The Mermaid & Ube Milk TEA
    Lucy L.

Came here for dessert last night and it was delicious. I came here once before for a Yelp event so I knew it was worth coming. I got the Mermaid Milk Tea (jasmine milk tea with a dash of matcha and sea salt) and my husband got the ube milk tea. Both were delicious and not too sweet. For dessert, we got the ube bar and the ube leche cupcake. They were both delicious! Service was really friendly when we had questions about the menu and they were patient with our wild monkeys running around the area. There's a couch and several tables to sit and enjoy your drinks and treats.

I was told that this business was Filipino inspired. By that, I mean that they make their version of filipino/asian drinks/dessert a bit different. We tried their regular halo halo and the upside down halo halo. Both were great! They used frosted flakes instead of the toasted rice and it was the perfect replacement IMO. It did just the trick that I'm craving one as I'm writing this review.

This is a nice, clean spot with warm and friendly staff. We're big fans of halo-halo and I have been wanting to try Cafe 86 for a while so we were happy we finally got the chance when we visited Chandler AZ. We decided to try their upside-down version and it did not disappoint! I loved how the frosted cornflakes added a perfect crunch that really complemented the overall taste of the ube halo-halo. It wasn't too sweet. I also appreciate that they honor military members with a discount. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend giving it a try!

This cafe as a find through a yelp even that my brother brought me over to try. The must try is the halo halo. To change it up from the prior experience, we tried the upside down halo halo. The halo halo is made up of coconut jellies, jack fruit, boba, frosted flakes, vanilla ice cream and flan on a ube base. Real jack fruit people!! Cute place to come hang out and try some desserts.

If you love Ube desserts and coffee this is the place!! So many yummy pastries I wanted to try them all. The ube brownie was so yummy and the coffee is great. The shop was decked out in Star Wars stuff which was a pleasant surprise! They had good music playing, and overall very chill. The woman who helped me at the counter was so friendly!! Definitely recommend this place!!

I first discovered this place after attending during Yelp Elite week. It was so good, I had to come back for more just a few days later. After a long day of work, I had a sweet tooth craving, and knew exactly what I wanted. Cafe 86 is a fun and vibrant place that specializes in all things Ube. From drinks to baked goods, you'll be sure to find your Ube favorite here. I ordered the Ube Flan Leche Cupcake, which was exactly what I came for. A perfectly moist Ube flavored cupcake (minus the frosting) topped with a delicious piece of flan. Never would I have thought that this would be such an excellent combination. The cake portion is delicious and moist just like a cake should be. The flan is also delicious.. and flan is not an easy thing to make. This dessert really hit the spot and I could eat more & more but the hips don't lie! Service was wonderful just like time before. A really great spot to stop in for a quick treat & also for work or study.

I love ube and so I was recommended by a friend to visit Cafe 86. Right as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. There are so many ube options to choose from so we will be back to try out their other ube options. The vibe is very relaxing and cool. You'll see Star Wars figures and art work on the walls. My husband ordered their ube latte with a shot of espresso. Typically this is caffeine free. It was very creamy and not overly sweetened. I ordered their green rose milk tea and although this was on the sweeter side it was still very good, floral, and creamy. For food, my husband and I had their pastrami sandwich along with their ube crinkle cookie. Both the cookie and sandwich were delicious. The cookie in particular was sweet and so soft. I have no complaints. I highly recommend checking this place if you're in the area. Plus they also have car meet nights/promos listed on their chalk board.

Drink - I tried the Cali-Mango Slush, which IS a 24oz Blended Mango Puree with Calmansi. Calamansi is a hybrid between kumquat and mandarin orange. It is a citrus hybrid, called a Philippine lime or lemon. The drink tasted like pineapple to me at first. I couldn't taste the mango as much as the citrus flavor. I could taste a hint of mango. Refreshing on a hot day. I didn't get any of their other drinks or desserts today. Atmosphere - Interesting decorations. I did not visit the restroom. Not hot or cold inside. I have been to some places where it's been hot. Not very busy. A small cute cafe. Service - Quick and attentive. Parking - Surface parking lot. No parking meter or parking structures.

Little did I know Cafe 86 was a chain that existed outside of California. I was in town visiting family and was craving for a boba drink. I leveraged good ole trusty Yelp for recommendations and of course, I came across this sweet gem in Arizona of all places. I've tried Cafe 86 before in California so I knew that if I came here, I would definitely get their Upside Down Halo Halo. It's more of a dessert since it has layers of sweetness such as: Their signature ube base halo halo, coconut jellies, jackfruit, boba, Frosted Flakes, one scoop of vanilla ice cream, and flan. The mini size was already more than enough for me so I opted for that size instead of their regular. And, you bet that I inhaled that in the same day with zero remorse. My order was made rather quickly and while I was waiting, I got to see the eclectic wall art and decor throughout (including a Darth Vader painting). This is a place you don't want to sleep on especially if you're a Halo Halo fanatic and a dessert lover to boot!

I love Filipino desserts, especially Halo-Halo, so when I saw that there is a place in Arizona that specializes in Filipino desserts, I was stoked! My mom and I decided to make the trip to Chandler to get our Halo-Halo fix since she was craving it too. When we arrived, the atmosphere was inviting and cozy, which immediately made us feel at home. We both opted for the Upside Down Halo-Halo, which was an exciting twist on the traditional dessert. The presentation was beautiful, and each bite was a delightful mix of flavors and textures. To top it off, we couldn't resist getting a box of Ube Cheesecake and Ube Flan, which were both absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding; the staff was friendly. Definitely a great to have a place that brings a taste of the Philippines to Arizona!

Went when they opened and they were stocked with all the delicious baked goods! Finally got to try the Ube cookie! (Ube crinkle) It was so good!! Thanks for such sweet and kind hospitality to me and my shiba, Ava! Met a friend here for some snacks and refreshments and today is their 1 year anniversary! The last time I was here must've been when they first just opened. Happy anniversary cafe 86!! The openess and natural lighting from outside makes this place so welcoming and bright.

The cashier is always so kind regardless of how many sweets I consume while I sit and study Their Ube cheesecake is by far my favorite as it always hits with the same amazing mouth watering taste. Typically I get all Ube items there however I tried the Thai tea monster this time just to spice up my routine and this did not disappoint. I love this place because it's so nice to sit and just talk to friends or study. The music is nice and a vibe. If you ask me (as a college student with a crazy sweet tooth) you should come here ESPECIALLY if you live for Ube. I'm talking about the REAL Ube not the jack in the box version like the actual amazing authentic top tier version. For sure will always come back.

I was super stoked to check a place with "retro" in the name out, and I gotta be honest here, I left with pretty mixed emotions about a lot of things. The restaurant itself is pretty boring inside, mostly just being black with a few small pictures hanging up. I was kind of expecting big retro movie posters or something hanging around, but I definitely didn't get much of a retro vibe from this place minus a small neon "bar" sign and a claw machine in the corner. The menus were very cool, right by the front door its a record shelf and the records were the menus, so thumbs up for that idea. I thought i was mistaken, but I don't remember seeing sandwich prices on the actual menu, but as I look at other photos on yelp it does appear that the sandwiches don't have prices attached to them, which explains why I was thrown off by the end price. I settled on ordering the "take on me" which was black forest ham, roasted turkey, hickory smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and mayo on a Hawaiian style roll. I also ordered a sprite and a chocolate chip cookie as a side. The chocolate chip cookie was okay, pretty standard cookie though definitely not worth $3.75. The sprite was $2.99, and the sandwich came to $15.58. I was also charged $0.96 for something called the advantage program which I have no idea what that is. I gotta say, spending over $25 on a sandwich, a small cookie, and a drink is not something I would care to do at a place like this. The sandwich itself was very good, I won't deny that. The meat tasted fresh, and when it was all together it was definitely a good sandwich, but when there's not combo option and a basic sandwich, cookie, and drink ends up being $25 it's gonna be a no from me on returning in the future. Overall, I really wanted to love this place for the name, but the lack of much decorations and prices left something to be desired. The food itself was good, but not worth what was spent.

I love that they change their menu daily, it's handwritten and the details are posted on their Instagram page if you want to take a look before you arrive. Everything is made fresh to order! The day we had gone in, they had a few sandwich and pasta options available to choose from. My husband got the spicy Italian sausage ziti pasta dish and I ordered the chicken parm sandwich. The sandwich came out first; I really liked the marinara sauce on it. It was a bit difficult to eat but exactly what I was expecting and wanting. The pasta took some time to come out, but that was fine. The sauce was like a pesto vodka sauce, very rich & filling, and also tasty. We were both only able to eat half of each dish since they were both large dishes. I believe they only serve pasta dishes on certain days, so if they have them on the menu, definitely consider ordering one of those. They seem to have sandwiches everyday. It's a pretty small place with a few tables & some bar type seating. It gets pretty busy around lunch time, so plan accordingly. We'll be back again to try other items!

Before even stepping into the building, I was excited because the outside looked like something from a Western movie. There was plenty of parking, and from the parking lot being majority-filled, I knew this would be a good stop. You can also see the outdoor seating from the parking lot, and it was filled with a couple families. The walk in directs you straight to the smokehouse/restaurant. You order at the counter, and then you either get a seat number and choose a seat or wait at the counter for pick up. There was a decent sized menu of bbq options, sides and drinks. The dessert display was filled with what looked to be DELECTABLE goodies! :) (this is what I'd try when I come back, FOR SURE!). I ordered the double meat platter with a half rack of ribs and brisket. The sides were chose were baked beans and Mac and cheese. The platter came with the two rolls, as well. This was to share with one other person. I'd say the ribs were okay, not my favorite! The brisket, on the other hand, had a PERFECT Smokey taste. The Mac and cheese was okay and so were the baked beans (they were super sweet, if that's what you're going for!). Add the regular bbq sauce on the side for dipping and you've got a tasty meal! After dining, we were able to go around the antique shop in the back. It was HUGE! And it kept GOING AND GOING! There here vendors of all sorts from furniture to home goods to jewelry to clothes/shoes. There's a little something for everyone here! There was even a hidden (I guess not hidden if you know about it), second hand, vintage clothing store in the very back. I didn't walk out with anything, but it was as worth the window shopping! The exit was through the antique shop near the cash wrap. Overall, the experience was lovely. The food was in the mid range for me, but I'd come back for dessert and the shopping.
