is ready. After late night Kbbq, I didn't want something heavy so I opted for the Rose Matcha. I should've tried one of their speciality drinks because the rose barely had any flavor. I was expected a strong floral taste because I could see the tea leaves, but it just tasted watered down. Cafe Upper has been on my list as another study spot. I went on a Saturday at around 10 am. I like this location, since it has a shared parking lot. That is already rare given its ktown, but there was a lot of free parking space. After heading inside, it wasn't too busy, so I got to order right away. The staff gave a buzzer to notify when the order was ready, which I thought was neat. I did notice there was a morning discount applied to the order. It seems this is valid between 8am - 2pm at a 20% discount. I saw the Dalgona latte was listed as one of their signature drinks, so I gave that a try. It was my first time trying a Dalgona latte, but I liked it. It was slightly sweet by itself, but once it dissolved, it mixed well with the coffee. In terms of atmosphere, it was a nice spot where I was able to get work done. The WiFi was reliable and there were outlets available at some of the seats. A drawback was that the music was a bit loud, so I decided to use AirPods. The table was also a bit wobbly. There's also a single shared restroom that was clean. Let's begin with parking. PLENTY of FREE parking in the rear, too much that it's hard to pick a spot to park!! (When you come early of course ...) Inside the cafe you will find a lot of tables and different sitting spaces. It is super clean and not too loud so you can plug in your laptop top and work from here. I will add that the barista was really nice . Despite on not knowing what to get, she answered a few questions I had about a couple of drinks and was completely patient with me. Not only is the staff nice but even the customers. Two people that were already inside the cafe must of heard me telling the barista it was my first time there because they immediately came to tell me their favorite drink. The cafe food tasted great! We ordered the matcha croiffle which was delicious. The waffle was cooked perfectly soft and the outside was crispy! The cream on top was very light which wasn't too sweet. It came was matcha ice cream which went really well with the croiffle. Personally, I liked the dessert more than the matcha itself. The matcha had bits of powder still left in it as it probably wasn't whisked enough. There's a lot of seating in the cafe great for doing work or studying. I was so excited to try this place with my friends, especially after seeing so many good reviews. I ordered a matcha latte, and the experience completely went downhill from there. They give customers buzzers to let you know when your drink is ready. I was the first one in my group to order, but somehow my friends started getting their drinks before me. After waiting for a while, my friend went up to ask about my order, but the staff was rude to him and even ignored him. When I went up myself, it didn't get any better. One of the workers questioned me about why I had the same buzzer as my friend. I tried explaining that he had gone up to ask for me since everyone else already had their drinks. I even had to show proof that I paid. Another worker then came over and asked what I ordered, and when I told him a matcha latte, he insisted I hadn't ordered that drink. It turned into unnecessary back-and-forth over a drink I clearly remembered ordering. During this interaction, the woman helping me was raising her voice at me, yet she repeatedly told me to "calm down," even though I wasn't yelling and was simply trying to explain the situation. Eventually, they handed me a drink I didn't even order. At that point, I just accepted it because I didn't want to keep arguing. When I took a sip, my iced drink was completely warm, overly milky, and didn't even taste like they tried to make it properly, it tasted rushed and careless. I was extremely disappointed. My first impression of the place is that it is very overpriced, but we went to just get something small so we split 1 croffle and 1 matcha einspanner between the 2 of us and at $24, at least the portions are gigantic. The croffle we got was the biscoff one, and it had a nice biscoff flavor with lots of whipped cream. The croffle itself is crunchy and buttery. The matcha einspanner is heavy and a bit on the sweeter side, but it was fairly delicious. Overall, nice cafe concept and great for working. Probably a bit late to the camp, but well better late than never, so there I was finally making my way to Cafe Upper. Nothing much special about the venue's design, but absolutely a plus point knowing they opened until very late so great spot to visit when you're down for late night sweet craving (not even at night but almost the morning). Other bonus point, dedicated parking spot! Additionally, you would get a token post placing order so you could just sit nicely waiting for it to ring when your order's ready on the pickup counter. Plenty of seats were available and handful selections of sweets from pastries, cakes, bagel, and even freshly made croffles. As you would expect from a typical K-town cafe, lots of drink options as well. Not so much for the drink, this time I was more intrigued by their croffle and I went for Injeolmi one, cause hey why would I go for some common toppings I could easily found elsewhere. The size was much bigger than my expectation, which was probably the reason why it's price tag was more on the higher end. Served with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, I would say it's perfect for sharing for two. I loved how a party of texture was featured on this plate with chewy injeolmi, flaky and crunchy croffle, light sweet cream on top, and extra happiness from the ice cream and soybean powder. The only problem we had getting here is that there are two visible entrances and there wasn't a sign indicating which way to enter so we assumed at first there was an event going on and customers weren't allowed in. (Two couple attempted the way we did and gave up to leave because of this) I was resilient though lol, I tried knocking and when I realized nobody noticed me I went around the rear and found the other entrance. The menu is pretty diverse. We go the taro einspanner. The taro was well done, the espresso itself however for some reason didn't do it for me. But it was still very tasty! I've done my fair share of cafes in OC and LA, trying to find good spots to work. This was my 2nd time here, and I noticed that if you come at a bad time, the place gets really packed and there are no outlets to use depending on where you get seated. If you do manage to get a seat, the wifi is decent, and the drinks are pretty standard. Tbh, nothing standout. I got the Matcha Einspanner the first time, and then the Strawberry Matcha Latte the second time. They were both very pricy compared to other places, about $10 each once I substituted for non-dairy milk. I also got the bagel with a savory flavored cream cheese (maybe it was like onion or something) for $10 as well. They slathered a huge layer of cream cheese on it which was a bit too much for me so I scrapped off half of it so I wouldn't have to have a mouthful of it with each bite. I just wish the ratio was a bit better, though it was better value I suppose? Or maybe have some sort of meat option to balance out all of the cream cheese. Overall, a decent place to do work, but make sure you go at a good time, or go early. Weekends it tends to get very crowded and loud. Definitely try this place out for yourself. Decided to get some drinks after dinner with my buddies, and one of them recommended this spot. Came back here after another dinner to see if the first experience was a fluke. Never was a huge fan of coffee, but Cafe Upper exceeded my expectations. I'm really big on free parking, and this spot has a pretty decently sized lot with plenty of spaces; a precious commodity that is normally so rare being ever so present had immediately won me over. The interior is a pretty generic cafe layout, with multiple people working on their laptops with headphones on at their table. It does get pretty noisy, however, with so many customers in the cafe. Regardless, the staff was polite and got our drinks out pretty quickly, so no complaints there. I decided to order the iced chai latte and pistachio einspanner on separate occasions, and both were surprisingly quite decent. The chai latte wasn't too heavy on the cardamom flavor, but I felt like half the cup was just ice; a friend asked for easy ice on his latte and they only poured to like 75% of the cup, not sure if that's a normal thing in coffee shops. The einspanner had a creamy richness that paired beautifully with the espresso. They also included whole pistachios, a ladyfinger biscuit, and a dusting of cocoa powder (I think?) that made the drink much more exciting to consume with all the different textures. It was a bit hefty on the price for a couple of coffees; around $8 for each of them. Pistachio einspanner was definitely worth it for the different flavor profiles it brought, but the chai latte was watered down heavily by all the ice. All that being said, I still enjoyed the drinks that I ordered (even though I generally despise coffee) and the overall environment of Cafe Upper.
