Cafe 8 is definitely a cool vibe, your experience here is what you make it. Seriously. Bring your crew. They don't have a bunch of crazy rules like other DC spots. Good drinks, I love their lemon drops, if you aren't a vodka fan get a tequila lemon drop. The hookah is always on point. The service is usually decent, nothing special. All male staff, so there will be no fluff here lol. Stop through for a quick bite and drinks. The wings are good too. This is usually our starting spot or our ending spot. Never our only stop. Parking around this are can be a major headache so car pool if you can or you will have to walk a few blocks. Be sure to read all signs before parking. Beware of the scooter drivers they will hit and run. 8th street can be a whole experience in its self so I highly suggest making this a group outing location. Bar/restaurant hop.

The rudest security guard I've come across had a birthday party of 15 trying to come in and spend money he completely disrespected us ! We were trying to experience to rent it out for my upcoming graduation this month. he turned us off he let many people in for free he tried to make us pay 10 girls 5 guys. I don't like people who try and take advantage and pick and choose so disrespectful and unprofessional I won't recommend this spot to anyone. I liked it the first time I came and that's why I brought my friends here but if this was my first impression It's not worth it I've worked at clubs restaurants etc and know how it should go. Certain the owners don't know he is trying to make people Zelle and cash app him privately at the door .

This is my neighborhood hookah spot. The drinks and hookah are cheap but strong. They play a mix of go-go, hip hop and Afrobeats. It's very casual and they open up the windows when it's nice out. It can get a little hood and very packed on the weekends. It's fun - no posturing, just people smoking, drinking, dancing and having a good time. The service is solid - there are usually 4-6 guys working and taking orders as a team. Food - I've only had their chicken wings and fries - they were both decent.

Pizza is great! I ordered the Bianca! Service is fast and music is amazing. Hookah was great because I insisted that they cleaned it. It was way better that the hookah I experienced there in the past. PS.. the bathrooms need an upgrade. But still go!

Bruhhhh when I need my hookah fix this is the spottttt! Also the drinks are really strong and straight to the point. The lights in here are pretty cool at night! The staff don't waste anytime when it comes to serving you and making sure your needs are met. I also love the music here.. it's varies from hip hop to reggae and some Afro beats. Overall a chill spot.. got some ratchet people passing thru but all is well when ya got that hookah in ya system.

We came here for a nightcap. We ordered Margaritas, Pepperoni Pizza, BMW hookah, and shots. The service was amazing! O, always takes care of us when we come and we feel like family each time we enjoy their space. I love coming here to just relax after a long day. The food isn't expensive and it is very good for what you're paying. I love the vibe there, the music is always on point and the service is phenomenal. They check in often to make sure we don't need anything and I love that. 10/10 would certainly recommend. I will forever come back here.

Definitely more hookah bar than restaurant. Staff wasn't friendly nor too welcoming, but more straight forward and unapologetic type of approach, if you're fine with that. Food was good, not great. Just very simple, yet satisfying served on paper plates with bottled water, the small pint size. But for what it isn't (high quality food and service), it kinda works. If it's expecting fancy-shmancy, this definitely isn't the place for you, but if just want a simple, fulfilling yet no frills meal (and don't mind and/or interested in hookah), it's a solid choice.

Came here randomly on a rainy Saturday night for drinks. Sat on the bar side, as this place seems to be split. One side for the bar and hookahs, other for dining. I got 2 martinis that were very strong. Waitress and bartendar were super nice and friendly. Street parking

    - it's just a vibe in Here and the weekends is the place to be. They have great drinks and the music is hiphop and whatever you want to here to be honest. The lamb chops are good man. I don't eat everybody lamb chops, the bombom sauce is good with the fries that I ordered. I did put the bombom sauce on my rice n lamb chops. The lamb chops were tender and seasoned. The vegetables were decent, they may just be frozen. But honestly no complaints. The dishes are good. The hookah is good as well if that's your vibe. Other reviews complained about parking and Covid and etc. Wear your mask and stay safe period. Overall, I'll be back for sure! The drinks will get you to where you need to be lol hopefully you not calling no exes LOL. Check out the vibe yourself.

This was easily one of the most entertaining brunches I've experienced in the DMV, while still maintaining an upscale vibe. From the singer taking special requests during brunch to the live entertainment afterward, drummers, dancers, and a saxophonist turning things into a full brunch party...we were thoroughly entertained from start to finish. What really stood out, though, was that the food matched the energy. At some places, you get great entertainment but mediocre food - not here. Everything was beautifully presented, served at the perfect temperature, and genuinely delicious. My friend was so impressed with her birthday celebration that she thanked me for days afterward. The service was impeccable, the space is stunning with plenty of Instagram-worthy moments, and despite how busy it was, it somehow still felt warm and welcoming. If you're in the mood to get dressed up, enjoy an upscale brunch, celebrate a special occasion, or impress someone on a date, this is definitely the place. I'm already looking forward to my next brunch party here!

Pita: Pure wheat flavor, substantial texture, and even more moist and soft than ilili. It didn't dry out even without a cloth covering it. More suited to Chinese tastes. The accompanying simple vinaigrette was complemented by a particularly fragrant olive oil. Hommus: The hummus was smooth and creamy, with a perfect balance of acidity and a hint of garlic. A splash of chili oil added aroma and richness while preventing it from drying out; the vegetables were fresh and crisp, perfect for dipping. These two combinations were new to me, showing attention to detail compared to the usual simple dish of hommus. Shish Taouk: Tender chicken, with sumac giving it a distinct smoky flavor, and a refreshing, slightly acidic garlic sauce. The combination was both fragrant and light, truly deserving of its signature dish. Unfortunately, the onion salad was mildly sweet, offering limited relief from the richness; the roasted tomatoes, coated in spices, had their sweet and sour flavors overshadowed, resulting in a slightly weird taste. Lamb Baharat: The lamb leg was a bit dry and tough, and the tahini sauce and hommus were somewhat repetitive, but the Tabbouleh salad won me over from the first bite! The fresh aromas of parsley, mint leaves, and onions, the bright sweet and sour notes of tomatoes, and the wheat crumbs reminiscent of couscous and quinoa, with their hearty wheat flavor balancing the raw taste. Overall, it was restrained, light, and comforting. Crispy Brussels Afelia: The barberries, and garlic yogurt were all sour, making the overall dish too acidic and monotonous. It wasn't as good as ilili's system, built with grapes, walnuts, and mint yogurt, which achieved a balanced sweet and sour flavor, layered texture, and a smooth mouthfeel. Greek Yogurt and Apricots: What a beautiful dessert! The top layer was the rich, sweet aroma of apricot sorbet, with sprinkles of pistachios that enriched the taste; the middle layer was the tartness of apricot pectin and the fermented tang of yogurt; just when starting to feel a little disappointed by the monotony of the bottom, I discovered sweet, slightly crunchy diced muscat-soaked apricots at the very bottom. Its elegance, refinement, and meticulousness left me only with awe and admiration, and a sense of blissful ecstasy. The restaurant's decor features classic Greek blue and white tones, with natural light creating a clean and comfortable atmosphere; the tableware was decorated with traditional Greek patterns, making it both distinctive and exquisite.

Though we typically look askance upon restaurants serving multiple ethnic cuisines, we nonetheless decided to try Zaytinya for dinner on the strength of friends' recommendations and when in need of a relatively last minute dinner reservation. The lively space is large and boasts bright white and marine blue accents characteristic of the Greek islands. While fancy enough for a date night, the place can get loud, so intimate evenings may be best had elsewhere. Zaytinya's large menu offers bites from Greece, Turkey, and the Levant. The meal begins with complimentary pita bread served with olive oil and pomegranate molasses. When fresh, the bread is soft and makes for pleasant munching. When it cools down a little it becomes a little hard and leathery, so be sure to eat it expediently. We started off with two Greek-inspired dips: the taramosalata and the tyrokafteri. Both tasted akin to what we have received at actual Greek restaurants, and subsequently hit the mark. Our zaatar pide arrived shortly thereafter. The dough on the flatbread was soft and we enjoyed the bites with egg and cheese. The zaatar itself ran more bitter rather than zesty, so while overall a decent bite I would skip it next time in favor of a different pide. Our imam biyaldi brought meltingly tender eggplant seasoned with warm spices, olive oil, and pine nuts. The dish tasted comforting and rustic. Our protein mezzes comprised the octopus Santorini, lamb kleftiko, and adana kebab. The octopus offered a generous portion of tender tentacles upon a schmear of creamy Greek style fava puree. The flavors and cook on the dish were good, though I could've used an acidic or herby element to bring a little brightness. The lamb kleftiko was the evening's uncontested favorite. Rather than the traditional parchment cooked preparation, the meat here is encased in homemade phyllo pastry and is set atop a rich tzatziki sauce. This made for a really delicious bite marrying juicy, tender lamb, crisp pastry, and cooling yogurt. Skip the adana kebab. The spicing on the skewer was adequate, but the somewhat bouncy texture of the meat and skimpy portion size made it a dud. Service ran smoothly but perfunctorily. We noted we were celebrating an anniversary on our reservation, but no mention was made. Our waiter didn't really explain the menu or offer suggestions for dishes. He did course the meal at a comfortable pace and the staff made sure we had plenty of fresh bread, and no errors were made. Our bill totaled $150 pre tip for six mezze and two drinks, which we found very fair for the quantity and quality of food. Overall, I can see why this restaurant has stood the test of time. While initially skeptical, we found most of the small plates here of a decent quality and taste and the menu appealing enough to return. Zaytinya thus gets four stars for solid Eastern Mediterranean fare at reasonable prices in lively surrounds.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.
