Cafe M is always solid and reliable. It's one of two main brunch places around Fourth Street, and sometimes there's a wait on the weekends. There's a decent amount of seating inside and outside. My go-to dish is the Homemade Beef Hash, but I also enjoy the Basic Breakfast and Stuffed French Toast. Other highlights include the Eggs Blackstone and Miguel Moraga. Compared to other brunch places, Cafe M gives pretty generous potions (including for the scramblers... I always seem to have leftovers!). If you want a drink, I'd recommend just getting the coffee which comes with free refills. I think it's a bit ridiculous that a glass of small orange juice costs $7.00 (and $9.00 for a large glass), but otherwise, the cost is reasonable for the area. read more

Went there with the wifey for breakfast. Great service and food was brought out quick. I had the chorizo scramble with avocado on top and mocha. The breakfast was filling and was good. The potato's at the bottom of the hash could have used a bit more seasoning but was good overall. I had an iced mocha and that was good as well. My wife had French toast and bacon. Late breakfast on a week day and wanting to try a new place on 4th Street rather than the tried and proven ocean view diner. Lately I have been craving for hash brown with very crispy outer layer and meaty potatoes. Came upon this place nearby, no waiting to be seated at such a late hour. So I ordered the breakfast with poached eggs, sausage, hash browns and sour dough toast with ice tea. I rarely order poached eggs so this was a change for me. I really didn't k ow what to expect. Two poached eggs in a bowl. All good. The star of my meal, the hash brown, although plenty it didn't hit the mark, I didn't specify when ordering and obviously it wasn't the way this place does it. Miracle on 4th Street!!! Hahaha! There were no divine experience when my co-workers and I went for a brunch at Cafe M on 4th street last Tuesday. But what we were grateful for was we went there spontaneously not knowing what to expect but yet had a good dining experience. We were craving for brunch and needed to go somewhere close to work. So we decided to go to Cafe M for brunch. I ordered the crab cake benedict and my co-workers ordered the Irish benedict and the scrambler and with coffees for three. After our first two bites, it was clear we made the right choice. The food were delicious. My co-workers gave me props for finding this miracle. So the venue looks cozy with Mid-century designed and spacious. There are seatings both indoors and outdoors. To top it off, we received good customer service. Came here for brunch and it was better than I expected. Super homey and friendly ambiance with great service. I think this place is more American than it is any other cuisine. I got the crab benedict and switched out the potatoes for a salad. The hollandaise is a bit more on the sour side, crab cakes had chilis but also really tasty, and there was a sufficient amount of different components to the salad which was nice. 8/10, better than other brunch places around. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed Cafe M, because I've been here several times. This time I brought my family with me. During the week, you can get in with no wait. Friday-Sunday, be ready for a wait. It's located in an area where there is plenty of shopping in case there is a long wait. Their French toast is delicious! Pancake is decent but French toast is where it's at. The scrambles are also a winner. The potato's are crispy on the outside but soft and yummy on the inside. I had a chicken club sandwich with fries and both were perfect. I enjoyed the way the chicken was marinated and the aioli sauce was light and flavorful. I came here at 10am on a Sunday and I was surprised to see how packed it was. Featured here is the classic french toast, chicken pesto crepe, and eggs milan scrambler. The prices for these plates were ~$18. It is quite pricey from some breakfast but at this economy, it's "normal". Service was average. Love this place! Service is always quick and the food is always served hot and fresh. They have a good amount of outdoor seating, and there's quite a few attractions that are walking distance. I believe the owners are the same owners from Doyle Street, another one of my favorite spots! The menu has some similarities as well, so I ordered one of the items I typically order at Doyle Street. I highly recommend ordering one of the benedicts and also trying their Berkeley Hills Scrambler. The waitress here is rude (Hispanic, very short with slick back hair style.) went for brunch today around 11. We ordered tea and asked a waitress for milk. Waited for over 5 mins, tea got cold. Flagged down another waitress and she gas lit me b/ I told her what happened. She said, "She said she will bring it, so just wait." We found her super rude. We waited and waited not one person was getting milk for the tea. Finally flagged down a different waitress and she was nice and brought it. Tea was cold by then. My family, friends and I will not be back. This was our favorite spot but the crab cake Benedict isn't as good today and waitress was terrible. Berkeley boasts an impressive number of solid brunch spots, and Cafe M is no exception. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday noon and faced a reasonably short wait time of ~20 minutes. We ordered a stack of pancakes, coconut French toast, and a corned beef hash to share. The pancakes were good but nothing to write home about: just a regular degular stack of classic buttermilk pancakes you'd find your dad cooking on a lax weekend morning. The corned beef hash was also good; it wasn't too salty nor under seasoned. The jammy eggs on top made the dish even richer and added a nice contrast to the jerky-like beef bits. The real winner, though, was the coconut French toast. Truly one of the best French toasts I've ever had, the coconut French toast comes with shredded coconut, fresh fruit, and a dollup of perfectly sweetened whipped cream. While heavy, the dish is insanely addictive, and even when full, you can't help but go in for just one more bite. The service is also very attentive, and the waiters are incredibly sweet. Overall, a great brunch place but such is expected when located in the the tourist-populated Fourth Street. read more

This is a cute cafe on the 4th street; recommend! We were a group of 6 and without a reservation were seated within 15 minutes on a Sunday (nice!) The food was served with a reasonable wait and everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was great except for the wait for paying the bill that I ended up taking care of at the register. The only downside to our experience was that this place didn't have any fans for a hot day which made our group eat quickly to just get out. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the sauce was not classic, the flavor was off and kinda tasted like a dressed up mix, not OK in my book for any breakfast place. I called her out on it and she gaslit me and said it was due to a pick-up, then took my comments about her illogical nonsense, and told me she knew "logic too" like a total jerk. Out on a beautiful, sunny, Saturday and head to Cafe M for a lunch. My son and I shared the crab crepe with house potatoes and my daughter had the house French toast made with Hawaiian bread. Everything was fantastic! The crepe had spinach, avocado and crab with a cheesy Hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were also fun - thinly sliced and cooked tender with a golden brown crust. The huevos rancheros were good, but not amazing - although the pork was tender and the black beans had a nice texture. The wait staff seemed very busy so I had to flag them down to order. If I was in the area and a friend suggested Cafe M then I would eat here again (I do think it was an above-average brunch place), but I wouldn't recommend it to foodies visiting the Bay Area. read more

Gave us a chance to walk around and go into a few shops. Service: very good! Our waitress was very personable and fun to talk to. Food: I wanted to order EVERYTHING! I was so hungry... I decided on the chicken pesto crepe with breakfast potatoes. It was very good! Lots of mushrooms and cheese, which I absolutely love! My friend ordered the stuffed French toast. I tried it and it was very sweet for me, but he seemed to like it. My partner and I were feeling for something brunch-y today and since we were at Berkeley, we decided to hit up Cafe M. I've only been here once before and that was years ago, but they are a solid brunch spot! They have plenty of seats both outdoors and indoors, I don't think you have to worry about wait time. I originally wanted to check if we can do reservation beforehand, but no reservation was necessary, even though we ended up going around 1PM on a Saturday! We opted for outdoor seating since indoors were full. Even for a gloomy day, outdoor seating wasn't too bad. I'm not quite sure if they have a parking lot or if it's usually converted to a seating area, but there's street parking around. You might just need to walk a bit. Their menu selection is pretty extensive, but I ended up opting for a Portabella Benedict (no cheese), while my partner went for the Delmar Crepe. We also ordered a Chai Latte with Almond Milk, and fresh orange juice. Our mains probably took around 10-15 mins to come out, so it wasn't bad even with a full house. My Chai Latte was pretty good! Full of spicy notes to it and perfect way to warm up on a slightly chilly day. Both of our main dishes come with a side of Breakfast Potatoes. For my Portabella Benedict, they gave plenty of Portabella mushrooms and these were absolutely delicious because I just love mushrooms, haha. Add that with slices of avocado and a runny egg, PERFECT! All of my favorite stuff in on dish! I might be biased, but this was yummy, haha. The only thing was that my English muffins got soggy pretty quickly. For my side of Breakfast Potatoes, there were pretty tasty too. I think they scalloped the potatoes, seasoned it really well and probably pan fried it. It was delicious, with a nice crispy exterior, but also a bit of an overkill (for me). There were soooo much potatoes. If I was going home straight away, I probably would have taken the leftovers home. They were really filling too. I kind of wish they offered other sides like salad or fruits to go with any main dish, but my partner really enjoyed his potatoes! Also, I only tried a bite of my partner's Delmar Crepe, but I thought the crab cake in there was alright. Service here was quick and sweet! Our server checked in on us from time to time and had a really sweet and friendly attitude. All in all, a really satisfying lunch! Would definitely come back if I'm around Berkeley. read more
