The interior of this place is so delightful - an old French Island vibe. I came here for brunch on Saturday with a girl friend and loved how the light poured in. I really loved how they accommodated us, seating my friend first as I was running late to our reservation. It's such a pet peeve of mine when restaurants don't seat the party as they trickle in. The food was delicious! I've had the fish tacos once before and ordered the salmon bowl. It was full of flavor and hearty which is what I needed for Saturday afternoon plant-shopping. Drinks were very expensive for quality and size, and our drinks either didn't qualify for happy hour or it wasn't applied. $20 for a 9oz drink is a bit too much. I'm disappointed to have to give Cafe Colette only 3 stars, because I think there is a lot of potential here, but after several unexceptional experiences I am simply left wanting. The atmosphere is nearly perfect -- a low-key French-ish corner cafe with an elegant but unfussy sensibility. The drinks (both the caffeinated and alcoholic offerings) and smaller plates are excellent, so I'd therefore recommend Cafe Colette, mostly, as a place for a solo snack or casual catch up. That said, I have found both lunch and dinner to be underwhelming. The sparse menu contains an unusually high number of misses, many lacking in flavor and salt, and I have yet to try an entree worth ordering twice. It also seems that this place is perpetually understaffed, resulting in spotty service that, during rush hour, can make you feel, uncomfortably, like the server is as disappointed in you for asking for something as you are for having to wait 10 minutes to get their attention. Overall, not a bad choice but really not a must-visit destination in the crowded Williamsburg cafe landscape. read more

Took a friend from out of town here for brunch this morning. It's a cute neighborhood spot with a fairly diverse menu. We ate inside at a two person table in the corner of the restaurant. Not overly noisy but not too quiet where you feel that everyone can overhear your brunch gossip. I'll break down food & service below. Overall 3/5. Food: Tried the slushie coffee but wasn't a fan as it was made with oat milk and I'm a full fat whole milk girlie. The texture was divine though and if i liked oat milk this would be a must have. On a hot muggy day, this would be delish. I got the avo toast with an over medium eggie and my friend got the quiche. She said hers was yum and ate the entire thing. My toast was decent. The bread is THICC and kind of was serving banana bread energy. Like it felt like a slice from a loaf of a cake bread. Not crunchy or toasty at all. But also not bad. I ate it. I felt full.it did some with cilantro on top. I hate cilantro. I picked it off. All was well, but know to ask for it without if you also dislike cilantro. Not my favorite avo toast in Williamsburg but decent. Should be renamed avocado lump bread not toast. I also got an iced coffee with while milk on the side. Coffee was strong and pretty good. Not my fav but truly just preference. They have reg milk so that is cause for celebration. I wish that slushie had reg milk :/ Service: Weird vibes. They took away the Cholula and salt and pepper mid meal, which just felt off. The wait staff weren't the warmest, so coupled with them clearing the condiments as we were eating it just felt like they were trying to get us out quickly. A very cute neighborhood spot! This place is known for brunch but we stopped by for dinner around 6pm instead. It was pretty cold outside so nice to have somewhere to sit that wasn't too trendy and had a simple menu. The ambiance is cozy, neighborhood-y. Would probably get away with sweatpants/workout gear or jeans and sneakers which sometimes we all need a simple place! We ordered two hot toddys which hit the spot (especially with that cold!), the cauliflower and I got the famous burger, my boyfriend the steak. We have been to Colette several times, most of it being during the week early when they open. We went recently on a Saturday and the food was just as delicious with great service. We ate outdoors and enjoyed the nice weather in Williamsburg. The hash and eggs are never a disappointment. We also like the fact that we are able to get the eggs poached and switch out the hash brown patty triangles for the fries. Either one is delicious! The coffee and Irish coffee is amazing as well. Other standouts are the breakfast tacos, burger and French toast. Our server also suggested a slice of chocolate cake with my coffee which was fantastic. Cannot wait to go again! read more

Very cute French café with every type of seating (indoor outdoor & patio). When I arrived the patio wasn't open but I sat outside which was really Nice (pun intended) because you're not in direct sunlight since there is a small veranda overhead. Been coming to his place for at least 12 years, Maybe more actually because my daughter is 14 and I have pics of her around 1years old here. Simply put, they fell off. My wife loves it for some reason so we still go once or twice a year and we get in a fight every time. It was a bit hectic to get sat, as the host seemed to lose our spot on the waiting list, but he was really apologetic about it and the staff in general was really great and friendly! The thing I like most about this space is the vibes. they've got outdoor seating, indoor in their main dining area, and a back area that's great for groups. The menu is pretty traditional. They're known for their brunch and dinner dishes. This spot is good for both groups and dates! I'd recommend making a reservation a head of time as well! P.S. The staff here DGAF. This restaurant survives mostly because people from out of town don't know better. I can't believe covid hasn't killed it. Been here three times, always to meet friends, and it seems that no one who works here wants to. I get it, I'm in the service industry, it sucks. But good management finds people who are competent enough to do the job whether they want to or not. The third (and gosh I hope final) time I was ever asked to go there the restaurant was about half full. The menu was on scan and they brought water when we sat down. We looked at the menu for a min (it's really small) then we were all off our phones and ready. 10 min go by. No one comes. The staff was all huddled around the serving station (presumably talking about how much they hate their job). We made eye contact, nothing, then stopped someone bussing and he said he'd get our server. The table next to us was seated at the same time and we could tell they were also like, where's the server? We waited. And waited. And waited. Along with the next table. Eventually we left. My friend who chose it for his post performance celebration apologized even though it was not his fault. And it put a bit of a damper on the festivities as we scrambled to find new accommodations. If you can manage to get served, the food is good, so okay, one star for Colette's kitchen. read more

But this year I've been twice, sitting inside at the bar and then for a lazy late lunch outside, and I am a new fan. My friend and I had a Friday night reservation, our table was ready when we got there and although the place was full, service was attentive. We started off with the fava bean dip which was absolutely delicious, probably my favorite item. It was creamy, fresh, had a little zing from the radicchio. The sourdough bread it was paired with was downright addictive. I can definitely see myself going back and ordering just this. For my entree i got the grilled octopus, which came with calabrian chili, potato salad, and olives. Just when i thought our appetizer couldnt be topped, i was beyond pleased with my dish. The octopus was fresh and perfectly charred, the calabrian chili added a mild spiciness and the creamy soft potato salad and olives completed the dish beautifully. The only letdown was the chocolate cake we got for dessert, it was dry unfortunately. Other than that, everything else was fabulous and i would most likely return. read more

Love, love, love this place. And not just because we share a name. I've been here for brunch and dinner. The french toast is to die for - it was so fresh and yummy. I would definitely order it again. For dinner I had salad and chicken - it was delicious. I would definitely come back here - I love the ambiance, dress code (all the times I've been there everyone was wearing stripes), the decor, etc. It's such a cute place. My pasta was so small and was supposed to have broccolini -- but was mostly stalks, the pasta was overcooked and soggy. It's unbelievable they actually served it. It looked terrible and tasted bad. They agreed to exchange it for a caesar salad -- it took so long my family was done eating. It's Father Day, we were hoping to have a nice family meal. They took one drink off the check as compensation, but really, if you're not eating with your party, they should take the entree off, or at least give you the option to cancel it. I was really excited by the menu, but everything was just good -- nothing too flavorful or outstanding. GOOD: -- Fried Chicken Salad: the best thing we ordered. It has a creamy dressing and great croutons. The fried chicken itself was a little dry because it comes in little pieces like nuggets. -- The salmon bowl: super basic and good if you like these flavors, but something about the tahini on top was bitter to me? -- The croque madame: they ended up bringing over a sunny side up to put on top, so I'm not positive that's always how it is. It was pretty small. -- Burger: This was interesting -- best part about it was the pickles!
