Corn beef hash, really a bunch of red peppers and onions. It was horrible.
    Elle N.

This is one of the worst breakfast meals I've had in twenty years! The service was equally disappointing. After spending $107.00, I left feeling disgusted -- and this was a place recommended by a client. The food had absolutely no flavor. How corned beef hash can be that dry, even smothered in a pound of onions and peppers, is beyond me. The eggs were cooked perfectly -- I'll give them that. The server suggested the pancakes, which were as hard as three-day-old bread. When we asked for more jam -- because I only wanted the English muffins -- the server actually questioned us about it. The audacity was remarkable, especially when you're paying their bills. I literally left my entire plate untouched after just a few bites. If you enjoy hard pancakes and food that belongs in a nursing home cafeteria, this place is for you. But if you want delicious, seasoned, fresh food and don't want to regret spending $107.00 -- when Burger King honestly tastes better -- avoid this place. That 4-star rating they're barely holding onto says it all.

Great food, good service in a relaxed atmosphere. We got to sit outside and enjoy the start to a great Sunday. Pricing is a little steep, over $20 for a breakfast dish, which makes family of 4 , two adults breakfast and 2 kids pancakes, $81 :-( Parking is a little hard to find, but we got lucky front row.

The Japanese matcha was so good!!!

Quick service even when they looked pretty packed! The food was great and prices were pretty fair, they were able to accommodate our large party!

I haven't been to a true 5-star brunch in a while... this was it for me. From the absolutely incredible service (kind, respectful, polite, efficient, even in the busiest of times of the year), to the great decor and spaciousness of the restaurant itself, to the FANTASTIC food and drinks... Wow. What a spectacular experience. I shared one sweet and one savory option with a friend: the Chicken Chorizo Scrambler (absolutely delectable cheesy flavorful eggs, with the yummiest side of potatoes I've had in a long time) and three Blueberry Pancakes (ultra soft, topped with a mouth-watering maple cinnamon butter). I also got a hot matcha latte with soy milk, a creamy sweet treat that warmed me up from the inside on that cold rainy day. Would absolutely order all three again, though I'd also not hesitate to try any of the other menu items. Can't wait to come back!

Café M was a really nice experience overall. I had the Del Mar crepe, which is stuffed with crab cakes, baby spinach, avocado, Havarti cheese, and caramelized onions, then topped with hollandaise and served with breakfast potatoes. It was delicious rich, flavorful, and definitely something I'd order again. I also had a Japanese matcha latte, and that was really good too. I tried a pancake, and it was just okay. Texture was there, but it was missing a bit of flavor for me. I might give it another try, but it wasn't my favorite thing on the table. Huge shout out to our server Sabrina... she was the bomb. Super attentive, friendly, and really made the experience better. Give her a raise. The restaurant itself was pretty clean overall. I did check one of the bathrooms and it could use a little bit of a facelift, but my friend used the other one and said it was fine. It's a chill spot with good food, a nice environment, and friendly staff. I really enjoyed myself and would definitely come back. Flavor Profile (for reference): Umami-forward (savory, salty depth) Acidic or bright (tangy + sour) Pungent & intense (spicy + bitter notes) Drink Preference (for reference): Bitter-forward cocktails Balanced acidity Light sweetness only, not overly sugary

I enjoyed Cafe M. On a weekend, the wait is bananas, but mid-week for lunch, there was no problem snagging a table. It's 4th street, so there's always a lot of parking, but also not, it's busy. The menu has something for everyone. From sweet and savory, breakfast and lunch. I can see why it's beloved. I went with the crab cake crepe - and I liked, not loved. The crab cake was subtle and fine, with spinach, avocado, and cheese, but it was missing something. I feel like an egg would have made it all come together? I opted for a side salad in lieu of the breakfast potatoes, and it was a lot of food. I do think if you are a crab fan, you'll enjoy it! My uncle went with the eggs and hash and thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices are high ($20+), but food is quality and servings large. Service was great, although the tables and chairs were a bit shotty and not the most comfortable. Overall, a really solid choice for brunch!

1st time here and it was a good experience wait time was about 15-20 minutes not bad then was seated inside the restaurant. We ordered the huevos ranchers and a classic breakfast . Everything came out fresh and delicious. The coffee was also good and my date enjoyed her cappuccino. The dinning room was full, people waiting and alot of Togo orders seems like a good business creating good food Would return to try something else

Berkeley Hills scrambled side of potatoes, coconut French toast with berries and strawberry marzipan outstanding

I had a Berkeley Hills scramble. Outstanding my wife had. Coconut French toast came with Maron. It was amazing and a side of potatoes seasoned to perfection. I live in San Francisco. I will definitely come back over just to eat here five star

I've always wanted to try the place and the wait always made me choose a different place. Today got there and was seated within 10 minutes! I knew it was going to be a good day. It's a medium sized place. That gives restaurant and not diner. The food came super fast, it was like 10 minutes. I was underwhelmed by my omelette the veggies tasted like they were near bananas in the fridge or something. It was odd. No I didn't say anything to the waitress she already seemed irritated that my friend sent her Irish coffee back. I like how the crab cakes did not taste like frozen patties, they were fresh crab balls. I would definitely try them again. The hostess and the lady who took our drink orders were way more friendly than our actual waitress. But she could have been overwhelmed. This is a place I would go again if in the area but not a place I would make the trip to Berkeley for.

This is a lovely cafe in the quaint 4th Street neighborhood in Berkeley, CA. When visiting the Bay Area, my daughter and I stopped in here for breakfast. The staff was so friendly! It is obviously a local favorite. Bright and sun-filled, the place exudes a simple charm. Espresso coffee drinks are well made. Breakfast dishes are well prepared. A wonderful place to start your day

Supposed to go a week ago, but didn't make it on time. I'm from the valley, so I was so excited my bf took me here again. I came for the potatoes. The employees are always busy, and ready help you out. They are all so kind.

Great brunch spot in Berkeley. We came for a late brunch around 2 pm, which I love! They got us seated right away outside. Our server was very kind and helpful. We ordered an eggs Benedict and a basic breakfast. The eggs Benedict was so good! Delicious. They didn't have hashbrowns, but they had something similar, which is like scalloped potatoes, but in a breakfast form. I really enjoyed them!

Great place to eat breakfast. Ran across this place and I scored. I actually walked in and was greeted and seated immediately. Awesome setting nice atmosphere, busy but peaceful vibe. I ordered quite a bit of food. All was excellent. I will definitely come back and I highly recommend this place if are ever in the area.

The bakery itself seems to mainly be a takeout spot, with minimal indoor seating which felt pretty inconvenient given the limited space for customers, however it did seem to serve more of a purpose as a waiting area anyways. The structure of the bakery leaves a bit to be desired as well, as we found the glass display cases as the only form of menu, so being in the front of the line while still deciding what to order caused some unnecessary anxiety. Regardless of those nitpicks, the baked goods themselves were pretty good! Service was instant, and all of the treats looked delicious--it was hard to choose what we wanted! Our favorites were the Thai Tea and Ube Coconut Mochi Donuts. Both had really strong flavors--the Ube in particular was very clear in comparison to most other Ube desserts in my experience. The textures of the mochi donuts were really well done too, with soft exteriors and chewy, glutinous interiors. The same can be said about the Mochi Muffins, though with crunchier parts around the edges. We found the contrast of textures to actually work really well! However, the flavors of the Muffins were lacking a bit--the Red Velvet didn't stand out much, with the frosting tasting a bit too sweet, and while the Five Spice had a really interesting flavor, it was also a bit too sweet, drowning out the more unique citrusy flavor. Overall, however, all four of the goods we had were enjoyable eats, and would definitely return some time to try out other flavors!

We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

Their menu showed items like waffles and croissant French toast, which sounded really promising. I decided to try the croissant French toast and really wanted to like it. The croissant itself had potential, but the egg mixture was very heavy and lacked some of the warm flavors you typically expect in French toast, like cinnamon or vanilla. Even with the berries and syrup, it still leaned very egg-forward. I also ordered a side of bacon for some extra protein, and that was actually cooked really well. For drinks, I tried the strawberry latte with the vanilla bean soft top. I initially expected more of a coffee-forward drink, but it was much sweeter and reminded me more of an elevated strawberry milk. The space itself is cute and gives more of a social, aesthetic hangout vibe than a traditional brunch spot. Parking can also be a bit tricky. There's free parking in the Trader Joe's garage nearby, but it's unclear whether parking there while dining at the café is allowed. Overall, I liked the concept and atmosphere more than the actual food during this visit.

There was no one waiting behind us, but we were met with an inflexible, robotic "sorry, we're closed." No one was overtly rude, but the interaction felt rigid and mechanical, as if following procedure mattered more than acknowledging the people standing in front of them. The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.
