We went here for dinner on Friday. The place wasn't that busy for a Friday evening, even though downtown was super busy. The interior was ok, nothing special. However, the staff was super friendly. They have a pretty limited menu, for me nothing stood out, so I asked the server what she recommended. She rattled off a few items, so I chose one if them; the Tuscan Salmon. It was disappointing, basically a piece of salmon on a bed of pasta. The salmon was good, but the pasta was pretty bland and dry. I wasn't a fan of the homemade pasta, it was too thick for me. I don't think I would go back. read more

My husband and I just happened to find this place on a whim while walking down the street and I am so glad we did! The food was absolutely to die for! They make their own pasta - it was so fresh! I can't speak to much else because we both got pasta dishes. I love the vibe. If you can, sit outside. It feels like you're in a back alley in Italy! They have it set up so cute and they play great Italian music. read more

Cafe Stella makes their pasta fresh everyday. Need I say more... It is a scratch kitchen. I ordered the spaghetti and marinara sauce. Definitely was so authentic; it brought me back to my childhood days of having Sunday dinner with my family. The service was top notch. We were staying overnight in Flagstaff and looking for a place for dinner. Yelp noted their pasta was freshly made and that sold us. I ordered the Paccheri , with arrsbbists such with local Arizona raised beef (ground) tossed in fresh pasta topped with red chili flakes. I enjoyed most every bite! Very filling and satisfying. My 3 friends enjoyed their pasta dishes as well. FYI - The pasta shapes are all the same in the different dishes. We didn't order dessert but we did get some chocolate at the candy store nearby. I would definitely recommend Cafe Stella. Our server was Farrah - a friendly gal with a great smile. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. It appears small but may have another room if needed. It was busy with customers. read more

I don't write reviews often but I felt this place needed one- unfortunately not on the positive side of things. We had a reservation and walked up to check in. The hostess asked if we wanted patio or inside (we'd never been to this place before so my husband asked if he could check out the patio quickly). The hostess said sure but then immediately sat another walk in table in the 30 seconds it took my husband to look at the patio. My husband came back and said the patio looks nice and we will do that. Then she proceeded to tell us she had just sat the last four top (the walk ins). So I asked why she'd even offer us the option if it wasn't one? And also that we had an actual reservation. She was EXTREMELY rude and told me it was "first come fist serve". She then proceeded to seat us by the soda machine (probably worst table they had). I was hoping the food would redeem her horrible service and poor judgment but unfortunately it was pretty sub par. My son's pasta was cold, mine was watery and they ran out of steak. To top it off - took my 7 year old to the bathroom and on the wall in bright neon lights is "please don't do coke in the bathroom". Seriously? This is an Italian restaurant not a bar. I had to pretend that they meant don't drink soda in the bathroom and she kept asking and going on and on about it. So inappropriate. Won't be returning and suggest you don't waste your time or money there either. read more

This is our 2nd time at Fat Olives. I love their wooden floors, wooden tables and chairs and the brick walls...simple yet stylish! We decided on two pizzas- the 12" Shrimp Fra Diavolo (pesto sauce, spicy shrimp, basil, and the wonderful Calabrian chiles and chili oil) and a 10" Pepperoni. The shrimp pizza was amazing and will have me stopping in here on future Flagstaff trips! The crust was perfectly cooked- a little char from the wood smoke oven and a little chewiness like a good crust should have. Despite the place getting crazy before we left, our waiter was very attentive and got us a box for our last 3 slices (all from the pep) and to-go drinks. Being hot and sunny, we placed the pizza box on our dash and had the last few slices hours later on the road. The only problem with Fat Olives is it being in Flagstaff and not in metro-Phoenix. Okay...2nd problem is I want to try every pizza they have. If the first problem gets fixed, the 2nd problem may go away! Final note- they do have several pizzas with nuts on them, so those with nut allergies should speak to their server to understand any risk.

Their fat olives salad was good, it was refreshing and I liked the chicken breast they grilled, very tender. The caprese was good too. Don't forget to order tiramisu as dessert, it's not too sweet. The Italian soda was definitely on the sweeter side, but interesting to drink. The vibe was also good, and the staff was friendly. Be sure to make a reservation so you don't wait too long.

We started with the green apple/brie and fig balsamic on a baguette. This was a great idea but the execution needs improvement. The bread seemed a bit stale. It should have been toasted for crunch and texture as well as adding flavor and interest. The salmon on creamy orzo was perfectly cooked and my wife enjoyed it. I had the chicken parm. It was a generous serving over spaghetti. On the positive side the thinly pounded breast was nicely fried- not heavy at all. There was minimal sauce on the chicken and on the spaghetti leading it to be quite under- flavored, as a local guide and others have stated. Overall, I think the restaurant has great promise. Most notably, the wood-fired Neapolitan dough is superb! Beautifully charred, with a great chew that I'd happily eat dipped in olive oil and balsamic all day. UNFORTUNATELY, the execution of the Rucola pie fell short on fundamental balance. After finishing a 7-mile hike, we were eager for a well crafted pizza. What arrived was a red sauce base overwhelmed by a mountain of raw arugula and shaved parmesan, lacking any melted cheese structure. NO CHEESE! WHY THOUGH?? A melted cheese layer provides crucial savory depth and acts as a moisture barrier. Without it, the wet sauce saturated the dough, rendering an otherwise stellar crust soggy and unseasoned (we had to request salt to bring out any flavor). It ultimately felt like a salad served over softened bread rather than a cohesive pie. When we provided feedback, the response was polite but indifferent. While the foundation is clearly there, the balance was completely off. I'd consider giving them another chance with a different pie, but Flagstaff has too many incredible pizza joints to settle for soggy bread. I'll post a follow-up review if I go back.

If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with a cozy, elevated feel, Cafe Stella truly stands out. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between intimate and stylish, making it ideal for both date nights and relaxed dinners with friends. From the soft lighting to the thoughtful décor, everything creates a warm, welcoming vibe that feels effortlessly upscale. The food is where Cafe Stella really shines. Each dish feels carefully crafted, with rich flavors and fresh ingredients that reflect classic Italian cooking. Service was outstanding! The pasta is especially impressive--perfectly cooked and paired with sauces that taste homemade in the best way. Their pizzas are equally memorable, with crisp crusts and well-balanced toppings. And if you have room, dessert is a must--the tiramisu is a standout and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, Cafe Stella delivers more than just great food--it offers an experience. The service was absolutely top-notch--the server checked in on us at just the right times and made sure our drinks were always full. He even took a picture of us, which made the experience feel extra special. The food was delicious, and we ended our meal with a perfect slice of tiramisu. The service provided by the manager, Derek, was exceptional in ensuring our satisfaction. The meatball sub I selected was notably flavorful. It is advisable to opt for this dish only if one has a substantial appetite, as the portion size is quite generous. Additionally, the atmosphere of the establishment was inviting and comfortable. read more

He also has a sore mouth from some recent dental work, so finding restaurant foods that are soft, with no black pepper has been quite the challenge. But our server was so kind. I honestly don't get the hype. On paper, there's a lot to like: the downtown Flagstaff location is…read morecozy and vibrant, service was warm, and the wine list was on point.

We…read morearrived about 10mins after they opened for lunch on a Tuesday and we were promptly seated and served. It was a good thing, as the place was packed 15min later!

The amount of was generous, it's spicy, but I think it's a little bit oily and too salty for me. The belgio dolce was sweet and salty, it's better than the shrimp one.
