Being an AZ native, I have been making trips to Flagstaff my whole life. This is one of these restaurants that I have wanted to visit for some time. I mostly visit Flagstaff to ski and those are usually one-day turnaround trips. I rarely have time to do a sit-down dinner. But I was staying in town recently and we came by here on a rainy night to celebrate my bday. Pizzicletta has been around for some time and is located just south of the railroad tracks. They also have a location over at Dark Sky Brewing Co. Pizzicletta makes made-to-order Neapolitan pizzas. They have a variety of pizza creations on their menu. They also make their own gelato. We started our evening with a Burrata Caprese - a favorite of mine. I had my eye on their Diavola pizza while looking at the menu. It has both chili oil and honey pecorino to make it both sweet and spicy. Our server recommended adding pesto to it which was a great suggestion. I ended my night with a coffee gelato. This place is so hyped that every time I walked past it, at every hour of the day, it was absolutely packed with people waiting outside for seating. In what felt like a small miracle, I spied a window where one can pick up to-go orders. I'd been wanting to try this spot for years, and while I wasn't able to dine in, I was elated to scurry back to my hotel and eat it right out of the box. What I loved: OMG, they had it ready so fast I was stunned! I'm talking under 10 minutes. I scored the Amore Oi Mari (a standard prosciutto & arugula with a twist of mascarpone and lemon olive oil). The omission of mozzerlla or fontina feels controversial, but it still works wonderfully. The abundant lemon zest notes of the olive oil paired perfectly with crunchy, peppery arugula and it's so good the cured pork feels more optional than central to the dish. What I liked: I also ordered chocolate sea salt gelato and it might be the best frozen dessert in town. I'm not ready to crown Pizzicletta *the* best pizza in AZ until I return to try more, but it's really high up on the list and absolutely cannot be missed. read more

We've enjoyed Pizzicletta dozens of times inside Dark Sky Brewing, but this was the first time we had the pleasure of dining at the actual Pizzicletta restaurant. We lucked out with some gorgeous weather a few weeks back, so dining on the patio was very enjoyable, particularly with the cozy string lights on overhead. It was super packed, but some of the couples ahead of us rejected the tiny bar counter and stools at the end of the smaller patio; since those seats didn't bother us we were seated immediately! I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was very friendly. She immediately brought us a water carafe and two glasses. She was back in under 5 minutes to take our order and our food came out super fast. We began with the Mixed Greens Salad with Chevre & Pine Nuts. The portion was generous and the salad was absolutely delicious. They let the flavor of the chevre & pine nuts really shine through by adding a very light olive oil based dressing. We then shared our favorite pizza, the Diavola, which was delicious as always. Their pizza crust is some of the best in the western U.S. I love the convenience of enjoying Pizzicletta at Dark Sky, but I think we'll be coming to this location from now on. We opted to sit outside on the patio - there are heaters but it's not super strong - however, the staff was super accommodating about it! This location doesn't have a Ceasar salad but we ordered the mixed greens one and enjoyed it. I liked the crisp of the pizza and the notes of honey that would come through. The place is small, but they do have a 900° pizza oven and it takes minutes to cook the pizza the crust was perfect and my husband loved the pepperoni and the sauce. This month they have about a 10 maybe 12 seat shared table. And about five seats at a standup bar perfect. We also have homemade gelato. My only complaint is. There was a person working there that had short, dark hair, tall and thin, and they waited on tables. Well, she wasn't friendly. And the way that she served our water and everybody else's water, was disgusting. She put her fingers on the top of the glass where people put their mouths. I downloaded yelp and created an account because this place was so bad. Horrible experience, 4.4 review is such a lie. Uncooked food and bad service. I had to request for the breadsticks to be brought out before our pizza, and it wasn't. I had to remind the waitress that we even ordered breadsticks and got a silent sigh in response. Dough was completely uncooked, on both the pizza and the breadsticks. I could pull apart the bread and it looked like it was still rising!! We're so happy to try this place and get a little after opening for a seat! They get busy on weekends so be aware but the pizza comes out extremely fast so hopefully not a huge wait time if you do have to wait. Our service was nice and we all ordered different pizzas. We first ordered the rosemary focaccia which was good but nothing crazy to write home about. I got the white base carne dolce with pepperoni instead of the sausage. Probably the best pizza I've tried not too saucy or cheesy with a sweet flavor and chewy crust. The diavola was also ordered and it tasted so yummy. Went to Flagstaff for the day and stumbled into this restaurant at the corner. We immediately loved the ambience and the warmth of the interior of this restaurant. There was a lot of stuff present at the time so we were able to be served quickly. We started with the warm olives, which is now my new favorite way to eat olives. They finished it with lemon sauce, which was a great touch for pizza. We got the SS - 145 and added mushrooms and prosciutto. Unfortunately, I really did not enjoy the taste of the pizza and did not think the almonds and white sauce went well together. Diavola was meaty and juicy, with the sweet touch of honey, and Amore oi mari was loaded with tons of arugula, the flavor was so strong, both tasted good and the crust was so soft, the only thing to complain was the bottom was too burnt and a little bit affected the flavor (bitter). We checked it out on a weekday night and it was super busy, but we got a spot at the communal table which I'd say is the best place to sit if you want to watch the pizza making in action. I'm a huge fan of wood fired pizza and a mix of good ingredients like arugula evoo and prosciutto. Our pizzas took about ten minutes which was amazing and service was great, even with a packed restaurant. My only complaint would be that I was expecting the dough to be a little bit more bubbly and done on the bottom, it was missing this like most wood fired pizzas I've had. We waited about 25 min ( they will text you when the table is ready .) We had a salad it was delicious. I also tried the sorrento orange wine. Oh my goodness!! We haven't had pizza this good in a LONG time! You can't ever go wrong when the pizza oven is a legit one, but the flavors, quality, service, and welcoming vibe push this place over the top! We had our 2 kids (9 and 11) and this was their first time trying neopolitan pizza and they loved it . There is also a convenient bathroom located in the restaurant (with a diaper changing table for those of you parents with littles!). We had to take the few pieces we had left because there was no way we were going to waste any of it. We will definitely return the next time we visit Flagstaff. I've been hearing how great this pizza is. Wood fired pizza. I ordered a Marinara pizza. Plain and simple. Sauce, garlic and basil. The pizza came out literally in 5 mins. Low and behold the top was charred and the bottom was uncooked. Raw in the middle like glue. Pale on the bottom. Once I picked the slice up it went all down hill from there. Immediately I expressed my concern to my server; she took away my pizza. The manager came over to my table. While expressing my concern about raw pizza all she cared about was her food cost. She told me I need to pay half since they had to dispose of it. What restaurant charges for their mistake?? Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Being in this industry 28 years I know what the problem was but you can't tell a kid manager with an ego. I was not paying for something I didn't eat! Nor did she offer to fix the issue. Clearly the oven was too hot and the person was not trained properly. Food handlers license or Serve Safe is a good start.Temperatures are crucial. Food poisoning is real. Especially in the desert. This pizza is the best wood-fired pizza I've had outside of Italy. For the folks like me who love a heavy sauce and light cheese pizza, their margherita pizza is for you. An absolute must-try when visiting Flagstaff! They also have a pickup window on the side of the restaurant for you to order and take pizzas to-go if you're pressed for time.
