I was first wary when I entered this restaurant because the aroma was very strong. After awhile, I got used to it and it didn't bother me. I only came here to grab a drink with a few friends and I am happy I did. Their Bloody Mary's are so good! I think Bloody Mary's are so fancy and grown up. I have tried them twice and just couldn't stomach them. My friend ordered and I thought, what the hell, let's try this out. I am so happy I did. Not too salty and a great amount of vodka. My friend also had a coffee, a Touba. Delicious and strong. Hummus plate was also really good. Their pita bread was very soft. I thought about ordering another one just because of that bread! read more

On July 22nd, 2020, I had lunch at Cafe Rue Dix. This was my first meal out since COVID and was excited to try this Senegalese restaurant. Unfortunately, that excitement soon went away. The food we received tasted nothing like the Senegalese food I had and loved in the past. We left all our food uneaten after a few bites. However, things got much worse when I took a bite of my lamb dibi and found hair in my food. I was disgusted. We waited and waited for our waiter to return and when that never happened we left. I felt sick to my stomach and couldn't take it anymore. Unfortunately, this restaurant forces you to pay for your meal before you receive it, even for dine-in, so they already had my payment. I immediately, after leaving, called the restaurant and spoke to the manager, who accused me of putting my own hair in the food and refused to refund the charge for our meal, even with photographic proof and a note on the receipt concerning the hair. This was a horrible dining and customer service experience. read more

Thankful we walked around and chose to brunch here on the last day of the summer. First of all, the French/Senegalese decor is creative and lovely. That 2nd floor indoor window is everything! Felt like being away. On to food. I thoroughly enjoyed my Croque Madade which was mostly a crepe with ham, Gruyere cheese topped with really fresh greens and side of fried eggs. Heavenly delicious! My husband had the Rue Dix burger. The bread was light and toasty. The rib eye was a little more cooked to qualify as medium but it certainly did not lack in taste. Fries were well made. Their in-house spicy sauce is very unique and well seasoned....and I'm not even a fan of spicy sauces The staff was very friendly and informative. I felt that there were lag times the more people that came in but I guess that comes with the territory as there were only 3 waitresses (including the owner). read more

Honestly 3 years ago I raved about this place and today I got a $26 salad to go with no dressing on it. Never doing that again. On top of this the salad was really bad. I loved the food and had a delicious lamb chop with rice. I would love to come back but was disappointed by the extra 12% service fee. I asked the waiter if it was part of the tip and he claimed it was an additional fee for COVID and did not include tip (I therefore still included the 20% standard tip). I tried to email the restaurant to clarify and confirm if this was correct and if so how long the fee would be added but I received no response. Great food but too expensive. read more

Very beautiful and well spaced location. Made a spontaneous trip to Brooklyn and discovered this restaurant. Arrived at opening time so there was no wait or any other patrons. Ordered the lamb dish and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Everything in the meal was seasoned and well prepared. My friend ordered the stew fish meal and also enjoyed her meal. I had a taste of her rice and loved the flavors present. For drinks I ordered a peach margarita that had a nice kick to it. Not overly flavored in peach if you're looking for a sweet drink, but overall refreshing. My friend ordered a ginger queen and also enjoyed her drink. read more

Get to the Chase: Pros: 1) Amazing staff - courteous, polite, and greeting with smiles 2) Accommodating - dropped by on memorial day afternoon and had 30 min to order before leaving; We didn't want to sacrifice quality, and saw amaaaazing reviews for this place. Food came out amazing and with 10 min to spare 3) Food lives up to its reputation! Love sengalese/french food! Had the spinach and smoked salmon omlette which was fluffy like a cloud and full of meat :) no skimping. My wife had the duck confit croquettes and damn that was some richly delicious morsels that balanced well with a refreshing salad. By the way the chili hot sauce/paste that came on the side needs to be bottled and sold everywhere!! IT's so good and not afraid to turn it up a notch on that spice ish 4) Very clean bathroom 5) Looove the decor and music (not too loud, not to soft) Cons: 1) None read more

I love this place!!! The food is so good!!! Brunch with friends on a beautiful summer afternoon couldn't have been more perfect. I love how the doors open completely, so air flows through the restaurant nicely. Felt almost like I was on an island somewhere. Food, drinks, everything i tasted was A+. Cant wait to go back to try the branzino! read more

I really hate to do this, but every time I've ordered from this place there's been an issue. This go around I ordered $100 worth of food, and my delivery was changed to the following day w/o my notice, when I called to fix the issue they promised me they would deliver my food to me that night, of course, no food was delivered. I then spent the next 3 days hounding them down to get my money back for the food I never got. They don't ever answer the phone, so the only option is to go to the restaurant in person to get anything done. read more

This place is awesome! I am Ivorian with a half Senegalese mom so I grew up eating Senegalese quite a bit and know how to cook some of the dishes, so my standards are pretty high; and I would say that this place lived up to my expectations! Decor: warm and cozy. It's very dark inside, with dimmed lights so it is a little hard to see your food, but it gives it a romantic atmosphere. There is a bar too which is perfect for solo meals or to unwind over drinks after a long work day. Music: amazing playlist of western African music. I even recognized some songs from my childhood growing in west Africa. Food: probably the most tasty and authentic Senegalese I've had in NY, on par or superior to pikine in Harlem. They make a mean tche bou djen! I've come here for brunch and dinner and tried a handful of dishes and all have been delicious so far. I tried the French stuff like moules frites that was really good too! Service: good overall and excellent by NYC Africa restaurant standards. Service is Mediocre at most African restaurants with food taking an hour to arrive and half of the menu never available. Never experienced this here; food is usually served within 10-20min and everything on the menu is actually available lol. The staff is always friendly and professional. Price: one of the priciest African restaurants around with meals $15-25. That being said, given that the place, food, and service are on point it's worth the experience! Treat yourself, you deserve it. Overall: definitely recommend. You get great African food in NYC but service is almost always lackluster (by American standards that is; I'm used to seeing that foolishness back hom). This place checks all the boxes and some of the bartenders are BAEs too! read more

The food is amazing!! The service is A1 and the ambiance is perfect for a date or dinner with friends.

Charming, dimly lit interior and fab authentic drinks like bouye and bissap, I genuinely adore their thieb (national dish) but it is definitely on the pricier side read more

I tried French cuisine for the first time and I liked it. The food is very tasty, the service is excellent.

This was worth every mike drove from NJ to NY. We loved it. Outside seating with social distancing and hygiene well enforced. They are very organized, you order at the window/door, pay and working minutes your hot, well spiced and sautéed with West African Ancestral pride dripping all over the plates. This is definitely one place that is going into our good books. With such an Olympic performance in catering during a pandemic, one can only imagine what they do in normal times. Without a doubt, we are coming back, oh yes! Coming with the whole crew. Cheers! read more

I believe this Place has much more potential than what I am giving. When I arrived the setup was order at the window and go to your seat. When I got to the window I was met by a young man who did not seem present. I get it....... Other than that I had the tradition cocktail plus the Senegalese spring rolls. Very expensive for an entree and cocktail +$30 The outdoor seating was quiet and nice, yet the tables were attended by the same people at the window which results in same attitude in service. I found out the owner is also running the crepes restaurant in BK that I love. I look forward to actually eating dinner cause they close at the 9:00 pm ! Would go back and demand the results I want because I know they are able of delivering. read more

Cute, quaint spot, albeit extremelyyy tight spacing (which can be uncomfortable for some). Fairly attentive and pleasant waiters/waitresses but they could probably benefit from the divide and conquer approach (giving the same order to two different people can be a little frustrating). Food was enjoyable! Empanadas, calamari and fish were delicious. The beignets were not good; they had a weird gummy texture and no flavor. I'd wholeheartedly skip these next time. Overall, I'd likely return. Cool ambiance and good food (with a few minor inconveniences). read more

I really wanted to like this place after hearing great reviews from friends, but I won't be recommending or returning here due to the poor service and unremarkable food. My friends liked their food but I thought my dish was just ok. I ordered the stewed chicken which tasted overly salty. The calamari was standard. I also wanted to order dessert but our server gave us the check while we were still eating and drinking. In fact, the server acted like we were a bother the whole time we were there which wasn't long and well before closing time. He asked to take our whole order (apps, drinks, main) in one go and then had an attitude when we were surprised by this and rushed to pick out all of our items at once. He then proceeded to ignore our table after the mains arrived. We wanted to order a second round of drinks, and get a fork we dropped replaced, but we had to ask a food runner to relay these messages back to our server who disappeared. He also delivered my husband's main to the wrong table so we ended up waiting for one plate while the rest of our meals sat and cooled off. My friends and I didn't want to be rude but we started to eat after waiting five minutes so that our dinners wouldn't get too cold. I shared my dish until my husband's order arrived. read more

This lovely spot has earned a well-deserved "gem" status in crown heights. Friends and neighbors alike have urged me to frequent Cafe Rue Dix since I moved to the area a few years' back and I am very happy to share that I finally made it for a meal. The ambiance is quite cozy and yet lively. The dim lighting paired with the music (albeit a tad loud) lend themselves to a nice environment for a date night. The menu is very interesting but not extensive (or intimidating). I knew walking in that I was having the moules frites based on a friend's recommendation but there are items like stew and fish that will lure me back for a return visit. My husband got the burger because he is not a fan of spicy foods and wanted to play it safe. I must add, their fries are really really excellent. And the mussels were amazing, as promised. A hearty portion arrives with lots of flavorful broth to sip and slurp. The perfect fries are also a good vehicle for dipping into and enjoying said broth. I think my hubby missed the mark with the burger here but more to try next time! read more

This was great surprise! We didn't expect much, but the food was really good.I highly recommend branzino.

My favorite neighborhood spot. I waited for years to have a French spot near home, and lucked out because it is French & Senegalese! I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you try the "mafe" if it's your first time trying West African food. It is outrageously good. I also really like the West African stew. We stop in often for the omelets for weekend brunch; my kids love their burgers and fries. Great seafood too. It now gets so busy on weekends, sometimes you have to make reservations! A testament to their success. Bravo Rue Dix! read more

I went here about 3 years ago for brunch! My good friend and I wanted to have Senegalese food for dinner so we headed here again... this time was not great!! The small bites were really good... in particular the cheese board, beignets and the Senegalese spring rolls. The mains although were beyond disappointing! I ordered the Thiebou Jen. The only thing that was hot on the plate was the fish. The rice was lukewarm and hard (I later found out they don't make the rice daily ) they also added tambourine sauce which was literally frozen to the touch! Needless to say I sent it back and was super disappointed! read more

Came here for dinner and I would say that I'm sufficiently intrigued to give it another shot but I'm not wowed. I ordered the Thiebou Jen which is was a very homey, stewed fish based dish. Fairly simple but the vegetables and the fish itself were fairly tasty and comfy. My friend had the mushroom vegetable sandwich and another had the shrimp fettucine which curiously came with some toasted whole wheat bread. The ciabatta sandwich was apparently pretty good as was the shrimp although the pasta component was just okay. The toasted wheat bread felt very out of place, especially seeing as how they have perfectly good ciabatta (or perhaps even baguettes considering their claim to France). Overall, food here was mostly pretty solid but there wasn't a moment where I was particularly impressed. read more

This past Saturday, my daughter and I stumbled on this Senegalese cafe for breakfast and she was overjoyed because she loves Food from the continent of Africa but hadn't tried this one yet. It was early and there weren't too many customers yet. A hostess greeted us outside with a warm smile but warned us that breakfast was typically more American. Our server brought out menus and was a little less inviting. She never introduced herself much less welcomed us and was not very knowledgeable about the menu. I don't think she was upset with us per she but clearly, she did not want to be there. My daughter ordered the French toast , which she loved and I had a very unusual omelette with a side salad. I say unusual because it didn't look like eggs and had an unfamiliar taste to it...but I enjoyed it. Perhaps my omelette was a Senegalese recipe. We both enjoyed the coffee very much. I'm going back for dinner at some point but I do hope that the service is better because I don't enjoy spending my money at venues who don't appreciate the patronage. Brooklyn has way too many food options for any one venue to allow themselves to become complacent an unappreciative. However I do have to two chance rule in life. read more

I wanted to love this place as I've heard great things and it's pretty close to where I live but the service left much to be desired. After chasing down the staff to be seated we waiting about half an hour before someone even showed up to take our order. Normally, I would have left but others really wanted to stay... To drink I had the Ginger queen which was really good, very gingery and not very sweet - exactly what I was hoping for and the reason I am giving them two stars instead of one! To eat I started with the cheese plate which was not very well balanced at all, all the cheeses were sharp which made the pairing with olive bread nearly unpalatable. For my entree I had the veggie sandwich which was lacking in flavor and they forgot to add the goat cheese I ordered which probably would have helped with the flavors but alas I will never know. I got the wrong side item but this was probably the only thing they promptly corrected. Halfway through dinner we finally got the water we had requested - with hints of cucumber or whatever was in the carafe before the water so another disappointment. I didn't opt for a second drink or dessert because I was so turned off at this point that I just wanted to leave. read more

I really like the place. We didn't order more because of the service. But last I went they didn't not have enough wait staff on a Saturday night and even had a large party of over 20 ppl. It's Mother's Day and I was glad to see that Cafe Rue Dix's bar and tables were still available before the rush! What a neat charm this place is. It's so inviting. I had a couple of mimosas, fried calamari, and fries. The calamari came with guac as the dipping sauce. It was different, but good. The fries were a bit bland --idk, something was missing. Salt, maybe? All in all, it's a dope place. Their bathroom door is pretty cool, too. read more

This place is a Crown Heights high light. Vibe and service did most of the heavy lifting but the food was good too. It was a sweltering steamy Brooklyn Monday night. They're situated on a corner and they had their glass bi folding doors fully open on both Park & Bedford. Indoor/outdoor thresholds were blurred. West African/Caribbean music was bumpin, happy people sat at the bar and tables chatting and laughing. The restaurant was almost full, but they had a table open by the open doors where I sat. I had a perfect view of the street and the restaurant. Cool decor, dim lights, happy, friendly, attentive staff welcomed me, seated me, brought water quickly and took order/ brought bill at a pace that I really appreciated. I ordered the Ginger cocktail with rum pineapple and mint and it was simple and refreshing. For food I was torn between the spicy chicken and the Mafe and the waitress recommended the Mafe so I went with it. It was good and big portions! I'd give the meal 4 stars. The meat was tender and light. It came on a fluffy light pillow of couscous with a side bowl of extra peanut sauce. This dish was super light despite what you'd expect from the listed ingredients. It also has a little bit of burn to it which I liked. The peanut flavor got to be a little monotonous by the end. I feel the same way about risotto--every bite tastes the same. But I think that's just the dish and not necessarily the chef's fault. This was a high quality meal I was really impressed. I'm excited to try the spicy chicken and the Senegalese national dish (fish) when I return. read more

Absolutely delicious! A group of friends dropped in Saturday night around 830pm after a day party birthday celebration. We grabbed seats at the bar as there were no open tables available yet. After ordering drinks and apps we decided to just order food from the bar since tables hadn't opened up yet. We each ordered something different but we all loved our food. I got the Thiebue Jen (National plate) which was fish with rice, carrot, cabbage, eggplant and yucca. It was superb! It far succeeded my expectations on every level. I expected it to be good but what I received was even better. On top of amazing food, our bartender/server was outstanding. He was super attentive and helpful in explaining each dish as we determined what to order. I was supremely pleased and I will be dining again! read more

I came to this restaurant a few weeks ago for the first time and loveee it so much! The dim lighting gives this place a calm and romantic vibe, and is super cute! We came in on a Friday and sat at the bar. The bartender, Sonia, is such a cutie, super sweet and made us some great drinks! I had the Jardin de Senegal and the rue dix margarita which were really good! For starters we had the delicious Fataya empanadas and for my entree I had the grilled lamb chops and let me tell you.. they were so BOMB! Did I mention the bartender was great? Definitely deserves a raise for her great service! Overall I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back :) read more

I bite into a rock in my Spring Roll. Lucky I didn't break a tooth. I presented the rock to the cashier. The cashier inspected the rock, then asked another person to look at it. This person addressed it with the cook. The cook took it and threw it away. Someone suggest what I should do, please! Sadly the food was good, but an inedible item in the spring roll and destroying the evidence. Pray I don't get sick. My major problem is that the staff did not care. I could have been seriously injured. They took the evidence and threw it away, never once did anyone apologize. I did not finish my meal and I even got a bit of attitude from one of the staff. The staffer that gave the rock to the cook said to me " what do you want me to do?" I am a big support of local businesses but this place should be closed. Unapologetic attitude and serving hazardous items in their food. I wonder if I report them to the health department with out the evidence they purposefully destroyed will I get help. Wonderful neighborhood spot with good food that is well-seasoned (which is becoming more and more difficult to find in the "new" Crown Heights). Run by Senegalese siblings, this spot bridges the gap between good restaurant and night spot. I like to come here after my favorite Sunday morning yoga class at Urban Asanas. The food is good - brunch in particular is my fave. Love the eggs on avocado toast and the smoked salmon omelette. The French fries are salty perfection and if you want a truly unique drink, try the Senegalese coffee. Also love the hibiscus rum punch. Evenings are equally delightful with a delicious dinner menu and happy hour. Definitely on my regular dining list. read more

I used to love this place but the service and quality has changed a lot. We ventured into Cafe Rue Dix shortly before closing time, tired and hungry, having just flown across the country and checked into our Airbnb in Crown Heights.
