We came here on a whim while wanting to check it what Berkeley had to offer. It is located in a very touristy strip. The wait was about 20 minutes and we got to sit on the patio. The service was good but the food was average. We tried the Del Mar crepe which was a crepe with crabs cakes and a Hollandaise type sauce. The crepe had more onions than crab and the flavor was missing something. The sauce was not my favorite and I wish I would have tried something else. We also ordered a single pancake. The order comes with 2 but they looked quite large so we asked if we could get one and they let us which was great. That was the best part of the meal. The cinnamon butter was delicious and one pancake is large enough to enjoy without over indulging. Between two of us the crepe and pancake were plenty of food. I would recommend the patio although sometimes the other patrons who are waiting for their table stand rather close to you while you're eating. I would also recommend some of the traditional items such as the pancake but I would pass on the crepe. read more

We immediately snagged one of their mimosa carafes - good choice. The food was just not there. Everyone in our party needed to "alter" their meal in one way or another. My bf - threw in extra cheese, pepper, reached for something with flavor - hot sauce or something. Even the pico de Gallo was missing that cilantro fresh taste. My friend - same thing, kinda tossing between pieces of her egg and the sauces to create a more flavorful bite. My hash was just bland. The meat felt boiled and not really appetizing. I gave up that - went straight for the potatoes and eggs. Even then - it just didn't do it for me. We are highly appreciative that this place exists. - it fits in this environment. My fiancé and I came here looking for a dog friendly brunch place, and they were so accommodating to us! Our waitress was very friendly to us and she brought our dog a complimentary water bowl, which we appreciated a lot. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the way it presented was very unique! Recently came in on a weekday for brunch. It was surprisingly crowded for a Monday at 11am..? Anyway, we got on the waitlist for outside since my friend had her dog, but if we didn't have the dog we could have sat down right away. Once we did sit down our initial service was great, menus came fast, coffee was served expeditiously and then it all seemed to grind to a halt. We waited & waited to get our order taken, then we waited to get noticed to get a box and the check-I ended up going in and asking for a box & the check on my own. Nothing was ever said like "oh I'm sorry, let me get that for you" nope, just a look and a handing over if the requested items.,.. ummm, okay. The food itself was good. I had a scrambled with sausage, spinach and other veggies served on a bed of potatoes. The servings are very generous and they are not afraid to fill up that scramble with sausage and tasty bits! lol. My friend had a chicken burger with fries that she said was delicious, it looked delicious & it too was a big too. Lastly, my daughter had a large Cobb salad and ate most of it. Delicious find! Cafe M kind of hides around the corner from the main strip; therefore, if you do not know about it, you are likely to opt for one of the more visible options on the block. I was looking for a shot of espresso and a cup of latte and determined to avoid the "corporate coffee" options available in the neighborhood. As I was walking around I by accident noticed a sign/banner for Cafe M, so I followed it and walked in for a quick shot of caffeine. The Espresso was delicious and the latte was very good. The place looked very comfortable and inviting so we decided to have a meal there too. We ordered a burger and a Grilled Atlantic Salmon Cobb Salad, both were delicious. The fries were especially good. The hostess was very nice; she got a kick out of us getting coffee to go and then sitting down for the meal. She made sure we got everything we needed. I used to love this spot. It was always the disappointing relative of Doyle Street Cafe, which hasn't missed a beat. But this place was OK, closer than Doyle street, and had the same menu. But they are kind of hit and miss when it comes to their offerings. What I love about Doyle street is that they have Gluten Free pancakes on the regular. But this place used to. But at some point that changed and they decided that they didn't notify me until I sat down and my table mates ordered their food. They used to have the buckwheat pancakes and the blue corn cakes, but no more during the week. I did make up a breakfast of sides and liked the sausage, but the potato home fries weren't so good. I came here for breakfast with a fishing buddy after our charter boat was turned around for rough waters. I am glad we were able to find this place. The waitress was very cheerful and kind despite us being in our fishing clothes. They have a nice selection of breakfast cocktails like Irish coffee, bloody Mary's, pomegranite/orange/ and more mimosas. I was able to get their Irish coffee minus the sugar and whipped cream. It was still quite delicious. As for the food, I ordered the Irish Benedict, which was a poached egg on a English muffin, doused with hollandaise sauce over Corned beef. It came with a side of breakfast potatoes that were awesome! Thinly slices of potatoes, grilled, with a crunchy exterior and moist center. A really elegant hashbrown. My buddy got the breakfast burrito. It must have been good cause he cleaned the whole plate! All in all, food was good, the service was excellent! I am glad my adventures led me to this place. If you do sit outside, be aware that the tables face the parking lot. So you can count on heavy foot traffic, car noise and exhaust. It's still nice to sit outside, it's just busy! Eggs Beni was a better dish) * Benzinger Rose (we brought and it was perfect for our meals) Everything was moving along just grand.. until, the bill. Shayla had already called ahead to ask about the cordage fee - it was $10.00. So when we saw $20.00 on the bill we mentioned it to our server. Instead of correcting the extra fee she proceeded to say "no, There is one button and the cost is $20.00!" Great restaurant! We arrived around 2:30 and got on a waitlist. Around 2:55, I got a text telling me my table was ready but didn't get the notification until later (because I was doing something else and my notifications were off). When I checked my phone, it was already 3:05 and we were worried we weren't going to be seated. Fortunately the hostess allowed us to be seated but asked that we try to order quickly so the kitchen can close afterwards. We ordered the stuffed French toast, and crab cake eggs Benedict. Both meals were very delicious! I wish the French toast could've been less sweet but I'm sure most other people would disagree. However, I still think this place is a bit too pricy and generally unmemorable. I had the Delmar crepe, which did not impress me much. A bit too heavy with the hollandaise sauce, which drowned out the crab cake and potatoes a bit. I thought the pomegranate mimosa was pretty good, but you can't really go wrong with mimosas. I've been a long time customer at Cafe M. However, I will no longer return after being berated over the phone regarding my order. I placed and order online and the allergies section stated the restaurant does not except online substitutions and to call the restaurant. When I called like the option stated, I was told, 1 minute after placing the order, the order was in process and they would not accommodate my food allergies. The receptionist then tried to up-charge to order more food. The customer service here has really gone down hill. read more

This place was always so busy when I used to walk by it on the weekends. And maybe it still is! But on a weekday it wasn't too busy for us to be seated quickly. It's solid standard California diner food. Meaning there's a fair amount of Mexican-ish stuff like breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros. The portions are about as generous as you'd expect for a place like this (so definitely enough that you're not hungry after) and the quality is solid. But I bet the brunch scene is really when this place is at its best. read more

Cafe M always makes me want to get out of my comfort zone and choose things aside from the eggs/bacon combo or omelettes that I normally get everywhere else. Stuffed French toast was perfect, a tad bit smaller than I had anticipated, felt like I stole a good but from my bf's plate. Crab cake appetizer was great, lots of crab vs filler, wish they were a bit bigger. The Irish coffee was balanced. Some places will put in too much whisky and I find it too overwhelming when the drink is hot. This was not the case here. Will be coming back for the foreseeable future. read more

We ordered 2 items: Delmar Crepe (baby spinach, crab cakes, caramelized onions, fontina cheese & red chili avocado creme, hollandaise sauce on top) $15.95 Chicken Pesto Crepe (mushroom, tomato, gruyere cheese, marinated chicken breast, pesto) $13.50 The crab cake crepe was really good and rich in flavor. It might be too heavy for some people but I liked it. The pesto crepe was more subtle; it was good too. Both went well with the thin, crispy breakfast potatoes (I add ketchup + tabasco sauce). I've also had the crab cake benedict and chocolate chip pancakes in the past and they are pretty tasty also. Good service and food. read more
