Lo Mein

We all know that customer service these days is abysmal in most places, but Golden Dragon evidently didn't get the memo. After a 9 hour drive, I had a special request and they bent over backward to accommodate me. Every staff member I interacted with was relaxed, polite, authentic. Ordered lo mein and it came with the right amount of a tasty sauce, fresh vegetables, piping hot. I'm traveling through from south Texas, but I will certainly come again if my travels bring me back. A can't miss experience!

I've been told this was one of the best Asian restaurants in Stillwater, if not the best. Stillwater is a southern/lower Midwestern College town, so the bar is not exactly high. I went in the summertime when flies were plentiful. My food came out hot, fastand what might expect from a more Americanized Asian restaurant. That being said, I expected a layered medley of flavors. I did not get that. I could also tell where they cut corners with certain ingredients. I think the average Oklahoma will like this restaurant, but I am always leery of Asian restaurants that don't have any Asian customers in them. However , Stillwater does not have a sizable Asian population, so they have to play to their American clientele. For what it is, I would say the food is pretty fair. The service was top-notch. It was nice and quiet in there. Good for a decent lunch, and definitely friendly for a big crowd.

I love the place and the service as well. For the food is delicious. I gonna come back for another foods.

The outside is deceiving but, I was pleasantly surprised when we walked into this place for dinner tonight. It reminds me of a nicer Wahaha (favorite Asian food in Edmond). The air is struggling so it was hot but a very clean and eye appealing atmosphere. The waitress we had was again perfectly attentive (I'm starting to remember what a great waiting staff looks like everywhere we go) and the good quality for the price I thought was very fair. Not cheap but not grossly expensive. My kids loved their meals and the scoop of ice cream at the end was icing on the cake (they had strawberry, vanilla or chocolate). I had the Panang curry and it was good but definitely not the best I've ever had. I would try another curry dish next time I come. My husband has beef and broccoli and the vegetables were cooked nicely. Overall good stop.

While in Stillwater for the 2023 Special Olympics, The Wife and I needed a chinese fix, and Golden Dragon Cafe popped up as being both highly rated and close to our hotel. We arrived around 6 and were promptly seated. Drink and app orders were taken and we were left to check out the offerings. There are a lot of seriously good looking items on the menu, but in the end, we played it a little safe and stayed with what we were familiar with, albeit at other locations, this being our first outing to the Golden Dragon. Egg rolls and egg drop soup me, and fried dumplings for The Wife, which were shared. The egg rolls were the disappointment of the evening. They weren't bad, they just had nothing going for them. The dumplings were fantastic, and the sorta hot sauce on the side the perfect accompaniment. The egg drop soup had a rich flavor and good body to it. Soup is something often overlooked in restaurants, and if you get a good one for an app, you can almost always be the cooks are attentive and care about what they're doing, which proved to be the case. The Basil Fried Rice was nothing short of phenomenal. As a fried rice snob, I exist in a vertiable wasteland of fried rice in the Tulsa area. How no one can seem to make such a simple dish worth eating escapes me completely. This stuff tho.... man, it was great. Well seasoned, the rice was textured perfectly and balanced with the right amount of additions. Had we not also ordered two other entrees to share, I would have cleaned house on it. The Beef Lo Mein was also well done. A little more saucy than I prefer, it was nonetheless a great offering. Noodles cooked properly, tender slices of beef and celery. I would have liked to see some onion, scallion and bean sprouts, but that's a personal preference, and in no way a criticism of the dish. The Chicken Chow Mein arrived late to the table, but when it got there it was well received. Tender pieces of dark meat chicken surrounded by properly sized bites of vegetables (lots of places seem to cut their veg too big) in a rich sauce. Nothing at all wrong with this one. Wait staff were on point, friendly and courteous. If I had one of these places close to home, I'd be a regular.

Ever since my son started at OSU four years ago, I've passed by this restaurant many times and…read morealways wondered what it was like. I finally tried it on this trip, and it was wonderful. Delicious! The food here isn't greasy at all. You can choose your preferred spice level when ordering, and the ingredients are fresh. The dishes are served on trays reminiscent of those used in traditional Chinese tea ceremonies. The side of rice is cooked on the firmer side, but once you mix it with the sauce, the texture becomes perfect. The prices are student‑friendly, and the portions are just right. I can't believe such a great restaurant is located right next to the OSU campus. It's been a week since I ate there, and I'm already itching to go back. I think the restaurant could be even nicer if the interior were updated with a slightly more modern touch.

I spent six years living in China, so I feel like I have at least a halfway decent sense of what…read moreChinese food should taste like. I know that Kung Pao Chicken is the go-to safe bet on the menu, kind of like the chef's choice of Chinese food. But man, this one just didn't land. I asked for a 4 out of 5 on spice, I wanted something with some heat, but not like a dare. What I got had all the firepower of a bell pepper. Maybe someone from rural Wisconsin might've found it adventurous, but for anyone who's had the real thing, this was at the same level of bbq sauce. One of the things I genuinely enjoy about going to Chinese restaurants is keeping up my Mandarin, having a quick chat with the staff, maybe hearing a few regional accents. No dice here. The guy up front was a white dude with no idea what zhōngguó cài even is, and the kitchen staff were speaking Spanish the whole time. Which, fine, but maybe don't brand yourself like you're bringing authentic Sichuan to town when the closest you get is a laminated picture of a dragon and some questionable chicken. Food was edible. Service was fine. Place was quiet. But the whole thing felt like the ghost of a Panda Express trying to pass as something more serious. I might give it one more shot in the future just to be fair, but for now, this was a miss.

This was our second visit to Nagoya restaurant. I wanted to try it again to give it a second chance…read moreas the first visit was so-so. The restaurant is ok. It's clean, and the lighting is ok as well. Nothing to call home about. Although the booths need some work. But they're not terrible. They have lanterns hung up around the restaurant ceiling. One thing that immediately stood out to us when we got there (this is a Japanese restaurant plus a hibachi or teppanyaki style restaurant as well) is that when we got sat on the restaurant side is the number of menus we got. I don't know if they didn't have enough or what the deal was but we were a party of 4, but only got 2 menus. So we had to share menus. The server came over pretty much right away to see what we'd like to drink and if we'd like to order any appetizers. We also ordered 1 order of tuna roll as an appetizer. As it's a bit expensive which is pretty on par when it comes to sushi. Especially in a landlocked area like OK. So that wasn't a big deal. My kids and husband said it was pretty good but the sushi looked a bit skinny in my opinion but they were ok with it. This visit I order pork katsu, my 2 kids ordered chicken katsu and my husband order the combo of tempura and teriyaki steak (steak was supposed to be cooked to medium rare, it was cooked to very welllll done!) also my husband asked for no teriyaki sauce as he said it was way too sweet and overwhelming when he ordered it the first time. The pork katsu was ok but a bit dry. All of the dishes came with the following: rice, miso soup, a side salad with a ginger dressing (which was strangely neon orange, and the "garnish" was a maraschino cherry(?)). Also you get a bowl of the katsu dipping sauce as well. The miso was good the salad but the salad dressing was super sweet (along with the oddly neon orange color) and had no ginger flavor. The chicken katsu was good as well. The kids said it was what it was. Again with a maraschino cherry as a garnish. Which again is odd. LOL but it's fine. Not the expected garnish for platters. Usually it's shredded cabbage. But hey if it works for them that's fine. My husband ordered the combination tempura and teriyaki steak with no teriyaki sauce. (My husband said that the last time the sauce was way too overwhelming and sweet). The server asked how he wanted the steak to be cooked, which was medium rare. The steak wasn't medium rare, it was actually very well done. It wasn't seared from what I could see, it looked almost like it was steamed. And the tempura was 2 pieces of shrimp, sweet potato, onion, you also get 2 pieces of shumai or shrimp dumplings and 4 pieces of California roll sushi. My husband said there was a bit too much mayo. He said also the meal was ok. Nothing to call home about. We got our food pretty quick. Which was great. Unfortunately when the food was delivered to us there was a fork stabbed into each and every bowl of rice! In my culture that's bad luck. It was quite shocking to see but I know that's not something that the restaurant would know per se. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive. But I guess per the server the owners are Chinese. I don't know if the Chinese culture has the same thing but as a Japanese American I was always taught don't stick a fork, knife or even chopsticks into a bowl of rice upright. That is bad luck. So it really bugged me. LOL The biggest thing that I had an issue with was when we left was when we left. We asked for the check which we got pretty quickly. And we gave the server the our card, he scanned it and brought it back for signing. He then came back and said uh actually I gave you the wrong ticket. So this is the right one and I'm going to have to charge you the difference. So he gave us the wrong one? Then we paid for someone else's tab and then in order to fix it - he had to go to his manager to fix it by charging us the difference. It wasn't a huge difference. But still one would think that he would be organized enough to pay attention to ensure that the correct tickets are going to the right tables. SMH FYI I definitely knew the place was run by Chinese ppl because at the counter in the front had fortune cookies. Yeah not Japanese LOL So overall not sure if we will go back after that experience. Especially after the ticket mix up. SMH And no apology.
