The customer service was great, everyone was very friendly and the food is absolutely phenomenal , I would rate 5 stars had it not been for my terrible experience with my to go order. I ordered 3 dishes, one of them was the spaetzle alsacienne. Unfortunately they use the flimsy tin to go containers with the paper lids and this dish contains a lot of liquid, creamy delicious liquid, but still liquid. Whoever packed my order put the spaetzle at the bottom with two very heavy dishes stacked on top and all of it was put into the same large paper bag rather than packed individually. The flimsy tin holding the spaetzle caved under the weight and all of the liquid leaked out into the bag. By the time I got home the cheesy cream liquid had leaked all into the floor of my car. when I went to pick up the bag, it poured all over my car, clothes and phone before I had a moment to realize what was happening. Now my phone speaker isn't working properly due to the thick liquid getting inside and I had to let the food get cold while I cleaned the dairy mixture out of my car to avoid a rotting smell the following day. I was so looking forward to enjoying the food and the whole experience really ruined my night. I understand it was an unintentional mistake and these things happen. I just wish more thought would have gone into packing the order. I definitely think a more durable plastic to go container with a sturdy lid would be a more appropriate investment for orders contains a lot of liquids. I will say that even after having to reheat the beef Wellington And ratatouille , it was still delicious! I can only imagine how great it would've been had I eaten it hot and fresh. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the spaetzle. It dried out when reheated because all of the liquid had poured out but I'm sure it would've been great had it been consumed freshly served in the restaurant. I would still recommend cafe Alsace to anyone looking for delicious French cuisine and wonderful in person service, I would just warn them to take the time to check and possibly adjust how their order is packed before heading home. read more

My fiance and I recently went to Cafe Alsace with a friend for dinner. It would have been ideal to dine for two instead of three. Nonetheless, it still made for an enjoyable, rustic and gastronomic experience at Cafe Alsace. They had the Salmon over asparagus and I had the best Coq au Vin ever in Atlanta. I usually rate the quality of the French restaurant on the quality of the c-a-v ; truly; it was well seasoned, aromatic, with the sweet after taste of the wine. I had it with a very flavorful quinoa and sweet cabbage also dressed in a wine reduction. Magnifique! I would rate it a (5/5 ) but I have only gone there once and would only give it a five if I have been there three times and receive consistently great results. As for the service, it was good but one must expect it to be a slow dining experience as the French do. Don't plan for much after the dinner because you might not make it to your appointment. Cafe Alsace is one of my very favorite restaurants of all time! First of all, the place is adorable. Benedicte has decorated the cozy space in a way that makes you feel like you have travelled to France for a spell. There are sweet Alsacian items for sale and plenty of interesting things hanging on the walls. It is my favorite spot for a romantic dinner, but many families come in and the kids are always well behaved and enjoying themselves very much. I have also dined by myself at dinner and had a lovely time. Everyone who works at Cafe Alsace is extremely kind, and dinners moves along slowly at a pace that helps enrich the decadence of the food. The menu changes seasonally and there are frequently specials. One of these specials was duck confit baked in a pastry. It is so unbelievably delicious, that I would be tempted to eat meat again if it made an appearance. This is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I have also had the spaetzle with seafood. It is the definition of "rich." Heavy cream, butter and cheese are baked with spaetzle and accompanied by tons of very fresh seafood. If you are looking for something lighter, I highly recommend scallops. The chef cooks them perfectly so that they melt in your mouth. I am not normally a fan of truffle oil, but when included with the scallops it is subtle and serves as an enhancement rather than overpowering the dish. Desserts are awesome! Homemade ice cream is rich and smooth. You can even grab a scoop to fo, if you like. The honey lavender is a treat and since lavender is infrequently tasted, the flavors are surprising and delightful. The chocolate cake with espelette is sinful. I really love spicy dark chocolate and this is one of the best cakes I've ever had. You will leave Cafe Alsace extremely full of rich comforting food. However, because it is so expertly prepared and the ambience is so delightful, you will feel jubilant (and maybe a little sleepy). read more

We found this place last Sunday after going to sweet Melissa and seeing the huge Line of people waiting for a table. I'm very glad we found it! The first time we went with three little kids and it is quite a small space but luckily the kids behaved. It's good to see the Mojo is still working! We took a trip down memory lane by revisiting Cafe Alsace and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere and decor still charm, and the service is very attentive. Our appetizer of pate was large, fresh, and tasty. In fact, it was a little to sizable for two, and we couldn't quite finish it. It would be perfect for a group of four. I had the crepe special which was lamb, and my companion had pork cheeks. Both were quite fresh, well seasoned, and quite good. Again the portions were more than enough for us. A desert of a pear turnover with ice cream was light, fluffy, and not too sweet. Perfection! Wow. Atlanta doesn't have many good restaurants that are Mom and Pop owned like big cities so its nice to find something that isn't a chain. I have been to Cafe Alsace several times for dinner and brunch. I truly recommend this restaurant - small and cozy. Most importantly, the food and wine are great! I remember the first time my friend and I coming to this restaurant and were mesmerized by their severing of Pinot Noir and Pate du Chef (appetizer). I am not a desert person, yet their Profiterolles are fantastic! Not too sweet; the texture of the puffs and the mix taste of vanilla ice-cream and chocolate melted in your month! I love them. Located in the downtown area of Decatur where it is impossible to find affordable parking there is a quaint authentically French bistro with daily specials written on a chalkboard sign on the sidewalk. If going to this establishment on the weekend, be careful as wait times can be long and rightfully so. The food is fresh, well seasoned, well portioned, and authentic. The menu is packed with so many classic french dishes and the board is filled with many awesome choices which only adds to the complex decision of choosing a meal. My general philosophy is to always try a staple item first visit and if you love it return for the tour de force. As this was our first time I selected the Eggs d'alsace which came with roasted red potatoes baked with kabanos sausage, tomatoes, and french cheese cooked in a dish topped with two sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. The dish was both simple and complex with minimal ingredients allowing the natural flavors of each component to naturally shine through. The sausage added a natural meaty spicy flavor, the cherry tomatoes gave a bit of acidity, the potatoes a natural starch seasoned well with salt and pepper and all of that bound together with the yolkiness of the sunny side up egg. It truly was a simple yet complex dish executed perfectly. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Regarding service expect slow service, but again it's because the restaurant is packed, the food is fresh and prepared with love. Be patient!. Greatness takes time. Cafe Alsace was such a fun dining experience! First, the ambience is incredibly authentic and playful. The decor truly makes you feel like you're in a restaurant in France. Additionally, the staff is so friendly! They boast a joie de vivre dining experience, which means that they truly want you to take time and enjoy your meal. This is definitely a more European style of eating because the servers won't come to your table every 5-10 minutes because they don't want you to feel rushed. I really appreciated this because it was mine and my husband's anniversary dinner, so this style of service really allowed us to appreciate our meal and each other. That being said, if you do need anything, a simple wave will bring extremely friendly service right to your table in no time! Now as for the food, this was a truly unique experience! I have never had Alsatian, so it was really cool to see the French, Swiss, and German influence on the menu! My husband and I shared a Tour de France cheese platter, and it was amazing! There were 6 very different, but delicious cheeses to try. Not to mention, the bread was incredible. For our entrees, I ordered the veal cordon bleu, and my husband ordered the traditional spaetzle. Both dishes came with side salads, and both were really tasty! The only thing that was surprising (but still good) was the heartiness and size of the portions. I have tried to eat at Cafe Alsace several times, but it is often packed (especially on the weekend evenings) and they only take reservations for parties of four or more. Alas, I finally snagged a table for Sunday brunch. The worst part about my experience: having to choose what to eat. There were so many delicious things on the menu so ordering was quite difficult. I ended up ordering the crepe du jour: a crepe stuffed with chicken, sundried pears, almonds, spinach, barley, and mozarella served with roasted rosemary potatoes and toast. If it sounds like a lot, it was! I proudly (but maybe unwisely) polished off every, worthwhile bite. The crepe was very rich and savory. The grain notes of the barley really stood out, which I appreciated. The delightful, creamy, buttery sauce on top complemented it perfectly. The roasted potatoes were roasted to perfection and accented perfectly with rosemary. My toast was also amazing which I appreciated. I mean, when I go to a French restaurant I expect out of this world bread! My husband got the Crepe a la Saucisse which is a crepe stuffed with scrambled eggs, mozzarella, and andouille sausage. It was a lot of food! He enjoyed it, but also noted is quite rich and heavy (not in a bad way!). I personally am not a sausage fan, so I didn't care for the andouille, but my husband thought that it was a highlight. The service was also friendly and quick, but not so you felt rushed. My recommendation would be to go with someone who wants to share so you can taste a few different dishes. The portions are hearty and there are just too many options! Parking is tricky and for pay in downtown Decatur. The crepes are their solid specialty. Other food is tasty, with flaws. And depending on yr style will determine how much you can overlook & enjoy. Our nicoise salad was decent but the tuna was over cooked. When pointed out the waitress showed one part that was properly rare, but she was resistant to returning to the chef. Rich, buttery food that makes you think of home and family dinners. We went here on a whim when a restaurant around the corner was packed. There was no one in when we walked in so we thought twice but it quickly filled up after we were seated. For breakfast, we got a quiche with chanterelles and broccoli that was a special. It was fantastic! The crust was butter and warm. The inside was filled with cheese and cream and tasted so good. The chanterelles on top were cooked to perfection. Still a little firm but so savory. It was just a perfect dish. On the side they served roasted potatoes that were literally covered in herbs de Provence. You didn't even need to eat them. Just smelling them was intoxicating. I've been a fan of this restaurant for years. Walking on Ponce in downtown Decatur, you could have passed this small restaurant by without noticing it. After all, it is next door to No. 246 and not far from Leon's Full Service. In comparison to those two restaurants, it may not even fit one of their bars in Cafe Alsace. Total seating indoors is only about 40. I remember going to Cafe Alsace the first time and didn't know what to expect of it. I have been to other "French" restaurants in and around Atlanta and most of them just didn't give me the idealized French feeling. They were modern, served Americanized French food, and just not having the atmosphere. So when I open up the dinner menu at Cafe Alsace, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it serves traditional French dishes. Now, I suppose you, smart reader, has guessed from this restaurant's name that the owner is from the Alsace region of France so its menu reflects that region, not Paris. Because of that, its French dishes are have heavy German influence, to say the least. But oh boy, I am still in love with this place. They make their bread daily and it is the best bread I've every had, regardless if it's a croissant or a baguette, couple with their brie and jam, it's an appetizer you must have. All entrees come with a salad and more bread! For the more French side of entrees, I would recommend the veal, the duck breast, or the chicken breast. For more of the German side, I would recommend any of the spaetzles or the Choucroute garnie. It is also the only place I know of that serves beef wellington and it is good! Beyond the food, what really attracts me to this restaurant is its the genuine French feeling. The owner is French, she decorated the restaurant with all French items she brought from France, every wait staff speaks French, and they never rush you! I was once told by Ms. Cooper, the owner, that a French experience should be enjoyable and takes a while to enjoy. That is true! We always spend two hours eating our meal at this place and never found it to be boring. Having said all these great things about Cafe Alsace, I do have a problem with the fact that it is so small, you can't make a reservation unless you have a party of 4 or more. That means, if you have only less than four people and you want to go to it on a weekend, you better line up at 6 p.m. to make sure you get seats. Otherwise, the restaurant is filled up within the first 45 minutes and the tables won't turn until 8 or 8:30 p.m. I know I haven't talked about the desert and the brunch, but that might have to be a separate post. It is located on the main strip of E. Ponce De Leon , close to Brickstore Pub, between Eurasia and Red Door Salon. I had lunch here, and ordered the Meat Pie with a salad of fig and Dijon dressing. The restaurant had great ratings, but I am sadly disappointed based on my lunch experience. It was hypertension on a plate, the Pie was super salty, but the crust was very nice and flaky.. I am hoping the chef accidentally added too much salt in prepping for today's pies.. and that my next visit can be a better experience.. The shop is very cute and small, and does reminisce of a small shop in France. The fig/Dijon dressing was more like a creamier vinaigrette, and that was the lasting impression on my palate, balsamic vinegar. I definitely do want to come back here for dinner, because the ratings are so good, that I am hoping maybe the 2ND time it will be different.. What was good was the slice of french bread that came with the whole meal, it was nice and crispy on the outside and doughy niceness on the inside.. other then that I was thirsty as can be from the salt overload.. I think if the chef tasted the meat pie filling they would be thirsty too, the filling had sausage, grounded meat, mushrooms, all great ingredients, but the salt killed it.. next time less salt and more shroom..then my 2 stars can be replaced by 3 maybe even 4. read more

We live in town and thought we'd make the trip out to Decatur just to check this place out. My husband is from Southeast Germany, so I often cook these sorts of dishes myself. What a disappointment. This is not by any stretch of the imagination real French food. The sauces were flavorless, the scallops were undercooked and the beef overdone. My husband and I recently went to Cafe Alsace to celebrate our first anniversary, and we had a wonderful experience! The atmosphere is very French country style, and it's very intimate with only about 20 tables. Thanks to my mom (who called the restaurant in advance), we were brought 2 glasses of champagne when we sat down, which made it feel really festive. We also had a nice Rhone valley red wine that was very reasonably priced. I had the beef wellington (tenderloin wrapped in puff pastry), and it was really tender and flavorful. I don't know about you, but I have never even seen beef wellington on a menu (other than at a wedding). It was delicious! My husband had the beef short ribs, and those were really tender and tasty as well. A little salty, but that does not bother me personally. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse, and I think this was the best chocolate mousse I've ever had (and I really don't think it was just b/c I had had all that wine either). It was a rich, dark chocolate mousse and very creamy - sometimes mousse can be a little too whipped or something, but this was just the right texture. I am definitely going back to try some spaetzle and homemade ice cream! Service was very attentive as well, and they all wished us a happy anniversary! read more

strangely enough, i've never made it to cafe alsace for dinner. their sunday brunch is so amazing that me and my fiancee wait all week for it sometimes. we make the trek from downtown atlanta to downtown decatur after church about one sunday a month, and it's like traveling to a cozy little corner of france, far away from the bustle of life in atlanta. the service can be slow sometimes, but it's always friendly and cheerful, and the food is divine! we always have the mini-croissants, a selection of plain, almond, and chocolate croissants drizzled with chocolate sauce and whipped cream, to begin. i usually have a cafe viennoise to wash everything down, while tori gets her usual, early grey hot tea (why a french restaurant stocks early grey tea escapes me, but it keeps her happy, so that's what's important!). they usually offer a special quiche (usually salmon and brie, or something equally scrumptious), and always have the quiche lorraine. the crepes are excellent, and the 'eggs benedicte' (a french version of eggs benedict, offered on croissant or bread) is superb. we really do intend to try cafe alsace for dinner one day, but for now, we are perfectly content traveling to decatur, and a world away, for one of the best sunday brunch experiences in this side of the eiffel tower! read more

We've lived in Decatur for 2 years now and have walked past this place a million times. After hearing numerous people recommend cafe Alsace we finally tried it. After waiting to be seated for 2 to 3 minutes, we both thought - typical European restaurant with horrible service. This wasn't the case as the rest of the evening we received great service. The food was amazing which would of more than made up for any amount of poor service. Escargo and pate to start were both amazing. My wife's Beef Wellington was great, my brie, spinach and pecan stuffed chicken was unbelievable! The sauce, as one would assume at a French restaurant, was crazy good. I feel that the bill was reasonable as well. 2 apps, 3 glasses of wine, 2 entrees and dessert and the bill came to $100. read more
