Great brunch spot in Berkeley! I came here on a Wednesday morning with some friends, and we were seated immediately outside. The service was nice and friendly and very attentive! I really like this restaurant's hollandaise sauce too! I usually don't like Holland's use but I was really impressed by this one and actually ended up scraping my to go container haha. The hollandaise is very lemony and doesn't look like any other hollandaise sauce I've ever seen, but it brightens up the heaviness of the muffin and fried ham. The scalloped potatoes are seasoned well and very tasty. I also tried a bite of my boyfriends crab Benedict and it was pretty fishy tasting. It was real crab though which I appreciate. Nothing special for atmosphere or decor. They don't have a schtick. Still really really good. We sat outside and it was cool and breezy in the late April shade. The hash brown potatoes were amazing, thinly sliced rounds and fried incredibly crispy without being oily. I had an eggs benedict as well. No parsley, no visible spices, and the two yolks were different in doneness, one was fully set and the other very runny. They use a little cayenne or something in the hollandaise. The ham was thick and flavorful with good texture, a ham steak. The food was served hot and promptly. I also had a bright and sweet grapefruit juice mimosa. Review #283 - 2018 My daughter's been on a bacon craze since we returned from our trip to Portland so I decided that I'd bring her here for brunch so she can have her bacon while I enjoyed my crab cakes benedict. We actually had a confusing time trying to find the restaurant since the restaurant is located at the very end of the parking lot which is pretty much on the next street over. We originally tried to find it on the Peet's side of the street, but couldn't find it so we walked back after asking a nice older gentleman where it was. He wasn't sure where it was either. We showed up around 11:45 AM & were seated immediately since there weren't very many customers at the time. The host/waiter brought us our menu while the waitress brought us two glasses of iced water. We placed our order and our food showed up about ten minutes later. When the waitress brought us our food, I was about to ask her to take a picture of us, but she seemed in a hurry and just left. So, I waved down our waiter and he was kind enough to spend a minute to take our picture even though my daughter wasn't cooperating. She doesn't like when strangers take our pictures, unfortunately. My crab cakes benedict was pretty good, but the sauce wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I thought it would have a little bit of a sweet taste to it, but it was more of a salty flavor. The muffins were kind of dry and tough, but still edible. My daughter's four pieces of bacons were actually well cooked and a good size. She really enjoyed them. Service is pretty weird. I came to Cafe M 4 years ago when I was in college and I had the best crab cake benedict EVER here. I came back today to have it again and it is still delicious! It is a bit different though because they've changed their bread and I do think it was better before. Besides that the side of thinly sliced potatoes is delicious! Service wise, it was great. Even though they were packed on a Saturday for brunch, we didn't have to wait very long and the food came out quickly too. Parking wise there is a free parking lot (first 2 hours free) right next to the cafe. I'll be back but next time I'm going to try the French toast, which they make with Hawaiian bread! read more

I've had this restaurant saved under my bookmarks for a while, and finally had a chance to try it out this past weekend! Tip- try to get on the remote waitlist early in the morning on the weekends or make a reservation. My partner and I arrived around 10:30am on a Saturday, and ended up waiting over 30 minutes to be seated. There is plenty of seating both indoor and outdoors. We were seated at a table on the makeshift area in the parking lot. It was cute and bordered with pots of plants and succulents. There was also a lovely man singing Christmas classics on a microphone, but he wasn't an employee of the restaurant - he just happened to be there. We enjoyed the ambiance and the weather was perfect which was a plus. Food-wise, it wasn't anything super amazing. I did order the Basic Breakfast, so maybe it's the meal I chose. My eggs were cooked as I had requested, and the bacon was crispy and well-cooked. I'm mainly giving a 4/5 review because I was obsessed with the potatoes! They were thinly sliced potatoes or maybe mashed that way, and were crispy! I love all things potatoes, but crispy is my favorite. My boyfriend did not want to eat here cause he thought the food is too expensive for what you get. I bought breakfast so no worries for him. I ordered the stuffed French toast and the eggs Benedict and chorizo scrambler. All so very good. Look at the huge platter sizes. Food came out quickly, all the taste and flavor were consistent with what I would expect from these dishes. I LOVE Cafe M. I started coming here my freshman year of college whenever I had people visiting from out of town, and it is definitely a Berkeley staple. I cannot recommend the Berkeley Scrambler enough. The potatoes are crispy and delicious, and the sausage add a great flavor to the eggs. The wait can get pretty long, so I always recommend getting there early on the weekends. The service is great, and the waiters are usually pretty attentive. Coconut French Toast ($13.95): HIGHLY RECOMMEND Hawaiian bread dipped in coconut cream batter, topped with mascarpone-jam blend, shredded coconut & berries. So delicious! The bread was so soft and had the perfect chew to it (not too soggy, not flat or hard). The coconut flavor came through, along with the help of the snowpile of shredded coconut on top! They give you a good amount of berries, too! The mascarpone-jam bland was unique! Never seen anything like it before-I almost thought it was some sort of butter!
