Delicious Breakfast!! Perfect portion size, bacon cooked to perfection, none of that fatty flabby stuff. Looking forward to trying the lemon poppyseed pancakes. Coffee and espresso is fantastic! read more

Cafe Coda - Music Venues Near Me - Chico, California

The food is good if not great, consistently so. Girlfriend had the Athena : a Mediterranean inspired choice. I had chicken Apple hash. Both came with breakfast potatoes, which may be the best in town. Crispy on all sides, soft in the middle. Not over or under seasoned. The coffees, juices, teas are also decent. The menu has a breakfast beer selection, such as Guinness and espresso. Imbibing will be helpful, as you are going to be bombarded by cliche discussion from the other patrons loudly espousing their views on various social justice issues. Not your head in agreement, or take a free trade tater to the face! Also there's that creepy weird guy pretending to read with a permanent smirk on his face. See how he NEVER turns the page? Why does the wait staff seem so annoyed? Maybe the fact that I'm only here to eat breakfast and not save the world makes me seem dejected. read more

Cafe Coda - the lemon poppyseed pancake was amazing - Music Venues Near Me - Chico, California

Decent experience at Cafe Coda. I do not think that I would return however. Not because the food is bad but mostly because nothing really stood out. Service was ok. Very generic food that could be easily made at home. Eggs Benedict was over a piece of focaccia bread which made the bite dry and not great. Tortilla on the burrito tasted like it was out of a grocery store. They only have potatoes and no hash browns. Again, food wasn't bad but there are a dozen other places in Chico that are better. read more

Excellent food but service is slow. Wait staff walk like the cafe is empty. If you are in a hurry, don't come here.

4 1/2 stars. Only deduction is on ambiance and our service was nothing special. However...that food was phenomenal. Best chilaquiles I've ever had. Hands down. We also ordered the apple Walnut pancakes and those were fantastic. Wait was only 15 min. Best breakfast I've had in a long long time. read more

The food is good. The service isn't. They are SO not into customer service. I reluctantly write bad reviews. I generally give the benefit of the doubt. However this is the 6 time in a row of receiving lack luster service and I'm tired of it. The staff give the feeling that you the customers are simply a pain and not worth the effort. I love the service we get at Nashes, Moms, the Rooster Cafe. Even Dennys acts like they care. The food here is good but the service is lack luster. This place could be awesome if someone in management gave a sh$@t about the customer experience and trained their staff to care. Or at least trained them to fake it. read more

I've only made it here for Breakfasts, and have never been disappointed. I personally love their Breakfast Burrito with it's fresh ingredients, but even the Yogurt is upgraded with the fresh fruit and granola, it's served with! Small and quaint. read more

Super cute, hipster place in Chico. Lots of variety in options as well as price. Might be a bit of a wait on the weekends but totally worth it! Lemon Poppyseed pancakes are to DIE for. read more

Great ambiance, great menu, great service. Just great! Came here randomly on a friday late morning. Walked in to a live jazz band, and some seriously yummy food. Flavors were real and delicious, prices were very reasonable as well. Parking out front can be kinda tricky, but I think they have a lot in the back. Definitely recommended. read more

I'm so happy to find a new place that serves vegan food. We weren't sure if they were open but they are serving on the patio. The weather was a little chilly but it was lovely sitting in the sun. Wait time was only about 30 minutes which is awesome on a Sunday morning for a brunch place. We both had the vegan chilaquiles and they were wonderful. We will be back for sure. read more

The food here is really good. The service is pretty good to. Fast even when busy. Portion size is reasonable even for the price. In my opinion I have not found any other restaurant in Chico that service breakfast like them. I even recommend the coffee. read more

FREEZING! Seriously what is the deal here? I had on warm clothes, a beanie and scarf and still froze! Even my husband who runs hot said his feet felt like rocks. Kick down for a heater if your going to be open early on cold days! Our food was ok-but I couldn't wait to get to the car because I was frozen. read more

Really excellent breakfast spot. The French press coffee is excellent, and the food is also excellent and somewhat unique.

Went here for the first time yesterday and will definitely be back! Service was great, everyone was very friendly & welcoming. My mimosa was perfect, best I've had in a while. And most of all I love the vegan options! Food was cooked perfect and pretty fast service too! We had a great girls brunch! read more

I went there this morning and my boyfriend and I had a really spirited discussion about whether or not it's better than Sin of Cortez. I think they about tied, but right now I'm almost leaning toward Coda. So needless to say they provide a delicious breakfast. Perhaps the most delicious one. I highly recommend The Athens, Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes, and the coffee which arrives to your table in a french press. Classy! Unlike some other breakfast spots in town this one isn't hugely popular yet (like it should be) so even on Saturday mornings you can usually get a table almost immediately. The service is always good and friendly. They also are a great venue for shows and they feature local art on the walls. read more

ok, first of all, i am a vegetarian and i do not like eggs. Eggs gross me out and make me sick, but when i visit chico, i go to cafe coda specifically to eat the florentine benedict. I have traveled around the world and have never had a breakfast as good as cafe coda's. The ambiance, and the variety is enough to make you coming back for more, and craving it when you are far away like me. If you live in Chico, then you absolutely MUST support this amazing local business. Not only are the owners my best friends with a brand new baby!! (he is the CUTEST), but they are also up and coming restauranteurs who have done the grind of waiting tables and slaving over other people's restaurants. Help give this local restaurant the popularity they deserve!!! Cafe coda rocks the house! for music too! oh and BTW, the Harley WASP should stay at home with his folgers crystals. BOOO! read more

food eh. Never can cook my eggs the way I've asked for them. I do not like runny eggs.. Is this hard to cook them, so they aren't runny? It took forever and a day and still my eggs were runny... And the service was awful. S.L.O.W. Funny, it wasn't busy. One other table. Why did it take 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee? And the attitude. I've heard the owner & his (now )wife run down another restaurant as inferior quality. But then, I see them in the establishment they have slammed. Are they trying to learn customer service skills? OR maybe how to correctly cook an egg so it is not runny? This place and the attitude sucks. read more

Coda we researched on yelp and had to give it a try. We were passing through Chico for the first time and decided to come here for a hearty breakfast. Our two meals were the Athens plate with Avo and hot sauce and a Veggie plate with tofu and extra spuds and Avo. Both looked yummy and were great for soaking up any beer from Sierra Nevada the night previous. Perhaps my veggie plate was a little greasy, hopefully they're using quality oils, not GMO canola or soy?? Otherwise what did it for us was their nice tea selection served in those Asian cast iron tea pots, yummy! Play it safe and check out CODA.... Looks like it's a hub for the local music scene too.... read more

Cafe Coda - Music Venues Near Me - Chico, California

Great afternoon brunch! A solid breakfast place is a little hard to come by in Chico and after hearing a lot of praise about Cafe Coda we decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Eggs Blackstone which was a bernaise covered benedict with delicious smoked bacon, my girlfriend ordered the BLTA with a fried egg and a side of Caesar salad. Both were absolutely delicious and well worth the money as we both were only able to finish half of the meal. They are also one of the only places I have ever been that offered french press coffee, and let me say that was an amazingly full cup of coffee. I give this a five stars for food and atmosphere; the live jazz with brunch was a really nice treat and made the afternoon for us, however, I will say our server was fairly unfriendly and wouldn't even say a word to us for the majority of the meal. I understand work is work, but we were very friendly and felt a little let down by her callous attitude. As a lover of food that doesn't detract from my opinion of the restaurant. Solid food, great drinks, fun music. We will be coming back for sure! read more

Wonderful place for breakfast/brunch! The French toast was superb, as were the lemon poppy seed pancakes. The potatoes were delicious as well!! I wish I could cook mine like those. I've already recommended this place to a friend and cannot wait to come back. read more

This used to be my favorite place for breakfast but they got rid of the veggie scramble! I am so disappointed. We are already limited on vegan food in this town let alone vegan breakfast. Man, this is such a major bummer and I'm not the only one that feels this way. So I guess that's it. Too bad. read more

Always a chill place to grab brunch and coffee. I have to brace myself though to be treated like a nuisance when I go in, the service has always been an issue for me. If the service could be as extraordinary as the food this place could be a gem. read more

Best breakfast and french press coffee in town. Love there weekday mimosa happy hour.

Delicious and fresh food, menu was creative but no attempt to change the holy grail of a classic breakfast. Be prepared for longer waits for breakfast. We braved bringing our toddler here for breakfast on a Saturday and I was surprised at how accommodating they were. They were quick with the food and understanding with our requests of extra plates, napkins and spoons as happens with bringing children to restaurants. Very pleasant experience; will be back with toddler in tow! :) read more

This has been my all time favorite breakfast spot. So disappointed today to find they changed the menu! Took away the veggie masterpiece and the oui breakfast, among other items. And then, true to their customer service model, they were fairly unresponsive to our disappointment. I hope enough people mention it that they bring a few things back. read more

My favorite breakfast place. The pricing is awesome with the amount of food you get. Don't pass on their lunch menu. And every Friday and 11:00 AM they have a funny quirky jazz band play. I might actually take off 0.5 stars for the water being gross, the water glasses being too small, and the awkward water-conservation thing (I get it, but I still don't want to ask the waitress/waiter for water every time I need a refill) read more

One of my favorite places to eat breakfast at. I have tried the fat boy and the chilaquiles and both plates are delicious. The servings are huge so be ready to eat. The food tastes freshly made compared to a lot of other breakfast places and the flavors are amazing. The orange juice is also super good. The times I've been here there was barely any wait, but the food is super worth waiting for. read more

I'm done with Cafe Coda. Nice quiet place to have champagne brunch at, their cups are generous and the food is quality. However, the service kind of ruins it for me. I work right next door and get lunch there probably about once a week. Every time I wait an extra ten minutes to go pick up my lunch and I still end up waiting ten minutes while I'm there. I've also ordered my eggs a certain way, only to receive my to-go box and be told "sorry, he was too busy this morning to make it like you wanted". Ummm... last time I checked, I was a paying customer and a regular here. That's it, I'm not going back. read more

This place screams hipster to me. However, I still love it -- even with the ridiculously long wait times on weekend mornings. The Coda Benedict is my go-to order, though their Pesto egg dish is also delicious! read more

I liked coda the first few times I went there. Then I got sour hollandaise sauce. Ew! Then the next time I tried it I got a cold club sandwich that took 35 minutes to prepare. The waiter was rude and said they were really busy. I was the last person in there for lunch and I was only the third table........not busy, and a club sandwich doesn't take 35 minutes. I would only recommend coming here to listen to Bogg play live jazz and have a drink, no food. They have a liquor license and espresso machine. read more

I regret having to give Cafe Coda 1 star especially when I had such high hopes, but the terrible service overshadows anything else. We came in for brunch on a Sunday. There were just a few occupied tables and no wait. We were seated immediately then waited 15 mins before anyone asked if we wanted something to drink. After ordering our meals we then waited 40 mins to be served. The person who appeared to be the manager went to a couple of tables, (we weren't one of them), to state that they weren't breaking any land speed records that day. When we got our orders I stated that I needed some butter and my husband said he was missing his fruit plate. Our server disappeared then returned to the bar area and started to count her money, no butter, no fruit plate. We flagged down a busser to get what we were waiting for. I was really hoping that the food was worth the bad service, but alas, it wasn't. I had the granola strawberry pancakes which were good and the rest of my family had the eggs benedict which was mediocre. I will continue to go to Sin of Cortez where the food and service are excellent even when they're slammed. read more

Please.... You could make so much more money with repeat customers if your service wasn't so slow! Food is good but not worth the wait! Please, please step it up a notch! read more

Food was decent but service was awful. A male server greeted us and sat us and then never came back after dropping off food. He walked right past us without even checking on us and we really wanted water. So I got up and asked a girl with dark hair that was counting cash nicely if we could have water. She was clearly upset that I was asking her and not our "server" who seemed more interested in busing all of the tables. So she said she'd have our server bring us water but she ended up bringing it and forcefully placed it down, don't know if she was mad at us or the server for not doing it but it was definitely unpleasant. Then a different server brought us our check. Food was not good enough to make up for the awful service. read more

I wasn't sure about writing a review for this place, but hey maybe they read them. Coffee! I don't care how great the food is when you start with a bad, really bad cup of coffee it is never going to be a great experience. So on the off chance that the owners or managers read this, when you serve coffee over and over in the same mug without proper cleaning the mug develops a film that ruins the taste of any future coffee. Further more I love the coffee from a press, but don't own one fro the same reason they require significant effort to clean properly. Since I would rather had coffee from a week old thermos, I have to assume that the little press was also covered with that same film. As other have said the service was...well different. I sat an their bar and it took for ever to get a menu that was wet? Why was it wet? Then the little press-pot for coffee was a bit slow only to wait 4-5 mins more for my coffee? I waited forever for my order to be taken, then it was like I had a neon sign on my forehead, because suddenly I was asked REPEATEDLY by every server if I had been helped. The food was OK? I enjoyed the flat bread with my scramble.....Nice menu choices to try if I planned on going back. So anyway I think it you are a regular there things may be better for you, seems like a very "local place". read more

This place blows, the food sucks, the coffee is cold and it's hype is all a fad. The hipsters that frequent this "cafe" must like shitty food and service. Plus it's wayyyyy overpriced for the meager service and product you get. I can get a better and cheaper cup of coffee at McDonald's and probably a better breakfast sandwich and pancakes while I'm at it. read more
