The waiter was fun witty and most of all got our order , perfect~~ first I ordered the shrimp platter with mashed potatoes and sauted spinach, so delicious!! Low salt and made my day. The birthday boy ordered prime rib with salad with potatoes. Then ordered mimosas and rice with grilled Mahi-Mahi. Amazing dishes, so pleased with service ambiance and attentive waiter.All dishes were Epic tasting. Glad we stopped in. Plenty of parking. No problem there. Oops, they did it again... I have been in a love/ "kind of like" relationship with this establishment for over 13 years. The inconsistency of food quality, portions, and pricing is just nuts. My previous 5 star review was based a lot on their rocking updated happy hour specials. Off the chart's amazing prices, and the food was nom nom nom. Well...I guess they recently went back to their old happy hour menu where there are only a couple of discounted items and shocking...the same dishes diminished in portion size. No no. At first I thought, maybe it was just me, but I went back and looked at my old photos. So raise your prices and make the servings smaller. I find that a tad offensive as a customer. Albeit I can understand how there other offerings were almost too good of a deal and maybe they were losing a lot of money. ? They made some beautiful updates to the patio seating, included neat led lamps for ambience. The service is still stellar. The food is still good, but I personally don't think it's worth the price compared to similar styled restaurants in the area. We decided to give Cafe Blue another try after not eating there for a long time, and unfortunately it will be a very long time before we ever come back. My wife's beef tips came out burnt, and my stuffed shrimp were overcooked and burnt on top as well. The biggest issue, however, was with my daughter's popcorn shrimp. You expect popcorn shrimp to be free of shells, especially for a child, but there were multiple pieces of shell mixed in. One shell actually became lodged in the roof of her mouth, which was completely unacceptable. We asked to speak with a manager, and when he came to the table, he couldn't have seemed less concerned. We showed him the shell that came from the shrimp and explained what had happened to our daughter, along with the other issues with our meals. While he did remove her meal from the bill, there was no genuine concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. Overall, the food was overcooked, poorly prepared, and the customer service was just as disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Cafe Blue and we will not be returning. read more

Its been a long while since I've been here. My dish was not good at all, the fish they used was catfish and it didn't taste good and the was hard. The texture of the bread part was mushy. My partner had the fried shrimp and he loved it. The server we had her name is Jaz. She was amazing and very attentive. She was super sweet asking me she would have changed out my meal to something else. Most server wouldn't ask that. I would go back again to try something else. Food was absolutely amazing! Mahi Mahi fish tacos with the mango/pineapple salsa atop a small house vinaigrette salad was phenomenal! Crab cakes were amazing...majority crab meat and not filler...I recommend the Dijon mustard sauce on side, as would be overpowering and take away from amazing crabcake flavor. Waiter was very courteous and attentive and the atmosphere was very clean and pleasant. I will say it was a tad loud, and difficult to carry on a conversation with someone who does not hear well. VERY busy today and only seating option were tables in main dining (I try to get booths as they are a little more secluded and quieter). The chef is amazing and the food was delicious. The best service from a staff I've seen and the overall ambiance was like none other.

This used to be one of my wife's favorite restaurants dude to the brown sugar salmon salad... But we're not going back any longer because the quality and consistency are just not there. The salmon this time was ordered medium and it came out perfect on the edges but the inside was stringy and raw. I'm not talking pink, but the red, gooey, translucent flesh color. Waitress said "next time we'll order it well done." She was trying to be funny but it came off as a little dismissive as she didn't look at the fish. The chicken strawberry salad was very good except for the chicken. I thought a restaurant like this would know that a salad with bright acids shouldn't be mixed with fatty, lumpy chunks of dark meat. Apparently they use a rotisserie chicken that's stripped by a machine - then they just grab a handful of whatever comes out and throw it on the salad. For the cooks it's easy to remember - if it's slathered in sauce use dark meat, otherwise use breast meat. Service was attentive and the outside patio was nice. read more

Service was ok, but server pouring our wine to 4 glasses dripped several drops on the table and did not have a cloth to wipe them up. 3of the 4 dishes were well prepared. However the Seafood Pasta Fra Diablo did not have any gulf shrimp. I chose to not make an issue of it. Also, the server delivering the pasta dish was asked for grated Parmesan cheese and another server had to be asked again for it. I love visiting the Galleria but sadly cannot say the same about Cafe Blue! It's always been an average yet pricey place to me, and a recent visit reaffirmed my lukewarm impression. The protein was cooked fine across all five entrees but the sides were crazy salty. Not sure anything is worth reordering except maybe the Redfish Louisiane for the creamy sauce, especially at ~$30-40 per plate. Oysters on the shell were sad and small, maybe a seasonal issue? We enjoyed the complimentary focaccia bread, even though it was a tad undercooked. Again, great location! However, the inside is super dated and the acoustics are terrible. Be prepared for lip reading and/or shouting across the table to hear each other. Staff were nice but service was painfully slow despite the restaurant being pretty empty at the time. read more

I don't really like leaving negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough to warrant one. I visited with family and friends, and it was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. The server was rude, dismissive, and inattentive, and what was even more disappointing was the manager's response. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, he was unhelpful and seemed completely uninterested in resolving the situation. With so many better options available, there's absolutely no reason to waste your time or money here. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Really good place for a date-nite. A bit noisy for a "romantic" date, but still a good place to dine for two. Took my wife here and really enjoyed our visit. The place is very nicely decorated and lit. They have large glass doors that slide open for fresh air to breeze through the entire dining area. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Our waitress took good care of us throughout the night. My wife had the Rosemary Pasta w/ Shrimp dish and some Clam Chowder - which she loved. I had the Jerk Chicken Quesadilla for an appetizer, a house salad, and the Blackened Mahi-Mahi Tacos - all of which were plentiful and delicious! While we didn't have any "adult" beverages, the bill came out to about $50/person, but this place is worth it. Revisited Cafe Blue a few times in 2023; decided a follow up was warranted. A nice brunch with friends awhile back and the day before Thanksgiving GF and I ventured in for a late lunch. Still one of my fave appetizers in Austin is the Thai Style Mussels with Red Curry Broth. Armed with a $150 gift card (thanks mom!) we stared with Oysters on the Half Shell, Oysters Rockefeller, and Calamari. Raw were delicious paired with CB's play on traditional minionette. Tangy flavors of green apple and jalapeno vinegar; cocktail sauce was good too. Rockefeller dish was also on point. GF doesn't like raw enjoyed the flavors of this cooked dish. Calamari was above average; perhaps the largest rings I've seen in a good while. Asian style dipping sauce was appreciated but if you're used to marinara it was there too. Yes, we ordered more food if you can believe it. Gotta blow out that gift card! My Mahi dish was prepared "Oscar Style" at my request. That's Bearnaise and Lump Crab Meat if you're in the know. Solid dish paired with requested Mashed Potatoes and Spinach. Service was attentive but there were minor issues. A table arrived after we sat down and got bread immediately; we had to ask for it. Table could have been pre bussed a bit quicker. We stared at empty appetizer plates for a good while. Prices aren't too inflated for what you get; four stars. read more

I wish I had read the recent reviews before choosing Cafe Blue for our anniversary lunch. We have been dining there for more than ten years, and it has always been one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, today's experience was very disappointing. The tuna was cooked almost well done instead of being seared and rare as it has always been in the past. Our server agreed that it was overcooked and took it back to the kitchen. When the dish returned, I am fairly certain it had simply been rearranged to highlight the pinker pieces rather than remade. I hope Cafe Blue can return to the quality that made us loyal customers for so long. read more

Adding Thai peppers would really make this dish pop. The menu description says sweet and spicy with curry flavors, but none of that came through. I ate the whole dish, but I wouldn't order it again. Peel-and-Eat Shrimp: Happy hour price was $10 for a good amount of shrimp, medium-sized, but you have to clean them yourself. The seasoning makes this very messy. This dish could use an upgrade: easier-to-peel shrimp, cleaned a bit more, and slightly larger in size. At $20, I wouldn't order it again--and probably not even during happy hour. I'd also love to see some of the happy hour specials from the past make a return. Service: The bartender was busy but efficient. My wife and I ate there last night...it was our 51st wedding anniversary. We had the oysters, tuna salad, clam chowder and Crab-stuffed flounder. The salad and soup were exquisite; but the flounder was the worst piece of fish I have ever had in my life. It was so dry the texture can only be described as fibrous. When tried to cut it, it was like cutting leather being pushed around the plate. The crab stuffing was mostly breading, with the texture of wet oatmeal. Great location, beautiful surroundings, and problematic food. Was in recently with children, who had full-size chicken quesadilla and cheeseburger meals. I had gotten the kids' menu to keep portions smaller, but our waiter had other plans. He quietly asked each child if they'd like the 'normal' size without any reference to me. Not a fan, as a sizable part of their food was left uneaten, and I had to eat the associated bill. As for the food: the quesadilla had good flaky surrounds, tasteless chicken, and either no vegetables or no flavor of vegetables. My half-chicken was beautifully presented, but the meat was tasteless and almost rubbery; to boot, the lemon sauce had the barest of flavors. Together, the combination was not appealing. The only winner at the table was the cheeseburger and fries combination. Overall, the bill was commensurate with the 1st-semester Cordon Bleu cooking style. Maybe a trained chef could help matters? We used to come here for nearly 7 years but in the last 2 years this place has really degraded. After eating brunch today, all 5 members of our party (who all ate different things) had extreme stomach upset (extreme). This included our twin toddlers who are 22 months old. The waitress was extremely rude, only took our orders and we never saw her again. We needed to place an additional order for our kids who rejected the oily (tasted like oil reused fry oil and was disgusting) brown omelette... and our waters / drinks ran dry, and the food was terrible. Don't order off the brunch menu. Stick to seafood Benedict's or just don't come at all. It took so long to order and receive the supplemental food for our kids, we asked for it to go and just fed them fruit and beignets to fill their bellies. Mind you we never complained, our kids were well behaved, everyone was calm and just ready to leave. This young lady scoffed, rolled her eyes and asked 3x if we could just eat it there instead of taking to go. We finally told her we were half an hour into the kids nap time and desperately needed to leave. She flung (literally flung) the check at us. The restaurant was barely occupied and she was training other new servers. I hope they don't adopt her behavior as acceptable in any service industry. After 6 years of frequenting Cafe Blue we have decided to never, ever return. Try Shore, League, Other places that won't give you and your family major GI issues and far better service. read more

The food was good. It was quite a drive to get there but we had plans in the area so we met there for brunch. There were four of us and we all got a different Benedict's. It was decorated in a sea theme. The dolphin faucets in the bathroom were an odd choice. Definitely made an impression on me. Our waitress was in training and tried hard. We have eaten at Cafe Blue several times; however, today' s service was terrible! We had to request a menu in order to order our meal. None was offered when we were seated. Since no complimentary bread was offered, we had to ask our server for it. Next my wife had to waive down our server to get coffee refills. At least she finally got some refills - better than my never being offered a refill for my soda! At least the food was good. All in all our experience was frustrating. read more

After I just bragged about Cafe Blue, we went there as I said we would in my last posting...for our anniversary dinner. Got there early for a Happy hour drink. They were good! The waiter "never" mentioned Happy Hour or we would've gotten an appetizer! We did however get our Happy hour discount after I mentioned it. Came back to the table at 6 so it was over. (Just the principle of it. (They have untrained wait staff I guess). A runner brought out bread didn't say a word. Weird.... Back to the food. Ordered the Sea Bass. Was ok, not great. It came with rice-a-roni over seasoned with garlic powder, little onion rings all over it and Asparagus. Disappointing since I cook better than that. read more
