Finally got the chance to eat at Cafe M this past Sunday! Seems to be a great place for brunch, as it was pretty busy when we arrived. 30 min wait was not bad at all. Gave us a chance to walk around and go into a few shops. Service: very good! Our waitress was very personable and fun to talk to. Food: I wanted to order EVERYTHING! I was so hungry... I decided on the chicken pesto crepe with breakfast potatoes. It was very good! Lots of mushrooms and cheese, which I absolutely love! My friend ordered the stuffed French toast. I tried it and it was very sweet for me, but he seemed to like it. Giving 4 stars just because we were seated close to the bushes and underneath the trees that drop a ton of sap and you will definitely have to shoo away those pesky green bugs. read more

The waitress here is rude (Hispanic, very short with slick back hair style.) went for brunch today around 11. We ordered tea and asked a waitress for milk. Waited for over 5 mins, tea got cold. Flagged down another waitress and she gas lit me b/ I told her what happened. She said, "She said she will bring it, so just wait." We found her super rude. We waited and waited not one person was getting milk for the tea. Finally flagged down a different waitress and she was nice and brought it. Tea was cold by then. My family, friends and I will not be back. This was our favorite spot but the crab cake Benedict isn't as good today and waitress was terrible. My partner and I were feeling for something brunch-y today and since we were at Berkeley, we decided to hit up Cafe M. I've only been here once before and that was years ago, but they are a solid brunch spot! They have plenty of seats both outdoors and indoors, I don't think you have to worry about wait time. I originally wanted to check if we can do reservation beforehand, but no reservation was necessary, even though we ended up going around 1PM on a Saturday! We opted for outdoor seating since indoors were full. Even for a gloomy day, outdoor seating wasn't too bad. I'm not quite sure if they have a parking lot or if it's usually converted to a seating area, but there's street parking around. You might just need to walk a bit. Their menu selection is pretty extensive, but I ended up opting for a Portabella Benedict (no cheese), while my partner went for the Delmar Crepe. We also ordered a Chai Latte with Almond Milk, and fresh orange juice. Our mains probably took around 10-15 mins to come out, so it wasn't bad even with a full house. My Chai Latte was pretty good! Full of spicy notes to it and perfect way to warm up on a slightly chilly day. Both of our main dishes come with a side of Breakfast Potatoes. For my Portabella Benedict, they gave plenty of Portabella mushrooms and these were absolutely delicious because I just love mushrooms, haha. Add that with slices of avocado and a runny egg, PERFECT! All of my favorite stuff in on dish! I might be biased, but this was yummy, haha. The only thing was that my English muffins got soggy pretty quickly. For my side of Breakfast Potatoes, there were pretty tasty too. I think they scalloped the potatoes, seasoned it really well and probably pan fried it. It was delicious, with a nice crispy exterior, but also a bit of an overkill (for me). There were soooo much potatoes. If I was going home straight away, I probably would have taken the leftovers home. They were really filling too. I kind of wish they offered other sides like salad or fruits to go with any main dish, but my partner really enjoyed his potatoes! Also, I only tried a bite of my partner's Delmar Crepe, but I thought the crab cake in there was alright. Service here was quick and sweet! I had a nice brunch at this place on Sunday. They do say that they show proof of vax for all diners and are strict about indoor masking, but since we ate outdoors, that was less of a concern. I wasn't totally sure where to park for this place and even though the address is on 4th, it's kind of in between 4th and 5th on a sidestreet. Not too hard to find though. The food was really delicious. We asked if they made their salsa in house and they said they did. The heuvos rancheros were especially delicious with tomatillo and pico de gallo salsas on top. This is a cute cafe on the 4th street; recommend! We were a group of 6 and without a reservation were seated within 15 minutes on a Sunday (nice!) So excited to eat here for the 1st time. I am a bit of an Eggs Benedict connoisseur and found Cafe Ms to be disappointing. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the sauce was not classic, the flavor was off and kinda tasted like a dressed up mix, not OK in my book for any breakfast place. I called her out on it and she gaslit me and said it was due to a pick-up, then took my comments about her illogical nonsense, and told me she knew "logic too" like a total jerk. If I walked passed you, ignored you, and gaslit you, you wouldn't be overwhelmed, you'd be a repugnant attitude, and in this case a disparaging hostess. I've gone here several times over the years when I visit Berkeley from LA so this review is overdue. This is a solid brunch spot with a reasonable wait time in comparison to what used to be Bette's down the way. Parking is mainly street but there's a paid lot as well. My bf and I were here on a Saturday around 1 and there was no wait for outside table but approx 30-40 min for indoors. We would've preferred indoors since it was a chilly day but we were hungry. We shared the Berkeley Hills scrambler which was nice and cheesy, wish there were more potatoes but that's ok. We also got the combo breakfast with French toast which was absolute delicious! It has a good crisp on the outside but nice and moist inside. My only complaint was not enough of the maple cinnamon butter. read more

Pictures may say a 1000 words, but read the reviews! We've been to Cafe M before, but it had been a hot minute, and wanted to enjoy brunch outdoors. They turn off the Yelp reservations for weekends, which adds to the 45-60 plus minute wait time. Thankfully, there are shops to walk through while you're waiting to be seated. Side note: the shops have changed and are far less interesting than they used to be. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for the lovely outdoor experience. Let's talk wait staff... the lovely people that make sure your water glasses are kept full, the ones that clear the tables, are all lovely. Our actual server was rude. She was curt, impatient, and only stopped by the table twice. Once to take our order, the other to drop off the bill. Had she stopped by the table to check on us, and to check on our food/order, I may not have gotten sick from the food. I ordered a mocha and asked for either almond or oat milk. She assured me that they had almond milk, and would use that as a substitute. I found out after the fact that they used dairy milk. That's something that every lactose intolerant person wants. I ordered the crab crepe. It was filled with a lot of fresh crab, and looked delicious. The potatoes that came with my meal were cooked properly, but lacked flavor. Salt only helped a tad. Frankly, based on how sick I ended up getting ( three days of being severely ill) I'm convinced that there was something wrong with my food as well. I had shared some with my son, and he ended up not feeling well either. He had the French toast, and I didn't. List of French toast was amazing and the crab Benedict next time I'm going to do the coconut French toast!! I got a chai latte that was OK. Came here for brunch on a weekday and we were seated right away in the spacious cafe. My sister and I ordered the chicken pesto crepe, wet burrito, and stuffed French toast. The chicken pesto crepe was super flavorful I loved the combination of all the flavors and it also had mushrooms and cheese in it which made it ten times better. The potatoes were a bit bland but with some ketchup and hot sauce it wasn't noticeable. The wet burrito was also really tasty, it didn't have a ton of different items inside the burrito but the sausage and eggs went really well together! The server helping us had a great attitude on Easter. She even wore bunny ears to make the day a bit more festive. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a breakfast cafe. Just casual and small tables. My mom and nieces also ordered matcha lattes. They looked great. I really enjoy the breakfast potatoes sliced like this and cooked well done. So much flavor and texture. Came here for brunch on an early Sunday, and there was a little bit of a wait, but we just killed time by walking around 4th St. Be sure to check in on the yelp waitlist and you won't have to wait as long! We didn't know they used Yelp waitlist until we arrived, so we had to wait a bit longer. Since they have extra outdoor seating though, it wasn't too bad. I had the Miguel Moraga and really enjoyed it! It's full of tasty toppings and the avocado and pico paired well with it. The hash was really well done too. **LOCATION** This cafe is located on a street corner with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's off of a busy street with many cute restaurants and stores so parking can be a real pain. You might get lucky with finding free curbside parking on one of the residential streets but there's also metered street parking and a few self-pay lots if you can't find any. **WAIT TIME** We went for a very very late Sunday brunch at 2pm so there was pretty much no wait. We put our names down on the iPad in front of the restaurant and got a text about 10 minutes later saying that our table was ready. It's nice that there's a lot of shops around to browse while you wait. We were seated in the farthest inside corner of the restaurant. **FOOD** Everything on the menu looked soooo good but I think that might've been because we were both starving. We ended up with the combo breakfast (with French toast, over medium eggs and bacon) and Berkeley hills scrambler (with English muffin). The French toast was delicious smothered in cinnamon butter and absolutely *chef's kiss*. I'm not usually a huge fan of cinnamon but could definitely eat that butter by itself all day long. I liked the scrambler with the scalloped potatoes on the bottom because the sizzling plate made them nice and crispy. One minor complaint was that by the time the scrambler came out, the Swiss cheese layer on top had cooled so it was more like a piece of floppy rubber instead of being nice and gooey (aka having a cheese pull worthy of an ig story hehe). Otherwise, both items were pretty yummy and I would get them again! **SERVICE** Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She was fast at taking our orders and checked on us the right amount during our meal. **AMBIENCE** To me, the interior and decor is typical to that of a slightly upper scale diner brunch type of place. I love this place. It's super busy on the weekend, but very relaxed on a weekday. I always come during brunch and I love the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. My husband gets the Eggs Milan and substitutes the zucchini with tomato, which is the way they used to make the dish. I also always get an Earl Grey Latte, but I didn't grab a picture of it. It's a generous sized mug and sweetened to perfection. Service is quick and the portions are generous. I'll always come back to this place. There is outdoor seating and some people bring their pets, which is always nice. Fourth Street is a fun area with a few shops to walk around and visit. The hollandaise was way too thick and unflavorful and the crab cakes were very fish along with the cheese combination not being a great choice IMO. So this spot was recommended by a friend. Him and I came here after we got off of our shift first thing in the morning before they opened. Staff was so nice, they let us sit down and browse the menu 10 minutes prior to officially opening. Came out to Cafe M as the winner of one of two decisions based on wait times. They had a couple of outdoor tables that might be a bit wiggly but will do just fine. I had the delmar crepe that was stuffed with crab cake meat as well as shared the tequila sunrise drankkk. The crepe with side of potatoes was filling and had to share it. I just needed to add a bit of ketchup and pepper to the potatoes, but all was well. Tequila sunrise came out pretty and delicious.
