Ever since my son started at OSU four years ago, I've passed by this restaurant many times and always wondered what it was like. I finally tried it on this trip, and it was wonderful. Delicious! The food here isn't greasy at all. You can choose your preferred spice level when ordering, and the ingredients are fresh. The dishes are served on trays reminiscent of those used in traditional Chinese tea ceremonies. The side of rice is cooked on the firmer side, but once you mix it with the sauce, the texture becomes perfect. The prices are student‑friendly, and the portions are just right. I can't believe such a great restaurant is located right next to the OSU campus. It's been a week since I ate there, and I'm already itching to go back. I spent six years living in China, so I feel like I have at least a halfway decent sense of what Chinese food should taste like. I know that Kung Pao Chicken is the go-to safe bet on the menu, kind of like the chef's choice of Chinese food. But man, this one just didn't land. I asked for a 4 out of 5 on spice, I wanted something with some heat, but not like a dare. What I got had all the firepower of a bell pepper. Maybe someone from rural Wisconsin might've found it adventurous, but for anyone who's had the real thing, this was at the same level of bbq sauce. One of the things I genuinely enjoy about going to Chinese restaurants is keeping up my Mandarin, having a quick chat with the staff, maybe hearing a few regional accents. No dice here. The guy up front was a white dude with no idea what zhōngguó cài even is, and the kitchen staff were speaking Spanish the whole time. Which, fine, but maybe don't brand yourself like you're bringing authentic Sichuan to town when the closest you get is a laminated picture of a dragon and some questionable chicken. Food was edible. Service was fine. Place was quiet. But the whole thing felt like the ghost of a Panda Express trying to pass as something more serious. I was in Stillwater for an appt. I stopped in for a boba tea. It smelled so good in there I also ordered some pork pot stickers and there was a sign saying try their new sesame balls with red bean paste. These are the most amazing things I have ever tasted. The dough was soft and sweet and crispy and the bean paste didn't gap (have air bubbles) inside. They are absolute heaven! Also the boba was fresh and the Thai tea was great! I have only tried the beef fried rice, but it was right on! Not too greasy and full of flavor. I also liked that the beef was cut really small. Usually, the meat is big chunks, but not today!! I have heard great things about Cafe 88 but was a little nervous after reading the reviews. We went on a Monday night and it was not busy at all. We got orange beef and bourbon mushroom chicken. I had gotten fried rice with mine and i am a fan of veggies in my fried rice so that is always a pleasant surprise when trying new asian restaurants! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! We are avid fans of Mongolian beef from China Wok in south Oklahoma and was very surprised with the orange beef being so similar! We will definitely be back. I do think the prices per serving size are smaller compared to other Chinese/asian restaurants. read more

It's an Asian restaurant in Stillwater...I didn't have super high hopes for this place. The mapo tofu with beef was actually pretty decent. Bubble tea was eh. Milk tea was okay - not amazing, not horrible. The tapioca balls were a bit too overdone and they weren't soaked in syrup, so they were bland. read more

Cafe 88 was on a list of recommendations from the hotel I was staying at. I was warned it might be closed but was happy to find it still open. I arrived and started reading through their large menu, asking about what seemed as though it should be a more savory dish I was informed it was actually sweet. Being diabetic this wasn't going to work for me. So I asked for a savory and non-spicy option and was directed at the Kung Pao Chicken, when I asked about it being spicy I was told it wasn't spicy unless you wanted it to be. I said I would try that then, based on this assurance. I was also disappointed to find the bubble tea did not offer sweetness options as is generally standard, so I couldn't order one. The time it took to get my order was reasonable, when I got to my hotel I found it to look fresh and be a good portion size for the cost. Unfortunately I was unable to eat more than a few bites as it was very spicy. All in all it was a waste of my time and my money. When I make my next visit to Stillwater this will not be on my list of options. read more

New to Stillwater and was excited to give this place a try. Arrived at 6:00 pm on a Friday and it was kind of packed but not too much, however, I was able to find a place to sit . I ordered the fried pork wontons, egg rolls, combination fried rice, and curry rice noodles. To drink I ordered the kiwi slushee. The food arrived 20 mins after I ordered. I did not like the combination fried rice, it was supposed to be a 4 spice level but there was no spice and it tasted like white rice with crushed red pepper flakes and that was it. No flavor. The curry rice noodles was really good and was also a spice level of 4 and it was actually spicy (just a little though). There was plenty of veggies however there was maybe one or two pieces of chicken. If I came back I would order this again. The fried pork wontons tasted like tortillas and wasn't also very flavorful like the rice and the egg rolls were soft and mushy inside. The kiwi slushee was delicious though. I stopped here because i heard it was good. Clearly I was told this as a joke or by someone that has no clue. I had general tso chicken. I was asked how spicy i wanted it and being unfamiliar i said 2.5 out of 5 just to be safe... I thought I was eating something made for a nursing home it wad so devoid of any spice. Not sure what i would have been served if i had said 1. Now ignoring the lack of spice i would've given it more stars except they didn't even know how to prepare the dish. They served tough overcooked chunks of chicken breast. One, yes a single piece of broccoli, a huge mound of white rice and a fried egg dropped on top. Nowhere in the world would that pass for Tso chicken... worse yet it was almost completely tasteless. Don't go here, go to Panda Express... if they are closed go dig in the garbage behind Panda Express you would still find something better than the crap from this place. read more

Visited on: multiple dates from 2012 to present This place is okay. It's not terrible, but it's not extraordinary either. It's a good lunch spot because it's reasonably inexpensive and it's close to campus. Space is limited, though, and I always feel cramped and dirty every time I'm there. One distinctive thing about this place is that they cover their plates in aluminum foil, which is something to get used to. I have to admit that I used to like this place more before Boba Fusion Café came along and stole its thunder by offering better (i.e., more authentic and just plain tastier) Chinese food in a much nicer environment. Café 88 has a regular menu and daily (or weekly?) specials that are off the menu. The regular menu is, for the most part, Americanized. I've had the following: A4 - Fried Pork Wontons - bleh E2 - Fried Pork Chop - this was okay; it's a lot like Japanese katsu S2 - 3 Cup Chicken - okay S4 - Spicy Diced Chicken - okay R3 - Shrimp Stir-Fried Noodles (with Curry flavor) - fine R4 - Combo Stir-Fried Noodles (with Regular and Curry flavors) - the Regular was too sweet; the Curry is fine N1 - Curry Rice Noodle - not bad; this might be the best thing on the regular menu I've also had the Strawberry and Passion Fruit Slushies, and they're fine. The best part about Café 88 is that they have specials, which are much closer to authentic Chinese food. For the specials, I've had the following: - lu rou fan (braised pork over rice, a classic Taiwanese comfort food) - pretty good - hong shao ji chi (chicken wings with oyster sauce) - it was okay - suan miao la rou (cured pork belly with leeks, my favorite Hunan dish) - very good, but they barely ever make it and I don't think they've ever officially offered it; I think the one time I had it it was leftovers from a meal that the chefs cooked for themselves, and were nice enough to share with me - tomato beef over rice - not bad - ji rou plus pei gen plus dou gan plus bao xin cai - this was a hodgepodge of chicken and bean curd thrown together with some random cabbage-type vegetables; it was good Even though the specials are more authentic than the regular fare, they still don't quite make it all the way. For whatever odd reason, the cooks always insist on using broccoli for both regular items and specials. They also like to randomly throw in fried eggs and sweet sauces. I much prefer the food at Boba Fusion. Oh, and there's some kind of minimum total for using credit or debit cards. I think it might be $5 or $8. I recommend bringing cash. read more

Their meals aren't necessarily authentic Chinese, they were definitely fusion, but something about them spoke of authenticity. These fusion dishes are spectacularly unique and delicious. Cute little place in walking distance of OSU campus that serves really great Chinese/Taiwanese food! I recommend the Cafe 88 and 3 Cup chicken. I get their boba and it's consistently decent, and for their price I'm not complaining (it's less than three dollars, whereas places in OKC can get close to five dollars for their boba ). During peak hours it might be hard to find a place to sit since the place is so small and there aren't that many tables. There is a table outside though. read more

The big plus to this restaurant is its convenient location. It's very close to OSU campus so if I have an event going on and don't want to drive to a restaurant, I can just walk/bike here to get a great value meal. If I am one of the first to order a chicken fried rice entree, it costs only $7.38 after tax and comes ready to go in 5 minutes. Delicious, too! The bubble tea here is amazing as well. You get a wide variety of flavors you can get for your tea, and not only that you can have the option of mixing two flavors without extra charge. If you're not a big sweet person, ask the servers to reduce the sugar content. Basically, tell them what you like in your orders and they will do their best to accommodate to your needs. They can do the same with food as well, but I recommend not to get too picky especially if it's busy. Also, don't forget, you can do a bubble coffee instead of tea. I ask them to reduce the sugar and their coffee is AMAZING. Especially with the combination of white chocolate and caramel! This is a casual Chinese restaurant. If you're looking for a more authentic Chinese meal, I suggest selecting entrees that have the initials S15 and later. Their S6 mapo tofu is also pretty good! read more

Best fried rice in town, as it has a unique flavor to it that I can't get anywhere else. Service is always fast and the prices are great - order through their website for pick-up to get the best prices, as GrubHub prices are higher. Their packaging is also top notch - we ordered pepper steak and beef and broccoli and both were wrapped on the bottom half with aluminum foil, covering the lips of the lids.
