Time of Day: Sunday 5:30p.m.
Upon getting to the restaurant we were seated by one of the two waiters who were working tables for the night. Drink orders were prompt, but even with the moderate traffic within the restaurant our waitress seemed overwhelmed with the large family that her counterpart was struggling with which took her a bit to get to us ordering. My dining partner eventually had to flag the waitress down to take our orders.
The manager was obviously on site sitting at his laptop, but he seemed nonplussed by his staff trying to keep up with the plates that were coming out of the kitchen.
Food ordered:
Stuffed Mushrooms
Garlic bread
Margherita pizza
Stromboli
While we waited for our food we were served their complimentary bread with their olive oil, herb, and balsamic vinegar blend. Their in house bread is far superior than their garlic bread. They were piping hot, crisp with a garlic olive oil Parmesan dusting outside, but the insides had a nice fluff to them.
Shortly after this we got our garlic bread, which is pretty standard. I will say though the butter portion looked like it had an even portion of olive oil with butter.
The highlight of our meal came out, the stuffed mushrooms. Though the stuffed mushrooms were tasty by themselves, little baby bella caps filled with crab and herb bread crumb mixture it was the sauce it all came in that was absolutely delectable. It resembled the color of lobster bisque. I'm not exactly sure what they put in it, but we were dipping everything into it, including my pizza. If I could have brought home a jar of that stuff I would have it was that delicious.
The timing was perfect with our entrées. What made this particular Margherita a bit different from others I had, had was that they did not use a red sauce and one of the cheeses used was ricotta. It brought a bit more depth to the flavors where the basil was an assault to your taste buds. The crust was FINALLY a true Neapolitan crust not too thick or thin with that crisp you expect. My only complaint was I could tell it had been ready well before my dining partner's Stromboli because it was lukewarm while his was burn the roof of your mouth hot.
Service:
Though it started out on a bad note, our waitress seemed a bit less overwhelmed after the large family left and the bus boy/host started helping out. She agreed about the stuffed mushroom magic sauce, and she asked before removing if we wanted to keep it on the table. Observing her at other tables she was trying her best to juggle them all while staying congenial. Toward the middle of our dining experience it did get quite busy with large families, which oddly enough were better managed than toward the beginning.
Price:
$26 after tax, excellent price considering we got what they would consider two appetizers, one drink, and two entrées. We also filled up on so much amazing bread that we ended up with half of both our meals. It's just a shame there was no room for dessert.
Overall impressions:
Service
This place could get out of hand since their waitstaff is bare minimum at best. I nearly did not get to try the food since we were tempted to leave due to the long wait just for our orders to be taken.
Food
This is where this restaurant completely redeemed itself. Their bread and sauces are made by somebody who takes pride in their work, and those two alone will keep me coming to this restaurant.
Atmosphere
Cheesy love ballads, seriously that's all they play. The inside reminds me of a Cheesecake factor with it's decor and murals, over the top. At least it gives you something to look at while you are waiting for your order to be taken.
Price
This would definitely save a lot of money for families eating out. Everything is very affordable and the portions are generous. Also, BYOB is tempting for those who spend a pretty penny on a bottle of wine while dining Italian. read more
