We came in mid-morning on a Sunday and the line was out the door. Despite the wait, the team behind the counter was extremely efficient. There's a huge variety of options in terms of drinks, and prices are fair. We opted for a cappuccino and a chocolate Mexicano. The Mexican chocolate was tremendous- not too sweet, good chocolate flavor, and just a hint of spice. Would definitely come back here when we're in the area again! read more

By far one of my favorite coffee shops in the Pilsen area. For starters, I highly appreciate their reality of the current economy. Prices are extremely affordable for food and drinks. I was so surprised to see that a Lox Bagel was under 10$. The cheapest I've seen in the city so far! The bagel was delicious and the salmon was extremely fresh. There are so many coffees and drinks that I wanted to try, but I opted for the latte with caramel and my friend had the Thai iced coffee. The latte was smooth and delicious but the Thai coffee gave us diabetes. A little less sugar would more than perfect it! The shop is slightly on the smaller side, so you might have a bit of trouble finding a table if it's busy, but the food and drinks more than make up for it. It's gives "art student hangout spot" but in an extremely comforting way (if you know what I mean). The art on the walls are magnificent! I couldn't stop taking pictures. Great ambiance! Highly recommend! read more

This is a cute coffee shop. A little small inside so seating is scarce. Service was okay. My iced caramel latte was delicious and perfect for the warm day. They also have fresh juices! My mom got their carrot juice. We sat on the bench outside which I'm pretty sure is meant for the bus stop? But has the business logo on the wood. So I guess it is theirs. read more

Went in quickly before a concert at Thalia Hall and ordered an Iced Mocha Latte. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and quickly took my order. He had finished making my drink in less than 2 minutes! The coffee itself was on the sweet side but that's a given since it's Mocha. I would probably go back to try just a standard latte if I'm ever in the area again but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come here specifically. Since I wasn't in there very long I can't say much but it's always nice to support local coffee shop businesses. I also really liked the interior because it made the place feel homey. I was a preteen when the Jumping Bean first opened. There were many artists. Now I stay away due to gentrification and arrogance from the owners. I remember when we were some of their first customers, but profit has gone to their heads. I don't blame the employees. They work hard. Luckily, there are other cafes now. We came here for just coffee so it's hard to review on anything else. It's conveniently located on 18th street with plenty of metered street parking. They were busy when we walked in with almost all the tables being full. They had a nice selection of pastries in the front, but we decided just to get some coffee. The entire staff was very friendly and fast workIng. We got our coffee in no time with some thank toys sand big smiles from the staff. I'm not sure if I would actually eat here, but getting some coffee..definitely. I ordered their choco espresso and it tasted phenomenal. Some Mexican chocolate with espresso definitely hit the spot. You get a hint of sweetness with strong flavored espresso. I'll definitely be returning in the very near future. read more

Cuban - the bread was toasted extremely well, but I could hardly taste the other ingredients. If I shaved off maybe a third of the bread, it would've been a great ratio. On top of that, it was very affordable. Golden Bean - tasty, but definitely for people with a sweet tooth. It's like a regular coffee with a crap ton of Torani flavoring. Reminds of coffee with Baileys, except even sweeter. I can see why people like it. The to-go cups are neat, and have mints attached to it. Very pleasant cafe, and I can see myself becoming a regular. read more

I stopped in for lunch and grabbed an iced dirty chai and a veggie focaccia sandwich. It's a small place, and looks like they typically have some counter seating and tables that have been rearranged due to COVID. There wasn't anywhere to eat in as of April 2022. The veggie focaccia was good and the side of pasta that comes with it was just average - noodles with some seasoning. It was a better option than packaged chips though. I will be back! read more

i've come to this coffee shop a handful of times over the past year. i love the interior and vibes inside. the drinks are yummy, especially the matcha. my go to sandwich is the lox bagel. today we ordered the lox bagel on an everything bagel and the turkey sandwich. it took over 20 minutes for our sandwich's. the shop is usually always busy because it's popular so a wait was expected. but i watched multiple orders be made while my bagel was sitting in the warmer. literally other bagels and breads were warmed and fell on top of mine and they were all made while mine sat there. the turkey sandwich was good. the crust of the bread was so toasted it felt like it was going to cut gums. the lox bagel was its usual yummy self. i will definitely return to this shop and hope to never experience such slow service again. read more

I just moved from Chicago to Michigan, and one of the things I miss most is popping over to Pilsen on the regular to stop at Cafe Jumping Bean. Jorge and the rest of the crew are always friendly, and they keep things moving, even when the line stretches out the door (which is common because the place is awesome). They serve possibly the best cold-brewed coffee I've ever had. It's like drinking liquid cacao (and the large size is quite formidable...in a good way). Great way to set the tone for your morning. History

Established in 1994.

Café Jumping Bean, located on the corner of 18th Street and Bishop has served the Pilsen/Little Village community and outlying Chicago neighborhoods since 1994. As Pilsen's first coffeehouse/gallery, it brings together a mix of local residents, workers, students, and the occasional tourists who come to enjoy coffee, good food, conversation and art. Café Jumping Bean's menu features soups, fresh specialty salads, gourmet sandwiches, a variety of pastries and a full-service espresso bar that offers customers both coffee and non-coffee specialties. It prides itself in providing a healthy menu of fresh food and drinks using the highest quality ingredients at affordable prices, while delivering exceptional customer service in a casual atmosphere. The Café also offers catering services throughout the local community. It's growing clientele and services have allowed it to remain a vital anchor to its community and local arts scene.

Meet the Business Owner: Eleazar D.

In 1994, hoping to fill the void for local gathering space in the Pilsen/Little Village neighborhood, Eleazar Delgado opened Café Jumping Bean, Inc. with the simple mission of providing a safe space in the community that offers both cultural arts enrichment, and good, healthy food and drinks. As a lifelong resident of the Pilsen/Little Village community, Eleazar realized his idea of a coffeehouse/gallery was far from typical of new businesses in the area. In fact, no such establishments existed at the time. He recognized however, the need for something different in terms of what neighborhood dining had to offer. And he also saw a potential market in the neighborhood's emerging arts community. Today, a decade later, Café Jumping Bean continues to thrive, serving over 200 customers daily, and bringing together a mix of local residents, workers, students, and the occasional tourists who come to enjoy coffee, good food, conversation and art. Café Jumping Bean has grown alongside Pils

It was nutty, and I could actually taste the espresso without the miso, caramel, or black sesame overpowering it. The flavors worked together really well, and it was delicious. The Basic 9/10 was a pumpkin puree latte with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. The pumpkin and cinnamon flavors were strong, and the espresso was delicious. Definitely my favorite of the two! Honestly, I wish this place were closer to where I live because I could see it becoming my go-to coffee shop. I really loved their espresso flavor. The vibes are chill and casual with a strong '80s aesthetic. It's pretty spacious but gets packed, with couches for lounging and water and Wi-Fi available. The music is upbeat and loud, though, so I'd say it's more of a lounge to hang out with friends than a quiet place to work.

I stopped through late morning on a Saturday and there was no line for ordering That said, as it is located in a relatively compact space, seating was limited. The staff was friendly and once a line started to form, they did a great job of managing it. I opted for a cold brew coffee which was very tasty. My son had their espresso/tonic which was also tasty and refreshing. I did not try any of their food offerings but the items I saw other with looked delicious. Postcard is laptop-free space on Saturdays and Sundays so keep that in mind if you come here wanting to work on the weekend. I will definitely be back to check out more things from their menu.

It has an interesting/funky sort of aesthetic that seems to photograph well. I ordered an apple cider latte, which, in keeping with the theme of the cafe, tasted "interesting." Not bad, but not something I would get again. It came in a to-go cup, even though I noted I was "dining in," so that was disappointing as I wanted a proper mug. While the coffee and vibes were fine, the service was really strange. Instead of having an employee take orders on a continual basis, someone would take an order and then disappear for several minutes before returning to take the next person's order. This carried on and seemed to be simply how they operate. The kicker was 40 minutes in they started playing grating/cacophonous music so loudly I couldn't hear myself think. It seemed like music one would play to get people to leave, but they were still open for another 7 hours so I didn't understand. It was grating and distracting enough that my friend and I had to leave (luckily I had my coffee in a to go cup!). I can see why some people would like it, but this coffee shop is just not for me.

I may be impartial to this place because I've been a patron to this cafe since 2002. I keep going back because of the great service, the good food they serve (super garden salad fan here) is always delicious and they have really amazing coffee. Is it the best? I like to thank so. What to order....? If you're new - Try one of their focaccia sandwiches. As far as coffee - I'm a Cafe Breve fan - I'm there enough they know my order and know how I like it. But a regular cup of coffee is just as fine. Sit, talk, enjoy the energy and the community. One of my favorite places in the city! Is it large... no? Can it get crowed fast... yes! Is this ever a deterrent? Never! I travel all over the city on a daily basis, and always wonder if I have enough time to make it to the Cafe Jumping Bean. It's not your cafe with sofa kind of place but really... Sofas? That's gross! Can you use your laptop? Sure thing! Is there pressure to move - i've spent two hours there eating, talking and working - having short one-on-one meetings here. This place is local but not slow. People in the neighborhood work, they meet, they gather, they drink coffee..... all this happens at the the Jumping Bean. This is a great place to go! Ample street parking is available..... Not sure how many coffee shops in Chicago have designated parking lots so never had a problem with this. Go... enjoy yourself! read more

Stepping into Café Jumping Bean was the perfect way to start the morning. The air was filled with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, mingling with the sweet scent of pastries just out of the oven. The warmth of the café wrapped around me as I walked in, instantly making me feel at home. I started my morning with a cup of Mexican hot chocolate, and from the first sip, I knew I had made the right choice. The velvety smoothness of the chocolate was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, and the subtle warmth of cinnamon added a comforting depth. Every sip felt indulgent, like a warm hug in a cup, making it impossible not to savor. To pair with my drink, I ordered a chocolate croissant, and it was nothing short of delightful. The exterior was golden and flaky, with each bite releasing the perfect crunch before melting into buttery softness. Inside, the rich, slightly gooey chocolate filling was just the right amount, decadent but not overwhelming. The contrast between the crisp layers of pastry and the smooth chocolate was absolute perfection. From the flavors to the atmosphere, everything about this visit was a treat. I will definitely be coming back for more. read more

Talk about a lot of good reviews! There's quite a few coffee shops in this area, but when people positively rant about a certain location, Cmon..I had to at least give it a try. I always get a dirty chai but one stuck out to me, ready?, The Forbidden Latte " scary announcer voice with a slight echo as it goes away" That's how I read it. So I got a milk jug :) just kidding, that would be funny. So the Big Guy size forbidden was pretty pretty good. I finished it before I got to my work. I mean it gave me plenty of energy to go up 3 flights of stairs to my office :) The place was full of peeps enjoying good sized portion meals and drinking, yes, coffee. I would've liked to stay and sip my coffee, who am I kidding, slurp my coffee to the last bit that you can never get because it clings around the ice cubes as it makes fun of you, like, " you know you see me but you can't have me..so buy another one" ( hate that, I think it's a scam and the business is up to something) but seriously I would've loved to stay and people watch but there was no seats available. I want to thank Raquel, Vina, for their reviews. Great first impression on my tongue and eyes! read more

Popped into Café Jumping Bean yesterday morning and it's giving all the Pilsen cozy vibes. I grabbed a cappuccino, the Cuban sandwich, and a bagel. The staff was chill and remembered my face--asked if I wanted almond milk in my latte without me even mentioning it. The walls are covered in local artwork and there was a low‑key playlist playing, which made it feel like a friend's living room. It got a little busy around noon, but I still scored a window‑seat and enjoyed the scene. Only wish the black bean burger was still on deck today, but I'll be back to tackle that next time. read more

Horrible hipster cafe. These douche bags go there for the free wifi and purchase only one cup of coffee. Then when it gets busy the staff says nothing. Guess they don't mind missing a table of people with a $30 check, they would rather let some skinny stinky hipster watch YouTube on his Mac book. Horrible service (weird Hispanic waiter with dreads) Food is terrible (sandwiches are overflowing, one bite and half of the fillings are on the plate). Too bad the staff dont stand up and kick these hipster rats out of the cafe (and Pilsen)! read more
