The first thing that my friend and I noticed walking through the front door was a strong scent of sewage stemming from somewhere. Then, there was the individual who seated us that couldn't have been any less friendly than she already was. Next was the food which was suppose to be the main attraction...and, it was just okay. The atmosphere was loud primarily due to the older lady whom I presume was the owner who was seated nearby talking to a couple...she was so loud that it was challenging to hear my dinner guest sitting immediately adjacent to me. Then, the same individual who initially seated us then proceeded to mess up our credit cart payment - ie first overcharging and then required to provide a refund - but, this time she was a bit more friendly ; ) Ugh! ...Never again... I am done with this place~ Too many other great Italian food restaurants in the neighborhood in which one does not need to by-pass the sewer smell to be seated, encounter unpleasant service, and dine on just mediocre food at best. read more

But don't let yourself be mistaken by the size of this great restaurant!!! The bread is amazing, savory soft, moist and delicate, served with a pairing of olive oil with red wine vinegar and spices; OMG it is hard to stop eating it... First we had the crab stuffed mushrooms, and it was delicious, it had a sauce on top that was amazing (and went great with the bread). Second we ordered the salmon special; it was worth every penny. Went for dinner last night with my family and have been coming here for as long as i can remember for special life events, but last nights food has to be the worst experience ever. The server was very rude, felt almost like he was back talking us. We asked for a lemon with our calamari when it was delivered and never brought to us even when we reminded him 5 min later. Chicken parm was soggy and completely inedible. The lasagnas meat tasted like wet dog food and would have rather eaten a can of chef boyardee. The whole dining, atmosphere, and friendly/family experience is without a doubt is fantastic. Great service, and quick to come out with your order. We shared an antipasto salad to start, and the dressing was fresh and flavorful, and it was more than enough for 2 people. For entrees, I ordered the Linguine a la Carbonara, and my boyfriend ordered the Farfalle Dish. Both of the dishes are served with a cream based sauce (one a sherry cream, and the other a white wine sauce w/ marinara). Unfortunately, we just didn't see a large difference in flavor between the two sauces. I think if there had been more depth in the flavors of our sauces, this would've gotten 5 stars and more frequent returns. I would definitely be back to try something else on the menu. read more

Wow. Best veal piccata in Dallas, and maybe the best I've had anywhere, anytime, and I've had some great ones. My wife had the Low-fat Spaghetti, and I had the aforementioned Veal Piccata. She liked hers and I LOVED mine. Also the garlic bread is smear-on-your-body great and the restaurant is BYOB, so those of you who are budget conscious will love it. And speaking of price, all of the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food we were served. Vangie is so warm, and cooks the food you eat. So... she cooks with love, and checks on EVERYONE that comes in. Not just the VIPS. Carla was what drew us in. She was so sweet And got us in ASAP. The service was not so great (waitress started watching TV and forgot to pick up our check, table only half bussed), but the food was pretty good. The salad had lots of cheese and actual green pieces of lettuce, not just crunchy end pieces from a bag and I liked the tomatoey vinegar house dressing. My mom and I shared the chicken sinatra which was a chicken breast wapped in proscuitto, breaded eggplant and mozzerella, it had spaghetti on the side. Cafe Amore is right up there with great Italian restaurants in both cities and even better is their price and BYOB policy. Everyone in our party ordered the Veal Sinatra and it was exceptional. For appetizers we had delicious Calamari and fantastic Garlic bread. You can order a small or regular salad and the small Caesar was delicious. I've driven by Cafe Amore coming up Coit so many times on my way home and have always wanted to try it, especially since I heard the food was good. I'm always a sucker for good Italian food. I decided to order a wide variety of pasta through UberEATS by getting the spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccine Alfredo, and Meat lasagna, as well as a slice of tiramisu. The first thing that struck me was the prices: they're really good for what you get! One thing I didn't realize is that every pasta comes with 2 pieces of their wonderful garlic bread, which was absolutely delicious (you can tell it was fresh). They're pretty much the size of a large cinnamon roll, so be prepared because the price makes you think you're only getting the pasta and that's not the case. Let's start with the garlic rolls, because that's what I tried first. They were really good: crispy outside and soft, pillowy inside with just the perfect hint of garlic flavor. A great appetizer if you don't order an actual appetizer. The spaghetti was pretty good, although the pasta was a bit overcooked, but that's really nit-picky because it wasn't mush, just slightly soft. It had a generous portion of sauce, and I really appreciated that. The meatballs tasted great, but were a little soft as well. Overall, a nice dish. The Alfredo was also pretty good. I found it to be lacking some seasoning, but nothing a pinch of salt from me couldn't fix. My tastes are a little on the salty side, so maybe that's just me. The creaminess was on point and the pasta this time was cooked perfectly and it was nice and al dente. The lasagna was good as well. There wasn't really much to comment on this one other that it was just as you'd expect from a lasagna: nothing mind-blowing. But it's good. Finally, the tiramisu. This was pretty good, and you get a good portion for $4.95. Whereas some places charge you $8 for a piece 3/4 of the size of Cafe Amore, here they are obviously of the belief that the bigger the better. So overall, I was pretty happy with what I received. It's not the best Italian food ever, but considering what you get for the price, I'd say it's one of the best values I've ever had when it comes to Italian food in the DFW area. It just gives you the feeling of homemade food, which when you think about it, is exactly what we all need in the depths of the current pandemic. So do yourself a favor and try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Pros: It offers $4.99 and $7.99 lunch specials. The house bread is very good and the staff is friendly. They serve Pepsi, not Coke, which is great for Pepsi lovers because it's difficult to find Pepsi products in Dallas restaurants. Cons: Service was slow and we ate there at 1:15pm. The fettuccine alfredo and lasagna were mediocre and left a weird aftertaste. Overall, it would be a decent place to go for your lunch hour, but I would not waste time going there for dinner or on the weekend, especially since dinner prices are quite a bit higher and I can't imagine the food being any better. Also, if you count your calories, don't waste them here. I usually go to Aboca's in Richardson, which I love, but Cafe Amore was much closer to my work and I love trying new Italian places. This is a small family run old school neighborhood Italian place and there is a cool vibe to it that I just love. Their food is pretty decent, but will not likely be the best Italian food you will eat, unless it is the Eggplant Parmesean, then it very well might be...seriously, if you like Eggplant Parmesean, give theirs a tey and you will not be disappointed. Other Italian staples: Spaghetti =pretty decent, Fetuccine Alfredo=OK, but a bit too garlicky for my personal taste, Pizza=Very respectable...you get the picture. They hit on all cylindars here, but excell to the category of "best" on very few. But there is a thing this place offers that makes them a HUGE hit on most nights, such a hit that sometimes you will have a considerable wait for a table...that is the fact that they are BYOB. Just ordered take out from there, got the baked ziti and let me tell ya. It is so freaking good. I ordered it off the lunch specials for $7 which is crazy cheap considering the amount of food you get. This is definitely enough for two (if you have the self control to not eat it all at once). You get a hand sized deep dish bowl filled, two breads and a salad. I'm also a huge fan of the house dressing, it's like a tomato vinaigrette. Last night was another great experience, with me having linguine carbonara and hubby ordering his favorite, lasagna. With our dinners came four huge rolls (another of hubby's faves). I ordered a chicken piccata with veges and chicken marsala with gnocchi with a soup and salad to go. I was upcharged for 2 gnocchi's when I only got one. I did not get the soup. The salad was wimpy. The chicken Marsala was in the same container as the gnocchi with the tomato sauces so the sauces all blended together didn't taste like the Marsala anticipated. Veges in the Piccata were hard and not cooked. Almost raw. Hard to get staffs attention since they were on their phones when I came in. I'm so sad writing this review because I have been going to cafe amore for years and the food is great, but the way the manager speaks to her employees is awful. I was there for 15 min and she was berating the girl taking orders over the phone. The girl was trying her best and it made me sick the way she was being treated. If you've ever worked in the service industry this is your worst nightmare. She also yelled at me for not saying my order exactly the way it was on the menu. Great food and service - came here on a weeknight and it wasn't too busy, mostly just couples that seemed to be regulars along with some families. The food was amazing and vegetarian friendly!! The bread that comes as a starter with the oil was one of my favorite parts of the meal. It was so fluffy and full of air but also flavorful. I could have eaten an entire loaf of it if it was in front of me. We ordered the bruschetta and cheesy garlic bread to start, nothing particularly noteworthy. I wouldn't order these again, rather just wait until the bread gets to your table. For main, the eggplant Florentine was okay as well. It was a huge portion which was great value for money and the taste was good, but again not particularly noteworthy. When I'm back next time I'll probably just get another pasta dish or personal pizza. Creme brûlée and tiramisu - oh my god they were so good. Would recommend.
