    Chicken Katsu

When a new restaurant opens in your area, you want to support small businesses. It's important that the community has a variety of places for people to go out and enjoy food. With Miso and Devoted in the area, Akeno has tough competition. Unfortunately, they are not able to compete. I ordered the chicken katsu for an appetizer and was met with (most likely previously frozen) overcooked chicken with a thick breading. Dry and without any flavor at all besides an odd onion taste similar to onion powder being directly shaken onto the breading right after frying. The chicken teppenyaki yakisoba left much to be desired. The soba noodles were overcooked to mushy and then drowned in their sauce. They were more akin to spaghetti than real yakisoba. The chicken was also very overcooked and dry. What a shame. And definitely not worth the exaggerated prices for Stillwater, Oklahoma compared to the other Asian places in town.

Tempura was light and crispy. Caterpillar roll and spicey lady roll really good. Service is excellent

the food was delicious, honestly my favorite sushi in town now, the service was great, and the ambiance was top tier. our appetizer, the fried calamari, was a good ratio of squid to batter and perfectly fried we also shared the Tom Yum + Shrimp hotpot, Shaggy Dog roll, Sumo roll, and Combo B (which had 7 different kinds of sushi) our total was about 95 before tip, but to be fair we did have 4 plates + extras overall, great sushi spot! hot pot was good, and the setting is great for a date night definitely recommend you give it a try

    Cypress Roll yummy!

10/10. Fresh Wild Caught sushi. Great shabu, I just all the meat raw though because everything here is such high quality.

I enjoyed that the appetizers were very different and unique and things I never had before. The chips with the two dips were super yummy and very different in flavor Profile. Then the loaded fries with miso were amazing and an outstanding option. We also enjoyed edamame for a starter. Then we each ordered entrées, one person ordered sushi and the presentation alone just blew us away. The boat of sushi came out with dry ice and it was so cool. And then my meal as well as the other person's meal were crazy, large portions and just really good quality food. I will say my chicken Katsu had a little too much sauce and it was not the traditional sauce sauce, but still really good. The staff were also super friendly and when they heard it was our first time and were so helpful in suggesting different things and checking on us even the hostess wanted to know how experience was. It was decorated in a different and fun way. I can see why it's so highly recommended.

This was our second visit to Nagoya restaurant. I wanted to try it again to give it a second chance…read moreas the first visit was so-so. The restaurant is ok. It's clean, and the lighting is ok as well. Nothing to call home about. Although the booths need some work. But they're not terrible. They have lanterns hung up around the restaurant ceiling. One thing that immediately stood out to us when we got there (this is a Japanese restaurant plus a hibachi or teppanyaki style restaurant as well) is that when we got sat on the restaurant side is the number of menus we got. I don't know if they didn't have enough or what the deal was but we were a party of 4, but only got 2 menus. So we had to share menus. The server came over pretty much right away to see what we'd like to drink and if we'd like to order any appetizers. We also ordered 1 order of tuna roll as an appetizer. As it's a bit expensive which is pretty on par when it comes to sushi. Especially in a landlocked area like OK. So that wasn't a big deal. My kids and husband said it was pretty good but the sushi looked a bit skinny in my opinion but they were ok with it. This visit I order pork katsu, my 2 kids ordered chicken katsu and my husband order the combo of tempura and teriyaki steak (steak was supposed to be cooked to medium rare, it was cooked to very welllll done!) also my husband asked for no teriyaki sauce as he said it was way too sweet and overwhelming when he ordered it the first time. The pork katsu was ok but a bit dry. All of the dishes came with the following: rice, miso soup, a side salad with a ginger dressing (which was strangely neon orange, and the "garnish" was a maraschino cherry(?)). Also you get a bowl of the katsu dipping sauce as well. The miso was good the salad but the salad dressing was super sweet (along with the oddly neon orange color) and had no ginger flavor. The chicken katsu was good as well. The kids said it was what it was. Again with a maraschino cherry as a garnish. Which again is odd. LOL but it's fine. Not the expected garnish for platters. Usually it's shredded cabbage. But hey if it works for them that's fine. My husband ordered the combination tempura and teriyaki steak with no teriyaki sauce. (My husband said that the last time the sauce was way too overwhelming and sweet). The server asked how he wanted the steak to be cooked, which was medium rare. The steak wasn't medium rare, it was actually very well done. It wasn't seared from what I could see, it looked almost like it was steamed. And the tempura was 2 pieces of shrimp, sweet potato, onion, you also get 2 pieces of shumai or shrimp dumplings and 4 pieces of California roll sushi. My husband said there was a bit too much mayo. He said also the meal was ok. Nothing to call home about. We got our food pretty quick. Which was great. Unfortunately when the food was delivered to us there was a fork stabbed into each and every bowl of rice! In my culture that's bad luck. It was quite shocking to see but I know that's not something that the restaurant would know per se. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive. But I guess per the server the owners are Chinese. I don't know if the Chinese culture has the same thing but as a Japanese American I was always taught don't stick a fork, knife or even chopsticks into a bowl of rice upright. That is bad luck. So it really bugged me. LOL The biggest thing that I had an issue with was when we left was when we left. We asked for the check which we got pretty quickly. And we gave the server the our card, he scanned it and brought it back for signing. He then came back and said uh actually I gave you the wrong ticket. So this is the right one and I'm going to have to charge you the difference. So he gave us the wrong one? Then we paid for someone else's tab and then in order to fix it - he had to go to his manager to fix it by charging us the difference. It wasn't a huge difference. But still one would think that he would be organized enough to pay attention to ensure that the correct tickets are going to the right tables. SMH FYI I definitely knew the place was run by Chinese ppl because at the counter in the front had fortune cookies. Yeah not Japanese LOL So overall not sure if we will go back after that experience. Especially after the ticket mix up. SMH And no apology.

They had a sign up welcoming customers to their soft opening and asking for constructive criticism. The biggest disappointment was the calamari. It tasted like frozen onion rings. The thick batter was identical to the batter of frozen onion rings. When I bit into the first one, the calamari came out, revealing what a tiny sliver of calamari was inside the thick breading. I would definitely recommend choosing a different appetizer. I like that they have lunch specials which include eggroll, choice of rice, and choice of soup. Dan and I both got Pad Thai with shrimp, egg drop soup, and fried rice. Our grandson got lo Mein with beef, won ton soup, and fried rice. He liked his soup and entree. The egg rolls were a little greasy and we didn't get a sauce for them. We did not like the fried rice. It was dry and had an unpleasant flavor. I couldn't tell what spice I was tasting, but it seemed to belong in an Indian restaurant instead of an Asian restaurant. The dry and underdone texture added to the unpleasantness. Dan and I both love Pad Thai, but we didn't enjoy this. We ordered it around 2:00. It might have been fresher earlier. The sauce seemed too thick and a little sweet. As the sign said, this was a soft opening. I will try them again after they've been open awhile.

My friends ordered a few drinks, and we started with the edamame, chicken karaage, and miso soup. The appetizers were decent, but nothing particularly memorable, and all of our miso soups came out slightly cold. Our server was friendly, but because the restaurant was so busy, service overall was pretty slow. We also had to wait quite a while just to get wasabi for our sushi. I ordered the sashimi dinner, which was good, but again, nothing spectacular. My husband ordered several pieces of nigiri and thought it tasted good, but not the freshest sushi he's had. Our friends felt similarly about their meals. I don't really have much negative to say aside from the slower service and the miso soup bowls not being the best design-wise since one of the helpers accidentally spilled mine onto the table, and they also seem to let the soup cool down quickly. The sushi was fairly fresh, just not the best I've had in the metro. Overall, I'd say this place is okay, but not quite what all the hype made it out to be.
