Latte and mocha

Rick (I think his name is) attitude is horrendous. He was only nice once I gave him a tip. The ambiance is cool but the espresso tastes bad.

Ice coffee to go in my hood

Cafe Martin makes some out standing coffee strong and bold. I decided to get an ice coffee to go which was delish. I like this neighborhood cafe it is small and sweet just like hanging out in your living room with friends. The merchant was friendly as well as the patrons. People said good morning with happy expressions on their faces awesome !!

Iced mocha

Barista was incredibly patient and kind, despite working solo on a busy Sunday afternoon. Incredibly charming neighborhood coffee shop. There's a small cash discount, so make sure to bring cash if possible!

Visited Cafe Martin for coffee on Sunday morning. I have been a few times over the past two weeks and the coffee and the service have been very inconsistent. On this occasion, the coffee had a bit of a burnt taste and I needed to repeat several requests while the barista put my coffee together to get things correct. Quality: Inconsistent would be how I summarize my experiences at Cafe Martin. And unfortunately the highs do not outweigh the lows. The coffee can be quite good, it tends to be served on the stronger side, but on my most recent trip it had an overwhelming burnt taste. They have a few pastries on display, but they never look very appetizing, this may be in part because of the poor lighting near the display. And with no seating inside, it is hard to even imagine if the cozy feel would make a visit better. Quantity: I do appreciate that almost every cup of iced coffee I received was about to overflow. Value: $4.25 for a Large Iced Drip Coffee. Ambiance: Cafe Martin is a small coffeeshop in Park Slope, Brooklyn. It is a very small space that only has two chairs out front where you can sit down with your coffee. One at a time you walk through to the back of the store and order. Four or five tiny tables are inside the dim space, and while it is cool the benches are church pews, I can't imagine they are super comfy. But it has an old school vibe, the music is always jazz or classical, and I'm sure some folks would be very productive working in the space. Crowd: The fact that they still only allow one customer in at a time is a huge winter deterrent, because people don't want to wait out in the cold when other options exist. However, there was almost always a person ordering inside when I stopped by. Service: Unpredictable. They have a rotating group of baristas, and because of the intimate experience of visiting during COVID, so much falls on who is there. And unfortunately it has been more bad than good. Apathy and requiring repeated requests is not the best experience. Parking: Street parking next to the park across the street.

It you are, like me, tired of gentrification. Support your local small businesses. Strong coffee served right!

Hot cocoa was delicious. Rich, slightly bitter, almost like a mocha, except no coffee.

Delicious cappuccino at a good price. I'm spoiled for good coffee after having one most mornings on the way to the train.

Iced coffee = full cup of ice and burnt watery coffee that gives stomach aches.

Delicious! Small, dark, welcoming cafe has the warm feel of an old Irish drinking establishment. Love that and the coffee.

If Martin is running the place then there's no point in me describing why you should go here... Glad you're back on the scene!

Combination of a great mocha with a nice, European cafe setting make this a winner.

Where is Martin? I haven't seen him for over a month.

I heard he is apprenticing as a cobbler now and fills in when needed.

You must have the Brussels sprouts!! I'd go back for those in a minute! I very much enjoyed my salmon dish. Lovely presentation and preparation but portion a bit small. However, the Brussels sprouts were so generous portion that even after sharing there was "take home" for us. The chocolate mousse was extraordinary! I don't even want to know the calorie count - but worth it!! My one negative was the chill of the Cabernet Yes, I know that's the trend but personally I prefer room temp especially in cold weather The restaurant owner was gracious, staff actually charming and accommodating We are recommending this place to family and friends and plan to return especially when going to BAM ENJOY!!

Walked in and was able to get a seat without reservation, but it definitely filled up by 6/7 pm. The place is dimly lit and the tables are quite small. For the food, we got their Brussel sprouts, shrimp, salmon entree and chicken entree. Our favorite were definitely the shrimp. But everything else when eaten together tasted a bit too greasy and felt monotonous in terms of flavor. Brussel sprouts were fried and held to a decent amount of oil, then the addition of tahini made it even more oily. Pan chicken we expected whole pieces of chicken but it was more like a thin chicken cutlet. The salmon came with a cauliflower puree which tasted so rich (with butter), but I couldn't finish it bc it was so rich.

People have left some odd reviews of this place, including a one-star review for the restaurant…read moreapparently being highly politicized--a vibe I neither felt nor could visually identify within or without the establishment. I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
