Five stars bc amazing food + amazing service. We came Friday night @ 830pm and were immediately sat and immediately served. First off the food was unexpectedly amazing. I'm always apprehensive to try seafood restaurants outside of the normal downtown scene, but this food was amazing. I got the potato crusted Alaskan halibut (pictured) below and it came with a perfect sized serving of fish plated upon pickled beets and cooked spinach. I'm not sure what the glaze sauce is but it was a perfect match for both the vegetables, and the fish. My friend nervously ordered the chicken pasta (nervous bc it's a seafood restaurant) and was over the moon with the cooking of both the veggies and chicken. His serving size could easily feed two. And lastly, we ended our meal with coffee and the molten chocolate cake that our waitress recommended. HOLY MOLY CALLING ALL CHOCOLATE LOVERS YOU HAVE TO ORDER THE CAKE. Second was our absolutely amazing server, Kira. They were quick to introduce us to the restaurant and give us the run down of what to order and what wine we HAD to try. We never had to look around for our server. Our drinks were always filled, and our questions were knowledgeably answered. Extremely disappointed in the portions served to me and two others last night. We all ordered Mahi Mahi (not a cheap dinner) and received the smallest portion of fish I've ever seen on a dinner plate. The rice pilaf was too salty. Two of us substituted the vegetable for asparagus and both were given 3 spears. Seems very skimpy to me. I have eaten at Cafe Blue many times with my family and I am now hesitant to go back. I realize food and labor prices are up but they would be better off raising prices so we can receive a real meal. At least we weren't chraged for the extra bread or we would have left hungry. read more

My family of 5 went to Cafe Blue on Saturday Nov. 27th. When we first arrived we were greeted by a very angry hostess. She seemed to be very disappointed that we were there. She had to move two tables together for our party and was not happy about it or she was angry about something else-- we weren't sure what was going on. It took her forever to get us seated in an almost empty restaurant. We were served by a pleasant waitress after a wait. We ordered a dozen oysters and several bloody mary's. The condiments on the top of the bloody mary were in the drink -- you had to dig the shrimp, and olives off the bottom of the glass. When we asked the waitress where the condiments were-- she laughed and said they fell in because they were heavy! The ice was entirely melted (we asked for more ice) and the drinks tasted terrible. When our food came it was just terrible. We had the Crab Cake - Avocado BLT, two halfie's, and one Benedict Arnold. The Crab Cake BLT was soggy and tasteless, the halfies had pop corn shrimp in them rather than the regular shrimp (as described on the menu) and oyster's as described, and oh-- the benedict arnold was supposed to have two poached eggs on the top and it had two hard boiled eggs on the top of the tasteless crab cake. (see photo) We pointed this out to the waitress and she laughed and said-- yep -- those eggs could be used a weapons! She never bothered to show the manager what type of food and drinks were coming out of the kitchen. Also, we did not get the fruit or the beignets at the beginning of our meal. At the end of the meal we asked the waitress what happened to the beignets and fruit-- she said she forgot and that she would bring them to us. We did get them at the end of the meal. The whole experience was total chaos! I have been to cafe blue several times in this location and thought it was just Ok and had noticed the last several times that the service and food was really falling apart. This was the absolute confirmation of this and I will not be back nor will anyone that was in my party! read more

Cafe Blue has come a long way with their flavors. Returning after years of living in the hill country. We ordered the redfish Cajun style, and the clam chowder. Y'all, this is some of the finest clam chowder I have had in a loooooong time. The redfish was fresh, Cajun seasoning was adequate. Wish they added one more asparagus. My first experience was this past Friday. We had oysters Rockefeller, the mussels in curry sauce and the flounder. Everything was superb. 5 stars! So much that I called my in-laws and insisted on taking them out this Monday. Fast forward to Monday... oysters were still great! But everything else was average to below average. So frustrating! Been meeting several friends/couples at the Bee Caves Cafe Blue location every month or two after playing golf at Falconhead. Tonight was perhaps the worst service and poorest quality food any of the 3 couples have had anywhere in a long time. To begin with one couple sat at the bar for 30 mins prior to the rest of the party arriving without every being offered a drink. Once seated we placed orders for wedge salads prior to the entree's, and waters. Neither the salads or waters were ever delivered and our entree's showed up with never a mention of the total missing salads or waters. The Redfish was so overcooked it was literally hard as a rock and as tough as leather, and hardly inedible. Really disappointed with the service and food quality, $350 for food and wine that frankly was not worth $35. read more

I seldom give three stars but Cafe Blue is no four, and not quite a two so here we are. The ambiance is nice - modern clean lines and unobtrusive decor. Parking is pot luck - it's the Galleria. Staff is adequate although for some reason the hostess couldn't say hello or anything for that matter - just waved us in. We found two seats at the bar and the place was very full. Maybe the holiday spirit (no pun intended)? Later we found out it was half-price Monday (all-day) hence the crowds. We found it hard to talk with noise echoing off the hard surfaces. Draft beer selection is moderate but interesting and the wine and cocktails well-curated. Appetizers were not quite as interesting although we did try the coconut shrimp: five small shrimp not very tasty frankly although the glaze was very good. More like a pre-appetizer than an appetizer. Service okay not great - for some reason the bartender waited on several others before us even though they sat after? Just strange. Long time to get a second round as well although he was nice enough to give my date some samples before she chose what to drink. Total cost with the appetizer and two drinks apiece was $40 at half-off pricing. Folks, that is really expensive - you can buy a very nice bottle of wine and a pound of shrimp for less than that. And that was happy hour pricing... Geez. Once again like many other Austin establishments it just took too long to get the check. Not sure why you would want to make people wait before you pay but we've seen this all over town. Overall not a 2 but def not a 4: had we paid full-price I would have leaned to 2 stars just because of the value received for the money. read more

I've been a long time fan of this restaurant since it was established at the Galleria. My family and I are practically regulars at Cafe Blue because it is always a solid choice to fall back on when we can't decide where to go. Their food has always been consistently good, and they have a great variety of options to choose from on the menu. We've had great waiters who always recognize us, and never once have left dissatisfied with our food or experience. A perfect spot for lunch, brunch, and dinner, as well as great for birthdays and larger groups. I love Cafe Blue, and it's genuinely one of my favorite restaurants in all of Austin! Had a few drinks in the bar : the wife did not like the Oyster Shooter....it was like watered down bloody mary with an oyster on the side. LOLF picked this spot for her 75th birthday dinner. It was a great choice She is on a very limited diet due to illness right now and can only eat "meat and potatos". Well, she got her meat on last nite! The interior of the this place is my deco dream. All cool blues and murals of whales, dolphin sculptures, and sword fishes (ok I wouldn't actually put a giant stuffed swordfish in my house). Even the silverware was fishy. I wanted. We were informed upon arrival that it's happy hour all day on Mondays, which was half off wine and oysters and shrimps. Unfortunately none of those are on her diet so we had to reluctantly pass but it was good info. She ordered the beef tenderloin with (giant) onion rings and creamed spinach and I ordered the brown sugar ancho-rubbed salmon (I said BROWN SUGAR ANCHO RUBBED SALMON!) with lump crab meat, rice pilaf and "cucumber mint coleslaw". I put that last in quotes because I couldn't taste either cucumber or mint but only spice, more like jalapeno slaw? Very tasty but super spicy. Anyway, LOLF LOVED her meat and nibbled a little on the very tasty spinach and the light almost tempura fried onion rings. My salmon was amazing. A little spicy with that sweet crust from the sugar, off set by the almost tangy bearnaise sauce. Seriously, the moans coming from our table coulda been used as a porn soundtrack (until you realize they came from a lil ole lady.....). As an added bonus, they comped her a desert for her birthday and she chose the key lime pie. She had me cracking up with the sourpuss face with every bite. She kept saying "This is just so beautiful." as she would wrinkle her brow and screw up her mouth. Truly an oxyMORON. But, yes, the pie was fantastic and came with a sweet whipped cream to reduce the tartness and covered in fresh berries that I gladly threw myself in front of for her and her crazy gut. I was really pleasantly surprised by our meals here. I guess I had eaten at the lake location years ago and don't remember it being this good. But I will definitely return. There were about 6 other dishes on the menu that I sadly rejected for the salmon. I can't wait to try those! ***just a little side note of gratitude: not only was our waiter super sweet to LOLF and laughed at her usual antics, but this restaurant also donates meals to shut ins and the elderly, of which LOLF is on that list and gets them delivered to her house through the rotary club. Decided to drop in this place at the Hill country Galleria to do a review. First impressions is that this place had no soul, no vibe, and no character. What am I supposed to do with a seafood place stuck in the middle of an outdoor mall? How do I compare food quality, service, price, atmosphere, and cleanliness? So, this review is temporary as my summary is based upon minimum experience. The Sesame Ahi Crusted Tuna with Mango salad was a small tray of previously frozen Ahi tuna, barely thawed in time to serve. The way to sear and serve tuna is fundamentally easy. First, this assumes Cafe Blue or it's supplier followed the FDA's process to de-parasitic the tuna. Then, sear it in very hot oil (I use sesame) a crust of peppercorns and sesame seeds. Looks like it was previously seared the day before and was ice cold and lifeless and included 5 slivers of Ahi for $16. As for the mango salad, a tiny portion which resembled garnish more so than an advertised entree. The service was ice cold like the fish and the bar tenders just standing around preferring to clean glasses than pay any attention to patrons. i can't say for sure that this place will be in business for more than the end of the year. Today I ordered lunch with delivery by Grubhub. The delivery was outstanding on its own (driver spent 25 minutes total picking up from two other restaurants after picking mine up from Cafe Blue. Long story, but I had to leave my house to make sure she didn't drive by without delivering...) I had asked for a well-done burger, and received a burnt shell with pink, shiny, mostly cold interior instead. For the raw-food averse, this is a non-runner. Onion rings atop this were cut so thinly that the rings were mostly batter, Fries were passable but soggy due to the 50 minutes they were held while Kathy the driver visited multiple other restaurants and got lost in a small compound with unit numbers everywhere... Overall, I haven't set foot inside Cafe Blurgh, and neither will I. read more

I have a few random and strange things to say about this place. It's a good place, don't get me wrong, but there are just some... weird and strange things to say about it. We'll just do a lovely list because I can't organize my thoughts. FOOD: Cajun Seafood Fondue- It's got a lot of crunchy bread crumbs, and quite a lot of meat. I really liked the dish. It was light with not much cheese. I wouldn't call it a fondue. Blue Wedge Salad and Lake Travis Summer Salad- both are unique and really tasty. The presentation is nice. The Blue Wedge is savory, and the Summer Salad is sweet. Crab Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp- I was kinda disappointed with this dish. I guess I was expecting it to be fresher? It wasn't super warm and the crab stuffing just seemed meh, it kinda hid the shrimp. Mahi Mahi "Oscar Style"- The fish was fine, but the "Oscar Style" was sad. It's made up of huge chunks of crab meat (really tasty!) but the sauce that covers it is really lacking. Red Fish Louisiane- The best entree, I think. The fish was really yummy with a nice smokey and spicy flavor, and it was generously covered with their crawfish sauce. The sauce was thick, hearty and spicy, and it had a TON of crawfish in it. It was fantastic. Chocolate Flan Cake- It's a little deceiving, because there's not much chocolate. It's like a really rich vanilla pudding with an oreo base layer. I liked it a lot but it definitely didn't satisfy my boyfriend's chocolate craving. Creme Brule- it's creme brule! Bread Pudding- It was alright, I really liked the ice cream with raisins on the side! Key Lime Pie- Really yummy and rich. RANDOM THINGS: Our waiter the second time didn't really have any idea what he was talking about, but he was nice at least. The second time we came they didn't have anything chocolate for dessert... I thought that was just kinda random. The seating is strange. You can either sit at a table, or a booth that's not really a booth, it's a half circle... which I find odd. The second time we came the Fondue was totally different, it didn't have much cheese at all. The ambiance is a little lacking, and I'm not sure what it is. It may be that there aren't a lot of people... I'm not sure. I wouldn't come here without a coupon. It's a WONDERFUL deal, what we got, but there's something kinda different about it. Good? Bad? I have been a fan of Cafe Blue every since their lake location was spelled Cafe "Bleu" and have been anticipating their opening in the Hill Country Galleria. They have been open for about a week now in the old Wyland's location (near Dillards) with the same "blue" theme with huge whale murals and aquariums - definitely an upgrade in decor to price ratio from their lake location! Happy Hour is 3-7PM with 1/2 off raw oysters and peel and eat shrimp and wine, beer and pitchers of cocktails! For a little over $30 before tip at HH we had 2 glasses of wine, oysters and shrimp and an amazing (5 star) rare seared Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna on a bed of mixed greens, cucumber slices and wasabi peas and seeds with a spicy ginger vinaigrette. The rest of the menu seems the same as the other location (salads, burgers, chicken, steaks and fish) except the new "5 Star" Seared Ahi Tuna is a welcome change (at the lake location it was served with a mustard sauce and not nearly as good). The food here is always good, be prepared to pay for the good quality. This a high end restaurant with prices to match. They have many great seafood options with a fresh raw bar but I prefer meat so I usually order one of their tasty steaks, my fave is the rib eye.
