We had a great experience. Shoutout to Numan at the front. He was so caring and attentive, I thought he was the manager. He definitely deserves a raise for how well he treated us! The food was amazing. Everyone loved the burgers - they were just perfect. The garlic Parmesan fries were great, but the fried pickles were even better. The fig and goat cheese burger should be on the regular menu, not just a special. I had the Escabeche Burger and it was awesome. Right up my alley with everything spicy. It's a kid-friendly place too, and the bartender was really nice.

Haystack is arguably the best place to eat in Hillcrest Village especially when the weather's beautiful, you can sit outside, and your kids can play all around freely and safely. It might be the best factor Haystack has going for itself. Since it's not a greet-and-sit restaurant where you have a waiter, there isn't much to say about the service. People take your orders. You pay them. Food is brought to your table. That sums up the service, and it can be hit or miss. Maybe they'll bring you that extra plate you asked for, or maybe you'll get up and awkwardly stand at the kitchen entrance to ask for one after it became clear no one was coming back. This is the kind of place where you grab your own silverware, napkins, condiments, and drinks. So service hardly factors into Haystack's appeal. Pros on the food: the prices are fair because the portions are towering. From mountainous heaps of chips with salsa and queso, or personal fav fried pickles, to any burger or sandwich on the menu. Seriously, they're huge. We always order one kid's burger to split between my two littles and it's plenty. I'd split a burger with my wife if she wasn't traditional and I wasn't explorative. I do love seeing so many varied options of the American classic. I keep feeling an adventure is awaiting when I order. Cons on the food: for all the creative combinations to crunch on top of the patties, the flavors have never been robust or breathtaking. Something gets lost in all that innovation and I can't tell what it is. Any burger that boasts heat - that's really all it has going for it. I do like The Barn and Escabeche burgers, but somehow they're only one note. All those toppings seem like it would be a symphony of deliciousness. Same for the El Tres that I think is supposed to be named for three cheeses but there are only two? I must be wrong. Regardless, it's flavors fall flat and not even its size makes up for it. One thing definitely not going for Haystack are the bathrooms. Shamefully filthy and unkept. Management needs to bring the hammer down on that because it can ruin an appetite. But I do love coming here for the atmosphere and location. It's great for families to get together and let the kids be free as birds while parents get some adult topics in. (Who'm I kidding? We just talk about our kids.) I still am hopeful that in the other menu items I haven't tried yet there will be one that will make me go from "Haystack? Eh, alright," to "Haystack? I love that place!"

I have eaten at least 10 meals at 2 other Haystack locations, all were great! Today, my little cloud of happiness crashed to the ground. Instead of the usual fresh, juicy, hamburger patty... this was DOA. These mushrooms were sliced so thin... they were see-through! The french-fried potatos were cold & old. I arrived at 4PM, ahead of their dinner / happy hour rush, I was only customer here! It was hard to get anyone's attention, so I had to announce myself, laughing. C'mon guys, don't look annoyed. I guess this is a "Locals Only" home turf? The next customers were cheerily welcomed, started a big chatty convo, got backrubs, etc! The Hillcrest Village shopping mall has a grass play area, with modest outdoor playground, with Haystack, and other eateries surrounding. There is also a pay-to-play indoor businesss here. If you have youngsters, they can get in some kid business here! Parking pro tip: No parking next to, or near Haystack. Park in the east end lot, walk west past "Cane Russo" restaurant (red pig statue out front). Now, look for a silver/chrome metal "totem pole" art statue about 20 feet tall, Haystack is back behind this totem pole. Outdoor seating with umbrella tables. Indoor seating on hardwood seats, modern industrial metal chairs. The dozen bar seats are padded with backrests. *Power outlets under the bar counter! Twin big screens behind the beertaps. At 5PM it was 35% capacity, a few families with kids, some friends meeting at the bar, and a few solo burger fans. I hope they all enjoy their meals.

Haystack never disappoints. The burgers are delicious! Fried pickles always hit the spot and they have a variety of options for the whole family. Cocktails are delicious featuring local distilleries.

Same great Haystack burgers but at a new location! We've gone to the Haystack's at Belt Line & Coit for many, many years. It's a pretty small location and parking is hard to come by there but still has the great food we love! This location is on the west side of the green space at Arapaho and Hillcrest. Ample parking (at least for now - all storefront spaces are not filled up yet). We were greeted by Drew, he was very friendly and helpful! We were on our way home from the airport and were tired and wanted to take our food home to eat it. We ordered our usual Down on The Farm burger, homemade sweet potato chips and today tried a cookies and cream milkshake. The milkshakes looked huge and Drew asked if we wanted it split into 2 cups! Awesome!!

Seated at the bar area , came in on a very busy Friday afternoon and still got the food pretty fast , found seating with no hassle , and the woman who took our order even checked up on us. Love the view , lots of kids playing right outside which is extremely awesome to see!!! Got the haystack burger , loved it along with half and half fries and onions rings.!!! The Haystack Burger was delicious! Great size, the meat was seasoned, and the fries were hot and fresh. This was my first time here, but I'll update my review when I try more of the menu. So far so good

Check out the open front...nice!

Meh. The food is slightly above fast food. The bar is fine. It has some beer and wine and a few liquors. The burgers were unimpressive.

This unassuming restaurant tucked in a corner of nondescript row of stores has stood the test of time. My first review of the place was in 2013. Here it is 13 years later then it is still going strong. I went for lunch with the family on a snow day. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. No numbers, they just remember who you are. I always get combo number 1 and add sweet potato fries. The prices are great and not much more than McDonalds but the difference in value is significant. The burgers are not thick but this time I noticed the double burger (#2) is just a couple of bucks more than the the single patty in #1. Note to self for next time. Although the patty is thin, the flavors work. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard. No ketchup, you add that yourself. The bun with sesame seeds always comes out piping hot. Sweet potato fries are crispy and not greasy. The combo comes with a drink for $10.99. That's a deal. I hope they stay in business another 13 years!

The patties are juicy, the buns are toasted perfectly, and everything tastes fresh and made with care. You can tell they are not trying to be trendy. If you care more about flavor than atmosphere, this is the spot.

The neighborhood may continue to change around it, but Chip's remains the same. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Chip's has an old school, nostalgic feel. The restaurant has an iconic sloping roof with a yellow outdoor exterior and a big green sign with its logo. Inside, there are plenty of booths, a bar, and even outdoor seating. Chip's has grown and expanded over the years but to me that adds to the nostalgic charm. 1 Star. Service - Chip's may have invented counter service. Upon entering, you look at the menu posted on the wall and place your order. You'll get a number (or they'll ask for your name), and you grab a table, and when your food is ready it comes out. Fast, efficient, and the staff was super friendly. 1 Star. Food - Chip's is known for its poppy seed hamburger buns. While it's pretty and tasty, the most important part, the patty, is pretty average. Honestly, there are many other great burger joints in Dallas. On the other hand, the fried onion strings are a must order for your side. While I wasn't a fan of the burger, the fried onion strings saved my meal. The Oreo and Fresh Banana shakes were also a nice cold, creamy, sweet ending to my meal. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. I hope Chip's never changes. The restaurant has an iconic look, it's part of Dallas history, and the staff is great. 1 Star.

The reason I take off one star is because I ordered the turkey burger, but when the chef brought it out he said "here's your chicken burger". The fried pickles were great. Just vibes and love.

The burger itself was just alright, was a little cold for me though so not so sure how long it was waiting. The lettuce and tomato was a little on the soggy side. The meat itself was just alright.
