I have patronized Cafe M for many years. They have always had great service and food. This experience, unfortunately, wasn't that great, but I will consider this a one off and still look to patronize them in the future. The Chicken Pesto I had was dry and had no seasoning. The potatoes were bland and dry I took the whole meal home and tossed it. I opened up the crepe and there wasn't much pesto sauce inside :( The coffee tasted like hot water and it is usually very good. Not sure what happened there. The service was slow and our server's comment was 'it's the end of the day.' This comment concerned me because even if I come in towards the end of the day, if you choose to be open, please give me the same excellent service as if you just opened. Also, the bathroom was terrible and I did not like seeing it in the condition it was in. Someone should have cleaned it along the way so it didn't get this bad. I hope to have a better visit in the future.
Stopped here for breakfast on our way home from SF and we hit the jackpot! Loved this little place, very welcoming, great ambiance, super friendly staff, and amazing food. I had the "Blackstone" Eggs Benedict. It came with standard English muffin perfectly toasted, fresh chopped fried bacon, perfectly poached eggs, topped with a delicious and perfectly citrusy hollandaise. On the side were some tremendous fried potatoes (on a Blackstone???). Although the eggs Benedict were fantastic, the potatoes really got me excited. They weren't standard, they are somehow slightly smashed, perfectly seasoned, and fried so that a perfect crust is created. They are simply outstanding! Oh yeah, the coffee is good too. Highly recommend this place and I'll definitely be back next time I visit the bay.
Stopped In to grab a quick bite and couple drinks. Had a dance class after so we made sure not to fill up. Price for the mimosa was very reasonable ($27) the scrambler we got was good but I've had better at other places. Food was lacking seasoning / flavor, borderline bland. However staff were all very nice and establishment was clean, so were their bathrooms. Seating outside was beautiful but it was a little chilly for me. Parking is mildly hard.
Been coming to Cafe M since 2018, and usually, it's a smooth operation. Space is a solid size with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the food always hits. Pulled up on a Sunday early afternoon with a friend. I went with the freshly squeezed OJ and the breakfast combo - French toast, two eggs, and chicken apple sausage. Everything was delicious, but that French toast was easily the star of the show. The food wasn't the issue; the kitchen communication was. We ordered, settled in, and then watched every single table seated after us get their food while we sat there starving. After 45 minutes of playing the waiting game, we asked what was going on and found out our order was never even entered into the system. Heavy lapse in service. Management and our waitress apologized and comped an appetizer, which I appreciated. Mistakes happen, but sitting for almost an hour watching everyone else eat was a test of patience. I'll still be back because that French toast is top tier, but hopefully, the kitchen system gets it together next time.
Great food, good service in a relaxed atmosphere. We got to sit outside and enjoy the start to a great Sunday. Pricing is a little steep, over $20 for a breakfast dish, which makes family of 4 , two adults breakfast and 2 kids pancakes, $81 :-( Parking is a little hard to find, but we got lucky front row.
We had a great experience with Cafe M. They were able to quickly accommodate our group of 7. We started off with drinks - some got hot chocolate, lattes, and a carafe of pomegranate mimosas. Everyone ordered their food and there were no complaints. This was our first time trying this place and loved the vibe and family feel. We will come again when we're in the area!
We chose Cafe M because it came up on my search of dog-friendly restaurants. It was Father's Day, so the place was busy, but they had room in their outdoor tables across the driveway. I had the chicken quesadilla with a side of sour cream and a side of fruit. My husband had the crabcake benedict. He liked the benedict very well, but did not love the potatoes, which seemed like very thick hash browns. My quesadilla, which included sliced avocado inside, were excellent. The accompanying black beans were great, as was the cup of fruit. My dog, Zoey, had no complaints!
First off it's hard to find the place but that could be due to Apple Maps. We had the pesto scramble with potatoes and sour dough "toast" the Scramble was ok, the potatoes were stale and hard and the toast was soggy. The decor is nice though. The best part was the friendly waitress and fresh squeezed juice. Other than that, food is MID.
I haven't been to a true 5-star brunch in a while... this was it for me. From the absolutely incredible service (kind, respectful, polite, efficient, even in the busiest of times of the year), to the great decor and spaciousness of the restaurant itself, to the FANTASTIC food and drinks... Wow. What a spectacular experience. I shared one sweet and one savory option with a friend: the Chicken Chorizo Scrambler (absolutely delectable cheesy flavorful eggs, with the yummiest side of potatoes I've had in a long time) and three Blueberry Pancakes (ultra soft, topped with a mouth-watering maple cinnamon butter). I also got a hot matcha latte with soy milk, a creamy sweet treat that warmed me up from the inside on that cold rainy day. Would absolutely order all three again, though I'd also not hesitate to try any of the other menu items. Can't wait to come back!
Absolutely delicious. Checked Yelp for some of their most popular things which ended up to be the Chicken Pesto Crepe and the Coconut French Toast and they definitely did not disappoint. I could totally see why those were some of the most commonly ordered fishes at Cafe M because they were both so good! The Chicken Pesto Crepe was absolutely delicious and what made them even better were their homemade potatoes, perfectly seasoned and also their texture was great. Once we got tired of eating salty, we switched to the Coconut French Toast and it was also very tasty; the coconut flakes were such a great addition to something so standard. I would come back again and get these two things again because that's how good they were. Overall, 4.6 stars for me and I definitely will be back!
I enjoyed Cafe M. On a weekend, the wait is bananas, but mid-week for lunch, there was no problem snagging a table. It's 4th street, so there's always a lot of parking, but also not, it's busy. The menu has something for everyone. From sweet and savory, breakfast and lunch. I can see why it's beloved. I went with the crab cake crepe - and I liked, not loved. The crab cake was subtle and fine, with spinach, avocado, and cheese, but it was missing something. I feel like an egg would have made it all come together? I opted for a side salad in lieu of the breakfast potatoes, and it was a lot of food. I do think if you are a crab fan, you'll enjoy it! My uncle went with the eggs and hash and thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices are high ($20+), but food is quality and servings large. Service was great, although the tables and chairs were a bit shotty and not the most comfortable. Overall, a really solid choice for brunch!
Let me tell you about Cafe M - the 'M' must stand for "Mmmmm-mazing!" I stepped in expecting a regular brunch, but what I got was a culinary journey to Flavortown! The staff greeted me like I was long lost royalty from a forgotten breakfast kingdom. I ordered the egg scramble, which, by the way, is code for "a bite of heaven wrapped in a cloud of yum." It had zucchini (because, ya know, we gotta pretend to be healthy), cheese (to balance out that healthiness), pesto (because why not add a fancy twist?), and eggs (duh, it's a scramble). But let's have a moment of silence for those breakfast potatoes... crisped to perfection, seasoned like they've traveled the seven seas, and fluffy inside as if they're holding on to all of breakfast's secrets. They were the unsung heroes of the dish. Would I come back? That's like asking if potatoes are the backbone of a good breakfast. 10/10 - highly recommend! P.S. If Cafe M had a fan club, I'd be president. read more
TLDR: easy parking + gluten free blue corn pancakes = winning combo! Who knew we could grab a booth on a holiday with no reservation at a restaurant on fourth street? I know, my mind was blown. I even scored yummy gluten free pancakes, something I haven't had in a restaurant in a long while. And the waiter was nice and attentive as well. The ambiance was chill, despite that the menu said that on weekends/ holidays, they request 75 minute long meal service only lol. Will be back for the pancakes for sure! read more
the perfect breakfast to pair with a walk to the marina or a 4th street shopping trip! great service, and the food comes pretty fast! the vibes inside are very cheesecake factory combined with a diner! chicken pesto crepe - the portion size is huge!! its well seasoned, and they do not skimp on the filling of the crepe! i also love the potatos! my friends got the classic benedict and basic breakfast, and they thought it was pretty solid! nothing extraordinary, but a good place to grab a bite if you're in the area! read more

The corned beef hash here is definitely worth a try. It gets pretty busy in the mornings even on the weekdays. They have indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. The staff was nice and attentive. The inside is pretty big but you may have trouble finding parking. read more

Oh mah word! I almost did not dine here because I am only familiar with Oceanview Diner. Thank goodness I gave Cafe M a try. I have past by Cafe M in the afternoon before they closed for the day. It is quiet in the afternoon. I had Cafe M on a beauty Saturday Morning after working four hours shift. I will not regret that I gave Cafe M a try. My Basic Breakfast was AMAZING! Big slices of bacon and amazing tasting potatoes! I love how the potatoes looked like and how great it tasted. I never had potatoes that looked good and tasted amazing! When I am in Fourth Street I will definitely come to Cafe M and not use the restroom at Peet's Coffee to wash my hands. Cafe M has a restroom to wash my lovely hands. read more

Cafe M is always solid and reliable. It's one of two main brunch places around Fourth Street, and sometimes there's a wait on the weekends. There's a decent amount of seating inside and outside. My go-to dish is the Homemade Beef Hash, but I also enjoy the Basic Breakfast and Stuffed French Toast. Other highlights include the Eggs Blackstone and Miguel Moraga. Compared to other brunch places, Cafe M gives pretty generous potions (including for the scramblers... I always seem to have leftovers!). If you want a drink, I'd recommend just getting the coffee which comes with free refills. I think it's a bit ridiculous that a glass of small orange juice costs $7.00 (and $9.00 for a large glass), but otherwise, the cost is reasonable for the area. read more

Went there with the wifey for breakfast. Great service and food was brought out quick. I had the chorizo scramble with avocado on top and mocha. The breakfast was filling and was good. The potato's at the bottom of the hash could have used a bit more seasoning but was good overall. I had an iced mocha and that was good as well. My wife had French toast and bacon. The toast was French toast and the bacon was really good! Food is a bit more expensive than average but will come back again. read more

Late breakfast on a week day and wanting to try a new place on 4th Street rather than the tried and proven ocean view diner. Lately I have been craving for hash brown with very crispy outer layer and meaty potatoes. Came upon this place nearby, no waiting to be seated at such a late hour. So I ordered the breakfast with poached eggs, sausage, hash browns and sour dough toast with ice tea. I rarely order poached eggs so this was a change for me. I really didn't k ow what to expect. Two poached eggs in a bowl. All good. The star of my meal, the hash brown, although plenty it didn't hit the mark, I didn't specify when ordering and obviously it wasn't the way this place does it. I know better next time. The rest of the meal was fine. The place had a very family friendly vibe, servers were pleasant and food was good. read more
Miracle on 4th Street!!! Hahaha! There were no divine experience when my co-workers and I went for a brunch at Cafe M on 4th street last Tuesday. But what we were grateful for was we went there spontaneously not knowing what to expect but yet had a good dining experience. We were craving for brunch and needed to go somewhere close to work. So we decided to go to Cafe M for brunch. I ordered the crab cake benedict and my co-workers ordered the Irish benedict and the scrambler and with coffees for three. After our first two bites, it was clear we made the right choice. The food were delicious. My co-workers gave me props for finding this miracle. So the venue looks cozy with Mid-century designed and spacious. There are seatings both indoors and outdoors. To top it off, we received good customer service. I'm beginning to think that M stands for miracle! We definitely felt blessed after our meal! So, when your in the area, check out Cafe M on 4th street, I know we will again! read more

Came here for brunch and it was better than I expected. Super homey and friendly ambiance with great service. I think this place is more American than it is any other cuisine. I got the crab benedict and switched out the potatoes for a salad. The hollandaise is a bit more on the sour side, crab cakes had chilis but also really tasty, and there was a sufficient amount of different components to the salad which was nice. 8/10, better than other brunch places around. read more
Cute, comfortable cafe for breakfast or lunch. Came here for lunch and it was delightful. Friendly efficient staff and sitting outdoors was delightful. I had a chicken club sandwich with fries and both were perfect. I enjoyed the way the chicken was marinated and the aioli sauce was light and flavorful. The fries were thick and just the way I like them. My dining companion had a chicken chorizo scramble and enjoyed it, along with a chai latte with oat milk. I came here at 10am on a Sunday and I was surprised to see how packed it was. Featured here is the classic french toast, chicken pesto crepe, and eggs milan scrambler. I personally got the eggs milan scrambler with an english muffin. This is great for those that don't want to eat meat in the morning. I definitely think this is great for a savory meal. The prices for these plates were ~$18. It is quite pricey from some breakfast but at this economy, it's "normal". Service was average. Parking near the area is possible to find but it is a crowded area with 4th St stores being near by. read more

Love this place! Service is always quick and the food is always served hot and fresh. They have a good amount of outdoor seating, and there's quite a few attractions that are walking distance. I believe the owners are the same owners from Doyle Street, another one of my favorite spots! The menu has some similarities as well, so I ordered one of the items I typically order at Doyle Street. I highly recommend ordering one of the benedicts and also trying their Berkeley Hills Scrambler. The food was tasty, service was great, parking wasn't too difficult, and enjoyed a nice post-brunch walk. Check them out! read more

No reservations so we got there early to secure a table for a group of 7. Gave us the option to eat outdoors (seated right away) or eat indoors (wait was like 20 mins). We decided to wait for indoors since it was a bit cold. They took our number and said they would text/call us when ready. We walked to Peets to grab a coffee and once I ordered, they called. Good sign, made me think that service was fast. Once seated, the menu was extensive and everything sounded delicious. I ordered the Delmar Crepe and it was delicious. Real crab, avocado wrapped in a delicate fresh crepe! Perfection! And yes, the potatoes were soo good. Right amount of crispy and seasoning. Prob the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. Berkeley boasts an impressive number of solid brunch spots, and Cafe M is no exception. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday noon and faced a reasonably short wait time of ~20 minutes. We ordered a stack of pancakes, coconut French toast, and a corned beef hash to share. The pancakes were good but nothing to write home about: just a regular degular stack of classic buttermilk pancakes you'd find your dad cooking on a lax weekend morning. The corned beef hash was also good; it wasn't too salty nor under seasoned. The jammy eggs on top made the dish even richer and added a nice contrast to the jerky-like beef bits. The real winner, though, was the coconut French toast. Truly one of the best French toasts I've ever had, the coconut French toast comes with shredded coconut, fresh fruit, and a dollup of perfectly sweetened whipped cream. While heavy, the dish is insanely addictive, and even when full, you can't help but go in for just one more bite. The service is also very attentive, and the waiters are incredibly sweet. Overall, a great brunch place but such is expected when located in the the tourist-populated Fourth Street. read more

Out on a beautiful, sunny, Saturday and head to Cafe M for a lunch. My son and I shared the crab crepe with house potatoes and my daughter had the house French toast made with Hawaiian bread. Everything was fantastic! The crepe had spinach, avocado and crab with a cheesy Hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were also fun - thinly sliced and cooked tender with a golden brown crust. They were also perfectly seasoned. The French toast were these thick pieces of toast with a cinnamon butter and maple syrup. It was all good! read more

Lots of reviews said great things about the stuffed French toast and the huevos rancheros - I went with the second. The huevos rancheros were good, but not amazing - although the pork was tender and the black beans had a nice texture. The wait staff seemed very busy so I had to flag them down to order. If I was in the area and a friend suggested Cafe M then I would eat here again (I do think it was an above-average brunch place), but I wouldn't recommend it to foodies visiting the Bay Area. read more

We were furniture shopping around Berkeley downtown and stumbled upon this place. We really enjoyed our experience here. Tasty coffee and delicious pancakes! The kids got Mickey pancakes with bacon and fruit. The loved it!! We got the Aztec Huevos Rancheros which was absolutely delicious! Service was good ! They even gave the kids activity sheets and crayons to stay busy! Casual ambience and no wait time. read more
