Grilled chicken sandwich
Bruce K.

Dinner delivered because I was too lazy to go out and get anything. I looked over the menu and decided on the grilled chicken sandwich "package." The sandwich was nicely assembled on tasty toasted bread with melted cheese and hummus and some veggies. Delicious. The "package" includes a soda, chips and dessert. I chose the carrot cake and it was good. Moist, not too heavy with frosting and just a little sweet. It arrived right on time and packaged appropriately. I'd order from them again.

1/2 my eggplant, mozz, roasted red pepper roll up 1/2012
Vivian C.

I stopped off here to pick up something for dinner because their list of specialty roll ups reminded me of the ones I've had back in college days at Angora Cafe by BU. It is a tiny take-out spot, with a counter where you may place your order and a couple of refrigerators where you can grab a soda or a slice of cake/cheesecake for dessert. Not to say that you can't stay and eat - they do have 7 square tables set for 2 people apiece. Service was pleasant. The gentleman taking my order even made suggestions, but I ended up going with my original intention - the 1st listed specialty roll up, consisting of eggplant (breaded), roasted red peppers, mozzarella and the like for $7.50. It didn't take long to make, and when I requested it cut in two and separately wrapped, I wasn't made to feel a bother. Half the wrap made for a nice light meal. The other half is making for a nice light lunch to which I'm adding my leftover tiramisu from another meal. The red pepper was a little overwhelming - some additional eggplant and/or mozzarella might have helped. And the way the roll up was wrapped made for a rather high ratio of bread in my last bites by the end. But all in all, it was pretty good. Perhaps not a destination spot (unless you are hankering for some fro yo mentioned by other reviewees?), but a good place to stop by if you are in the area.

Chicken parmesan (without cheese) sub. Dry and too much salt in sauce. Disappointed!

Last week I ordered some food after they reopened after a renovation. Place looks nice. The food is hit and miss. Hopefully, this place will stop treating their fried chicken so poorly.

Broccoli chicken Alfredo calzone
Nisreen G.

Why oh why did I not know that chicken broccoli Alfredo CALZONES were a thing?? Did I miss the memo? Was I not at that reception? Did my invite get lost in the mail??!! Cafe Podima's calzones are cheesy pockets of delicious sauces and tastes covered in another layer of freshly melted cheese with slightly golden brown bubbles of awesomeness. I want nothing else but every single type of calzone they have. The Eggplant Parmesan has thick cut slices of breaded eggplant, extra Parmesan inside, and served with sweet marinara sauce and an extra chewy crust that makes me want to take this thing to bed. The cheese Calzone is stuffed with tons of cheeses one of which is ricotta. Wonderfully creamy ricotta. I'm getting a cheesegasm just thinking about it. Seriously, Cafe Podima is one of those pizza cafe's on the back of beacon hill you have to try. Its reasonably cheap and they're open pretty late and on grub hub and all those other sites so if your looking for a late night bite tis the place to enjoy. They also have pretty good sandwiches and roll ups ( way different then a wrap, they use lavish bread which is a bit heavy and flour-y compared to a tortilla wrap) but its the same level of well seasoned ingredients. My only qualm is with their delivery. While on a less busy night your food will be there in thirty minutes or less, when they're busy the food can take over an hour and there's no courtesy call or notification of the extra wait. A little unprofessional but I mean, stuff my face with that cheese calzone and I'll forget it ever happened, I promise.

One of the chicken sandwiches. Had avocado and a bunch of other goodies!

It is so easy to walk by this place and not even give it a second look, but this little sandwich shop is one of the best kept secret's of Beacon Hill. If you take a look at their menu you will see that they have almost 50 sandwiches. You can mix-and-match all kinds of ingredients. My absolute favorite sandwich to order is one of their hot sandwiches. I always choose focaccia bread. The sandwiches are large and incredibly filling. I usually have half a sandwich for lunch and save the other half for dinner. You can easily reheat them a little bit in the microwave if you'd like. Aside from the sandwiches, I love ordering their custom made ice cream. Yes you read that correctly. They use a base of vanilla soft serve and mix in whatever you'd like. Their ingredient list is a mile long. I usually choose peanut butter and milk chocolate chips. It is to die. They will do large orders but I'm not sure about delivery.

The "Boston College" - chicken salad, lettuce, tomato and bacon on grilled focaccia. Awesome sandwich!
Scott R.

I order delivery quite often and have to say that as far as sub shops/small restaurants go, I'd put Cafe Podima up around the top. The sandwiches are great and they offer a ton of different bread options. My favorite is the "Boston College" - chicken salad, lettuce, tomato and bacon on focaccia. It's a slam dunk. This is some of the best chicken salad I've had....and I'm picky about my chicken salad! Lean and not overly mayonnaised. Also have ordered the chef and chicken caesar salads. Everything (including the lettuce) was fresh and delicious....they have some great dressings as well (try the balsamic vinegar). The last of my favorites thus far is the chicken, ziti and broccoli entree. Perfectly cooked pasta/broccoli and not boatloads of alfredo sauce. They use the perfect amount, it's not a heavy alfredo but an extremely tasteful one. I've never experienced any problems with delayed delivery or inept delivery guys (as I have at plenty of other places). Simply put, the quality of food is well above average in this price category. You should order confidently from Cafe Podima -- I see many more in my future!

When you get your next frozen yogurt make sure there isn't lots of metal inside. theye don't remove the metal wrappers on the candy.

GOD BLESS AMERICA...and this sandwich!! Never have I ever had a better sub in my life. The bread,…read morethe meats, the toppings; everything tasted like the best of the best! Walking through the front door is like walking through a secret portal to Italy (I'm not kidding). The smells and sights of fresh meat hanging from the ceiling is what I imagine heaven to be like! I ordered the Italian sub. First of all, it is HUGE in both length and circumference. One sub can easily be split between two people. The bread-to-meat ratio is perfect. I could taste each individual ingredient with every bite, which is a unique experience that only happens when everything is fresh and flavorful as can be. I think this place just ruined subs for me because no other will come close to being THIS good. If I were on death row, this sandwich would be part of my last meal. I feel like I cannot adequately put into words just how amazing it is. Do yourself a favor and check this place out sooner than later! :)

As the name "Mercato" implies, it's not a restaurant, so no place to eat, no place to "do your business" after, and if you've made it to the north end, you already know there's no place to park. -- Italian Sandwich: Long, soft bread, kinda like the kind you had in your school cafeteria, only a million times softer, a million times more crackly, and a million times better. Setting the base are oil, balsamic vinegar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, hots, and provolone. Italian sandwiches usually come flat-stacked or in a C-shape. Here, it's a fluffy stack, with the VERY-thin-sliced-to-order meats-- prosciutto, mortadella, salami-- piled generously but delicately, like tissue paper. More oil and balsamic on the other side seals the deal. It's a glorious sandwich that'll fill you up with the first half, but you'll want to keep eating the second half, because it's so good. The deep flavors of the meats comes through, and that's soft, crunchy bread is a delight. Pro tip #1: Get it with a small side of pesto. Have some bites with, some bites without. Pro tip #2 (in more ways than one): Plan your restroom visit at the nearby Boston Public Market. Pro tip #3: Plan your eating near the Paul Revere statue on Hanover Street, at the basketball court down Stillman Street, or on the Greenway down Hanover Street.

I'd heard of Sam LaGrassa's for years but had never managed to make it there. My first introduction…read moreended up being at a corporate event in Boston's Seaport district, where lunch arrived courtesy of one of the city's best-known sandwich shops. The catering was impressive. Before anyone even took a bite. Every half sandwich was individually wrapped and clearly labeled, with salads and sides neatly organized, making it easy for a large group to grab lunch without the usual catering chaos. The choices were wide and varied. We took our lunches upstairs to a rooftop seating area overlooking the Seaport, which made for a pretty great setting on a beautiful afternoon. I chose the Gobbler, and it lived up to the hype I've since read in other reviews. At first glance it sounds like a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, but it's much more than that. The turkey was fresh and flavorful, and it was complemented by stuffing, cranberry sauce, spinach, pepper jack cheese, and just enough chipotle mayo to add an unexpected kick, without overwhelming everything else. It's one of those combinations that sounds busy on paper but comes together remarkably well. I spoke with several others over lunch, and they were equally impressed with their choices. That's always a good sign when you're feeding a crowd. It's one thing to make a great sandwich to order; it's another to deliver dozens of them catered while maintaining that level of quality. Since this was catered, I can't really comment on the restaurant itself. The service on the catering side, however, was evident in how thoughtfully everything was prepared and packaged, and the rooftop setting where we enjoyed lunch certainly didn't hurt. Needless to say, this won't be my last Sam LaGrassa's sandwich. I fully intend to visit the restaurant one of these days, and in the meantime I'll spend some time trying to recreate that Gobbler at home (maybe with sliced roasted chicken, but also with turkey when I have it). It was that good.

He ate his fresh and liked it enough to want to go back. He felt it was big enough to split into 2 meals, which is a plus since the prices here are pretty steep. I had mine cold, so I didn't like it as much. The tomatoes made the bread soggy, but the sandwich was packed with pastrami. The pickles they give though... so good and a perfect bite in between each sandwich bite or a good lil snack at the end. I like how they pack everything for take out. The boxes are secure, they don't skimp on the sauces and wrap them in plastic wrap and the pickles are in mini ziploc bags to ensure the juices don't spill on everything. Very thoughtful packaging. Since I ordered for pick up, they do have curbside where you double park out front and they can bring it to you, or you can run in and tell them the name it's under and they'll hand it to you when ready. For a Tuesday afternoon, service is not fast nor slow. The inside of the restaurant gave deli vibes, which I personally like. It's quite busy and they have some cool signs and photos up. I'll definitely be back to try it fresh!

While it is not life-changing, I still think it is a very solid breakfast sandwich that is well-balanced. I like the acidity of the red onions and the freshness of the avocado which balances out the oil and fat from the bacon and cheddar. As of August 2026, the website lists the burrito as $14, but the price on the in-person menu was $16. I would give the burrito 4 out of 5 stars because of the way it was wrapped - about a third of the burrito was just egg and cheese and the toppings (avocado, red onion, hash browns, salsa verde, crema) were crammed on the other side of the burrito. If there was a way for the burrito to be wrapped so all the ingredients were more evenly distributed - this would easily be a 5/5 breakfast burrito. One random detail that stuck out to me was that their drinks in their refrigerator were very cold - no lukewarm sodas here! I would come back here to try their signature "Fancy" sandwich. Overall, this is a very solid breakfast spot in Boston!

We both enjoyed to our hearts' delight, and the one dessert could have easily been shared with a third person. Our wait staff was so pleasant- friendly and warm from the start. We got lucky and grabbed a table but it felt like a miracle. This is really more of a takeout spot. The menu is simple: cold and hot sandwiches, about four or five options per category. The sandwiches were delicious, especially the Calabria, packed with prosciutto, spicy soppressata, hot capicola, sharp provolone, Calabrian chili aioli, and arugula. They couldn't substitute the arugula, so I skipped it but it was still the star of the show. My husband had the roast beef and it was good, but the Calabria won. Fair warning: these sandwiches are HUGE. We were so full from lunch we could barely finish dinner and my one regret was not splitting one. Come hungry or come with a plan! The place is a bit chaotic. It took close to 30 minutes to get our order; they were slammed. The guy at the counter was all over the place and forgot to give us our drinks or tell us to grab them from the fridge. But at $17 for a sandwich this thick and this good, it's a great deal in Boston's South End. The flavors made it all worth it.
