Based on the reviews, I did not know what to expect! The ambiance was okay, just very basic. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was very polite and efficient. There was no cocktail/wine/beer menu so my husband just ordered a Jack and coke. For appetizers, we got mozzarella sticks, they were pretty decent. For entrees, I got blackened tilapia with broccoli and onion rings. The serving was big. I was really impressed with the tilapia, it was well seasoned and had a good spice level. The blackened chicken Southwestern salad was also huge, the chicken was tender and grilled onions added a lot of flavor. For dessert, we got the coconut cream pie, it was delicious. Over all, it was a nice dining experience and great value for money.

Always good food and great service. Been coming here for years, walked in Sunday after church. Freshly painted walls everything looked very nice, did not think it looked bad before. So Grand Reopening October 4th. Great waiter today, I had the Turkey and dressing special, my lady had chop steak special and Mom had veggie plate, sweet tea and water with lemon all around. This place has a full bar as well, nope not for me, but help yourself. New menus but all the wonderful comfort food, pies and root beer floats you can handle. I have no doubt we'll be back soon. Thank you, stay safe, wait ! Did I mention they are about to have a Gran Reopening October 4th!

Local restaurant featuring home style cooking. This is the only place I've seen Hoppin' John on the menu as side dish.

Betty waited on our table. She had such good energy and was super knowledgeable about the menu. I'd like to come back and request her specifically. My husband had the smoked shrimp and grits and I had the smoked fried chicken with lemon mashed potatoes and street corn. Both were excellent! I'm not in this area of Dallas often, but I will make it a point to come back. I forgot to mention my cocktail! I had the Honey Bourbon Limoncello and boy was it good. I'm a lightweight so I couldn't try any of the other cocktails but their cocktails all look delicious!

The highlight of the night was easily our server, truly one of the best I've ever had. Friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. If the review were based on service alone, it would be five stars. We started with the chicken nachos, which were fresh and actually pretty good. For entrees, we ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak was very bland and tasted like it was missing seasoning altogether. The sides were okay, but nothing memorable. We also tried the rib plate with corn and mashed potatoes. Again, it was edible, but the flavors just didn't pop, everything felt like it needed more seasoning or a stronger profile to stand out. The staff was great across the board, but the food just didn't match the level of service. Not the worst experience, but definitely not the best food wise.

I am not a big fish person and hubby loves something fried so a healthy fishy meal isn't our first go to, but we went outside our normal tonight. And we left so satisfied. For apps, the mac and cheese bites with crab. This should feel heavy but it doesn't. Moist and full of flavor. We did the crab fingers (special on the black board... pay attention to the specials they are fire). Tons of crab for the price and the chowder type sauce was so good. I just wish I had more bread to soak it up. Dinner was the tuna with mango sauce. I got mine rare and it was perfectly cooked. The filet was well seasoned and the sauce complimented it well. Large portion of tuna. He got the special (do not sleep on the black board) flounder stuffed with crab and shrimp. Absolutely amazing. I have never ever ordered flounder before but I guarantee ill order it if we return and its a special. Service was fast snd everyone was attentive. Cant wait until we go back.

The menu pricing is fair given its seafood but not super affordable either. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller. The oysters were massive! However, I wasn't really a fan of the sauce, and especially not the lettuce. Because the dish was served hot, the lettuce was soggy and impacted both the texture and taste of the overall dish. The best thing, in my opinion, were the Mac and cheese crab cakes. A truly genius combination. Lastly, the fried catfish was just okay. It was kind of bland but not super crispy either. The portion is really big though. The fries on the side were soggy too and could have spent a couple more minutes in the frier.

However, I sometimes have to be in north Dallas for business, and this one on Forest is close enough to justify the side trip. I can still say that Mike's has the best damn chicken in DFW. I agree that the sides can be a little underwhelming, and nowadays I usually just grab a couple spicy breasts (yea baby) and sometimes an order of fries (nothing fancy, still good) and forget the plates. But honestly, this is one of those places that you come for the main attraction and if you're counting anything else, well, that's just not right. Yes, you can wait 15 minutes or more when you order at the counter. I've finally come to the point where when my work is done, I borrow someone's computer and order it online, and it's usually ready by the time I get there. This is the way to do it. It's so hot when I pick it up, by the time I get back to my main hub 20-30 minutes later, it's the perfect temp to eat. Don't listen to any Elite types who bad mouth any of the locations. I've never had anything but perfect chicken here. Try it for yourself.

I kept wondering who Mike was, so I looked it up--turns out Mike's Chicken is Vietnamese-owned, which somehow made me trust the operation even more. Fair warning: when you go, be ready to wait about 20 minutes--or order ahead like someone who values their time. They cook everything to order. I was like, what? In this fast-food age of heat lamps and broken dreams? But the wait is worth it. The chicken comes out fresh and hot as fuck. Crispy, juicy, and clearly made by people who respect the craft. This isn't grab-and-go chicken. This is sit down, shut up, and appreciate chicken.
