Hookah
Beza G.

As an Ethiopian, I'm typically impervious to poor customer service, but this place hit my ceiling of tolerability! The fiasco: they wrongly charged us and showed utter contempt during the refund process--took their sweet ass time, missed our Uber. Still I'll give a full review because I'm a decent human being. Atmosphere: lively street. Came in on a Thursday night- upstairs was dead. Has the typical hooka lounge booths and spacious bar seating. They had multiple screens, showed some hip hop and heavy Caribbean music videos. Food/hooka: I ordered a peach hooka ($20) and shrimp quesadilla ($12). Hooka was basic, I was disappointed to see they use the CHEAP and health hazardous instant charcoals. I liked the quesadilla! Ample shrimp. BAD SERVICE: Everything got derailed when we saw our cards were charged improperly. Friend and I went kindly brought it to their attention. You'd think we'd asked them to cut us a fucking flight to Rome. First, we had to explain the discrepancy with kid gloves- though the receipt was self explanatory! It took 20 minutes of us standing as they grumbled and asked the ppl around for loose cash so we can be reimbursed. There was no apology- just looks of contempt. I was so shocked that I asked for my TIP and they refused!! After that shitty treatment I couldn't get reimbursed. So disrespectful.

Absolutely love this restaurant! Noticed this gem randomly while running errands and met the owners who are super sweet. I am a big fan of Ethiopian food but decided to stick to fries and a sandwich. Had one of the most pleasant conversations ever with the staff and was told to come back on the weekend to go to the club upstairs lol

Cajun Chicken Pasta

I met a friend here for drinks & he convinced me to try the food. I was skeptical because I thought it was another hookah bar on 9th street but I was pleasantly surprised! I had the Cajun chicken pasta & it was delicious! I should've done a before & after of my plate because I definitely finished it. Ambiance - the upstairs is a sports lounge with lots of big screen TVs & sofas. It's pretty spacious & downstairs is more for sit down dinner. It's funny to complain about the smoke at a hookah place but it's there lol It's a good spot for groups.

What a special place in Washington, DC we have here…read more It is said a lot of members of congress dine here and I can understand why. Everything is delicious here!!! I started here for my birthday with some escargots, fantastic. Pro-Tip: Don't forget you can dip that terrific breadbasket they give you with some of the leftover garlic sauce from your escargots. We both decided to split the Beef Bourguignon. The most tender beef you can imagine, you do not need a knife to eat, and it was accompanied with buttery goodness in the creamy potatoes and some carrots for good measure. For dessert we ordered the vanilla bean crème brûlée. French dessert at a French restaurant was a no brainer. The top of the dessert packed a crispy, sugary, slightly burnt tasting palate cleanser that definitely will keep you a pick me up, who needs an ECT shock to get the heart going when you can take a scoop of pure sugary bliss! This is a must go to if you are in the DC area, but be sure to make reservations it fills up quickly. As always people SYOY!!!

The cocktails were spot on, especially the Fro-sze! We had a good selection of small plates and absolutely devoured the bread basket! Everything was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I tried the Beef Tartare ($19) which came with a quail egg and sunchoke chips on top, a small side salad, and a large bread basket. The tartare was good and the bread was great. For an entree, the Trout à la Grenobloise ($33) was great. It came with mashed potatoes, green beans, almonds, and caper-lemon-brown butter sauce. It was a really nicely cooked piece of fish. The restaurant was larger and the decor more modern than I expected. I also didn't realize it was part of a small chain, with locations in NYC and SF. Service was a little slow at first, but then fine. Overall, a nice, classic French meal.

Expansive wine selection--we went with the chilled Gamay and loved it. One of our party got an Alsatian beer which he enjoyed. The escargot with their puff-pastry hats were good but not astoundingly so. The French onion soup was very good with a generous cheese topping but slightly under flavored. Mushroom soup was yummy although bland to look at. Steak frites and roasted chicken were nice but the ravioles left me wanting something more. Would go back and have drinks, apps, and deserts but maybe skip the entrees!

We ordered a huge spread including the escargot, mussels, mushrooms, salmon, ravioli, roast chicken, and rib eye. Every single dish was fantastic, but the escargot and mussels were particular standouts. Everything tasted fresh, beautifully prepared, and packed with lovely French flavors. We paired the meal with Chimay beer and red wine, both of which worked beautifully with the dishes. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient, with everything arriving fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere is what you'd hope for from a traditional French bistro--cozy, lively, and authentic. After trying several French restaurants in DC, this one stood out for me. Highly recommend if you're craving a proper French bistro experience!

Tried to do the right thing and call but the yelp app phone number link didn't work and took me to another page in the website. Finally I manually dialed the phone said "enter the number for the party you want to reach". This also happened when I called to make the reservation. Then I called back and it went to a hostess. Basically their hold reservation and phone system and website via yelp don't work. I'm only posting this because I tried to explain this to the person I spoke with to make the reservation but she seemed disinterested.

While the dinner crowd was large, the service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Steak Frites, which was cooked to perfection and tasty. The cheese puffs and artichokes were mediocre, and the macarons were fine but nothing memorable. The tarte flambée was slightly below average. It tasted mostly like cheese and fat, with none of the depth or balance I expected. The biggest disappointment was the steak au poivre. We ordered it medium rare, which our server specifically said was also the chef's recommendation, but it arrived somewhere between medium and medium well. More surprisingly, it was one of the toughest steaks I have ever eaten. At $49, that is unacceptable. The mashed potatoes were equally disappointing: bland, not buttery, and nothing like the rich French pommes purée I expected. We also ordered the carrots, but they never arrived. At least we were not charged for them. The crème brûlée was good, but a good crème brûlée could not redeem the meal. The service was attentive and polished. The restaurant was also nearly empty at 5 p.m. on a Friday, with only one other table occupied inside and a few people outside, which in hindsight may have been a warning sign. Beautiful room, decent service, deeply disappointing food. I would not return.

We had a wonderful experience here. I would say the food, while having French accents, reminded me of the most creative California cuisine, and I adored it. The dishes were unique, beautiful, and most importantly, delicious. Andy, our server took good care of us and imbued us with the passion that he has for the restaurant. One thing that is very Parisian about the place, the extremely tight spaces between the tables. It's a little dicey getting in and out but really it it makes you feel like you are in Paris so I'll take it as part of the charm. You will enjoy!

The problem with Lutèce is that they don't give a single crap about their customer's experience. We booked a 6 PM table. My friend and I arrived at 5:55, and were seated by 6. The waiter IMMEDIATELY told us we had the table for 2 hours and then had to leave. He then got us water and eventually (10 min in) took our drink orders. He then told us again that we had the table for only 2 hours. Our other friend was 15 minutes late. She arrived, and we looked at the menus. One was the regular menu, and one was a five course tasting. We discussed for ~5 minutes, and then told the waiter we all wanted the tasting menu. His response: "Sorry, it's too late for that now. The kitchen can't do it in the amount of time you have remaining." This for a $125 menu with an $80 wine pairing. We ended up ordering far less food, which was unceremoniously dumped on our table with no regard for coursing in an obvious attempt to hurry us along, and several times wait staff attempted to pick up plates that were clearly still full of food while we were clearly still eating. By the time we received the dessert menu we felt scared to order it, and completely unwelcome. And of course, you guessed it: they automatically add a 20 percent service charge so there's no market correction to their piss-poor service. The attitude at this restaurant is everything wrong with fine dining in general in this day and age, and in DC in particular: You should be so lucky to dine here, you lickspittles. Eat up and get out. Thanks, but no. Never again. You'll find me at the bar at Chloe where they take the time to know your name and never make you feel unwelcome.
